"You do know me best, Kaia. Yeah, I'll admit it. I'm selfish when it comes to you. I can't control myself. Every time you're near, I never want to let go, not even for a second. Every word you say, every little thing you do, it's all etched in my mind. I've counted your eyelashes, felt your breath close, and I've lost track of how many times I've dreamed of making you mine, never letting you go.
"Kaia, you have no idea how much I've held myself back. I'm scared of hurting you, rushing you, and making you angry. Sometimes it feels like you're a star I could only admire from a distance, never dare to touch or hold. But that's not enough for me. I can't accept it and don't want to. Even if I have to climb to the ends of the earth, just give me a way up and I'll reach for you. I'll keep you close, treasure you in my heart, and spend the rest of my life protecting you."
Tobias's voice was overflowing with emotion, every word dripping with devotion. He looked at Kaia, like she was the center of his universe, the only person in the world that mattered. There was no space left for anyone else in his deep, big eyes.
Kaia wasn't made of stone. She could feel Tobias' warmth and honesty, straight into her heart.
With all that, how could she not be touched?
"But you… you shouldn't have done that to me with everyone watching," Kaia muttered.
"You're right. I went way overboard. I deserved that slap!" Tobias said, half apologizing and half mocking himself.
Then, he took Kaia's hand and swung it against his face.
He didn't hold back. The smack echoed loud and clear.
"What is wrong with you?" Kaia blurted out, utterly exasperated.
Worried Tobias might grab her hand again for more of his weird antics, Kaia quickly curled her fingers into a fist.
Upon seeing her quick little move, Tobias flashed a sly grin, pure delight twinkling in his eyes.
"Yeah, I admit it. I've got it bad! I'm addicted to you, Kaia. What am I supposed to do now? You're Dr. Miracle, the best of the best. Can't you heal me somehow? Honestly, I think I'm past saving at this point," Tobias said, half-joking, half-pleading, his tone shamelessly playful.
Kaia prided herself on staying calm even if the world was falling apart, but Tobias's never-ending barrage of sweet words was enough to crack her armor in seconds.
"You... You're nothing but a hopeless romantic. That's one illness not even I can treat," Kaia shot back, managing to sound annoyed but unable to hide the faint smile tugging at her lips.
"No! Only you can fix me. You're the only cure I've got!" Tobias said, clutching her hands tighter, eyes overflowing with crazy devotion. "Kaia, will you heal me? Will you take this lovesick fool and make me whole?"
With Tobias's unwavering gaze locked onto her, Kaia felt completely pinned by his love, like he was the only thing in her world and there was simply no escape.
Suddenly, all sorts of voices started egging them on from every direction.
"Say yes!" someone called out.
"Say yes!" someone called out.
The sudden commotion snapped Kaia out of her trance. At some point, a whole crowd had gathered to watch the drama unfold.
Gavyn was right at the front, practically leading the chant, shouting the loudest of them all.
"Kaia, hurry up and say yes! Tobias is crazy about you. You miss this chance, and there's no one else like him coming your way!" Gavyn teased, flashing a wide grin.
Kiera, who'd followed the crowd to watch the drama, stood there looking beyond awkward. Her face caught between discomfort and secondhand embarrassment.
"Kaia, say yes to Tobias already! He's a good guy!" Scott called out, hyping up the rest of the crowd.
Tobias's face was shining with excitement. "Kaia, did you hear that? Everyone believes in us! Trust me, and let your heart be mine, and I'll cherish you for a lifetime, I promise."
"I..." Kaia hesitated, flustered. Her mind racing, 'What am I even supposed to say to that?'
Picking up on Kaia's hesitation, Tobias didn't rush her. Instead, he took a step back, letting things settle and giving her space to breathe.
"Look into my eyes and answer me truthfully," Tobias murmured, voice gentle but unwavering.
Kaia gathered herself and lifted her eyes, locking gazes with Tobias's, their emotions tangled in that silent moment.
"Kaia, tell me… Do you hate me?" Tobias said, his tone almost pleading as he looked into her eyes.
Kaia shook her head.
"See? If you don't hate me, it means you like me, right?" Tobias teased, a mischievous grin spreading across his face.
