Just as Melvin was lost in thought, Andrea suddenly spoke up, "Ms. Unity is in a whole other league compared to Mr. Crawford. If we can get in with her, we'll totally get our dignity back and show Kaia and Mr. Crawford who's boss for all the times they humiliated us."
Emma jumped right away. "Andrea's right. If we can really get on Ms. Unity's good side, we'll finally be able to hold our heads high in front of Kaia and Mr. Crawford and make up for all those humiliating moments. Sure, he's talented and well-known, but if he's foolish enough to side with Kaia, he's not worth our time. Once we're working with Ms. Unity, we'll make sure they regret ever looking down on us."
"Exactly. You two better not mess this up," Melvin said, his eyes glued to the manager and utterly focused on not missing any chance to connect with Faye.
"Got it, Grandpa," Andrea replied.
After Andrea spoke, Emma chimed in. "Don't worry. When it comes to the family's interests, if I drop the ball, I won't forgive myself," Emma said, sounding deadly serious.
Melvin nodded in satisfaction. "Good."
After wrapping up their conversation, the group was glued to the corridor, eyes locked in the row of private rooms. They held their breath and anxiously wondered which one Faye was in—and how long they'd have to wait before she finally appeared.
But Melvin and his family weren't the only ones anxiously waiting—Collin had already arrived two hours earlier and was sitting in a private room, restlessly hoping for Faye to show up.
Though Collin was well past his youth, he fussed in front of the mirror like an anxious teenager—straightening his tie, smoothing his hair, and fretting over every detail of his appearance. The thought kept running through his mind: he couldn't afford to make a bad impression on Faye.
Collin stared at his reflection, silently urging himself to stay composed. This was his chance, and he couldn't afford to mess it up. Drawing a steady breath, he straightened his shoulders, refusing to let his nerves take over.
Kaia had already told him that Faye wasn't planning to take on a disciple, much less someone like him. Still, Collin tried to stay hopeful. After all, Faye had only seen him once. Back when he was three years old, there was no way she'd recognize him now.
So this was his chance—if he could really make a strong impression today, maybe there was still a slim shot at getting Faye to accept him as her disciple. Thinking along those lines, Collin felt some of his tension ebb away. There was still hope. He told himself—he just had to make this work.
But no matter how many times Collin looked out the door or checked the clock, Faye just wasn't showing up. He couldn't help thinking, 'Seriously, how much longer do I have to wait?'
Collin kept glancing at his watch, counting every second, and grumbled to himself, 'Ms. Unity, please hurry up! At this rate, I'll be old and gray before you get here.' Collin was so restless he couldn't sit still, getting up only to sit back down again, when suddenly he heard a sound outside the door.
His eyes lit up instantly, wiping away all his previous anxiety. Collin sprang to his feet and bolted across the room to the door, completely unable to wait—he threw the door open himself and hurried out to greet whoever was coming.
"Ms. Unity, you finally—" But when Collin saw who was actually standing there, his smile froze mid-face, the excitement draining away as he stared in shock.
"M-Miss Bennett? Wait, why—why is it you?" Collin blurted out, totally stunned. Still clinging to hope, Collin craned his neck, searching for any sign of Faye behind Kaia—only to realize she'd come alone. His heart couldn't help but plummet.
"So, Ms. Unity didn't show up? Is she swamped? Did she really send you here just to pass on a message again?" Collin pressed, his voice leaking disappointment.
Even as he spoke, Collin kept peeking behind Kaia, almost begging for Faye to magically appear out of nowhere. But after several desperate glances, the harsh reality set in: it was just Kaia standing there, nobody else showed up—he finally had to accept it.
Whatever faint smile Collin had managed to hold collapsed all at once, leaving him looking completely crestfallen as his excitement flatlined.
