"Brainwashed? Get real. Kaia's the real deal—she's got guts and actual talent. That's why I respect her. And trust me, it's not just me. Sooner or later, you two will have to admit it," Griffin replied, frustrated by how clueless his parents were. He just wanted them to wake up already.
Judith's face turned so dark that she looked ready to burst. "Respect her? Are you kidding right now? Did you forget how she threw you out of Wustriland and banned you from going back for ten whole years?
"When have you ever suffered like that before? Everything you went through was thanks to her! And you're still sticking up for her? You've lost it, Griffin. Do you even know whose side you're on?"
"I know exactly what I'm doing. You two are the ones who don't have a clue," Griffin snapped. He was dying to tell them the truth about Kaia and finally wake them up, but since Kaia wouldn't let him spill, all he could do was grit his teeth and keep it to himself.
Judith didn't say a word—she just stared hard at Griffin for what felt like forever. Seeing him so determined to stand by Kaia, the fury about to explode in her chest twisted into sheer heartbreak. Her eyes grew red and watery, tears threatening to spill.
"Griffin, you used to be so obedient, so thoughtful to your mom and dad. Now look at you! Are you really still my Griffin?" Judith's voice shook, nearly cracking with disappointment.
Just thinking about it made Kaia's infuriating face pop into Judith's head, and the hate in her eyes flared up like wildfire.
"Kaia! Damn you! This is all that witch's fault. If it weren't for her, my son wouldn't be like this—she twisted your mind so bad you just keep siding with her. Oh, my poor boy! Why is fate so cruel to us? Is there any way left to save you, Griffin?" Judith wailed, nearly sobbing.
Suddenly, Judith clenched her fists, her face twisted with malice. "I swear, from this day forward, Kaia and I are mortal enemies. I won't rest until I drive her out of the Moreno family for good."
Jameson's face was grim as he spoke up. "Honey, I'm with you all the way on this. Griffin is our only son, and Kaia has ruined him. We won't let her off the hook for this."
Seeing that his parents still wouldn't give up on their crazy plan to mess with Kaia, Griffin practically stomped his feet in frustration.
"Dad, Mom, come on, I'm totally fine! What nonsense are you spouting?" Griffin burst out, unable to hide his irritation.
"Griffin, save your breath. We decided ages ago—Kaia is getting booted out of the Moreno family, and thrown out of Wustriland in disgrace. No matter what you say, we're not changing our minds," Judith said coldly, leaving zero room for negotiation.
Jameson backed her up without hesitation. "Griffin, your mom's absolutely right. Don't waste another word on this. Ever since Kaia drove you crazy, we swore she was our enemy. There's no way we could ever accept someone that ruthless as family. She's out—end of story."
Griffin stared at his parents, their hardheaded attitude making his fists clench so tight his knuckles turned white. He took a shaky breath, tried to hold it back, but finally snapped—the secret he'd been holding onto for ages exploded out.
"You keep saying you want Kaia out of the Moreno family, kicked out of Wustriland—but do you even know who she actually is? I... I'm telling you right now. She's Dr. Bennett, Wustriland's science legend!" Griffin blurted, unable to hold it back another second.
