As a member of the War Division, Kiera had her own ways and tracked down Kaia's room in no time.
However, Joel was posted right at the door. There was no chance Kiera could get past him.
Just as Kiera was racking her brain for a way in, Devin turned up.
"It's been a while since our last spar. How about you teach me a thing or two?" Devin said to Joel with a grin.
Joel furrowed his brows, shooting a glance back at the door.
"Relax! This place has layers of security. Even a fly couldn't sneak in. Seriously, let's head out for twenty minutes," Devin urged, not giving up.
As Joel hesitated, Kaia's voice floated out the room.
"Joel, go with him. I could use a little rest," she called.
"Alright, just try not to go anywhere. I'll be back before you know it," Joel said.
"Got it," Kaia replied.
It wasn't until Joel and Devin had left and things had quieted down that Kiera finally poked her head out.
'I can't believe my luck!' Kiera thought.
Kiera looked around nervously, then hurried to Kaia's door.
She was wearing her War Division uniform, so the people watching the monitors didn't notice a thing.
Kaia had just popped open her suitcase, grabbing clothes for a shower, when a knock sounded at the door.
'Who's showing up now?' Kaia thought, her guard immediately up.
However, before Kaia could call out, the door suddenly swung wide, and someone stormed in.
"I'm so sorry, Dr. Bennett!" Kiera blurted out, bowing so deeply she was practically doubled over.
"My grandfather is Victor Yates. I've admired you for as long as I can remember, but he wouldn't let me come, so I had no choice but to sneak in. I swear, I mean no harm. I just wanted to meet you and make sure you're alright!"
After she finished babbling, Kiera noticed it had gotten eerily quiet in the room.
The silence was so thick that it gave her the creeps. 'Wait, what's going on?' Kiera thought nervously.
She slowly raised her head, and the moment she saw the person before her, her jaw nearly hit the floor.
"Kaia? Why is it you? What are you doing in Dr. Bennett's room?" Kiera exclaimed, her voice full of disbelief.
Kaia was surprised to see Kiera pop up out of nowhere
Kaia was still standing there, stunned and silent, which made Kiera jump to her own conclusions.
"Ah, I see! You also admire Dr. Bennett, don't you? So you sneaked in like me, hoping to get on her good side, right?" Kiera said, looking smug.
Kaia let out a soft chuckle. "You haven't changed and always so sure you're right."
"Oh, don't bother denying it. This is exactly what's happening. Kaia, I never thought we'd be thinking alike! Fine, let's place a bet. Let's see who meets Dr. Bennett first, and who she favors more!" Kiera said.
Kiera raised her head even higher, brimming with confidence. In her mind, there was no way Dr. Bennett would choose Kaia over her.
Kaia usually couldn't care less about silly bets like that, but seeing Kiera showing off like a peacock, all cocky and confident, actually sparked her interest.
"Fine. I'm in. But let's make it clear from the start. What happens if you lose?" Kaia said, a teasing glint in her eyes.
"If I lose, I'm yours to boss around. Whatever you say goes," Kiera shot back, not backing down for a second.
"That condition means nothing. Last time we made a bet, you agreed to do whatever I said if you lost," Kaia said, arching an eyebrow.
Kiera retorted through clenched teeth, "Then what do you want?"
"Hmm... Let me think. Oh, I've got it!" Kaia quipped, a wicked grin tugging at her lips. "If you lose, you have to quit strutting around like you own the place. No more flaunting the Yates family pedigree to get your way or push people around."
"Who's throwing their weight around here? Who's so full of themselves?!" Kiera huffed, chest rising and falling from anger.
Kaia shook her head. "Sad, really. You don't even know who you've become."
"What did you just say?" Kiera snapped, disbelief and fury flashing in her eyes.
