When Kaia saw Tobias pressing his hand over the spot where he'd been shot, her nerves shot through the roof. "Did you hurt your wound falling while protecting me? Come on, unbutton it and show me," Kaia urged, reaching for his shirt.
As she spoke, she moved to pull his shirt open. But just as her fingers brushed the buttons, Tobias caught her hand in his, gently closing his palm around hers.
"Hey, dummy—I'm not hurting at all. I'm just so happy, so ridiculously happy right now. My heart's beating like crazy because you care about me so much," Tobias murmured.
Kaia met Tobias's intense gaze, brimming with emotion, and suddenly felt heat on her cheeks. "You're totally saying that just to mess with me!" she shot back.
"Not messing with you. I mean it—I'm really, genuinely happy," Tobias said, squeezing her tightly. His deep eyes were gazing at her, as if they could swallow her whole.
"Kaia, did I pass your challenge? Will you say yes to me now?" Tobias asked hopefully.
Kaia's ears flushed red as she nervously turned her head away, refusing to meet Tobias's hypnotic gaze. "I have no idea what you're talking about," she muttered, still avoiding his eyes.
Seeing her dodge the question, Tobias tightened his arms around her waist, pulling her even closer. "Kaia, for real—don't torture me like this, okay? Remember, I'm technically still an injured man! Can you just put me out of my misery and say yes now?" Tobias pleaded.
Kaia raised her eyes, taking a long, careful look at Tobias's handsome face. Even though he'd mostly recovered, his face was still pale, every bit of exhaustion visible.
Thinking back on how much he'd done for her—how his devotion had gone beyond what anyone else would ever give—her heart softened, and deep inside, she quietly made her decision. "Alright, I'll say yes," she said, her voice gentle.
Tobias's eyes lit up, so excited he could hardly contain himself. He pulled Kaia into a fierce hug, refusing to let her go. "Kaia, Kaia! You're finally mine, really and truly mine now!" Tobias practically yelled, his voice ringing out with unstoppable joy.
He was loud and absolutely unapologetic about it, like he wanted to announce to the entire world that Kaia belonged to him. The shout was so loud, it carried all the way up to Joel in the helicopter overhead.
Joel glanced down, spotting Tobias and Kaia wrapped up in each other's arms—and broke into a grin, his own happiness blooming as he watched them.
Just then, Joel's earpiece buzzed with an urgent report from his squad. "Mr. Graham, we've got the place locked down. What's your order?" the voice came through, tense and ready.
Joel's smile vanished, his voice dropping to a deadly chill. "Grab every last one of them. If anyone fights back—take them out."
He hesitated for a split second, then added sharply, "And that Augusto—don't let him slip away. I want him alive." As Joel gave command, a cold, merciless glint flashed across his face. Anyone who had dared to hurt Kaia—Joel had never let them off easy.
If Augusto had died here, it would've been far too easy on him—he didn't deserve such mercy. Joel had wanted him alive, to make him personally experience what hell on earth truly felt like.
Kaia spotted a bunch of folks leaning out of the helicopter above, all staring their way. She suddenly felt a hot blush rise on her cheeks. "Why are you so loud? Worried someone might not hear you?" Kaia whispered, her face heating up even more from embarrassment.
Tobias grinned, totally unapologetic. "Honestly? Yeah, I'm terrified someone might miss it. Gotta make sure everyone knows the best girl in the world is mine."
"You..." She couldn't get out a single word in the face of Tobias's shameless swagger, cheeks burning even hotter as she gaped at him. "You really have no shame."
"Exactly! I've got zero shame and I love it," Tobias laughed, completely unabashed, flashing her a boyish grin.
Before Kaia realized what was happening, Tobias pounced on her, playfully pinning her down. "Honestly, why bother with a little shame in front of my own girl? Seriously, does pride even matter when I get you?" he teased, his voice full of mischief.
