Kaia knew Kiera was only saying that because Tobias happened to be Gavyn's brother, not out of any concern for her. The whole thing left her helplessly amused.
"But you and Gavyn aren't even a thing anymore," Kaia pointed out.
"So what? That's just temporary. In the end, he'll still be mine," Kiera declared with chin held high and full of confidence.
"You know, my dad once hired a fortune-teller who said Gavyn and I are soulmates. So, no matter what, I'm the destiny he just can't escape," Kiera said, oozing confidence.
Kaia's lips twitched, and for a moment, she had nothing to say.
"Alright, we'll go together," Kaia agreed.
"Yep," Kiera shot back, taking the lead with brisk steps.
"I'll take point. If anything happens, I'll make sure to protect you," Kiera declared.
"There's not really any danger right now, so you can do whatever you want," Kaia said, too tired to argue anymore.
Kiera glanced over at Kaia, but kept quiet and just kept walking.
They managed to cover some distance before Kaia, who had been following behind Kiera, suddenly called out, "Kiera, I think I just saw someone run off over there. Hurry and check it out."
Kiera scrunched her eyebrows, following Kaia's gaze to the far side of the street.
"You think we're being watched?" Kiera asked.
"No clue. I didn't get a chance to see who it was before they bolted," Kaia answered.
"I'll go check. Stay close to me and don't lose sight," Kiera instructed.
"Got it," Kaia replied.
Kiera crept forward, testing each step as she wandered deeper into the alley.
The further in she went, the deeper her frown got.
"This is a dead end. Kaia, are you sure you saw someone?" Kiera asked, sounding pretty skeptical.
Kaia squinted slightly as she listened, then took the chance to strike and smacked Kiera hard right on the back of her neck.
Pain shot through Kiera's neck, and she froze up instantly.
Mustering her last bit of willpower, Kiera managed to turn around as she shot Kaia a look of utter disbelief. "You...You actually ambushed me? What a low blow!"
And with that, Kiera dropped to the ground.
Kaia let out a helpless sigh. "It's just like you said. It would have been difficult to knock you out if you were on guard. But the moment you let your guard down, you gave me full control. You made it way too easy to take you out."
After dealing with Kiera, Kaia made her way to the address she'd been sent.
There, right by the endless ocean, stood a sprawling private villa.
The villa was surrounded by water on all sides, with waves crashing against the rocks, sending spray shooting up again and again.
The whole place was eerie, with tension in the air like there was some hidden danger waiting to explode.
Most people would've turned around and run from a place that gave off such a creepy, foreboding vibe. On the other hand, Kaia barely glanced at her surroundings, utterly unfazed, and headed straight for the villa, her expression calm as ever.
Her stride was steady and full of purpose, every movement carrying the kind of heroic resolve you only see from legends in the movies.
It was like she was born for chaos, like no threat or odds could ever rattle her, no matter what she walked into.
Kaia stepped up to the entrance.
Not missing a beat, the guards outside snapped their guns into position, each muzzle locked on her without a flicker of hesitation.
Kaia watched all of this unfold, a faint smirk tugging at her lips, but her smile never reached her eyes.
"Wasn't it you guys who invited me over? Is this your way of telling me to leave now?" Kaia said, unimpressed.
