The more Andrea thought about it, the more her panic grew.
She pressed her hands together and silently begged in her heart, 'Please, God, let my wild guess be wrong. Kaia absolutely cannot be Dr. Bennett. I'm begging you, make this wish come true.'
After praying, another thought occurred to her.
Truthfully, Dr. Bennett was incredibly accomplished, a shining light in Wustriland's research field. It was highly unlikely Kaia could be her.
Although she admitted Kaia was exceptional in some areas, how could she possibly be a master forensic expert, a top-tier painting master, and a research luminary like Dr. Bennett in her spare time? That simply wasn't humanly possible.
Andrea felt somewhat comforted, and the heavy stone in her heart gradually lightened.
Seeing Andrea remain silent, the Bennett family didn't press her further, only shaking their heads and sighing incessantly.
But Phoebe had no intention of letting Andrea off so easily. "Andrea? Cat got your tongue? Why aren't you speaking? Has your true face been exposed, leaving you speechless?"
Andrea hung her head, her small face pale, tears streaming from the corners of her eyes. "I... I know... now... now Kaia is the most, most, most amazing person in your eyes... and I... I'm worthless, undeserving of the family's love...
"But... but I can't bring myself to admit to things I haven't done... I've... I've stated the facts. Whether you believe me or not is up to you. If you don't believe me, there's nothing more I can say."
After all, Andrea was the daughter they had loved for over twenty years. Seeing her cry so pitifully, Ruth felt a twinge of compassion. "Alright, we'll deal with Andrea's matter later. The urgent task now is how to persuade Kaia to paint for us."
At this, everyone fell silent.
Simply because Kaia was too difficult to handle, no one wanted to take on what seemed like a hopeless task.
But letting go of such immense potential wealth? Only a fool would do that. Someone had to step up and try, regardless of the outcome.
Finally, Johnny stepped forward with his wife. "Since none of you want to go, we'll give it a try. Although we weren't particularly good to Kaia when she was home, we weren't terribly bad. If we talk to her properly, she should give us some face."
Melvin immediately approved the proposal. "Fine! Then the task of inviting Kaia is yours. This concerns the entire Bennett family's interests. We hope you won't disappoint us."
"Dad, I can't guarantee anything. We can only try. If it doesn't work out, you can't blame me," Johnny said.
"Well..." Melvin started to speak, but was interrupted by Emma.
"Kaia has such a strange temperament. It's good enough that they are willing to go. Don't set your expectations too high. Let's just wait quietly at home for news."
Considering Kaia's personality, Melvin immediately saw the sense in Emma's words. "Alright then, you go and try. Whether you succeed or not, I won't blame you."
Johnny nodded. "Okay, Dad. We'll go wait for Kaia at Morganburg University first thing tomorrow."
The next morning, at the gates of Morganburg University.
Kaia was catching up with Penny, who was bubbling over with all the funny stories that had gone down at school while Kaia was away, when a familiar voice suddenly reached her ears.
"Kaia, finally! You really kept us waiting," Johnny said.
Kaia turned around and saw Johnny and his wife hurrying toward her.
She already had a pretty good idea why they were here, but she pretended not to know, asking indifferently, "Do you need something?"
Johnny thought, 'I'm still your uncle. How can you treat me with such an attitude? No wonder Mom, Dad, and your parents didn't want to come. Who could stand this attitude?'
But then he remembered Kaia's status as Ms. Unity and decided to let it slide.
After all, Kaia was now the ladder and bridge for the Bennett family to reach the top echelons of society. Naturally, he had to coax and flatter her.
Thinking this, Johnny's smile instantly widened. "Kaia, we came because we have something important to discuss with you."
His gaze shifted to Penny beside Kaia. "Um... this is a family matter. Could we speak privately?"
Kaia didn't mind this. Besides, some words really weren't suitable for outsiders to hear. So she turned to Penny and said, "Could you go ahead first? I'll talk with them."
Remembering Kaia's formidable fighting skills, Penny thought these two posed no threat and obediently went to the other side. "Okay."
Kaia followed them to a spot on the left, her tone carrying a touch of aloof indifference. "You can speak now."
Johnny was quite angered by Kaia's attitude, but remembering her status as Ms. Unity, he barely managed to suppress his anger. "So, Kaia, we know you're Ms. Unity now. I came specifically to talk to you properly."
Kaia had known this was why they sought her out; it was exactly as she expected. "I'm right here. Just say what you have to say directly. No need to beat around the bush."
Johnny took a deep breath and dove right in. "Kaia, look, I get that you're still sore about everything that went down when you left home, but come on, no family really holds a grudge forever. Your parents aren't mad anymore.
"Honestly, they just feel awkward reaching out to themselves, so here I am instead. As their daughter, maybe you could meet them halfway and give everyone a shot at making things right."
Kaia casually scratched her ear, her tone so flat it held no fluctuation. "And then?"
Her response was essentially non-committal, leaving Johnny unsure how to proceed.
Johnny frowned, took a deep breath, and, while observing Kaia's attitude, tentatively continued, I know you value relationships and loyalty. It's just that the family misunderstood you before.
"Even if you want to repair the relationship with your parents, you might find it hard to speak up. How about this: you paint a piece first, and I'll take it back for you. I believe when they see your painting, they will definitely choose to forgive you."
Kaia crossed her arms, looking at Johnny with utter disdain.
Her posture and eyes were clearly filled with thick mockery.
