Judith's heart skipped a beat at the seriousness in his voice. She forced a smile and said, "I'm not setting you up on a blind date—just thought you could meet her, chat, get to know each other a little."
Tobias kept his face stone-cold and replied, deadly serious, "Aunt Judith, I'm only ever marrying Kaia. No one else, ever. So please, stop playing the matchmaker with me."
Judith's expression darkened. "Tobias, honestly, do you really think it's wise to indulge her this much? Aren't you afraid she'll end up completely spoiled?"
Tobias raised his eyebrow in response. "Does that mean you don't want your husband to treat you like royalty? Or maybe it's just that Uncle Jameson doesn't treat you well enough, so you're jealous Kaia's got a man who knows how to treat her well?"
Every woman had wanted her husband to treat her like she was the center of the world, and Judith had been no exception. Hearing Tobias say that, her heart had twisted with envy and jealousy. She had abruptly turned, directing all her frustration at Jameson.
Jameson didn't need Judith to say a word—just her look was enough to set off alarm bells in his head. Instantly, sweat was pouring down his face as he scrambled to save himself.
"Dear—come on, haven't I been good to you? Whatever you want, I buy it; whatever you say, I do it—honestly, you're basically my boss! You're my everything! I'm already giving you the best of everything I've got, so please, don't look at me like that, I'm begging you," Jameson pleaded.
Judith's lips curled into a satisfied smile—clearly happy with how quickly Jameson got the message and just how well-trained her husband was. "Now that's what I like to hear," she replied.
Seeing Judith's smile, Tobias grinned and added, "Aunt Judith, just look at how well Uncle Jameson treats you—he spoils you without even worrying about it. So why can't I do the same for my wife? Why should I be afraid of spoiling her?"
Judith was at a loss for words, her lips moving soundlessly as no reply came out.
"Aunt Judith, if there's nothing else, you two should head back. I've got some work to take care of," Tobias said, giving her a graceful exit since he knew she had run out of words. After all, Judith was his uncle's wife—definitely someone he had to show proper respect to.
Judith forced a smile. "Alright, we won't keep you. You get back to work, and we'll head out." With that, she walked over and took Jameson by the sleeve, tugging him along as they left.
Once they got home, Judith grew more and more frustrated, endlessly pacing around the living room as her irritation bubbled over.
"I really don't understand it. What's so special about Kaia apart from her face? The Moreno family is rich and influential—Tobias could have any debutante he wanted. Why on earth is he so obsessed with Kaia, acting like she's the only girl he could ever fall for?" Judith fumed.
Jameson got up, guided her gently to the couch, and tried to comfort her, rubbing her back and helping her get her nerves under control. "If this doesn't work out, we'll figure something else out. Seriously, don't stress yourself—none of this is worth making yourself sick," he said gently.
Judith didn't reply; her brow stayed tightly knit as she silently tried to plot her next move. Suddenly, an idea hit her—and her eyes sparkled. "Hey, do you remember Mr. Adkins's granddaughter, Grace?" Judith asked.
Jameson thought back for a moment and said, "Oh yeah, Grace and Tobias basically grew up together—they were super close. Everyone thought they'd end up as a couple. But then she went off to study abroad, and the two of them lost touch."
"That's her! She wasn't just close with Tobias—they were inseparable growing up. Plus, let me spill a little insider info: she's been into Tobias since way back, never even considered dating anyone else. Just imagine how she'd react if she found out Tobias was marrying someone else," Judith said, her eyes gleaming with mischief.
Jameson caught on instantly. "So you want to use her to drive a wedge between Tobias and Kaia?"
"That's right," Judith nodded with conviction. "Once she's back, I'm sure Tobias would choose her in a heartbeat."
Tobias kept his face stone-cold and replied, deadly serious, "Aunt Judith, I'm only ever marrying Kaia. No one else, ever. So please, stop playing the matchmaker with me."
