'What does it matter to me? At least, what does it matter to the person I am pretending to be right now?' Kaia thought, feeling disconnected.
Still, Kaia played along, asking lazily, "Oh? Go on."
Tobias's smile radiated warmth, his eyes deep as the ocean and glimmering with heartfelt affection. He stood close to Kaia, leaning in with a subtly raised brow and a gentle, teasing curl to his lips.
"Because before I left, I promised a girl, the one I love most in this life, that I'd never let myself be surrounded by other women. I'd keep myself only for her, and her alone," Tobias said with conviction.
Kaia met Tobias's gaze. Those star-bright eyes were filled with passionate adoration, feeling the heat of his emotions burning only for her.
For that moment, it was as if the whole world had come to a standstill; only the two of them existed, lost in each other's eyes.
Kaia wasn't sure how long she'd been caught in that daze before reality finally came rushing back.
On the outside, she looked perfectly composed, but inside, her heart was racing wildly, totally beyond her control. 'Ugh, why does he have this effect on me?' she thought, flustered.
Just then, a tall, seriously good-looking guy appeared out of nowhere.
"Hello, Dr. Bennett," said the guy.
The blond, blue-eyed guy handed Kaia a single, vibrant red rose, looking at her with obvious affection.
Tobias's face went cold instantly. Before Kaia could do anything, he moved in, planting himself firmly between her and the newcomer, completely shielding her from the guy's gaze.
"She's allergic to roses," Tobias spoke in authentic and fluent Kolish.
"Oh, sorry. I had no idea. I'll go and find another flower," the guy stammered, a little embarrassed as he awkwardly pulled his hand back.
"Don't bother. She doesn't need flowers," Tobias shot back, voice firm and possessive.
The guy wasn't clueless. He could tell Tobias was openly staking his territory, obviously not willing to let any other man make a move on Kaia.
"Why are you saying that?" the guy pressed, his tone carrying more anxiety than confidence.
Tobias fixed him with an icy stare, his height alone enough to make the guy feel small. The cold, calculating look in his eyes, combined with the natural, commanding aura he gave off, was enough to make anyone second-guess themselves. The atmosphere grew heavy, and the guy could feel his courage slipping away.
Seconds dragged by like hours as the tension mounted, until the guy finally cracked, stepping back, only then realizing his shirt was sticking to his back, drenched with cold sweat.
Tobias shot a cold, dismissive glare at the guy fleeing the scene. But when he glanced back, Kaia slipped away, not lingering for a second.
"Where are you headed?" Tobias called, his long stride closing the gap between them effortlessly as he followed Kaia with that signature elegance.
Kaia could only sigh inwardly, 'Seriously? Tobias won't give up.' She felt helpless and a bit fed up by his relentless pursuit.
"Stop following me. I'm going to the restroom," she said, her tone flat and unyielding.
"Great, that's what I needed. I'll go with you," Tobias replied, not missing a beat, clearly enjoying himself.
Kaia stared at him, utterly speechless.
Meanwhile, not far away, Kiera caught the whole scene.
"Huh? Looks like Tobias is seriously into Dr. Bennett. Is he planning to make a move on her or what?" Allison muttered, curiosity flickering in her eyes.
Kiera was startled by the thought in her mind, then let out a cold, mocking laugh. "Kaia and Dr. Bennett? It's like comparing a firefly to the sun or moon. Of course, Tobias would ditch Kaia for Dr. Bennett. If I were a man, I'd go for Dr. Bennett, too."
As for Kaia... Kiera could practically taste the satisfaction of watching her crash and burn.
Not only would Kaia lose their bet, but Kaia'd also lose her boyfriend.
'Serves her right. That's what she gets for going up against me,' Kiera gloated inwardly, feeling a rush of satisfaction.
When Kaia stepped out of the restroom, she found Tobias still waiting right outside.
'Seriously, is Tobias glued to me or what? Why won't he leave already?' Kaia grumbled inwardly, exasperated.
Just as she was thinking that, Tobias suddenly stepped forward. "Dr. Bennett, there's something on your mask."
As he spoke, Tobias reached out, his hand moving toward her face.
Kaia's eyes widened in alarm as she snapped back, managing to avoid Tobias's fingertips. 'Damn, that was close,' she thought, her heart pounding.
