The manager looked annoyed. "What does her connection to our lounge have to do with you?"
"Well..." Melvin choked on his words before continuing, "To be honest, she's my granddaughter. Or rather, she used to be. We've already kicked her out of the family."
"What? You... you actually drove out Ms. Uni..." He nearly slipped up, remembering that Ms. Unity's identity must remain confidential.
But he couldn't blame himself. The news was truly shocking.
To think this family had produced such a master of landscape painting, only to cast her out.
'They must be out of their minds,' he grumbled inwardly.
"You... you really kicked her out?" the manager stammered, still in shock.
"It's not our fault." Melvin sighed, pretending to be helpless and forced into the situation. "Her character was simply too vile—disrespectful to elders, bullying her sister, utterly unfilial. She was worse than an animal."
The manager had barely tolerated him before, but hearing Melvin slander Kaia so viciously made him explode with rage. "How dare you insult Ms. Unity like this? Do you know how the last person who insulted Ms. Unity ended up?"
'What? Ms. Unity?' Melvin froze, totally dumbstruck. 'No freaking way... How could that even be possible?'
As soon as the shock wore off, Melvin burst out, "Ms. Unity? Come on, there's no way she's Ms. Unity! You guys must be mistaken!"
Honestly, Melvin would rather die than believe Kaia was Ms. Unity.
"Yeah, haven't you been deceived by her?" Emma joined in. "She's always boasting and putting on airs in front of others. Actually, she has no real ability. You must keep your eyes open and don't be fooled by her. Before you're in too deep, have security take her away to find the real Ms. Unity. Otherwise, when your boss returns and sees you being so respectful to a fake Ms. Unity, you might lose your position as manager!"
"Deceived? Do you think I'm blind?" the manager retorted angrily. "Ms. Unity has visited our lounge countless times. How could I mistake someone else for her?"
Seeing the manager's furious expression, as if he wanted to devour the Bennett family whole, they finally faced reality.
An establishment like Serene Coffee Lounge would have strict training standards. Besides, as the manager, how could he be so easily fooled by Kaia?
But how could Kaia—whom they had always looked down upon as good-for-nothing trash—be the renowned master of landscape painting, Ms. Unity?
Melvin stiffly turned his neck to look at Kaia, his lips moving but no words coming out, revealing just how shocked he was.
Both Emma and Andrea were equally stunned, but Emma found the news hardest to accept.
Without question, Kaia had always been the person they most despised, loathed, and looked down upon.
Yet now, this same Kaia had transformed into the revered master of landscape painting. How could she accept this?
Emma took a deep breath, hurried over to Kaia, and stared deeply at her with suspicious eyes. "Kaia, are... are you really Ms. Unity?"
Kaia looked expressionlessly at Emma. "Does it matter whether I am or not? It has nothing to do with you. Why bother asking?"
"How can it not matter?" Emma's eyes widened suddenly, so angry she nearly choked. "If you really are Ms. Unity, you must dedicate yourself to serving the entire family, elevating the Bennett family's status in Morganburg's social circles."
Kaia couldn't help but laugh, glancing dismissively at Emma. "Why should I?"
Emma responded with self-righteous conviction, "Because you're a Bennett, of course!"
Kaia crossed her arms, her tone calm and unwavering. "But didn't you kick me out of the family? What happens to the Bennett family is none of my business."
Emma was instantly speechless, rendered silent by Kaia's retort. She looked one second away from blowing her top.
Melvin's eyes shifted to Kaia, suddenly filled with intense calculation. "Kaia, as long as you behave well, I'm willing to give you a chance to redeem yourself and consider letting you return to the Bennett family."
Before Kaia could respond, Collin sneered from the side. "When you looked down on her and drove her out of the family, you weren't like this. Now that you see her value, you come crawling back. You've truly taken shamelessness to the extreme."
Generally, Collin was relatively calm and steady, only speaking out when he truly couldn't hold back.
His intervention now on Kaia's behalf showed how infuriated he was by the Bennett family's audacity.
Melvin's face looked ready to pop a vein as Collin's mocking words landed, but constrained by Collin's status, he could only suppress his anger and not retaliate. "Mr. Crawford, this is our family matter. There's no need for you to interfere."
Collin snorted coldly. "What if I insist on interfering today?"
He had always treated Kaia well before, and now that he knew she was Ms. Unity, he felt even more compelled to protect her. He couldn't stand by and watch her be bullied by these so-called family members.
Melvin hadn't expected Collin to defend Kaia to such an extent, instantly feeling so angry it made his liver ache.
Unable to argue with Collin, he turned his attention back to Kaia.
He said, "Kaia, no matter what, you still carry the Bennett blood. Besides, you're a young woman. Without family as your backbone, what will you do when the people around you eventually leave? Will you cherish this opportunity I'm giving you? Opportunities like this don't come twice. Think carefully."
Kaia responded with absolute decisiveness and finality. "Oh... sorry, but I have not the slightest interest in returning to the Bennett family."
Emma's eyebrows shot up. "Kaia, we've given you a way out. Don't be ungrateful!"
Kaia's lips curved slightly, but her eyes were full of mockery. "Did I ask you for a way out?"
"You... you..." Emma clutched her chest, her eyes rolling back, as if on the verge of passing out from anger at any moment.
Andrea hurried forward to support the unsteady Emma. "Grandma, are you okay? Are you all right?"
Then she turned to Kaia and said, "Kaia, Grandma is elderly. Can you stop provoking her like this?"
Kaia glanced indifferently at Andrea. "Since when do I need you to tell me what to do? Or do you not want to stay at Morganburg University anymore?"
