The silence was so thick that they could hear a pin drop.
Judith and Jameson were rooted to the spot, faces pale with shock, like they'd been utterly stunned.
Griffin wasn't surprised by his parents' reaction. When he first found out Kaia was Dr. Bennett, he'd been just as shocked and couldn't believe it either.
But once the shock wore off, all that was left in his heart was deep respect and admiration.
He was sure that once his parents heard the news, their attitude toward Kaia would do a complete 180.
Just as Griffin was lost in thought, Judith anxiously stepped up and reached out, pressing her hand to his forehead.
"What kind of nonsense are you spouting now? Are you feeling feverish or something?" Judith said, worry all over her face.
Griffin was at a loss. After everything he'd said, his parents still weren't buying it. He couldn't help but let out an exasperated sigh, stepping back to avoid his mom's hand.
"Mom, seriously, I'm not sick. Everything I said is true. Kaia really is Dr. Bennett!" Griffin insisted.
"You really are out of it, Griffin. Your brain's totally scrambled," Judith said, shaking her head, eyes full of worry.
Judith turned to Jameson, her voice anxious. "You see what I mean? Griffin's getting worse by the minute. Should we call a doctor or something? He's all we've got—if he crashes, our whole family's doomed."
Jameson let out a long sigh. "Yeah, I can tell. Kaia's got him so wound up, it's getting out of hand. We'd better get him checked out pronto, or this is just gonna get messier."
Griffin watched his parents treat him like air, carrying on their conversation as if he didn't exist. He was so frantic, it felt like he might jump out of his skin.
"Mom, Dad, I swear every single word is true! Not one lie. If you don't trust me, just ask Grandpa—he knows all about it. Go talk to him and you'll get the truth, I promise!" he said.
But even with Griffin practically yelling, Judith and Jameson just kept whispering to each other, completely ignoring him like he was invisible.
Griffin was so mad, he nearly exploded. He marched straight toward the main hall with big, desperate strides.
"No way! I've gotta get in there and tell Kaia before it's too late. She needs to be on guard around you two, or one day she might actually get screwed over by accident," Griffin blurted out.
Judith and Jameson exchanged glances, then quickly stepped forward to block Griffin's way.
"Griffin, we've made up our minds about this ages ago. You can't storm in and screw everything up!" Judith snapped, clamping down on his arm and refusing to let go. She spun around and yelled to the nearby guards, "Guards! Get over here, hurry! Take him away!"
The two bodyguards hurried over at Judith's command, each clamping down on Griffin's shoulders, holding him firmly in place.
Griffin thrashed desperately, his face flushed from anger and panic, fighting against their grip with everything he had.
"Let me go! Let me go!" Griffin shouted at the top of his lungs, his voice hoarse with rage.
Judith pressed her fingers to her temples, clearly exasperated, and waved the bodyguards over.
"Get him back to the car. We're heading to the hospital right now," she ordered.
"No way! I have to go now. I'm not sick, so what's the point of dragging me to a hospital?" Griffin yelled, his face and neck turning bright red with anger as he fought like mad in the iron grip of the two bodyguards—but no matter how hard he struggled, he couldn't shake them off.
"Dad, Mom, do you even care that I'm your own flesh and blood anymore? You seriously don't believe a word I say, and now you're just letting others manhandle me like I'm some stranger! Make them let go of me, now!" Griffin cried out, his voice raw with frustration.
Judith hated having to treat her precious son this way, but with Griffin acting so irrational and stubborn—practically worshipping Kaia over his own family—they couldn't risk him messing up their plans. In the end, they really had no other choice.
"Griffin, we're only doing this because we care about you! You're not well, and we can't let things drag out any longer. Just remember, your parents would never hurt you—we're on your side, alright? So please, just work with us for once," Judith said anxiously.
