Kaia raised an eyebrow and glanced back at him. "Since you're the one I picked, I'm sticking with you for life—I won't waver or walk away easily. But if you ever let me down, don't blame me for dumping you without a second thought," she warned, half-teasing but dead serious.
She trusted Tobias—she knew he wasn't that kind of guy. That was the only reason she'd said yes to marrying him. Still, some things had to be made clear, no matter what.
Tobias raised his hand, his expression grave as he looked at her. "Kaia, I swear with my life, I'd never do anything to hurt you. If I ever did, may lightning strike me down, and may I never rest in peace—"
Before he could finish, Kaia clamped a hand over his mouth. "Why would you curse yourself like that?" Kaia protested.
Tobias kissed her palm lightly. "Are you feeling sorry for me, Kaia?"
Kaia felt the warmth and dampness on her palm and snapped her hand back like she'd touched a live wire. Unfazed, she replied, "I wouldn't say I feel sorry for you. I'm worried that if something ever happened to you, I'd have to find someone else. Just thinking about it is exhausting."
"You're worrying too much. You won't have that problem—I'm more than enough for you," Tobias huffed lightly, then picked Kaia up in his arms and headed for the bedroom.
The next thing Kaia knew, she was sprawled out on the soft bed. "What are you doing?" she blurted out. Instinctively, she propped herself up, about to spring away.
But Tobias was faster. He wrapped his arms around her waist, holding her snugly against him, enclosing her completely in his embrace. "What do you think I'm doing?" he teased, his voice husky with mischief.
Her face flushed fiercely—Kaia's cheeks went scarlet in an instant, not even sure what she was feeling. "We're not officially married yet, okay? So don't try anything," Kaia blurted out, trying her best to sound stern.
"I know," Tobias said, his voice low and rough. He brushed her hair aside and kissed her smooth forehead gently. "I'm only kissing you, nothing else," he promised with a playful grin.
Kaia's grip on his shirt slackened a bit. "Then get on with it—and don't you dare push your luck," she muttered, half embarrassed, half warning.
As soon as the words left her mouth, Tobias leaned in, his kiss cool and minty, stealing her breath and swallowing up everything but him. Kaia thought about how close they'd gotten. No need to play coy now—she wrapped her arms around him and kissed him back, pouring all her feelings into it.
Ten minutes ticked by, and Tobias's breathing turned rough, each deep and desperate. Realizing his self-control was about to snap, he stopped himself just in time and pressed his forehead against hers, trying to steady both their racing hearts.
"Kaia, I like you so damn much," he murmured, his voice low, still trembling from their kiss.
Kaia didn't say a word, but her arms tightened around him, holding him close—her embrace said everything she couldn't put into words.
They just held each other in silence, neither needing to say a thing. Even in that simple embrace, the air was thick with sweetness, like the whole world had stopped just for them.

Once Kaia finally had some downtime, she remembered the promise she'd made to help Collin out, so she grabbed her phone and called him. "Mr. Crawford, do you still remember I told you Ms. Unity was going to give you some pointers?" Kaia asked.
Just hearing that made Collin light up in an instant. "Of course I remember! Ever since that art show, I've been thinking about it nonstop, waiting for your call. But you never called, and I figured you must be busy, so I didn't dare bug you. Now that I finally hear from you—I was seriously about to go nuts waiting," Collin said, totally hyped.
