"Kaia, you have my word. Since you gave me this, I'll treasure it—there's no way I'd ever let it go," Tobias said, his expression overflowing with warmth as he gazed at the ring glinting on his finger. "Honestly, this is the most surprising and heartwarming gift anyone has ever given me."
As he spoke, he slowly lifted his head, his eyes meeting Kaia's with all the tenderness in the world.
"Kaia, thank you," he said softly, his voice filled with genuine warmth.
Kaia's cheeks grew hot under Tobias's gaze, an embarrassed blush blooming across her face. That soft, pink hue made her even more irresistibly alluring.
Seeing the girl he loved looking so bashful, Tobias's eyes went dreamy. He slowly closed the distance between them, cupping her face in his hands, their breaths mingling as the space between them disappeared.
"Kaia, can I kiss you?" he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper.
Swept up in the masculine air surrounding him, Kaia's blush flared even brighter, her cheeks tinged with a deeper red.
"If you want to kiss me, just do it. What's with all the questions? You never used to be so polite with me," she quipped, her tone playfully mocking.
Tobias was overwhelmed with joy, and without another moment's hesitation, he leaned in and went straight for her lips.
But before he could reach her, Kaia suddenly yanked him close by the collar, flipping the script—her lips caught his in a bold, blazing rush.
Shock flashed in Tobias's eyes, but he recovered instantly, answering her move with an even fiercer passion.
Every clash of their lips was less a simple kiss and more an all-out duel, their souls fiercely tangled together in a raw, electric resonance.
After more than ten minutes, when they finally came up for air, Tobias still wasn't satisfied—he just wanted more.
"Kaia, my Kaia… you're almost too good to be true," he breathed, utterly smitten.
Kaia shook off the haze in no time, her gaze sharpening with cool composure.
"Seriously, can you stop being so mushy every time? You're giving me the chills," she muttered, giving him an exasperated look.
Tobias reached out, his hand settling gently on Kaia's waist.
"Didn't I say this, like, a million times? When I'm with you, it's impossible for me to hold back," he admitted, his voice thick with want.
Kaia just rolled her eyes, shoved him off, and stood up.
"Come on, it's late. Let's pack our things and head home," she said, totally practical.
"No hurry, Devin's coming to pick us up. We can take our sweet time—he'll get here right as we're ready," Tobias said with a grin, and headed into the tent to start packing.
While packing up, Kaia noticed Tobias kept reaching back to scratch his back.
Kaia's brows furrowed softly as she walked over and lifted up the back of his shirt, only to find his skin dotted with red bumps—he must've been eaten alive by mosquitoes.
Thinking back, they'd had mosquito coils burning in the tent last night, so all those bites had to be from when they went out catching fireflies the day before.
"Looks like the mosquitoes got you good. Want me to put something on it?" Kaia said, eyeing Tobias's back.
Since the hot springs were tucked in the mountains—and swarming with bugs—Kaia had tossed one of her homemade anti-itch creams into her bag before the trip. Good thing, because now it was actually useful.
Tobias was itching so badly he couldn't stand it anymore. He let out a sigh and nodded, thinking, 'Anything to stop the itch.'
"Sure," he said.
He stripped off his top and sprawled out in the tent.
Kaia pulled out the ointment from her pocket and began gently smoothing it over his back.
Her fingers were so soft, and every touch sent shivers down his spine.
Honestly, it made him want to just throw caution to the wind and do something reckless.
Kaia made sure to cover every spot on his back, double-checking she hadn't missed a single bite. Once she was satisfied, she said, "Alright, you can get up now."
"Okay," Tobias replied, getting up from the tent—and then, without missing a beat, started taking off his pants.
Kaia's eyes went wide, and she quickly covered her eyes with both hands.
