Tobias turned his head and winked mysteriously at her. "You'll know later. It's almost ready. Get up and put on a long-sleeved jacket, and then we can go."
Kaia glanced at the black backpack in front of Tobias and couldn't help but mutter, "Where are we going that requires a long-sleeved jacket?"
No matter how clever she was, Tobias always had a way of surprising her, and right now, she genuinely couldn't figure out what he had planned.
"It gets cold at night. If you don't put on a long-sleeved jacket, you'll end up sick," Tobias said as he rummaged through his suitcase and pulled out a light beige jacket for Kaia.
"This one's perfect. It matches your outfit perfectly," he said.
Kaia didn't say anything else, just slipped on the jacket while sneaking a glance at Tobias's bare arms.
"Aren't you going to wear a jacket? Aren't you worried about catching a cold?" she asked.
"I'm a man. Masculine, robust. Don't need an umbrella or a jacket." Tobias looked at Kaia with a smiling gaze.
Kaia just rolled her eyes, a faint smile tugging at her lips. "Suit yourself."
Tobias slung his backpack over his shoulder, grabbed the bag, and glanced back at Kaia.
"All set? Time to roll," he called out.
"Let me just tie my hair and wash my face. Wait a moment." Kaia went in and came out quickly. "Let's go."
They had walked some distance when Tobias suddenly stopped. "Wait, I think I forgot something important."
Kaia turned to look at him. "What thing?"
"A secret." As he said this, he placed the bag he was carrying on the ground. "Kaia, wait here for me. I'll go get it and be right back."
"Okay." Kaia agreed and stood waiting for him.
Tobias left quickly. She looked at the bag on the ground. Although curious, she didn't open it.
Since Tobias said it was a surprise, she would see it eventually. And if she opened it now, after all his preparation, it would ruin the point.
Kaia looked away from the bag and lowered her head to play on her phone. She waited for a long time, but Tobias still didn't return.
She checked the time and realized he'd been gone for more than ten minutes.
The hotel wasn't far from where she stood, so logically, Tobias shouldn't be gone this long. 'Did something happen to him?' Kaia wondered.
Kaia frowned with worry, tucked her phone away, and started walking back toward the hotel.
But when she reached the entrance, Tobias was deep in conversation with a bunch of girls.
The guy who usually kept everyone at arm's length was suddenly getting along as if they'd known each other forever, even flashing them a light smile.
His expression looked as friendly as could be.
'Seriously?' Kaia's mind whirled. 'Tobias, acting so chummy with girls... That's just not him at all.'
After a moment of silence, she took out her phone and called Tobias. "You've been gone so long. Aren't you back yet?"
Tobias glanced at these young women in front of him and massaged his temples in frustration.
These young women were the daughters of business partners he worked closely with. He usually had a good relationship with their fathers. He never expected to run into them here. When they greeted him, he couldn't just brush them off, so he had to stop and chat.
But now Kaia was calling. If he bluntly told her he was delayed because he was chatting with other women, she would definitely get angry.
Thinking he'd rather avoid drama, Tobias chose not to tell Kaia the truth and just threw out an excuse. "I ran into a bit of a dispute in the parking lot. It'll be handled soon. Wait for me a little longer. I'll be right there."
