"May I know who's the big shot celebrating my birthday?" Andrea asked, practically glowing with excitement.
"Sorry, but the Miss Bennett I mentioned isn't you," Devin replied, his face completely expressionless.
"What?" Andrea was caught in an awkward moment, her hand still outstretched, standing completely still.
Devin stepped right past her and stopped in front of Kaia. "Miss Bennett, my boss wishes you happy birthday. May every year be as wonderful as today."
"Thank your boss for me." Kaia accepted the roses, deliberately glancing sideways at Andrea.
Andrea's face burned with shame as she stiffly pulled her hand back.
Penny burst out laughing.
Andrea wished she could just dig a hole and bury herself right then and there.
Ruth walked up to Kaia, her brows furrowed as she stared at the bouquet of roses in Kaia's hands. "So, who sent these?"
Everyone was curious about who Kaia had connected with to warrant such a grand display.
It was much more impressive than anything the Ross family could pull off.
Under the crowd's expectant gaze, Kaia answered truthfully, "The CEO of Moreno Group."
Some people rolled their eyes, and others started making sarcastic comments under their breath.
Ruth's face went dark, thinking, 'This girl was at it again, making up stories. She just can't go a day without lying.'
Kaia had already anticipated Ruth's reaction. Her gaze was calm, and she was totally unbothered.
Andrea walked up to Kaia, putting on her most concerned act. "Seriously, Kaia, just tell us the truth. Who really sent it? You haven't been staying at home lately. What if you run into some creep or get tricked into doing something you shouldn't? We're really worried about you."
Kaia's eyes went cold. 'There she goes again, stirring the pot and trying to make everyone think I'm some sugar baby. Clearly, the last lesson wasn't enough,' she thought.
"So, you sent someone to follow me?" Kaia asked, her voice icy.
A wave of panic hit Andrea. She regretted speaking carelessly, especially with Kaia still holding her secret.
Kaia continued, "Andrea, I didn't want to argue with you, but you keep tarnishing my name in public. Do you really think I'm a pushover?"
Kaia was genuinely pissed. She looked at Andrea, then at Louis.
"You two—childhood sweethearts, so pure and innocent. But the truth is, you slept with each other long ago." Kaia said, her voice laced with sarcasm.
Andrea's face went pale. "Kaia, what nonsense are you talking about? How could you accuse me of something like that? I would never do that!"
Ruth glared at Kaia and said sternly, "Kaia, stop making things up and dragging Andrea's name through the mud!"
Kaia shot Ruth a frosty look. "But when she was smearing me just now, you didn't say a word. Funny how that works."
"She was just worried about you! You're overthinking it," Ruth retorted.
Kaia let out a cold laugh, sweeping her gaze over the crowd. "Anyone here with common sense could tell what's going on. And I heard plenty of people badmouthing me just now. So am I overthinking it, or was Andrea leading the conversation? Mom, which is it?"
Ruth glared at Kaia, teeth clenched. "Don't you feel ashamed, making a scene like this? Why can't we talk about this at home?"
"Why should I?" Kaia's gaze turned sharp, full of defiance. "She can say whatever she wants about me in public, but I can't fight back? Just because she's the one you and Dad raised, and I'm the daughter from the countryside who's an embarrassment to the family?"
Kaia's words tore away the couple's facade without mercy.
"You… you're the death of me!" Ruth raised her hand and wanted to slap Kaia.
