Kaia raised an eyebrow. Of course, she knew. It was a clothing brand under K&B, and Conrad had named it after her.
It was so cheesy. But honestly, she couldn't be bothered to care.
Seeing Kaia silent, Penny assumed she didn't know.
"Let me tell you. This is under K&B, the company run by Conrad Dorsey, who is both the CEO and chief designer. Kaye Bella is a global chain and the top dog in the fashion industry. The clothes here are crazy expensive." Penny explained.
As she spoke, Penny scratched her neck awkwardly, her face turning a little red. "Um… when I said to buy anything you want, other brands are fine, but here… I can only afford maybe two sets."
Kaia laughed, genuinely amused by Penny's honesty.
"Let's go in. Pick whatever you like, and I'll get it for you. Even if you end up liking everything, I'm happy to buy it all for you. After all, it's your birthday today," Kaia said.
After all, it was her own brand. It wasn't like it would cost her a dime.
Penny totally thought Kaia was just kidding, but hearing that still made her happy.
Once inside, Kaia picked out a blue-and-purple patchwork dress and asked, "Want to try this one?"
"Wow, Kaia, you have such good taste! This one is so unique. I absolutely love it. Wait. Why are you picking for me? I should be picking for you." Penny was puzzled.
"Just try it," Kaia said, not even bothering to explain, as she walked over to Penny with the dress.
Just then, a hand suddenly reached out and grabbed the dress.
"This one is cute. I'll take it," the girl declared.
Kaia's brows knitted as she turned to look.
She recognized the girl, who was probably from the Parsons family in their social circle, but she couldn't recall her name.
"Rita, you're going too far! We saw this first," Penny snapped, shooting her a glare.
"You saw it? Did you pay for it?" Rita sneered, lifting her chin high.
"And did you?" Penny also grabbed the dress, afraid Kaia might get pulled over by Rita if she resisted.
"I'm paying right now," Rita said, whipping out her card.
Penny fired back, "Funny, I'm paying right now too."
"Penny, are you seriously trying to mess with me? There are tons of other clothes. Why do you have to fight me over this one?" Rita said.
"Wow! I've seen someone unreasonable like you. We clearly came first and had it in our hands, and you say we're the ones snatching from you?" Penny was exasperated.
The store manager walked over with a polite smile. "Ladies, there's a similar style over there, perhaps—"
"I want this one!" Rita cut her off.
"Me too!" Sienna raised her voice.
Anyone familiar with Kaye Bella knew that each style only had one piece per size.
As the two women glared at each other, Kaia suddenly yanked the dress free from both of their hands.
"What the hell are you doing?" Rita shouted at Kaia.
"This dress is mine. You've got no right to take it," Kaia said, her face completely expressionless.
"Oh, please! You're just a country bumpkin kicked out of your home, and you dare to fight me over a dress?" Rita turned to the manager and staff, saying, "You all better keep an eye on her. She definitely can't afford anything here. I think she came here to steal. You know how expensive these clothes are. If one goes missing, be prepared to hand over a full year's pay."
The manager and sales staff instantly looked uneasy after hearing Rita's words.
Penny's face turned bright red with anger. "Who are you to say she can't afford it? Rita, stop looking down on people. Yes, Kaia's family kicked her out, but she's this year's top scorer in Morganburg. Life turns around. With her talent, I believe it won't be long before she makes a name for herself!"
