Chauntae and the others stared in shock, completely baffled by what was happening.
"What the hell?" Isaac blurted out, echoing everyone's thoughts.
Bradley opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but all he had were guesses. Without any real proof, he didn't dare say anything for sure.
Wilbur pulled out a pen and paper and handed them to Kaia.
"May I get your autograph?" he asked.
Kaia was used to it. "Sure," she replied.
She took the pen and signed her name in bold, elegant strokes.
Wilbur couldn't help but think, 'Damn, that's some gorgeous handwriting!
'Of course, she's Dr. Bennett. Even her autograph looks like something straight out of a calligraphy master's playbook!'
Before long, Wilbur wrapped things up and took the thugs back to be thoroughly grilled.
Kaia turned around and caught Bradley, Chauntae, and the rest staring at her with strange, unreadable looks—so weird that she almost felt uncomfortable, like she was some mystery they couldn't figure out.
Joel walked over to Kaia, saying, "Let me take you home."
"Aren't you gonna keep having skewers with them? I can make it back on my own," Kaia said.
"Your safety comes first," Joel replied, worried that if he left, someone might try something against her again.
Kaia glanced at Bradley and the others. "What about them?"
Bradley stepped up. "No worries. We're all coming with you."
"Alright then," Kaia said.
With everyone tagging along, Kaia returned to Joel's home, surrounded by the whole crew.
Once Kaia disappeared into her room, Bradley grabbed Joel and yanked him aside.
"Spill it, dude! Enough secrets. Seriously, who is Kaia, really?" Bradley urged, not letting up.
Chauntae, Isaac, and the others all leaned in, ears practically twitching.
Joel's brows knitted together, saying, "Well..."
"Cut the crap! Just tell me..." Bradley took a deep breath, glanced nervously at Kaia's room, then blurted out, "Is she... Is she Dr. Bennett?"
Chauntae's eyes were practically popping out of her head in shock.
She thought, 'Wait, what? Did I hear that right? Dr. Bennett? Bradley's actually asking Joel if Kaia is Dr. Bennett?
'No freaking way... There's absolutely no way that's true.
'Dr. Bennett is like a living legend! Why on earth would someone that important end up in a no-name small town like ours?'
Isaac and the others were all dumbfounded, struck speechless by the bombshell.
After a long stretch of silence, Joel finally spoke, his voice low and serious. "Seriously, you guys can't say a word about this to anyone. Promise me."
'Holy crap!' Everyone's minds went numb with shock.
They were all seriously freaking out! No one could believe what they'd heard.
'Joel actually admitted it!' they thought. Their hearts were pounding, and nobody could handle that bombshell.
"She... She..." Chauntae stuttered, her finger trembling as she pointed at Kaia's room door. She was so stunned that she couldn't even string together a full sentence.
Isaac didn't even bother hiding his shock. He squeezed his philtrum tight like he was trying to keep himself from passing out right then and there.
Bradley sucked in a deep breath and let it out. He still felt like his chest was tight.
"I kept thinking, what kind of person could make you so damn nervous? I mean, I had my suspicions, but the truth seemed too crazy to blurt out. Then those punks showed up, and your reaction, plus everything you guys said, that pretty much sealed it for me," Bradley admitted, sounding half-awed, half-freaked.
Still, Bradley's mind was in chaos. No way he would calm down anytime soon.
"Oh my god! That's Dr. Bennett, the greatest scientist in Wustriland! I can't believe I see her in real life, let alone eat skewers and drink beer with her. This is the kind of legendary story I'll be bragging about to my grandkids for the rest of my life!" Bradley blurted out.
"Me, too!" Oliver agreed, nodding enthusiastically.
The rest chipped in right away, hype levels off the charts.
"Count me in!"
"Couldn't agree more. I'm in, too!"

Early the next morning, Kaia had just finished getting ready and stepped outside when she saw Bradley and the whole crew lined up in the yard, looking like they were waiting for something big.
"What's this about?" Kaia asked, raising an eyebrow at the lineup.
Joel walked over with a grin. "Looks like they're all lining up to shake your hand."
Kaia couldn't help but laugh, a little exasperated. She said, "Did you tell them?"
"They figured it out," Joel replied.
"Alright then," Kaia said, giving in.
