Countless fireflies emerged from the forest covering the mountains, swirling in the air above, creating a spectacle even more magnificent than the starry sky, so beautiful that Kaia couldn't look away.
These fireflies had flown out from the bag Tobias was holding.
Kaia felt both shocked and deeply moved, momentarily at a loss for words to express her feelings. "When did you prepare these fireflies?"
"Well, if I was going to surprise you, I had to start planning way ahead," Tobias replied.
With that, Tobias pulled out another bag, flashing it with a smug grin. "Still not enough for you? Look, I've got a whole extra bag right here. And guess what? I caught every single firefly myself, just for you. So tell me, how cool is your man?"
Kaia burst out laughing, totally amused by Tobias's deliberate showing off.
"You just can't shake off that childish streak, can you?" she teased.
'Seriously, catching fireflies? He acts like he's a little kid who never grew up,' Kaia thought.
He had none of the imposing, commanding presence he displayed in front of others.
"What can I do?" Tobias let out a dramatic sigh, stepping closer and pulling Kaia into his arms. "When I see you, I can't help but want to do things that make you happy. Probably all my childishness is spent on you."
"Childish, and full of sweet talk." Despite her words, the smile didn't leave Kaia's face. "But you put a lot of thought into all these. I really like them."
"I'm glad you like them." Tobias took Kaia's hand and led her towards the tent. "Let's go inside the tent and experience the feeling of lying down while enjoying the night view."
Thinking about how Tobias had been busy every moment since they arrived at Pioneer Hot Springs, never once really resting, Kaia felt her heart ache for him.
"Yeah, you've been running around all day. You really deserve a break," she said.
Hearing her say this filled Tobias with indescribable joy. "Kaia, are you actually feeling sorry for me?"
Kaia didn't respond. She tugged at his arm, turned her face away unnaturally, a blush appearing on her cheeks. "Enough with the nonsense. Are we lying down or not?"
Seeing the tips of the girl's ears turn red, Tobias's lips curved into a pleased smile. "Of course we are. You go in first."
"Alright," Kaia murmured, ducking her head and slipping into the tent.
Tobias followed her in, flopping down right by her side.
Gazing at the vast, endless night sky, he couldn't help but reach out, gently take Kaia's hand, and interlace their fingers. "Kaia, are you happy today?"
"Happy." Kaia responded, then felt that wasn't enough, so she added, "Very happy."
After all, Tobias had spent so much effort and time planning this surprise—just saying "happy" felt way too casual.
"I'm really happy too," Tobias said, gently resting his forehead against Kaia's.
"Every single day I spend with you, I'm really, really happy," he added.
Kaia wasn't one to say such sentimental things, but the fact that she didn't push him away or resist was enough to show she felt the same way he did.
Realizing this, Tobias grew bolder, leaned over, and gently kissed Kaia's cheek. "Kaia, it's so wonderful to have you."
