"Your scheming is practically slapping me in the face, and you think I don't know what you're plotting?" Kaia snapped.
Johnny was gritting his teeth in anger at Kaia's retort, but remembering how useful she could be to the family, he didn't let it show. "Kaia, don't misunderstand. We're doing this to help mend your relationship with your parents, nothing else."
"Mend the relationship?" Kaia found it both mocking and laughable. "If Lincoln and Ruth were truly sincere, why didn't they come themselves? Of course, even if they did come, I wouldn't agree. In my eyes, they are not my parents anymore.
"And what do you count as? Arrogantly coming here to scheme against me? Where exactly do you get the confidence that I would agree?"
Johnny, his pathetic vanity pricked, flushed red. "Kaia! No matter how high your achievements, such disrespect for your elders shows you're rebellious and ill-bred at your core!"
Kaia couldn't help but laugh, stepping closer to Johnny with an amused smile. "My good manners are reserved for those who deserve them. Do you think you qualify? Trash!"
"Who are you calling trash?" Johnny's face turned purple with rage.
"If the shoe fits, wear it," Kaia said.
"Kaia! Don't be so arrogant and look down on everyone! I'm telling you..." Johnny's words were cut off by Kaia.
"Don't waste your breath. You'd better go back and tell Lincoln and the others to stop plotting against me. Otherwise, I won't mind taking what they said in the livestream and playing it online. And your words just now? I had someone record them, too. I'll post it all online so everyone can see your shameless faces." Kaia said.
Johnny sharply turned to look where Kaia pointed. Sure enough, he saw Penny waving her phone at them.
Not only that, Penny flashed a wide, toothy grin and gave Kaia a thumbs-up.
'So cunning! So manipulative!' Johnny thought.
Johnny wanted to say more, but his wife tugged his arm. "Forget it, let it go. Don't say anymore. We should go back and discuss another strategy with them. Stalemating like this won't work."
Johnny saw the sense in it.
He looked at Kaia, barely suppressing the fury about to erupt from his chest. "Since you clearly don't welcome us, we'll take our leave."
Kaia watched their retreating backs and gave a little dismissive snort.
'Pathetic. They thought they could challenge me with that weak attempt? Out of their league,' Kaia scoffed inwardly.
Penny, who had been watching from afar, saw Johnny and his wife leave and hurried over. "With this video, I believe they definitely won't bother you again.
"Seriously, just now I saw them so angry their faces were red and necks thick. Kaia, if you claim second place in sharp tongues, absolutely no one would claim first."
Kaia shrugged helplessly. "You think I want to? If they didn't come looking for trouble, I wouldn't waste my breath arguing with them."
"Exactly! People who seek trouble deserve to be taught a lesson!" Penny went over and linked arms with Kaia. "A new barbecue place opened near the university, and it's really good. Want to go together later?"
Kaia nodded. "Sure."
The next morning, at the Moreno estate.
Kaia finished her breakfast and was about to head out.
Tobias instinctively stood up and followed her. "Where are you going? I'll come with you."
"There's something at the research institute I need to handle. I'll be back soon, no need for you to come," Kaia replied.
Hearing she would be back quickly, Tobias dropped the idea of accompanying her. "Alright, be careful on the road."
"Yeah," Kaia replied.
Without even glancing back, Kaia tossed a casual wave over her shoulder and disappeared out the door.
