While the three members of the Moreno family were each caught up in their own thoughts, they saw Kaia walk straight past them, not even sparing them a single glance.
Emma was so furious that her face was practically green—she looked like she was about to explode. "That little devil! She's getting more and more out of control, treating us like we're invisible. She has absolutely no manners!" Emma snapped.
Saying that, she immediately tried to rush over, ready to point at Kaia's face and curse her out. She just couldn't swallow her anger. But just as she took two steps, Melvin grabbed her arm.
"Come on, we know exactly how she is now. What's the point of getting worked up? And remember why we're here in the first place. Just sit down and keep your cool—no unnecessary drama," Melvin said.
They had arrived to discuss a potential partnership with Serene Coffee Lounge. Securing this deal would mean a significant windfall for the Bennett family. Between scolding Kaia and securing the family's interests, the family's interests obviously took priority.
At Melvin's words, Emma swallowed down her fury and slammed herself into the chair, seething but silent. After finally calming herself down, Emma looked around impatiently.
"Seriously, where's the owner of Serene Coffee Lounge? We've been waiting all this time, and he still hasn't shown up," Emma grumbled.
Melvin glanced at his watch. "It's taking forever. I'll go ask someone."
"I'm coming too," Emma said, standing up and tagging along as Melvin headed to the front desk.
At the counter, Melvin asked a staff member, "Hey, do you know where your boss is?"
The staff member glanced up and replied, "Our boss? He stepped out for a bit."
Melvin asked, "Any idea when he's coming back?"
"Can't say for sure. Was there something you wanted with him?" the staff member followed up.
"We're here to talk business," Melvin answered.
The staff member nodded knowingly. "Alright. Why don't you go back home first? Once he's back, I'll let you know."
Melvin waved his hand. "No need. We'll just wait here. Shows we mean business."
"Alright, suit yourselves," the staff member replied, then put his head down and started going over receipts, ignoring Melvin and Emma completely.
"Thanks," Melvin said politely, guiding Emma back to their seats.
As soon as they sat down, Emma scowled, glaring in the staff member's direction. "Seriously, what kind of attitude is that? We're the Bennett family, and that staff thinks he can treat us like we're nobody? Unbelievable, just looking down on us!" Emma muttered, still fuming inside.
"Keep your voice down. Don't let anyone overhear," Melvin cautioned.
He glanced over at the staff, making sure they weren't watching, then spoke in a low voice only Emma could hear: "Seriously, don't look down on Serene Coffee Lounge. It has a reputation—big time. So mind what you say, or you might end up offending someone you shouldn't."
Emma rolled her eyes, clearly unimpressed. "Come on, it's only a lounge. How big of a deal could it be?"
"Shows what you know. Among the business crowd, there's a rumor circulating about Serene Coffee Lounge," Melvin replied.
"What kind of rumor?" Emma asked.
"Word is, the Serene Coffee Lounge is backed by someone seriously powerful," Melvin murmured, his voice dropping lower.
"Stop being so cryptic and just tell me—who's this big shot?" Emma pressed, sounding impatient.
