Leo was totally lost, scratching his head in confusion. "Manager, who is it? Who could make you this nervous?"
Watching all this, Melvin, Emma, and Andrea couldn't help but get really curious. They couldn't help but wonder who in the world could make the manager of Serene Coffee Lounge so anxious; he looked as if he was about to wear out his own legs.
Seeing that Leo still missed the point, the manager was sweating bullets and pacing anxiously, clearly freaked out. "Who else could it be? Of course, it's Ms. Unity! Someone at the door just told me she might've arrived, but where is she now? Did she just vanish?" the manager said, flustered.
When Melvin, Emma, and Andrea heard the name, their jaws practically hit the floor—the shock was written all over their faces. They traded looks, eyes wide with disbelief.
They'd come to Serene Coffee Lounge today to discuss a deal, not expecting something like this. Stumbling into Faye here was the last thing they thought would happen. No way were they leaving without trying to snag a chance to meet her.
"M-Ms. Unity?" Leo stammered, his legs feeling so weak he could barely get the words out. "I... I have no idea who she is. Nobody told me anything about her!" he blurted out, totally flustered.
The manager slapped his thigh, frustrated. "Man, this one's on me! How could I forget you, only just started working here? You haven't even met her, so how could you know what Ms. Unity looks like? Ugh, I really messed up—I should've thought this through."
Leo had never seen the manager this freaked out before. After hesitating for a second, he leaned in and carefully whispered a suggestion. "Why don't we just check the cameras? We'll see exactly which private room Ms. Unity went into," Leo said, hoping it would help.
The manager snapped his head up and gave Leo a hard smack on the back of the head. "Did you suddenly grow a spine or just lose your mind? You want to snoop on Ms. Unity with the security cams? If our boss catches wind of this, he'll skin you alive," the manager snapped.
Leo's head was still numb from the smack, and hearing the manager's warning, he froze, a wave of fear washing over him. "Then... What should we do? Is there really no better solution?"
The manager glanced down the hallway, saw it was empty, and let out a long sigh. "What else can I do? I'll just have to wait here until Ms. Unity comes out and crosses my fingers. She won't be mad at me for messing up."
Leo couldn't help but get swept up in the manager's nervous energy, and before he knew it, he was just as jittery and on edge. "Oh... I'll keep my eyes peeled too," he stammered, hoping to be useful.
Every word they said drifted right into Melvin's ears. 'What a coincidence,' Melvin thought. 'None of us were planning to leave anyway, so we might as well wait and see.'
The manager actually knew Faye, and they were all dying to finally see what she looked like. If they were smart about it and said the right things later, maybe they'd have a shot at getting on her good side—who knows, if luck was on their side, this could really be the opportunity they'd been waiting for.
With Faye's name ringing out all over Wustriland, if the Bennett family managed to connect with her, their standing in Morganburg would shoot through the roof—who knew just how far up the ladder they could climb. This was a golden chance to boost their status, and there was absolutely no way they were letting it slip away.
Melvin was already lost in daydreams of meeting Faye, running countless versions of their encounter through his mind. He rehearsed what to say, carefully planning each word to impress her without seeming obsequious or causing offense.
