"A...Arisu?" I stood there in complete shock. What was she doing here? More importantly, why did I let go of (Y/N)'s hand?
"Kurapika! It's been such a long time since we've seen each other!"
Arisu embraced me...as if (Y/N) was not there. My arms involuntarily wrapped themselves around her small frame. Her scent brought me back to when we were a couple. All of the painful memories I had of her suddenly disappeared.
"Want to get out of here to talk? We have a lot of catching up to do." Arisu asked while pulling away from me.
"Uh...sure. Where would you like to go?"
"It doesn't matter."
Arisu grabbed my hand. She started running...leaving me no choice but to follow her. I briefly looked back at (Y/N). I noticed her melancholy expression...her misty eyes...the corners of her tiny mouth drawn downwards. It saddened me. Nevertheless, I was still running after Arisu. Why?
Arisu stopped running after a few blocks. She looked back at me, breathing heavily.
"Whew. Finally...alone."
"Arisu? What do you want to talk about?"
"No...not here." She answered while waving down a taxi.
We hopped in the taxi. She gave the driver my address. She remembered.
She fell back onto the seat while offering me a soft smile. Yes...I recall her smile. It used to brighten my day. I smiled back.
It was nightfall by the time we arrived at my apartment. We removed our shoes and jackets before entering the living room.
"Does Leorio still live here?"
"Yes. However, he is still at work."
"Good."
She ran into my bedroom as if it was her own.
"Umm...may I offer you something to drink?"
"No...just come here before Leorio comes home."
Arisu and Leorio never got along. In fact, he was rather happy when he learned she was no longer a part of my life. Of course, he wouldn't admit it at the time. Especially while I was getting over my heartbreak. He took great care of me, as always.
I walked into my bedroom. Arisu was sitting on my bed with a big smile on her face. I closed the door behind me before walking over to sit beside her.
"I missed you, Kurapika."
"Arisu, what did you want to talk about?"
"Oh, c'mon. Talking isn't fun." She answered while pulling my tie.
"What are you doing?"
"What does it look like I'm doing?" She asked with a mischievous smile on her face.
She managed to pull off my tie. I gently grabbed her hand before she had the chance to unbutton my shirt.
"Arisu, I am serious."
She pouted as she sat on her knees.
"I just wanted to tell you how much I've missed you...and...I'm sorry."
"Oh...you're sorry? Almost two years have passed and now...you're sorry?"
"Yes, Kurapika! We all make mistakes!"
I understand that more than anyone, as I have made my fair share of mistakes. Even so, I cannot allow her to manipulate me the way she used to.
"Arisu, if that's all you have to say, then I think it's best you leave now."
"What? Why? We haven't had any fun yet!"
She grabbed my right hand.
"Can your chains come out to play?" She asked while shaking my hand.
"No." I pulled my hand away. She pouted again.
"Fine...this is more than enough anyway." She said while unbuckling my belt.
"No, Arisu. Please...stop." I gently pushed her away.
"Why? I just want to experience what we had again. Our last night together was amazing."
"That's because I thought you were in love with me."
"Let's get back together."
"No."
"Why? Wait...don't tell me that girl you were with is your new girlfriend!" She shouted before bursting into laughter.
So she did notice (Y/N).
"Yes. She is."
"Well, you can let her down easily."
"We're in love."
"Aww...my Kurapika is in love!"
"I'm not yours. Not anymore."
"What's her name?"
"Why does it matter?"
"It doesn't. Just so you know...I will fight for you, Kurapika."
"Don't waste your energy."
She didn't reply. Instead, she unwrapped her dress. I caught a glimpse of her matching red undergarments and immediately looked away.
"Arisu, please put your dress back on."
She ignored my request. I felt her climb on top of me.
"Look at me, Kurapika." She said while turning my face towards her. I kept my eyes closed.
Her velvety soft lips pressed against mine. My eyes shot wide open.
"What the hell are you doing?" I shouted.
No reply. Instead, she attempted to kiss me once more...leaving me no choice but to restrain her. In one swift motion, I managed to pin her down on my bed. I was now on top of her. I held her tiny wrists above her head. She looked up at me.
"Kurapika?"
Arisu's deep brown eyes met mine. I felt my heart rate gradually increase as memories of her flooded my brain. I brought my lips to her ear.
"I'm going to let go now. Promise me you'll behave."
"Okay...I promise."
I released her. I stood up, making sure not to look at her almost bare body.
"Kurapika!" She shouted as she made her way in front of me.
"Are you dressed yet?"
Seconds later, she snapped her fingers in front of my face. "Yes, Kurapika. You can open your eyes now." She answered with frustration in her voice.
I sighed in relief when I noticed her dress was back on. There was a knock on my door.
"Kurapika? Are you in there? I brought home some dinner if you want." Leorio asked.
"Uh...no, thank you. I have already eaten. Thank you."
"Okay! There's extra if you change your mind later!"
I heard Leorio walking away. Arisu had a disgusted look on her face.
"Uh...that asshole is home."
"Arisu! I will not stand here and allow you to insult my best friend in my home."
"Whatever."
"Please...leave." I pointed to the door.
"Fine. I'll leave. But remember what I said. I will fight for you."
"I already told you...it's pointless. I'm in love with (Y/N)."
"Are you?"
"Of course."
"Then ask yourself this...why did you just abandon her?"
That was a good question. I'm afraid I didn't have an answer.
"I'll walk you out."
We walked out to the living room. Leorio noticed me from the dining room table.
"Hey, Kurapika! Is that (Y/N) with you?"
"Uh...no."
Arisu jumps in front of me. Leorio falls out of his seat, almost choking on his dinner.
"Wait...what the hell is she doing here?" Leorio asked when he stopped coughing.
"It's nice to see you, too, Leorio." Arisu responded, sarcastically.
Leorio stumbled his way towards us, still in disbelief. Arisu smiled at him.
"Didn't you hear the news? Pika and I are back together!"
"Please...don't call me that. And...we are not back together." I interjected.
"In time, my dear. Good night."
Arisu took her shoes and jacket before walking out the door. I started to walk back to my room. Leorio grabbed my arm.
"Kurapika! You have some explaining to do!"
"Not now, Leorio. I've had a long day." I answered while releasing myself from his grip.
Leorio examined me with his eyes. He placed his hands on his hips.
"Kurapika, what the hell were you two doing?"
Blood rushed to my cheeks as my friend pointed to my pants, which were unbuttoned.
"It's not what you think! I swear...nothing happened!"
"Have a seat. We need to talk." Leorio said while guiding me to the dining room.
I explained everything to Leorio.
"Wait...so you left (Y/N) out there all by herself?"
"Yeah." I answered, looking down.
"This is out of character for you, Kurapika. Why did you follow Arisu in the first place?"
"I don't know. When I saw her standing in front of me...it's like all of my feelings came rushing back to me. Those feelings I've repressed for so long."
"Are you saying you're still in love with Arisu?"
"No. I don't know. I'm conflicted, Leorio."
"I know exactly what you need." Leorio said with a confident smile on his face.
"You do? What is it?" I asked, desperate for an answer.
"Closure. She just up and left you...leaving you to figure out what went wrong."
"Closure, huh?" I asked while holding my chin.
"Yep. Ask her why she broke it off with you. Just keep this in mind...you might not like her answer."
"Right."
"In the meantime, check on (Y/N). I'm sure her mind is flooded with questions."
I stood up to leave. Leorio stopped me.
"Hey, Kurapika...I'm here for you. Whatever you need...don't hesitate to ask."
"Thank you, Leorio. I appreciate it."
I sat on my bed, staring at my phone. Several missed calls and a voicemail from (Y/N). I took a deep breath before listening to it.
Kurapika...what happened tonight? Please...call me back. I want to make sure you're safe. I...I love you.
My phone started to vibrate in my hands. (Y/N) was calling me again. I tossed my phone to the side while falling onto my bed. Dammit! I can't bring myself to talk to her. Not yet.
Two weeks slowly passed. One morning, I woke up to the sound of rain tapping on my window. I pulled open my curtains to look outside. The gloomy weather matched my frame of mind.
I have kept to myself as I did not want to speak to anyone. Not even Leorio, who, bless him, has been worrying about me.
Surprisingly, Arisu has not been pestering me. I explained to her that I just need a little time to figure things out. She agreed and we are to meet today. I'm ready for answers.
As for (Y/N), I have yet to call her. I know what you are probably thinking...Kurapika, are you not in love with (Y/N)? Why don't you ever answer your phone?
Yes. Of course I love (Y/N). The truth of the matter is, I've never been an emotionally stable person. I need to fix my flaws before I can offer myself to her. Otherwise, what use would I be to her? She doesn't deserve someone who is broken.
As far as not answering my phone, I'm just not ready to hear her voice.
Later that afternoon, I sat in my living room, waiting for Arisu to arrive. There was a nervous feeling in my stomach. I felt completely unprepared for our meeting.
Leorio was getting ready to leave. He stood in front of me.
"Hey, buddy. I'm going to head out to give you two some privacy."
"Thank you."
"Are you sure you're going to be okay?" He must have noticed my nervousness.
"Yeah, of course."
"Well, don't hesitate to call me if you need me to come home early."
"Don't be ridiculous. Have fun with your new girlfriend."
"Thanks!"
Arisu knocked on the door within minutes of Leorio's departure. A wave of nausea came over me as I stood up to open the door. She wrapped her arms around my neck after she took off her shoes.
"Oh, Kurapika! I've missed you so much!"
"Hello."
I held Arisu close. My eyes closed as more memories of her flooded my brain. What made me fall in love with her in the first place? Yes...I remember now. It was her patience with me. A few months into our relationship, I received intel on the last set of scarlet eyes. She knew how important it was for me to retrieve them. I didn't have time to spend with her as I was consumed in my research. Instead of complaining, she offered me her assistance. She even went as far as arranging my flights and hotel reservations. I remember the look in her eyes when I came back holding the scarlet eyes. She was truly happy for me.
I finally released her. She looked up at me with her hypnotic eyes. She looked absolutely beautiful. It felt like I went back in time. Back to when Arisu and I were happy together.
Arisu stepped on her tiptoes to reach me. My heart rate increased as I inhaled the familiar scent of her perfume. Her lips fell on mine. Her lipstick must have been infused with a mind-altering substance as I felt compelled to kiss her back.
Moments later, I found myself on my bed, kissing Arisu. I don't remember how we got there. I felt my phone vibrating. I pulled it out of my pocket and threw it on the floor without checking to see who was calling. Arisu broke our kiss. I stared down at her while holding myself up with my arms.
"Kurapika?"
"Yes?"
"Can we go back to our last night together?"
I didn't answer. Instead, I kissed the delicate skin beneath her earlobe.
"Kura...pika...I...love...you." she moaned while pressing her body against mine.
"I love you too, (Y/N)."
Arisu froze beneath me.
"What did you call me?"
Oops.
Arisu slapped me across the face before pushing me off of her. I can't say I didn't deserve that.
I heard the front door open. Leorio is home earlier than expected. Seconds later. I heard my bedroom door creak open.
"Kurapika?" A familiar voice called out.
My heart skipped a beat. What the hell was I doing? I simply wanted closure with Arisu. What was she doing on my bed? I slowly turned my head to face the doorway. I was lost for words.
"It's nice to see you've been having a good time while I've been at home worrying myself sick about you."
I felt irremediable sorrow as I watched (Y/N) standing there. An expression of sad confusion on her beautiful face.
"You're a jerk, Kurapika!"
"No, (Y/N)...it's not what you think!" I waved my hands in front of me.
"You...you broke my heart." she said with sadness in her voice.
She ran away. What have I done? I couldn't move...I sat there for minutes.
The front door to my apartment opened. I quickly jumped out of the bed to run after (Y/N). When I entered the living room, I saw Leorio. I've never seen him look so irate before.
"Leorio?"
"I just saw (Y/N). Mind telling me why you left her for that no good Arisu?"
"I didn't! I swear...it was a misunderstanding!"
Arisu walked out of the bedroom. She stood in front of me.
"Kurapika, we can be together now since (Y/N) is out of the picture." she said with a big smile on her face.
"No, Arisu. I don't love you."
Her smile quickly faded. She pulled her eyebrows close together and squinted her eyes. The corners of her mouth pointed downwards. She pushed me.
"You want to know why I left you?"
Right. That was why I invited her here in the first place.
"Y...yes."
"Hmm...where should I begin? How about the fact that you're the saddest person on this planet? All you ever did was obsess over those stupid eyes!" she yelled.
"Stupid eyes? If they were so meaningless to you, then why did you help me with travel arrangements?"
"To get you to leave! You never gave me any attention...a woman has needs, you know? I had to find someone else to fill the void."
I fell on my knees. I never knew words could hurt so much. Leorio ran to my side.
"Kurapika, don't let her get to you. She's just mad you didn't choose her."
"Is that so?"
"Yes. This woman never treated you with the respect you deserved. You were too blinded by love to notice."
"I was?"
"Yes! Forget Arisu! You have (Y/N) now. I notice the look in her eyes when she stares at you. That's real love."
Arisu stepped closer to us. She pointed at Leorio.
"You shut up, Leorio! This is between me and Kurapika!"
I forced myself to stand back up. I had a few more questions to ask her.
"So...Arisu...were you seeing someone else the entire time we were together?"
"Umm...yes."
"I'm having trouble understanding. If I meant nothing to you, then why did you stay with me?"
Arisu looked down.
"I don't know...I guess during our time together...I fell for you." Her voice calmed down.
I clenched my fists. The temperature in the room increased dramatically.
"A year...you strung me along for an entire year."
"Kurapika, I..."
"Let me finish. You allowed me to fall in love with you while you were off giving someone else affection? Answer me...how did that make you feel? Do you have any regrets?"
"I felt horrible! I regret it everyday!"
"Then our last night together...why did you leave me the way you did?"
"It was because I loved you back...and...I knew I didn't deserve you." She answered, her voice almost a whisper.
I stood there staring at Arisu. The woman I once loved...with whom I experienced a lot of firsts. I was hurt. Leorio was right. I didn't like the answer she gave me.
"You can leave now."
"Please, Kurapika! I'm so sorry!"
"No. You had your chance. I love (Y/N)."
"No...you love me and you know it. Besides, (Y/N) will never forgive you."
"Regardless, I still need to try."
Arisu grabbed my arms. Tears were now streaming down her face. She buried her face in my chest. I didn't move.
"Goodbye, Arisu."
Arisu pulled back from me. She looked at me with tear-filled eyes before slowly walking out of my apartment. Leorio wrapped his arm around my shoulder.
"You okay?"
"No. I messed up, Leorio."
"What do you mean?"
"I...I kissed Arisu."
"C'mon...don't be so hard on yourself. You're a man. It's not like it meant anything, right?"
"That doesn't justify my behavior."
"Well...no. But I'm sure (Y/N) will understand."
I remembered the look on (Y/N)'s face when she saw me in bed with Arisu. Her heart was breaking because of me.
"I need to find (Y/N)."
"Want me to drive you?"
"No, thank you. I'll be fine."
"Please, Kurapika...call me if you need help."
I nodded at my friend before running out of my apartment.
I called (Y/N) as soon as I started my engine. No answer. I wasn't surprised.
I went straight to her apartment building. After a heated argument with the security guard, I made it in. I knocked on her door. No answer. Doesn't she know I'm a hunter? She can't hide from me.
I smiled to myself when I noticed she turned off her location on her phone. She didn't know I had installed my own tracking device on it. It wasn't because I didn't trust her...I had no reason to doubt her. It was for her own safety. I'd always protect her.
My eyes widened as soon as I saw her location. What was she doing on top of the tallest skyscraper in the city? I drove as fast as I could. I took the elevator all the way to the top.
"(Y/N)?"
I ran until I saw her. She was standing only a few feet away from the edge. Her back was facing me.
"(Y/N)? What the hell are you doing up here?"
She slowly turned her head to face me. Her eyes were bloodshot. Tears streamed down her cheeks.
I slowly walked up to her. Before I was able to close the gap between us, there was the loud sound of a gunshot, stopping me in my tracks. I conjured my chains.
"Get away from her!"
I looked in the direction of the voice, waiting for the silhouette to become recognizable.
"Arisu?"
"Surprised to see me?" Arisu asked me with a devilish smile on her face.
I was taken aback. What was she doing here? More importantly, what was she doing with a gun?
"Arisu, I understand you want to hurt me."
"You're wrong, Kurapika. It's not you I want to hurt...it's (Y/N). Get any closer to her and I'll shoot."
"Put the gun down. I don't want you to get hurt."
"I'm already hurt, Kurapika." She pointed the gun to (Y/N).
"Dowsing Chain!"
I threw my dowsing chain at the gun. It fell from her hand. She knew my abilities. I can easily avoid a bullet and protect (Y/N) at the same time. Why did she choose such an easy attack? Wait...no...it was a distraction. Where did she go? I quickly turned around. Arisu had her arms wrapped around (Y/N)'s neck. She was dragging her to the edge of the building.
"Your chain can't save her." Arisu said while she placed a knife against (Y/N)'s throat. "As soon as I see your arm move, I'll slice her throat."
Dammit...it takes a half a second to land an attack. That's too long.
"Arisu...please. We can talk through this. No one needs to get hurt."
"No, Kurapika. If I can't have you then neither can she!"
What have I done? I dragged (Y/N) into this mess. I'd never forgive myself if something were to happen to her.
Arisu kept her eyes on me as she moved closer to the edge. She was waiting for me to throw my chain. Time was running out. I had to make a decision...fast! My dowsing chain was ready. I need to be in Emperor Time to use any of my other chains. There simply wasn't enough time to activate it. That being said, I can only save one of them.
Arisu slipped, causing them both to fall off of the building. I ran to the edge. They were falling at an incredible speed. It would probably take less than twenty seconds to reach the ground.
I knew who I would save even before they fell. I threw down my chain. It wrapped itself around the love of my life. Seconds later, I pulled her up. I wrapped my arms tightly around her. Tears filled my eyes as I checked to see if she had any injuries.
"Are you hurt?"
She didn't respond. Her face was blank. She was in shock.
I remember screaming at the top of my lungs. Out of nowhere, I saw Leorio running towards us.
"Leorio? What are you doing here?" I asked, confused.
"I stayed close behind you in case you needed my help." Leorio answered while opening his briefcase.
I am blessed to have such a great friend.
"Please...is (Y/N) going to be okay?" I asked, panicking.
"I'm going to stabilize her, but she'll need to go to the hospital for further testing. An ambulance is already on its way."
Leorio is an excellent doctor. I'd trust him with my life.
I backed away to allow Leorio to work. I suddenly felt an emptiness as I looked over the edge of the building. I was overcome with emotion. My heart felt an incredible sadness. Anxiety filled my chest. Arisu was dead...no doubt about it.
That evening, I sat in a chair next to (Y/N)'s hospital bed. I was waiting for her to wake up. Her skin color was pale, otherwise, she looked fine. I reached under the thick blanket to pull her hand out. I held it tightly.
"(Y/N), I'm so sorry. You're in here because of me. I don't know if you'll ever forgive me...I honestly don't expect you to...but...you need to know how much I love you. I'll stay by your side until you order me to leave."
Tears welled up in my eyes as I kissed the top of her hand. Why wasn't she waking up?
"Kurapika?"
My heart skipped a beat. "(Y/N)? You're awake!"
"What happened? Am I in a hospital?"
"You don't remember?"
(Y/N) attempted to recall the recent events. "No." She reached up to touch my cheek. "Kurapika? What won't I forgive you for? Are you the reason why I'm here?"
I felt a teardrop fall from my cheek. "The answer to your question is...yes. I'm the reason why you're here."
"Well...you have my forgiveness."
"But...you don't remember what I've done."
"I don't care. There's nothing you can do that would make me not want to forgive you."
"No...I don't deserve your forgiveness! I mean...I don't even forgive myself."
"Stop being so hard on yourself. You're a good person, Kurapika. You would never intentionally harm anyone."
Six months passed by. (Y/N) eventually remembered what happened. What upset her the most was the way Arisu died.
I have asked (Y/N) to marry me. It was the most terrifying experience of my life. Thankfully, she said yes.
I booked us a room in the most elaborate hotel in the city. I have made love to (Y/N) before. However, it felt like this was the first time. With a brilliant future ahead of us, we had reason to celebrate.
I'm not exaggerating when I tell you (Y/N) is the most beautiful woman in the world. Trust me, I've traveled to many places. She captivates me with her eyes. Her skin is softer than cashmere. Her scent is sweeter than any flower on the planet. I took my time undressing her, taking in her beauty as I tossed each piece of clothing on the floor.
I stared at her as she lay beneath me. The soft yellow glow from the candles surrounding us flickered over her. I can't believe this amazing woman is mine...forever. I glanced at her left hand. She proudly wore my ring on her finger as a reminder of her promise to me.
(Y/N) reached up to me. I smiled. The future Mrs. Kurta was growing impatient. I leaned down to kiss my bride-to-be while positioning myself at her center. She was ready for me. I slowly entered her. A soft cry escaped her lips. This moment was my favorite. That first feeling of sliding inside of her...her warmth enveloping me. She's mine now.
I picked up the pace, finding the perfect rhythm for her. I gazed into her eyes. Yes. I would die for her. I would use my chain jail right now and allow the Nen dagger that is residing inside of my heart to kill me. Anything for her.
"Kurapika?"
I loved the way she called out my name.
"Yes, my love?" I answered while intertwining my fingers with hers.
"My head is spinning."
"Mine is as well." I ran my tongue up her neck, tasting her sweetness. I stopped below her earlobe. "It's euphoria."
"I love it...don't stop."
Never. There wasn't a thing in the world that would make me stop. Her pleasure meant more than my own. She gripped the sheets while spreading her legs further apart. She was close.
I brushed my lips against hers before gently biting her lower lip. As much as I wanted to ravish her, I had to control myself. I stopped for a few seconds. She breathed heavily against me...waiting. I plunged myself deeper. She screamed my name while digging her nails deep into my back. The pain was intense...sweet torture.
She shuddered against me before falling back onto the bed. I watched as she recovered from her orgasm. The corners of my mouth moved upward. It was my turn.
(Y/N)'s legs were convulsing...a sign that I did my job well. I moved in and out of her quicker than before. She started to moan again. Right. (Y/N) usually has two to three orgasms at a time. I guess mine will have to wait. I know what my (Y/N) likes...a few strokes to the left, a few to the right, then back to the middle.
"Kura...pi...ahh!" She moaned while she climaxed for a second time.
I lost control after I heard her scream my name again. I didn't wait for her to recover this time. I couldn't. My breathing became heavy. I felt an immeasurable amount of pleasure around my penis. It quickly spread throughout my entire body.
My head fell back as I experienced colossal enjoyment. I attempted to stay quiet, but failed miserably. I moaned loudly as I climaxed inside of (Y/N). The feeling lasted a few seconds. I fell on top of her, bracing myself with my arms. She smiled at me.
It took me a minute to recover. I heard (Y/N) giggle.
"Are you laughing at me?"
"Of course not...you're just so cute when you moan like that."
I smiled as I rolled off of her. My heart rate was finally returning to normal. My body has never felt so relaxed.
"I love you, " she said.
"And I love you. I can't wait for us to exchange vows in front of our friends."
"Me too!"
"And I promise you...I will be a great husband."
"I know you will."
I gave her a quick kiss before getting up to dress myself. I passed her a new set of pajamas to change into.
I blew out the candles before getting back into bed. I held (Y/N) close.
"Good night, my Heaven." I said while stroking her hair.
"Good night."
"It's funny. I don't want to sleep." I told her.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, for once in my life, reality is better than my dreams. I'd much rather be awake with you."
"Oh, Kurapika! Do you mean that?'
"I do."
A few minutes later, I heard (Y/N) breathing softly. She fell asleep in my arms. So much has happened in such a short period of time. I'm glad she was able to forgive me. I don't know how I would have been able to live without her. I promise to cherish and protect her always. I stake my life on it.
