Tobias had just sat on the sofa, planning to work on some documents on his laptop, when his phone on the table vibrated.
Picking it up, he saw a message from Grace, whom he hadn't seen in a long time. [Tobias, I'm back in the country. It's been way too long since we last saw each other. Want to catch up?]
Looking at the message, Tobias searched his memories of Grace.
He remembered they got along quite well as children, but after he studied abroad, they lost touch. It had been seven or eight years since they last met.
If it were before, he might have agreed to meet her based on their past friendship. But now that he was with Kaia, if Kaia saw them meeting alone, it would inevitably cause suspicion and misunderstanding.
Although he had never had those kinds of feelings or interest in Grace, he needed to have the awareness of a soon-to-be married man and not do anything that would let Kaia down.
Thinking this, Tobias typed a few words into the message box: [Sorry, I'm tied up—can't make it.]
Before he could send it, another message came from Grace. [Back when we were studying abroad, you left in a hurry and forgot some important personal items. I remember you cared quite a bit about these things back then, so I kept them for you. Now that I'm back, I brought them along to return to you.]
She attached a photo to the chat.
The bag held the trophies Tobias had won in overseas competitions, a few basketball club medals, and a black notebook.
These items held memories of his time studying abroad with friends.
Although he initially had no intention of meeting Grace, since she had brought these things back, he should go retrieve them.
After all, these were medals of honor earned fighting alongside his friends; they held significant sentimental value.
Tobias quickly deleted the words in the message box and typed anew: [Okay. Where are you? Send me your location.]
[Window seat at Blue Baron Restaurant.]
[Got it.]
Tobias snapped his laptop shut, snatched up his jacket, and was out the door in no time.
Seeing him leave, Jameson and Judith quickly emerged from a corner.
"The fish took the bait," Judith said.
"Step one of the plan succeeded. For step two, we need to figure out how to notify Kaia without it being traced back to us," Jameson added thoughtfully.
"Isn't that simple?" Judith instantly had an idea.
Jameson asked, puzzled, "You thought of a way that fast?"
"Come back with me, I'll tell you on the way," Judith said with full confidence.
Back at home, Judith glanced toward the game room and deliberately raised her voice. "I heard that childhood friend Grace, the one who grew up with Tobias, is back. Tobias left in such a hurry, probably went to meet her, right?"
"Yeah, they've been close since they were kids. Their connection must be pretty strong," Jameson chimed in, playing along.
"I think so too. Otherwise, Tobias wouldn't have rushed out to meet her, and at a place with such an ambiguous atmosphere as Blue Baron Restaurant. Just thinking about it feels romantic," Judith added.
Jameson said, "No need to envy others, I'll take you there another day. But speaking of which, a couple of days ago, when I passed by Plum Grove, I saw that most of the plum blossoms had bloomed. Let's go take a look."
"Sounds good," Judith replied.
And with that, the two of them strolled off toward the backyard.
Griffin, who had heard every word from the game room, ran out with a grave expression, his brow tightly furrowed.
'Wait, Tobias is heading out to meet up with his childhood sweetheart? What about Kaia?' Griffin thought, anxiety swirling in his chest.
