"Even though she's into you," Kaia said, "as your best friend, I have to give you a heads up. Someone as vindictive as her—even if she likes you now, if she can't get what she wants, she could easily flip her feelings and turn love into hatred.
"I wouldn't put it past her to do something crazy. For your own good, you really ought to keep your distance."
Beatrice had been desperately trying to hide how pissed she was at Kaia, putting on her sweetest act in front of Larry. But after hearing Kaia's rubbish, she totally lost it and exploded at Kaia.
"Kaia! What kind of crap are you even talking about? Would you just shut your mouth for once?" Beatrice shouted.
Kaia glanced at Beatrice, whose angry face looked downright scary, and clicked her tongue in mock annoyance.
"You see that? She's a real wildcat. Somebody as soft-hearted as you wouldn't stand a chance. So for real, you better stay far, far away," Kaia said.
Larry nodded with absolute trust in Kaia. "Alright, I'll listen to you."
"That's more like it," Kaia said, shooting Larry an approving look with a smug little smile. "Come on, let's head to class together."
"Okay, let's go," Larry replied, falling into step beside Kaia as they walked off together.
Beatrice watched their backs as they left, her eyes filled with pure hatred. Her fists were clenched so tight her nails nearly dug into her palms. She wanted nothing more than to storm over and rip Kaia apart right then and there.
The two girls beside her caught sight of Beatrice's stormy expression and instantly jumped in, trash-talking right along with her.
"Kaia's really gone too far this time! How could she say that about you in front of Larry? Great, now she's ruined your reputation with him," one of them griped.
"She's just showing off because she thinks she has Larry in her pocket. Seriously, she never has a good word for anyone. I can't stand her," the other sneered.
With their words fueling her rage, Beatrice glared holes into Kaia's retreating silhouette, ice-cold anger practically rolling off her in waves.
"Kaia, just you wait. I swear, I'll make you pay for this if it's the last thing I do!" Beatrice spat under her breath.
At 2:30 PM, it was time for the school's senior staff meeting.
Kaia sat in the conference room, quickly scanned the room to make sure everyone was there, then jumped straight into the main topic.
"So, how's the school exhibition coming along—the one I told you to get ready?" Kaia asked.
The professor in the third seat from the left stood up and said, "The exhibition is underway, and everything's running smoothly."
Kaia reached out. "Can I take a look at the documents?"
"Yes, Ms. Bennett," the professor replied, quickly bringing the papers over and setting them in front of Kaia.
Kaia opened up the file and started reading, looking totally calm and collected as she scanned the pages.
She kept her focus sharp, but her hands moved so fast she was flipping through those papers at lightning speed.
Most people wouldn't have finished a single line before she was already flipping to the next page.
Around the table, the senior staff and professors exchanged confused looks, dumbfounded by how fast she was moving.
One of the professors couldn't help but whisper, "Is Ms. Bennett really able to read everything that fast? Or is she just skimming to look busy?"
Another professor replied quietly, "I don't think so. I'm sure Ms. Bennett has her own way of going through the material. Let's not waste time speculating."
