"They're so heartless! Honestly, you're better off leaving a family like that," Penny said angrily. "You don't have anywhere to go right now, do you? Why not come stay at my place? I'm sure my parents would be totally fine with it."
Hearing that, Kaia glanced at Donald.
"Dad, you're okay with it, right?" Penny asked, her voice sweet and a little spoiled.
Donald blew out a puff of smoke and strolled over with a smile, saying, "Any friend of Penny's is welcome in our family. If you want, come home with us. It's not safe for a girl to be out alone at night. And if you ever want to move out later, I can help you find somewhere to stay."
Kaia thought to herself, 'There's still real kindness in this world. No matter how cold my family is, I'll never stop believing in that.'
Just as Kaia was about to refuse, a black Maybach pulled up.
"Huh?" Donald stared at the approaching car, his voice tinged with surprise and confusion. "That looks like a global limited edition Maybach."
Penny's eyes widened as she looked at her father. "Dad, are you sure? You mean the Maybach we saw in Gasha City?"
Penny didn't know much about cars, but her dad did. Honestly, most men knew cars the way women knew their handbags.
Since her dad was always talking about cars at home, she'd picked up a few things.
"It should be," Donald said.
As soon as he finished speaking, the Maybach stopped in front of Kaia.
The window rolled down halfway, and a deep, rich voice came from inside. "Get in."
"Okay." Kaia nodded, then turned to Penny and Donald and said, "Thanks for the offer, but I already have somewhere to stay."
Penny instinctively looked at the person inside the car. With the interior lights off, she could only make out his outline under the glow of the streetlights.
He looked good-looking and definitely not old.
"Um... Kaia, you and him... you don't have that kind of relationship, right?" Penny asked awkwardly.
Kaia said with a smile, "So you think I'm a kept woman, someone's mistress?"
"No, no, that's not what I meant at all! I just… I'm worried you might be getting played or something," Penny hurried to explain.
"Don't worry, it's not that kind of relationship between us," Kaia reassured her.
Penny stared at Kaia, searching her face for any sign of a lie. But Kaia looked totally honest, and her intuition told her Kaia wasn't the type to do such a thing. Andrea, on the other hand, probably was.
"So you really won't come to our place?" Penny asked.
Kaia replied, "I don't want to trouble you guys. I really do have somewhere to go."
Seeing Kaia so insistent, Penny didn't press her.
Watching the car drive away, Penny couldn't help but ask, "Dad, who do you think picked Kaia up?"
"No way to tell," Donald replied, shaking his head and tossing away his cigarette. "Don't stress about it. If she really considers you a true friend, she'll let you know someday."
"Yeah, you always say everyone's got their secrets. If we're friends, I shouldn't push her," Penny said and decided not to dwell on who Kaia was with anymore.
Meanwhile, Tobias had taken Kaia to a beachfront villa.
"Why did you bring me here?" Kaia asked, her face full of confusion as she stared at the villa in front of her.
Tobias smiled and clapped his hands.
Suddenly, colorful lights snapped on in succession, stretching from the villa to the nearby trees, and eventually illuminating the whole coastline.
It was absolutely breathtaking, like something straight out of a dream.
With soothing music playing, Devin pushed out a pink castle-shaped cake to Kaia.
Hearing that, Kaia glanced at Donald.
