Delilah was equally furious, shooting Grace looks of utter disappointment. She wanted to say something, but with outsiders present, she forced the words back, letting out a heavy, despairing sigh instead.
Seeing that everything had been exposed, Grace knew there was no use trying to deny it any further, so she simply came clean. "Yeah, I did it. I just can't stand Kaia."
As she spoke, she stared directly at Tobias and suddenly burst out laughing.
But as she kept laughing, tears started to fall from the corners of her eyes.
She looked downright unhinged, laughing and crying all at once.
Ezekiel felt utterly embarrassed, brows tightly knit, ready to shut Grace down right then and there.
But before he could speak, Grace's voice rang out again.
"Tobias, we've known each other for years! We studied abroad together, helped each other through tough times! You knew how I felt about you! I waited, thinking that if I just hung on long enough, you'd finally see me. And then what? You... you fell for someone else."
Her voice was thick with resentment and bitter frustration. "I just don't get it! What's so great about Kaia? What is she compared to everything we shared? She called me the homewrecker? I say she's the one who stole you!"
That was why she had orchestrated this whole thing—to teach Kaia a lesson, to show Kaia who was really in charge, and make Kaia back off.
But what Grace never saw coming was how quickly it all unraveled.
And Tobias actually showed up himself, just to grill her over Kaia.
It made Grace feel like all those years she'd hung on to her feelings had been nothing but a bad joke.
Having poured her heart out, Grace expected to see at least a flicker of sympathy or pity in Tobias's eyes.
Instead, he barely glanced at her before turning his attention to Ezekiel. "Mr. Adkins, does she speak for the entire Adkins family? She has slandered my woman, and now she's screaming insults. Is this your family's official stance, declaring a complete break with my family?"
'Whoa, has this really blown up to the point where we're about to go to war with the Moreno family?' Ezekiel thought.
It finally hit him just how much Kaia meant to Tobias. He quickly spoke up, "Tobias, Grace's just being childish. Please don't take it to heart. She's usually pretty well-behaved, but for some reason, she just lost her head this time.
"As her father, I feel really ashamed that I couldn't keep her in line. And honestly, just because she's my daughter doesn't mean she speaks for the whole Adkins family. As long as I'm still around, I'm the one who calls the shots here."
Tobias didn't respond. His handsome face remained stern, his entire presence radiating an intimidating authority.
Ezekiel knew a few words wouldn't be enough to earn forgiveness for Grace or protect the family's interests.
After a moment of tense thought, his face darkening, he stood up from the sofa. Steeling himself, he swung his hand and slapped Grace hard across the face."You disgraceful girl! Apologize to Tobias now! Tell him you'll never do this again!"
