Meeting Tobias's gaze and hearing his voice, a faint blush appeared on Kaia's cheeks.
'Dang, Tobias is really stepping up his flirting game. It's actually kinda making me blush,' Kaia thought.
But with this fake sweetheart still trying to stir things up, Kaia didn't show too much shyness. Instead, she pointed at Grace and said in a deeply wronged tone, "But... she just said I was malicious."
When Tobias looked at Grace, the tenderness he had shown Kaia instantly vanished, leaving only coldness. "Although we share some history, no matter who you are, I won't tolerate you insulting my fiancée.
"From now on, if you say anything inappropriate to my fiancée again, we don't need to meet anymore."
Grace's heart felt pierced, the pain so intense it was almost suffocating.
'I've been in love with Tobias longer than anyone... So why is he taking her side now?' Grace thought, jealousy clawing at her chest.
The contrast in his attitude was truly hurtful.
Kaia shook Tobias's arm, putting on an act and deliberately using a coquettish tone, "She's still a girl, don't be so harsh on her. Actually, she only said a few words about me; it's no big deal. As long as she apologizes to me, it's fine."
Tobias's heart rippled with excitement because this was the first time Kaia had acted coquettishly in front of him. Even if it was just an act, he had to admit, it made his heart flutter.
"Okay." Tobias gave Kaia an indulgent smile, his gaze at her so intense it seemed he wanted to take her right there and then.
'Honestly, I couldn't be blamed. How could anyone resist when she is being so charming?' he thought.
After a moment, forcibly suppressing the beast in his chest, his expression cooled drastically when he looked back at Grace. "Did you hear that? Apologize to my fiancée."
Grace was so angry that she could almost grind her teeth to dust.
But if she didn't apologize, she and Tobias might never have a chance to meet again.
Thinking this, Grace lowered her head, hiding the intense resentment in her eyes, and said in a low voice, "I'm sorry."
The apology sounded utterly insincere.
Tobias frowned slightly, his voice carrying a chill. "A bit louder."
Grace clenched her fists, restraining herself until the veins on her forehead bulged.
She moved her lips, holding her breath as she prepared to apologize to Kaia again, when she heard Kaia's voice beside her. "Forget it, she's already apologized to me. I'll be magnanimous and not hold it against her."
'Magnanimous? Seriously?' Grace's eyes practically bugged out. 'Did she forget she was the one forcing me to apologize? Now she has the nerve to call herself gracious!'
Ignoring Grace's glaring eyes, Kaia glanced at the steak and pasta on the table. "Were you two about to have a meal together? Perfect, I've been busy all day and haven't had a chance to eat yet. Let's all sit down and eat together."
Tobias's tone held a hint of reproach and heartache. "You... what am I going to do with you? Always forgetting to eat."
"I was just too busy and forgot, but now's as good a time as any," Kaia replied, pulling Tobias down into a chair with her and waving for Grace to take a seat too.
"Come on, Miss Adkins, take a seat. Don't stand on ceremony—you're our guest. If you just stand there, it's kinda awkward for us," Kaia said.
Grace gritted her teeth tightly, the calm facade she had maintained almost crumbling.
Fortunately, she quickly lowered her head, hiding the turbulent emotions in her eyes. "Okay."
Once the three of them were seated, the waiter started bringing out the dishes one by one.
Tobias leaned close to Kaia's ear and spoke softly in a voice only the two of them could hear.
