'Jealous, aren't you?' Kaia mused. 'Well then, let me crush that hope once and for all.'
"Sure, I'll give it a taste," Kaia replied.
Kaia picked up the piece of fish from Tobias's fork and popped it into her mouth. "It really is delicious."
Hearing her approve, Tobias couldn't help grinning from ear to ear.
Tobias couldn't stop grinning as he kept on picking out dish after dish for Kaia, dropping them into her bowl without missing a beat. "These are good too, try them."
Kaia ate with effortless grace, while Tobias just sat there, gazing at her with pure adoration.
It was like they were in their own little bubble, with a vibe so strong that no one else could even hope to get in.
Grace was so angry she could grind her teeth to dust. She restrained herself again and again, but ultimately couldn't help standing up from her chair.
Hearing the noise, Tobias and Kaia both looked up towards Grace.
Kaia blinked, feigning concern. "Grace, what's the matter? Are you not feeling well or something?"
'Ugh, my eyes can't stand watching this crap, and my heart feels like it's being stabbed,' Grace seethed to herself, but on the outside, she managed to twist her lips into the fakest polite smile she could muster.
"It's fine, really. Just remembered something urgent, so I'll take my leave first. Please enjoy your meal," she said.
"Is that so?" Kaia nodded understandingly, then looked at Tobias. "How about you see Miss Adkins off?"
Grace's face instantly brightened with hope, her eyes full of desperate longing as she couldn't look away from Tobias.
Even though Kaia was the one who suggested it, and she didn't know what Kaia was really up to, if she could get a chance to be alone with Tobias because of it, she wouldn't overthink it.
After all, in her eyes, nothing was more important than Tobias, whom she had liked for so long.
Tobias frowned slightly, his thin lips parting. Just as he was about to speak, Grace's voice sounded first.
"Since Miss Bennett says so, I won't pretend to decline." As she spoke, her gaze shifted to Tobias. "Tobias, then I'll trouble you to see me off."
Tobias turned to look at Kaia, only to see her looking at Grace with a faint, mocking smile.
"You know what? After all, you are childhood sweethearts, plus you tried to take advantage of my fiancé earlier. What if you get lustful on the way and proactively take off your clothes to seduce him..." Kaia said, dripping sarcasm.
She deliberately drew out her words.
"Although I believe my fiancé is a gentleman, if you really tried that, it'd just be a shame for him to have to witness it," Kaia finished.
Grace was so mad she could practically explode.
She had sensed earlier that Kaia wasn't that kind-hearted. Now, hearing what she said, she realized Kaia had deliberately given her hope only to humiliate her.
"Miss Bennett, you totally misunderstood me! If you don't trust what I'm saying, I swear..." Grace blurted out.
Kaia jumped in before she could finish. "Okay, swear then! Swear that if you have even the slightest thought about my fiancé, you will be covered in festering sores, incurable by any medicine."
Grace's eyes almost bulged out of their sockets. If looks could kill, Kaia would have been sliced into a thousand pieces by now.
"I'll just go then. Tobias, let's meet another time," Grace forced out, fighting the nearly overwhelming urge to march over and slap Kaia right across the face. She turned around and left with a livid face.
Kaia glanced in the direction Grace left and couldn't help but teasingly say, "Your childhood sweetheart really can't take a joke."
Tobias then placed another piece of deboned fish in Kaia's bowl. "Don't mind her. Let's enjoy our meal."
Kaia hummed in agreement.
After finishing the meal and returning to the Moreno residence, Kaia took a shower, lay down on the bed, ready to enjoy a good night's sleep.
The sudden sound of knocking echoed from outside the door.
Kaia could guess who it was with her toes. She leisurely called out towards the door, "Come in."
The door opened, and the person who entered was none other than Tobias. "Kaia, I came to make amends to you."
