"How many times do I have to tell you? I'm not crazy. I'm fine! Seriously, there's nothing wrong with me!" Griffin thought, feeling like he was about to totally lose it.
Jameson, standing close by, seized the moment while Griffin was distracted and smoothly lifted his phone right out of his pocket.
"Griffin, once we're at the hospital, just listen to the doctors and follow their instructions. Trust me, kiddo, if you work with them, you'll be yourself again soon," Jameson reassured him, trying to sound both gentle and firm.
At first, Griffin thought his parents were just trying to scare him about the whole hospital thing. He guessed they'd keep him locked away for a couple of days and then set him free.
But the moment his dad swiped his phone, reality sank in. Griffin's panic shot through the roof, and he blurted out, "Okay, I'll do whatever you want! I won't rat you out or anything, just please, don't send me to the hospital!"
'I'm perfectly normal; there's nothing wrong with me!' Griffin thought, frustration rising.
'Who knows what those doctors might actually do? What if they really mess with my head and turn me into a full-blown lunatic?' he worried, panic sneaking in.
'Absolutely not, I can't let them take me,' Griffin steeled himself.
Judith just shook her head, obviously not believing a word Griffin said.
"Griffin, listen to your mom, Okay? Come on, just let them check you out at the hospital. It won't hurt, I promise," Judith coaxed.
Jameson, looking helpless, added, "Yeah, listen to your mom, kid. Doesn't matter what it is, just let them do the tests. Who knows, maybe after a trip to the hospital you'll be back to normal, right?"
Griffin rolled his eyes at the ceiling, utterly defeated. Trying to talk sense into his parents was pointless. It was like they were speaking totally different languages.
At this point, the only way to escape this mess was to just go along with whatever they wanted, at least for now.
"Alright, I get it. You guys don't trust me. Fine! I swear to the heavens, if I ever spill a single word of what you said, you can just forget you ever had a son. Seriously, I'll be out of your lives for good," Griffin pleaded, sounding completely desperate.
"You little punk!" Jameson snapped, his beard practically bristling with rage as he gave Griffin a hard smack on the back of the head.
"Just listen to yourself! Does any of that even make sense?" Jameson barked, his voice sharp with frustration.
Even though he'd just chewed Griffin out, Jameson couldn't help but soften up a little. He let out a long sigh and told the bodyguards to back off.
"Let him go," Jameson ordered, trying to sound strict but clearly relenting.
"Yes, sir," the bodyguards replied in perfect sync, backing away and standing off to the side.
Jameson walked over to Griffin, still doubtful. "Griffin, you're really not going to tell anyone? You're not just pulling our leg, are you?"
Griffin nodded firmly. "Yeah, I promise—stuff like this is really not worth talking about."
"That's amazing, son! You finally snapped out of it—you get why we've been so tough on you," Judith said, practically glowing with joy. Seeing Griffin finally thinking straight and choosing their side made her proud and relieved.
Jameson was visibly pleased too. "As long as you've figured things out, that's all your mother and I ever wanted. Just remember, everything we've done, it's all been for your sake."
As they kept talking, Judith and Jameson suddenly saw Griffin get this weird look on his face.
He was staring toward the living room, totally starstruck, pride practically radiating off him, like he was basking in someone else's glory.
"I'm not spilling anything because, with Kaia's smarts, any girl trying to make waves around Tobias totally flatlines the second she shows up. Seriously, Grace is pretty bold, but compared to Kaia, she's a total lightweight—she's not even worth worrying about.
"The only reason Kaia doesn't squash her like a bug is because she can't be bothered, but if she wanted to, it would be as easy as crushing an ant!" Griffin said, practically bursting with pride.
Judith and Jameson exchanged a long, weary sigh.
They'd seriously thought Griffin was finally snapping out of it, but now it seemed like he was even crazier than before.
Kaia had really twisted him up—he was totally under her spell.
At this rate, they didn't know if their precious son would ever get back to normal.
