"Cut it out! So what if she's the top scorer? It's not that impressive. There's a top scorer every year, right? How many of them actually go anywhere? Most of them just disappear and are never heard from again," Rita sneered. Her tone couldn't have been more disdainful.
She continued, "My parents also said that someone like Kaia, who disrespects her elders, bullies her own sister, and lies all the time, won't get far. No matter how good her grades are, once she's out in the real world, she'll just end up making enemies. She won't amount to much and will probably end up with a ruined reputation."
Penny's chest was heaving with anger. "Who do your parents think they are? Are they fortune-tellers or something? Can they see into the future?"
"I'm not wasting my breath on you." Rita gave Penny a look of pure contempt before turning to Kaia again. "Hey! I'm warning you. Hand over that dress to me nicely.
"Even if you don't want to give it to me, you'll have to. In case you don't know, my family is a business partner of K&B, and that gives us the privilege to buy Kaye Bella's clothing before anyone else."
With that, Rita pulled a VIP card out of her bag and waved it in front of the store manager. "You recognize this card, right? Tell them, do I have priority purchase?" she demanded.
The manager nodded quickly. "Yes, that's the corporate VIP membership card. It does give you priority. Miss, please wait a moment. I'll pack it up for you right away."
The manager approached Kaia and held out her hand. "Miss, I'm sorry, but please return the dress to me. There are plenty of other styles in the store that are also very nice. I can personally recommend some for you. How about it?"
"Some store manager you are—you don't even have the sense to read people. Seriously, she's just a country bumpkin. You don't need to be so polite to her. You're here to make sales, not waste your time and energy on people who clearly can't afford anything. If I were your boss, I'd have fired you already," Rita snapped.
She was annoyed that the manager was treating Kaia so nicely and couldn't wait to see Kaia thrown out of the store.
"Uh..." The manager looked awkward.
Just then, a cool voice spoke from beside her. "She's doing exactly the right thing. When Kaye Bella was founded, the very first rule was to provide excellent service and never judge people by their appearance. That's something every employee has to know from day one."
The manager's eyes widened as she looked at Kaia, thinking, 'How does she know that?'
"Ugh, this is so infuriating! Kaia, let's just go!" Penny huffed, clearly frustrated. She honestly didn't mind sticking around, but Rita just wouldn't stop picking on Kaia, calling her a country bumpkin and saying all those nasty things.
"No need to rush. Let's buy the dress first before we go." Kaia said, patting Penny's hand with a gentle, reassuring smile.
Penny opened her mouth slightly, looking surprised.
Kaia turned to the manager and said, "She might be a business partner, but I know people too. Just give me a second. I'll make a call."
"You know someone?" Rita burst out laughing. "Kaia, you expect us to believe you have connections? Don't tell me you know someone from the head office or something. You really do love to brag, just like the rumors say!"
Ignoring Rita's mockery, Kaia took out her phone and called Conrad.
"Ms. Bennett, you only ever call when you need something. Go on, what is it this time?" The man on the other end teased.
