"Well, Isaac is right, Joel. Just admit it already! Even if you haven't officially gotten together, you two are basically a thing," someone else jumped in.
"Hurry up! Come on!" everyone urged.
Joel glanced down at his watch. More than twenty minutes had passed already. He started to feel uneasy. 'This isn't right... Something's definitely up,' Joel thought, a flicker of anxiety crossing his mind.
"Sorry!" Joel said, urgency in his voice. With surprising force, he shoved his buddies aside without breaking a sweat.
"What the..." Bradley, Isaac, and the rest exchanged bewildered looks, staring at Joel, who suddenly looked deadly serious, like something huge had happened.
"Joel, dude, what's going on?" one of them asked, worry etched in his tone.
"I..." Joel started to say, but before he could finish his words, he saw Chauntae rush over urgently.
"Something's wrong! Something happened!" Chauntae shouted, her voice trembling with panic.
Upon hearing Chauntae's words, Joel slammed his palm down on the table, used the momentum to vault over it, and sprinted over Chauntae in a flash.
"What happened? Where's Kaia? Wasn't she with you? Where is she? Tell me now!" Joel demanded, his voice sharp and urgent.
Joel looked like a beast unleashed, and Chauntae was so stunned that she froze in place. Her brain short-circuited.
After all these years, it was the first time they'd seen Joel like this, breaking out.
Not just Chauntae, even Bradley and all the guys were overwhelmed by Joel's intense vibe.
At that moment, they finally got it. Joel wasn't just their former classmate or buddy. He was the king of boxing, the real deal ruling at the very top of the world!
"Hurry up and tell me! Where is Kaia?" Joel demanded, grabbing Chauntae by the arm and shaking her, panic all over his face.
Chauntae was so frozen by Joel's intensity that her mind couldn't process anything. She stood there, totally blank.
Bradley rushed up and intervened. "Joel, chill out. You're freaking Chauntae out. Calm down."
"Calm down? How the hell am I supposed to calm down? If something happens to Kaia, I'll never forgive myself, no matter what!" Joel's fists clenched so tightly, his knuckles cracked.
Joel's words and the sheer force of his presence made everyone freeze up, stunned all over again.
'Is it really this serious?' everyone thought, a wave of shock flooding their minds.
Bradley suddenly got a sense of what was happening and turned urgently to Chauntae. "Talk to me! Chauntae. What exactly happened? Where's Kaia?"
Chauntae swallowed nervously, starting to snap out of it.
"We were heading back, and all of a sudden, a group of guys with knives jumped us. Kaia told me to run and get help, so I...." Chauntae stammered, still shaking.
Joel was already gone before Chauntae could even get the words out. He launched himself out of there like a bullet.
Bradley waved his arm and shouted, "Guys, let's move! We have to save Kaia!"
"Yeah!" everyone echoed, voices filled with urgency.
The whole crew rushed after Joel, fired up, and moved fast.
By the time they arrived, Joel was wreaking havoc—every punch landed with bone-crushing force, dropping thugs left and right, leaving them sprawled on the ground, crying and wailing in misery.
"Uh, do we even need to help?" Isaac asked, his voice barely more than a squeak.
Bradley shot back, "You mean help picking up the bodies?"
Bradley might've sounded calm, but he was utterly stunned inside.
Usually, Bradley and Joel would joke around, shove each other, maybe spar for fun. But witnessing this hell-on-earth scene, Bradley suddenly felt a cold sweat prickling at his skin and a chill crawling down his back. He finally realized how terrifying it was when the king of boxing cut loose.
As Bradley stood there, totally stunned, he suddenly heard Kaia's voice—calm and collected, like nothing could shake her.
"Don't bother going over. Joel can take care of all of them himself," Kaia said, sounding like it was all just another day.
Bradley snapped back to reality and turned to get a closer look at Kaia.
