"You seriously don't even know who he is?" Luke sneered.
He chuckled mockingly before dropping the bomb about Mason's background. "His dad is the famous building materials tycoon, Theodore, and he is the heir of the Munoz family, Mason!"
Luke's introduction pleased Mason immensely. He lifted his chin, walked up to Tobias, and looked down his nose at him.
"Well? Hearing my father's name, are you scared now? Be smart. Hand the lady over to me, then kneel and kowtow three times before me. If you do that, I might let this slide," Mason taunted.
Tobias raised a long eyebrow in understanding. "So it's Teddy."
Mason's face turned red at the nickname. "My father is famous for his terrible temper! How dare you call him that? You're dead!"
As he spoke, he pulled out his phone from his pocket. "I'm calling my dad right now to tell him some fool dares to call him that. You're finished."
"No need for you to call. I'll call him myself." Tobias scrolled through his contacts, found Theodore's number, and dialed.
Mason laughed hysterically as if he'd heard the funniest joke in the world.
"You're calling my dad? Seriously, who the hell do you think you are? You think you can just call him?" Mason said.
He clutched his stomach, his whole body shaking with laughter."Oh, oh, I can't... you're really going to kill me with laughter."
Tobias gave Mason a sidelong glance, ignored him, and waited for the call to connect. He spoke calmly into the phone, "Your son is trying to steal my woman. Handle it."
Hearing Tobias speak so matter-of-factly, Mason laughed so hard he could barely catch his breath, even more exaggerated than before. "Oh man... you... You sound so convincing, I almost believed you. But sadly..."
Just as he said this, the phone in his hand started vibrating wildly.
Looking down, he saw it was his father, Theodore, calling him.
'Seriously, what are the odds my dad would be calling me right at this crazy moment?' Mason thought. 'Wait a second... did this guy actually just get hold of my dad?'
Mason looked suspiciously in Tobias's direction, scrutinizing him carefully.
He had attended many business events, big and small, Theodore.
If Tobias were really a big shot who could make Theodore bow down, Theodore would have specifically introduced him and warned him not to provoke him.
But racking his brains, he had no memory of Tobias at all.
'This dude's gotta be a total nobody. No way he's even in my dad's contacts, much less actually knows him,' Mason scoffed to himself.
Thinking this, Mason's face returned to normal, and he picked up Tobias's call, cool as ever.
"Dad..." Mason began.
He had barely uttered the word when Theodore's roaring voice erupted from the other end.
"You wretched boy! Can't go a day without causing trouble, can you? How dare you try to steal a woman from Mr. Moreno? Apologize to Mr. Moreno immediately, then get your ass back here and reflect on your actions," Theodore roared.
"Mr. Moreno?" Mason stammered, his eyes widened.
"Dad, wait... You mean he's the Mr. Moreno from the Moreno Group?" Mason blurted out, voice shaking.
"That's right, he's Tobias, the head of the Holt Group. Listen up, apologize to him now and make sure he forgives you, or don't even think about coming home." Theodore snapped.
Seeing how cold his dad was about it, Mason's face dropped in a heartbeat.
At this moment, he was shrouded in utter despair, completely at a loss for what to do.
Kaia watched the changing expressions on Mason's face and turned to Tobias curiously. "You actually know his father? You weren't bluffing?"
Tobias curled his lips and pulled Kaia closer. "For a small matter like this, would I need to bluff?"
Kaia couldn't help but sigh. "You're right. The head of the Moreno Group... your network is no joke."
The curve of Tobias's lips deepened, a warmth appearing in his eyes reserved only for Kaia.
"See how impressive your fiancé is now? As long as I'm here, no one can hurt you," Tobias said.
"Well... you've really got a lot going for you, but honestly, if you could talk less and stop being so cheeky all the time, you'd be pretty much perfect," Kaia said, stroking her chin as if she were judging a contest.
The smile in Tobias's eyes deepened. "Didn't I say it? These are all heartfelt truths spoken only to you. I could never change that."
"And it starts again." Kaia rolled her eyes dramatically.
'This guy can be serious when he wants to, but when he's childish, he's really something else,' Kaia thought.
Luke, watching Kaia and Tobias talking intimately while Mason stood there dumbfounded, went up and whispered in his ear, "Why are you just standing here? Hurry up and get Mr. Munoz to teach this arrogant guy a lesson! If you don't punish him severely, how will we ever hold our heads high in Pioneer again?"
Mason, terrified Tobias might overhear, reached out and smacked Luke hard on the back of the head. "Shut up! Stop talking nonsense!"
His outburst was so loud that Tobias and Kaia both turned to look at him.
Tobias's eyes darkened, his voice so cold it could freeze someone instantly. "What are you still standing there for? Didn't your father tell you what to do?"
Mason shivered. Clutching his phone, he slowly approached Tobias.
Standing before Tobias, he bowed deeply. "Mr. Moreno, I... I'm sorry. Please, be magnanimous and don't hold it against a petty person like me. I... I know I was wrong. N-next time, I... I would never dare do this again."
Tobias gave him a sidelong glance, his tone even colder. "Again?"
Mason immediately raised his hand in assurance. "No! Mr. Moreno, I... I guarantee, something like this will absolutely never happen again."
His body trembled violently, as if he might wet himself from fear at any moment.
Tobias observed Mason's state, his expression calm and unfluctuating. "Your behavior earlier frightened my fiancée. Take your men and apologize to her."
"Yes, yes..." Mason nodded and bowed, then quickly turned and shouted at his two lackeys, "Did you hear that? Hurry up and apologize to Mr. Moreno's fiancée!"
Luke and Charlie looked at each other, not daring to say anything else, and immediately apologized to Kaia.
"We're sorry. We were blind; we offended you. Please don't hold it against us."
"Miss, we're sorry, really, truly sorry. Please, give us one more chance to show we can do better."
He chuckled mockingly before dropping the bomb about Mason's background. "His dad is the famous building materials tycoon, Theodore, and he is the heir of the Munoz family, Mason!"
