This sleeplessness will be the end of me. Pointless thoughts tormented my mind. I turned over to check the time. It was a little past two. I should have just climbed out of bed, but I feel a sense of tranquility when your body is next to mine. I turned back around to face you. The room was dark; however, the city lights from outside the building casted a soft glow on your face. I couldn't help but smile as I watched you dream. If only I could close my eyes and dream with you.
You reached over to grab my hand...most likely making sure I was still there. I did not intend on leaving you. I apologize for all the other times I have left without warning. I caught you smiling in your sleep. Are you truly happy with me? Are you happy with a man who is too consumed with his own personal affairs?
You told me you loved me. I have yet to tell you in return. It's not because I don't share your feelings. I love you more than anything. I am simply not worthy of your adoration. I am keeping something important from you. It's selfish of me to continue our relationship without telling you the truth.
Your bare shoulder was exposed. You shivered from the cold. I gently kissed your soft skin before covering you with the comforter. I couldn't resist the urge to smell your hair. The scent of your favorite shampoo filled my nose. You squeezed my hand. I didn't want to wake you. Or rather, maybe I did.
"Ku...Kurapika?" you asked with your eyes still closed.
"Shh...go back to sleep. I promise I'll still be here when you wake up."
"Will you hold me?"
"Of course," I answered while wrapping my arm around you.
I pulled your body close to mine. You fit perfectly. I swear you were made for me. I felt heat rise to my cheeks. I pulled you too close. I prayed you couldn't feel my excitement.
"Kurapika? Are you having trouble sleeping again?" you asked while placing your hand under my shirt.
You traced your fingers over my abdomen. I grabbed your hand. I didn't want you to go down any further. I was already ashamed of the thoughts that were flooding my mind. Thoughts of what I wanted to do to you.
"Kurapika?"
I cleared my throat. "Yes?"
"You still haven't answered my question."
"Umm...yes. I'm having trouble falling asleep."
"That's it. You're seeing a doctor. I'm worried about you," you said.
"I assure you...I'm fine."
"No, Kurapika. You're not. I'm speaking to Leorio tomorrow."
"Whatever makes you happy. I'll do anything for you."
You were silent for a few seconds.
"Anything?" you asked.
"Yes."
You freed your hand from mine. You placed it on my cheek.
"Kiss me."
I traced your tempting lips with my thumb. I used every ounce of strength to refrain from devouring you. I allowed my lips to fall on yours. After stealing one kiss, I pulled away.
"No, Kurapika. Kiss me."
You opened your mouth as soon as I pressed my lips against yours. I felt your tongue caress mine. I reached behind your head to deepen our kiss. It was too late. Unless you told me no, I wouldn't have been able to stop.
(Y/N), there is something mesmerizing about your kiss. Whenever you kiss me, it's as if I'm under your spell. Whatever you desire...it's yours.
I couldn't break away from you. I've never done drugs before, but I imagine this is what an addict feels like. I'm in a state of euphoria whenever I kiss you. My tongue fought for dominance while you attempted to match my movements.
I gently rolled you on your back while steadying myself on top of you. I finally broke away. You were panting. I hope I didn't deprive you of air.
My lips made their way to your neck. I love kissing the delicate skin below your earlobe. I should have stopped right there, but I kept going. I made a trail of kisses down your neck to your collarbone.
I pulled away. I looked into your compelling eyes while you combed my hair back with your fingers. I reached over to turn on the bedside lamp. I wanted a better view of you...the enchantress who owns my heart.
I told myself to stop while I unbuttoned your pajama top. The prefrontal cortex of my brain shut down. My heart made all of my decisions from that point on.
My eyes threatened to turn crimson as your bare body laid in front of me. (Y/N), you are ravishing. Your body is a work of art; especially with my bed as its canvas. I hope you can forgive me for what I did next.
"Kurapika!" you screamed as I entered you.
We shouldn't be doing this; however, we both knew this was going to happen. We've been sharing a bed for a while now. Why delay the inevitable?
I thrusted myself in and out of you with ferocity. Who did I turn into? I had to regain my self control. I stared deep into your eyes in an attempt to read your mind. The corners of your mouth moved upward into the sweetest smile I have ever seen. You pulled me in deeper. A moan escaped from your lips. You were trying to tell me something. I slowed down to listen.
"I love you," you whispered in my ear.
Those words traveled through my soul. I pressed my lips against yours. The loving way you kissed me back reassured me that you had no regrets.
Time ceased to exist. We were connected by an intense desire. A desire so powerful that not even Nen could break. I could have simply repeated those words to you. Instead, I expressed my love physically to you. I wanted you to experience rapturous ecstasy. I could tell you were close to climaxing by the way you shuddered beneath me.
"Ku...ra...pi...ka!"
Yes...call out my name. You can have it. In fact, I want us to share the same name. How does that sound to you?
I paused while you recovered. I couldn't help but stare at your breasts while you breathed heavily. I licked each one until your skin glistened with my saliva. Seconds later, I plunged myself back into your warmth. I fell deep into a sea of bliss without a lifesaver.
You massaged my back with your fingertips while I recovered. I softly kissed your lips before rolling to my side of the bed. We didn't say a word to each other. I turned off the light. After getting under the covers, I pulled you close to me. Both of us were exhausted. We quickly fell asleep.
After only two hours of sleep, I woke up. Feeling guilty, I decided to write you the letter you are reading.
(Y/N), I love you. I love you more than you'll ever know. I'm sorry for not telling you sooner. I'm also sorry for not telling you everything about me. Like I mentioned before, I've been keeping a secret from you.
My power, Emperor Time, has limits. It shortens my life span. I'm afraid I won't have a long life with you. I thought you should know before you invest more time in me.
As promised, I will be here when you wake up. I'll be reading in the living room. Please join me. I'll answer any questions you have.
P.S. What we shared last night was amazing. Thank you for that brief visit to Heaven.
Love,
Kurapika
Tears welled up in your eyes as you held Kurapika's letter to your chest. You carefully placed it back inside the envelope before walking to the living room.
You felt your heart flutter as you walked down the hall. You prepared yourself to run to Kurapika as soon as you saw him. However, he wasn't there.
"Kurapika?"
You walked around the small living room, confused. He said he would be waiting for you. You turned around to check the kitchen. You froze in place as soon as you saw Kurapika lying face down on the floor. Your heart pounded inside of your chest. The sound echoed in your ears.
Adrenaline flowed through your veins as you ran towards him.
"Kurapika!" you screamed. You were afraid to turn him over in case his neck was injured. You pressed your fingers against his carotid artery. His skin felt hot. You were relieved when you felt a pulse, but concerned as to why he felt feverish.
"Hold on, baby. I'll be right back," you said. You got up and ran to the apartment next door. You pounded on the door until someone opened it.
"(Y/N), why are you making such a racket?" Leorio asked while yawning.
"It's Kurapika! He's sick!"
"Kurapika?" he asked in shock. "Grab my medical bag!" he shouted while running to your apartment.
You grabbed Leorio's bag before running behind him.
Leorio carefully turned Kurapika onto his back. You gasped when you noticed the bruise on Kurapika's face.
"It might be easier for you if you don't watch," Leorio said.
"No way...I'm not leaving his side!"
"If you insist."
You watched as Leorio carefully picked Kurapika up. He walked him to the bedroom. You followed.
"What the hell happened?" Leorio asked while placing his friend on the bed.
"I don't know. I woke up and found him on the floor," you answered. You passed the medical bag to Leorio.
"Any idea how long he's been out?" Leorio opened his bag. He grabbed the necessary equipment to assess Kurapika.
"My guess would be an hour. Two at most. He wrote me a letter early this morning. I'm guessing that was around five and it's almost eight now."
"Hmm...he most likely passed out from this high grade fever," Leorio answered while showing you the thermometer.
"One hundred and five? Isn't that dangerous?" you asked.
Sweat formed on your forehead. Your heart rate increased. Leorio noticed your labored breathing. He got up to stop you from falling.
"Hey, (Y/N). This isn't the first time I've dealt with this. Unfortunately, your boyfriend likes to push himself to the limit." He wrapped his arms around you. "I'll fix him. I promise."
"Please...please help him."
"It's what I do," he said with a smile. "Now go and make me as many ice packs as you can."
"Right."
You ran back to the kitchen to make the ice packs for Leorio. After handing them to him, you stared at Kurapika. He is the strongest man you know, yet at this moment, he looks weak. It pained you to see him like this.
"Hey!" Leorio shouted, bringing you back to reality. "Get out of here. You shouldn't be watching this."
You hang your head while walking out of the room. You opened the French door that led to the balcony. You leaned against the railing. Gray clouds covered the sun. You looked down and watched as the people of the city went about their normal activities. Your mind drifted to last night. Kurapika finally confessed his love to you. You thought about the letter he wrote.
"How much life has Emperor Time taken away from my Kurapika?"
An hour passed. You felt arms wrapping around your shoulders. You quickly turned around.
"How is he?" you asked.
"Better. Want to see him?" Leorio answered.
"Yes!"
You ran to the bedroom. Kurapika's eyes were closed, but he looked better. You placed your hand on his cheek.
"Kurapika?"
Seconds later, Kurapika turned his head towards you.
"(Y/N)?" he asked. He opened his eyes.
"You're awake!" you shouted. Tears fell from your cheeks as you squeezed Kurapika's hand.
A soft smile formed on Kurapika's face. "You're still here?"
You gave Kurapika a confused look. "Of course I am. Why wouldn't I be?"
"Didn't you read my letter?"
"Yes."
"I thought you'd be gone by now."
"Did your fever damage your brain? Why would I leave you?"
"Because," he said. "You'll end up a widow."
"You don't know that. What if I die before you?"
Kurapika shook his head.
"No. You'll live a long life. This I'm certain of."
"Kurapika, I want to be with you. Whatever time we have left...I want to spend it all with you."
"My sweet (Y/N). You're a thief. You stole my heart. I'm so madly in love with you."
You reached down to kiss Kurapika. You both heard a knock coming from the doorway.
"Is it safe to come in?" Leorio asked.
"Of course!" you answered.
Leorio walked towards the both of you. "How is my patient feeling?"
"I feel great. Thank you, Leorio," Kurapika answered.
"You're the best doctor in the world! You performed a miracle!" you shouted.
"Ah, it was nothing," Leorio said, blushing.
Kurapika reached up to his friend. "In all seriousness...thank you. I'm in your debt."
Leorio shook Kurapika's hand. "Anytime."
"Leorio, will you do me a favor? There is a small box in my top drawer. Give it to (Y/N)."
"Sure," Leorio answered. He grabbed the box. "Here you go." He handed the box to you.
You stared at the small black box. "What's this?"
"(Y/N), forgive me. I have not prepared a speech. I'm just going to speak from my heart."
Kurapika winces in pain while sitting up in bed.
"Are you okay? Don't push yourself!" you said.
"I'm fine," Kurapika answered. He grabbed your hand. "(Y/N), when I look at you, I see my once in a lifetime. However long that may be...I want to spend it with you. You love me despite my flaws. I'm so grateful. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?"
You stared into Kurapika's longing eyes.
"Yes, Kurapika. Nothing would make me happier." Tears welled up in your eyes.
Kurapika took the box from your hand. He opened it to reveal a beautiful scarlet-colored engagement ring. He slid it on your ring finger. Leorio reached into his pocket for a handkerchief.
"You two are going to make me cry," Leorio said while dabbing his eyes with the handkerchief.
Kurapika pulled you close to his face. His lips fell on yours. He furrowed his brow while kissing you.
"I love you," he said while breaking away for a few seconds. He took your lips again. This time, deepening the kiss.
"Ahem," Leorio said.
You pulled away from Kurapika feeling flushed. The two of you started to laugh.
"Sorry, Leorio," said Kurapika.
"It's alright. I'm happy for you both." Leorio wrapped his arms around the two of you. "I'll give you two some privacy. Just remember to take it easy. No strenuous activities. Doctor's orders."
"I'll try to be compliant," Kurapika answered with a smile.
Leorio left the two of you alone. Kurapika tugged at the fabric of your top.
"You're still in your pajamas."
"Yes. It's been quite a morning."
"There's no need to change. Let's spend the day in bed," Kurapika said.
"You heard what Leorio said. Nothing strenuous."
"I guess that means you'll have to do all the work." Kurapika gave you a mischievous smile.
"I think I can do that," you said.
Kurapika pulled you on top of his lap. He unbuttoned your pajama top. "Damn. You're stunning."
"You're not so bad yourself," you said.
Kurapika's cheeks turned a deep shade of pink. He closed his eyes.
"Are you feeling okay?" you asked. You placed your hand on Kurapika's forehead. "You feel warm."
"Yes. Maybe we should listen to Leorio. We'll try again later."
"Of course. You rest. I'll stay right here next to you."
"I'd like that."
After making sure Kurapika took his medicine, you fluffed his pillow and covered him with a blanket.
"I love you, baby," you said.
"And I love you, my Heaven."
Kurapika slowly drifted off to sleep. As promised, you laid next to him. You combed his hair with your fingers as beautiful thoughts of your future flooded your mind.
