"That's enough walking around for me. I'm wiped out after last night—just want to go back and rest," Kaia said, rubbing her temples and letting out a lazy yawn.
"Alright, back it is, since that's what you want," Tobias said. Even though she could tell he was a little let down. Still, he grabbed Kaia's hand right away and started leading her to the car.
Once they were in the car, Tobias wrapped his arm around Kaia's shoulders and said softly, "Kaia, you said you were tired, right? Just lean on me and get some rest. I'll wake you up when we get there."
Kaia didn't bother being polite. She just snuggled up against him, found a comfy spot, and slowly closed her eyes.
"It's a lot to ask, thanks," she murmured.
"It's nothing, really." Tobias leaned closer to her ear, his voice gentle. "If it's for you, nothing ever feels difficult."
Kaia let out a soft hum of amusement, not even bothering to open her eyes, just settling in comfortably against Tobias's shoulder.
Tobias gave her shoulder a gentle pat, his voice barely above a whisper.
"You go ahead and sleep. I'll keep quiet," he said softly.
"Okay," Kaia murmured in response. As the car swayed gently, she drifted off into a light sleep.
A few minutes later, seeing Kaia sound asleep, Tobias dropped his voice and called up to Devin at the wheel, "Slow down and stick to the smoothest roads you can, alright?"
"Sure thing." Devin nodded, immediately slowing down.
The Maybach cruised so smoothly that they would barely notice a single bump.
Kaia kept on sleeping, not even twitching as the car rolled on.
By the time noon rolled around, they were back in Morganburg.
Kaia was still feeling groggy, so she just crashed in her room and went right back to sleep.
Tobias holed up in his study to deal with the mountain of paperwork that had stacked up over the past two days.
As Tobias worked through the files, the ring Kaia had gifted him kept glinting and moving whenever his fingers shifted—it was hard to miss, its presence lingering with every movement.
Knowing he'd never get through his paperwork if he kept daydreaming, Tobias finally set the documents aside, replaying the moment Kaia slipped the ring onto his finger in his mind. He couldn't stop smiling, and his eyes shimmered with happiness.
This wasn't just any ring. It was made just for him by Kaia herself. Each time he looked at it, he found himself loving it even more.
Devin walked in carrying a stack of files and, unable to hide his curiosity, asked, "Mr. Moreno, what's got you looking so happy?"
Tobias grinned from ear to ear, deliberately putting his ring finger right in Devin's face to show off the ring.
"What do you think of this ring?" he said.
Devin glanced up and gave it a closer look. "That's pretty nice. Got a unique design to it."
Tobias's grin stretched even wider as he subtly waved his ring finger in front of Devin, showing off without being obvious.
"Aren't you even curious who gave me this ring?" Tobias asked, clearly having fun with it.
Watching Tobias's not-so-subtle act and the way he looked absolutely smitten, Devin already had a pretty good idea who the ring was from.
But seeing Tobias grinning so much, Devin didn't want to kill his vibe, so he just played along, asking, "So who gave it to you?"
Tobias lifted his chin, his eyes practically gleaming with pride.
"Who else? Kaia," he replied with a grin.
Sure enough, just like Devin suspected, the ring really was from Kaia.
