'Tobias always keeps people at arm's length and radiates a kind of unapproachable authority when he's out in public,' Kaia thought, watching him. 'But looking at him right now, he's just so childish—like an excited kid.'
Seeing Kaia stay quiet, Tobias pressed again, just to be sure. "Honey, are you for real? You're not messing with me, right?"
Kaia arched an eyebrow at him. "Do I look like the type to joke about something like this?"
As soon as he got her answer, Tobias was over the moon—he lifted Kaia right off her chair and whirled her around, unable to stop himself from spinning in pure delight.
Kaia got swept up in his joy and grabbed his shoulders to keep herself steady. "Stop spinning, seriously! If you don't, I'm gonna pass out," she complained, half-laughing, clearly flustered.
Tobias was so thrilled he couldn't sit still. "I'm calling Grandpa over right now—he can help us pick out the perfect wedding date!" He rushed off and dragged Keaton over, blurting out that Kaia had actually agreed to marry him.
Keaton was all smiles—he immediately pulled out a book and started flipping through, searching for the perfect date for their wedding. "According to your birth charts, the best time for your wedding would be early next year," Keaton announced, nodding with certainty.
Tobias's face fell. "Early next year? That's still months away! Isn't there any good date coming up?"
"A wedding is a big deal—you can't rush it," Keaton teased, watching Tobias practically bouncing with impatience. "Back when I tried to set you up, you couldn't wait to get out of it. Now look at you—suddenly in a hurry."
Tobias just grinned shamelessly. "Hey, that was then, this is now." With that, he turned to Kaia and reached out, taking her hand in his.
"Kaia, Grandpa says we have to wait until early next year—that's ages away! Aren't you impatient too? Come on, why wait? How about we tie the knot tonight and make it official right now?" Tobias suggested.
Kaia shot him a helpless look, the corner of her mouth twitching. "Didn't you say you wanted a grand wedding? Now it's already nighttime, and you want to do it all slapdash, just like that?"
"Promise me you won't try to escape before then," he whined, sounding like he might actually be worried she'd disappear.
At his words, Kaia's expression abruptly turned stern. "Tobias, what kind of woman do you take me for? Since I said yes to marrying you, it means you're the only one in my heart, no holding back. But if you can't even trust me on something so basic, then maybe we shouldn't get married at all," Kaia said, steady and unwavering.
At that, Tobias immediately panicked, his nerves on full display. "Kaia, it's my fault—I was being stupid. Don't be mad, please."
Keaton watched his grandson fuss over Kaia and couldn't stop a satisfied grin from spreading across his face.
This was what it meant to be a Moreno man—knowing when to yield, when to stand firm, and cherishing his woman so completely that no one else could ever compare. That was how he ensured she would remain his, wholly and forever.
Once Tobias had finally gotten Kaia to cheer up again, he dove right into putting together the guest list for the wedding. "Kaia, do you have anyone special you want to invite from your side? Need me to help you with your list?" Tobias asked, clearly eager.
Kaia thought for a moment and shook her head. "I've got quite a few people of my own. I'll handle it myself, thanks."
"You're the best," Tobias said, grinning as he came up behind her and started kneading her shoulders.
Kaia just chuckled in exasperation, her mind already busy figuring out who needed to be on her list.
Owen and the entire Webb family were definitely on the guest list, along with her students, the Emerald Association president, and Samantha. Her martial arts seniors and masters were must-invites, as were Horace, the former president of Morganburg University, and Cissy, head of the Piano Association.
'Who else... I need to think this through carefully, can't afford to forget anyone,' Kaia reminded herself.
In the study, Tobias was meticulously working on the guest list for the engagement party, making sure not a single important name was left out. Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.
He set his pen down and called out, "Come in."
Soon, Jameson pushed the door open, with Judith trailing right behind him.
Tobias blinked, a flicker of surprise passing through his eyes at the sight of them. "Uncle Jameson, Aunt Judith, what brings you guys here?" Tobias asked.
Jameson and Judith shared a glance, then Judith spoke up. "Tobias, is it true you're tying the knot with Kaia?"
The moment Kaia's name was mentioned, Tobias's eyes softened, a warm smile lighting up his face. "Yeah," he replied.
Judith pinched her brows, looking conflicted and uneasy. "Tobias, I don't mean to judge, but I really think Kaia's not the right match for you. So I found you someone who is absolutely perfect; everything about her is top-notch. Honestly, she's way better suited to you than Kaia. Why not meet her just once? You never know, the two of you might really get along," Judith urged, trying to sound encouraging.
Tobias realized exactly what Judith was suggesting, his brows pulling together in a slight frown. "So, Aunt Judith, you actually want me to go on a blind date with someone else?" Tobias asked, a hint of disbelief and sarcasm in his voice.
Seeing Kaia stay quiet, Tobias pressed again, just to be sure. "Honey, are you for real? You're not messing with me, right?"
