Kurapika lets go of Neon's hand as she spins her way out of the courthouse. The cherry blossom scented air of spring hits her face as a breeze blows by. Kurapika leans against the railing as he watches her dance, grinning from ear to ear.
Neon throws a bouquet of flowers in the air. "I'm the luckiest girl in the world!"
Kurapika walks toward Neon. He grabs her arm. "Mind if I join you, Mrs. Kurta?"
"Of course!"
Neon wraps her arms around Kurapika's neck as he grabs her waist. The newlyweds dance in front of the courthouse, oblivious to the world around them.
"I wish we had some music," Neon says.
Kurapika presses his lips against her ear. "You gave me the best of me so you'll give you the best of you so show me I'll show you," he sings.
Neon buries her face in Kurapika's shoulder. She sniffles. "I love you so much."
"And I love you." He presses his lips against hers. Not caring who is around to see, he kisses her passionately. He breaks away for air after a few minutes. "Let's go start our new life together."
An older lady witnesses them and smiles. "Want me to take a picture of the two of you?"
"Yes, how kind of you to ask," says Kurapika. He hands her his phone.
Kurapika holds Neon's waist while she rests her hands on his chest. They smile as the lady takes a few pictures of them.
"What a nice looking couple," she says as she returns Kurapika's phone. She stares at Neon's belly. "How far along are you?"
"Six months!" Neon places her hands on her baby belly.
"Boy or girl?"
"We don't know yet. We're keeping it a surprise."
"That's nice. Not many couples do that nowadays. Mind if I touch your belly?"
"Go right ahead," Neon answers, proudly.
The lady places a hand over Neon's belly. "May this tiny life grow without any complications."
As if accepting the lady's prayer, the baby Kurta kicks her hand with force.
"Oh my! That's a strong baby," she says.
"Thank you. Your words mean a lot to us," says Kurapika with a bow.
She bows before turning around to leave.
Kurapika takes Neon's hand and the two of them walk to the car. Much to Neon's dismay, they decided not to have an extravagant honeymoon. Kurapika explained how it would be smarter if they saved the money for the baby since he's working less.
Neon found a bed and breakfast that overlooked a field of cherry blossom trees.
The pleasant staff members greet them as soon as they walk in. The historic three-story building has a cozy vibe with its warm colors and vignettes. Kurapika and Neon walk up the stairs to their room on the third floor. He opens the French doors that lead to the balcony. Cherry blossom trees line either side of the building.
While Kurapika is outside, Neon is eyeing a small box that is sitting on top of the bed. She sits down and grabs it. When she opens it, a piece of paper falls out. She unfolds the paper and sees Kurapika's handwriting all over it. She begins to read it.
Dear Mrs. Neon Kurta,
I remember the first time I laid my eyes on you. I apologize that it wasn't love at first sight. It's not because I didn't find you beautiful. With a heart full of rage, I couldn't believe love even existed. However, over time, you awoke my heart and filled it with something words cannot describe.
I never want to leave your side for a mere moment. You hate that I am a hunter. I understand why. I couldn't imagine waiting up for nights at a time wondering where you're at or if you're safe. Trust me when I say I'm trying to find something a little safer. Not only do I have you to protect, but our child as well.
It's a little amusing how much you hate that I am a hunter. If not for my chosen occupation, we would have never met. I was hired to be your bodyguard and I took that job seriously.
Neon, I will always be your bodyguard. Nothing will ever harm you. Furthermore, I am also the guard of your heart. I'll never break it. That's a promise I stake my life on.
Thank you for showing me light during my darkest days. Thank you for making room in your heart for me. Over and above all else, thank you for guarding the tiny beating heart that we made.
I love you.
Your husband,
Kurapika
Tears fall on the letter in Neon's hand. She refolds it to place it back into the box. When she reaches for the box, she notices a locket resting inside. Gold adorned with scarlet jewels, it is the most beautiful piece of jewelry she has ever seen.
Kurapika walks back inside and notices Neon looking at the locket.
"You won't find a picture inside. I'm waiting for our baby to be born so you can have the two of us close to your heart at all times."
He sits down next to Neon. She throws her arms around his neck, causing him to fall back on the bed. She starts to leave kisses all over his face and neck. He lets out a laugh when she breathes against his ear. "I'm honored to be the one who gets to guard Baby Kurta's tiny heart."
"I couldn't think of a better person for the job," Kurapika says, running his fingers through her hair.
She stares into his eyes. They start to change to a deep crimson color.
Neon gasps. "You took out your contacts!"
"There's no need for me to wear them while we're here. Besides, I know how much you love my scarlet eyes."
She traces the corners of his eyes with her fingertips. "They're so pretty. Will our baby have scarlet eyes?"
"It's possible. Granted, he or she would have a better life without them."
"I hope he looks just like you," Neon says.
"He?"
"I feel like we're going to have a boy." Neon climbs off of Kurapika and rolls onto her back.
"A boy, huh?" Kurapika stares at the ceiling. "A future hunter?"
"No way! Not my son."
Kurapika laughs. Neon struggles to sit up in bed. "I'm going to change into something a little more comfortable." She climbs out of bed and wobbles to the bathroom.
Minutes later, she emerges wearing a sheer white slip. Her hair is a blue river that cascades down her back. Kurapika's eyes widen as she walks toward him. He sits up in the bed, hanging his legs over the edge.
"Neon...you look...gorgeous."
"Thank you, Mr. Kurta."
Kurapika pulls her onto his lap. He brushes her hair to the side with his fingertips, exposing her neck. He leaves gentle kisses on her neck, pulling her strap down.
She starts to breathe heavily as Kurapika traces his fingers down her arm. The warmth of his touch lingers on her skin. She pulls herself closer to him, resting her head on his shoulder.
Seconds later, Kurapika hears Neon sniffling. He pulls away to look at her. "What's wrong, my angel?"
Neon's eyes are wet. "I...I'm huge."
"What are you talking about?" He wipes her tears away with his thumb.
She looks down at her belly. "I'm not sexy anymore."
He lifts her chin. "Hey. I don't ever want to hear you say those words again. Do you hear me?"
She continues to sob. "But..."
"Do you want the truth?" Kurapika interrupts. "You are more attractive now than when we first met."
Neon looks away. "You're just saying that to make me feel better."
"I'd never lie to you," Kurapika says with a serious expression on his face.
Neon glances back at him. "So...you still want to have sex with me?"
Kurapika doesn't answer. Instead, he grabs Neon and lays her on the bed. She watches as he pulls at his tie. He slides it from his collar and allows it to fall on the floor. Nothing turns her on more than watching him take off his tie.
He pulls down her slip and panties before positioning her on her side. He scrambles out of his suit before laying down next to her. He pulls her body close to his, her back against his chest. He reaches over and places his fingers on her clit, massaging her in a circular motion. Once he can tell she's ready, he presses himself inside of her from behind.
Soft moans escape Neon's lips as Kurapika picks up the pace. He continues to massage her clit while thrusting himself in and out of her.
Seconds later, her moans turn into screams as Kurapika finds her sweet spot. Sweat drops form on his forehead as he tries his best to keep up the pace.
Neon's body starts to convulse as she pushes back to meet Kurapika's thrusts. She experiences a euphoric feeling throughout her entire body.
Kurapika runs his hand up and down Neon's body until her breathing normalizes. He presses himself back into Neon and seconds later, it's his turn to experience euphoria. Deep moans escape his lips as he grips onto Neon.
He pulls out and turns onto his back, panting. "That...was...by far...the...best."
Neon turns around to face Kurapika. "It was for me, too!"
His lips curve upwards as he notices the pure delight in Neon's eyes. "It's because we're married."
"You're right! You're my husband now." She throws herself on top of Kurapika.
He lets out a laugh. "What? Did you forget already?"
"Of course not. I just like hearing it," she answers, inhaling the scent of his neck.
She pushes herself off of Kurapika. She places her hand on her belly. "I haven't felt him kick in a while."
Kurapika rests his head on his elbow. "We probably rocked him to sleep."
"You're right." Neon stretches her arms and yawns. "I'm feeling a little sleepy myself."
"Why don't you take a nap? I have a nice dinner planned for us later," Kurapika says.
"Will you take a nap with me?"
"Of course." Kurapika pulls down the covers. "Hop in. I'll hold you."
They both fall asleep in each other's arms.
After a lovely honeymoon, they arrive back home.
Kurapika leans against the kitchen counter as he stares at his phone. He smiles as he reads through all the texts from his friends congratulating him on the wedding.
His smile fades when he notices there isn't a text from (Y/N). He hasn't heard from her since the night she walked out of his room.
Neon prances into the kitchen. "What's with the sad face?"
Kurapika puts his phone back into his pocket. "Nothing. Just reading through all the texts and emails I missed during our honeymoon."
She opens the refrigerator and grabs a green tea. "Oh, have you heard back about the new job you applied for?"
"Yes. It's mine if I want it."
Neon takes a sip of her tea. "What kind of job is it anyway? You never told me."
Kurapika pushes himself off the counter. "You never asked." He walks to the kitchen island where Neon is standing. "It's a management position. Basically, I'll be giving jobs to other hunters."
Neon's face brightens. "So you won't be doing the actual hunting?"
Kurapika shakes his head. "No. I must admit though...it's a little saddening."
"What is?"
"Well, I actually enjoy hunting. I think I'll miss that part of my job."
Neon shrugs her shoulders. "Oh, well. You have us now." She pats her belly.
Kurapika reaches down and kisses her belly. "You're right. The two of you are my priority."
They are interrupted by the sound of their doorbell.
"Expecting anyone?" Neon asks.
"No," he answers as he walks to the front door.
He opens the door and notices a large box sitting on the porch. "Neon, did you order anything?"
Neon meets Kurapika by the front door. "Nope."
Kurapika pulls the box inside. Neon gasps as soon as she sees the picture on the box.
"It's a crib! And it's just the one I wanted!" She kneels to get a better view of it.
Kurapika looks for a return address. "Who's it from?"
Neon doesn't answer. She's busy admiring the picture on the box.
Kurapika finds a card attached to the box and opens it.
To: Mr. and Mrs. Kurta
I know a crib isn't a traditional wedding present, but I figured you'd get more use out of it than a toaster.
Anyway, I wish you a lifetime of love and happiness.
From: (Y/N)
Kurapika's eyes widen. "It's from (Y/N)."
Neon scowls as she pushes the box away with her foot. "Get it out of here. It's ugly."
Kurapika gives her a puzzled look. "What? Just a second ago you said it was the one you wanted."
"Well, I changed my mind. Please get it out of my house."
"Do I get a say in this? You know...since I'm the father?"
Neon gets back up. She crosses her arms. "You actually want to put your baby in that thing?"
Within seconds, Neon is gone. Kurapika is left alone, thinking about the last few minutes of his life. He places the box back out on the porch to please Neon before searching for her.
The sound of her sobs makes it easy for Kurapika to find her. She's sitting on the rocking chair in the room they're planning to use for the nursery. Besides the rocking chair, the room is empty.
Kurapika enters the room. He's read half a dozen books on pregnancy so he is well aware of the crying spells that are likely to occur. However, he can't help but think Neon's current mood is because of (Y/N)'s gift.
He leans up against the wall and crosses his arms. "What's wrong now, my angel?" he asks, keeping his voice calm.
Neon doesn't answer so he is forced to walk over to her. He kneels in front of the chair. "Neon?"
She wipes her nose. "Look at this room. We don't have anything for the baby." She extends her arm to show Kurapika the lack of items in the room, as if he doesn't know. "And...nobody is going to throw me a baby shower."
Kurapika holds one of her hands. He forces himself not to bring up the crib. "I told you I'd take care of everything. I'll even paint the room. Just pick the color."
"I know...it's just not the same. I don't have friends anymore." She hangs her head.
Kurapika looks away. He remembers all the times (Y/N) and Alluka have tried to be friends with her.
He bites his tongue before speaking. "You have me. I'm your best friend. I'll throw you a shower if that will bring a smile to your face."
"No. It's not the same."
Kurapika releases her hand and stands up. He looks around the empty room. "Well, we should start getting this nursery ready. You are about to enter your third trimester."
Neon looks up at Kurapika. Her expression changes in an instant. "Yay! Let's go shopping!"
Kurapika takes a step back. "Uh...now?"
"Why not? It's still early."
"We just got back from our honeymoon. I have yet to bring in all our bags from the car."
Neon supports her belly as she rocks herself out of the chair. "Well, you better get them out. We need to make room for all the baby stuff."
With that, Neon leaves the room. Kurapika sighs. He tries to blame her behavior on the pregnancy; however, he knows deep inside that is just her personality.
She's finally feeling more like herself. The first two trimesters were rough. She felt sick all the time which is why they waited so long to get married. He had to leave his job to stay with her full-time.
He worried the baby wasn't getting proper nutrition. Those worries are long gone now since Neon eats everything in sight.
Kurapika sets all of their shopping bags on chairs at the food court. He wipes his brow as he looks at their food options. Neon happily looks through her new treasures for the baby.
"What do you feel like eating?" Kurapika asks.
"Umm...whatever," Neon answers, not looking up.
"No. Last time you said whatever, you refused to eat what I brought you. Please decide."
Neon looks up to look at her options. "A katsu bento box, please."
"Chicken or pork?"
"Pork. Oh, make sure the sushi doesn't have any raw fish in it. It's not good for the baby."
"I'm well aware of that," Kurapika says.
He waits in line for the bento boxes.
"Kurapika?"
He turns around. "(Y/N)?"
"Oh my goodness! You look great. I mean...marriage must be treating you well. When did you get back from your honeymoon?" (Y/N) cuts in line to be closer to Kurapika.
"Today, actually." Kurapika can't help but smile when he sees his friend.
"Where's the bride?" (Y/N) looks around for Neon.
Kurapika motions toward Neon's direction. She's still looking through her bags. Her back is facing them.
"Wow, she doesn't look pregnant from behind," (Y/N) says.
"No, she has the most adorable baby belly."
They both order their food. (Y/N) pulls out her wallet. Kurapika stops her. "No...it's on me. It's the least I can do. We received your extravagant gift today."
They move over to wait for their food.
"Did you like it?"
"I did...however..." Kurapika looks down.
"Neon hated it, didn't she?"
Kurapika nods. "I'm sorry, (Y/N). Neon has her own vision for the nursery."
"It's fine, Kurapika. Just send it back."
"Thank you for understanding."
They take their food from the counter.
"Join us," Kurapika says.
(Y/N) raises an eyebrow. "You sure?"
"Of course."
Kurapika sets down the tray of food in front of Neon, who is now sitting. "Yummy!" she says, opening her chopsticks.
"Look who I found," says Kurapika, taking the bentos off of the tray.
Neon looks like she bit into a rotten apple. "What are you doing here? Coming to apologize?"
Kurapika stares at Neon as if he's trying to get her to read his mind. "No, we just ran into each other.
"Hmph," Neon says, returning her attention back to her food.
(Y/N) grips her tray. "I actually wanted to congratulate you."
Neon swallows her gyoza before responding. "For marrying the sexiest man alive? You can stop chasing after him now." She shows (Y/N) the rock on her left ring finger.
(Y/N)'s tray shakes as she tightens her grip. "No. I was actually congratulating you on keeping Kurapika alive for this long."
Neon throws her chopsticks down on the table. She pushes her seat back to stand up.
Kurapika places his arm in front of her.
(Y/N) turns to leave. "I wish you the best of luck, Kurapika. In a few months, you'll have two babies to watch over."
Kurapika swallows hard as he watches (Y/N) leave. He pulls his arm back from Neon. Without saying a word, he sits down across from her. He opens his chopsticks and begins to eat.
Neon breaks the silence. "Why did you bring her here?"
"I honestly don't know. I guess I figured you might find it in your heart to get along with my friends."
"(Y/N) is not your friend, Kurapika."
Kurapika takes a deep breath. "Neon, may I remind you that you are no longer my boss?"
Neon pulls her eyebrows close together. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"It means...you can't make decisions for me. I am allowed to choose my friends." Kurapika answers, voice stern.
Neon's cheeks turn red. "How can you still want to be friends with her after the way she treated me?"
"Neon, please lower your voice."
Neon's heart rate increases as she attempts to stay calm. Kurapika reaches over the table and takes her hands into his. She pulls away. She stands up from her seat and runs away.
Kurapika runs his hands through his hair. After throwing away the leftover food, he grabs the shopping bags and loads them in his car. He walks back inside the mall to the nearest directory. He raises his right hand as he conjures his chains. "Dowsing Chain," he says, lifting his ring finger. He allows his chain to show him Neon's location.
He walks to the department store dressing room where Neon is hiding. He stands in front of the door, listening to her cry. "Neon?"
"Go away." She pulls her knees to her chest.
Kurapika crawls under the door.
"I told you to go away," Neon says.
"Please talk to me. I'm your husband. I can't fix something if I don't know it's broken."
Neon buries her face in her knees. Kurapika wraps his arm around her. "Are you going to tell me why my friendship with (Y/N) bothers you so much?"
"You honestly don't know?"
Kurapika shakes his head.
"She insulted me right in front of you. That night you were recovering from your injury. Don't you remember?"
Kurapika holds his chin. "To be honest, most of that night is a blur."
Neon goes over her version of that night with Kurapika.
"Now I understand." He offers Neon a soft smile. "See? That's why communication is important." He brushes her cheek with his chain-covered fingers. "Let's go home."
The next three months pass by. The nursery is complete and Kurapika and Neon are ready to meet their baby Kurta.
Kurapika has been on his phone all morning, tracking a hurricane that is heading straight to them. He's been good at keeping the details from Neon so as to not scare her.
She looks out the window from where she is sitting on the couch. "It's so dark and windy out."
Kurapika puts his phone down and walks over to her. He places his hands on her belly. "When is our due date?"
She places her hands over his. "It was yesterday, silly."
"Dammit," he says under his breath.
Later that night, the sound of branches beating against the house wakes Neon up. She crawls out of bed. "Ouch, this hurts," she says as she wobbles to the bathroom.
She flushes the toilet and as she washes her hands, she feels a gush of liquid pour down her legs. "But...I just used the bathroom," she says to herself.
She sits back down on the toilet. More liquid pours out of her.
When she thinks she is finished, she walks back to the bed. "Kurapika?" she whispers. She lightly taps his shoulder.
He turns around and sees the worried expression on his wife's face. Her features are illuminated by the bathroom light behind her.
He doesn't have to ask her what's wrong. Her face tells him everything. He hops out of bed and runs to the front door. Strong winds and rain threaten him to close the door.
He sighs before walking back to the room for his phone.
He throws his phone on the floor after ending his call.
Neon watches him with a puzzled expression on her face. "What's wrong?"
"The ambulance won't come. The winds are too strong."
Neon falls to her knees. She grips the carpet beneath her as she screams. Sweat drops form on her forehead as she takes rapid shallow breaths.
Kurapika runs to her and kneels. "Was that a contraction?"
Still panting, Neon nods her head. She gets into a sitting position with her knees up.
"Okay. Looks like we're having a baby here," Kurapika says as he runs his fingers through Neon's hair.
"What? No! I need my doctor...you don't know how to deliver a baby."
"I read enough in your books. Have faith in me." Kurapika places one arm under her knees and the other behind her back.
"Don't move me!"
"I'm taking you to the bed where you'll be more comfortable," he says.
"No! It hurts to move."
Kurapika releases her and grabs all the pillows from their bed. He places them around her.
"Squeeze this when you feel another contraction," he says as he holds out one of her mochi plushies.
She bites it as another wave of pain rips through her uterus.
Four hours pass and Kurapika feels defeated. He's been placing cold washcloths over Neon's forehead and trying to distract her from the pain. The lights flicker on and off as the winds outside gain strength.
He's been timing her contractions. They are now two minutes apart.
"Kurapika...I can't...I can't do this anymore," she says to him with tear-filled eyes.
"You're doing great...just a little longer."
Kurapika kisses her forehead before standing to make a phone call.
"Kurapika?" Leorio answers.
"Leorio...please...we need your help. Neon is in labor and we're stuck at home. Any advice would be appreciated," Kurapika explains.
"Wait...she is? Great timing."
"Tell me about it. Anyway...what should I do?"
"Right...how far apart are her contractions?"
"Two minutes."
"Damn...okay...have you checked her cervix?" Leorio asks.
"Wait...what? I don't know how to do that."
Kurapika doesn't hear anything from Leorio's end for a few seconds.
"Kurapika...my wifi is about to go out...just make sure to..."
"What? Make sure to what?"
There's no answer.
"Dammit!" Kurapika walks out of the room. He kneels in the middle of the living room. He clasps his hands together and hangs his head. "Please...I know I don't do this as often as I should...but Neon needs your help. I pray you give her the strength she needs to deliver our baby." Tears form in his eyes as he hears Neon screaming in the room. "I've never felt so helpless in my life."
He lifts his head when he hears a knock on the door. He stares at it in disbelief before standing up to answer it.
"It must be the wind," he says to himself as he looks through the peephole.
"Open the door!" shouts the person on the other side of the door.
Kurapika unlocks the door and opens it. "(Y/N)? What are you doing here? Wait...how did you get here?"
"I heard Neon is in labor and don't ask me how I got here. Where is she?" (Y/N) unzips her medical bag as she looks up at Kurapika.
Kurapika points to where the screaming is coming from. (Y/N) nods before walking into the room. She is taken aback. Neon is laying on the floor surrounded by a variety of ripped mochi plushies.
Neon's bloodshot eyes widen when she sees (Y/N) standing in front of her.
"Kurapika! What is she doing here?"
"Neon, calm down. I'm here to help you deliver this baby," (Y/N) says as she sits on her knees. She grabs a pair of sterile gloves from her bag and slaps one on her right hand. She opens Neon's legs with her left hand.
"Don't touch me!" Neon pulls herself back.
Kurapika sits next to Neon and presses his lips against her sweaty temple. "(Y/N) is a medical student. She came out in this terrible storm to help us. Please...accept her help. I love you and I want what's best for our baby."
"Are you sure she knows what she's doing?"
"She knows more than me."
Neon turns her attention to (Y/N). "O...okay."
"I need you to relax. Kurapika, try to distract her." (Y/N) instructs them.
Neon screams as she feels the pain of another contraction. Kurapika offers her his hand to squeeze.
"That's almost ninety seconds. She's close," (Y/N) says.
Neon throws her head back.
"Neon, you're going to feel me touch you now." (Y/N) positions herself in between Neon's legs.
"I don't care...I just want him out of me already!"
(Y/N) inserts two fingers into Neon's cervix. "Does he have a name?"
"Yes...Kurapika," Neon answers.
"Okay...well, I can feel Kurapika's head."
Kurapika's eyes widen in excitement as he focuses his attention on (Y/N). "Seriously?"
Neon lets out another scream. "I need to push...but it burns too much!"
(Y/N) stares at Neon. "Listen to me...you're going to push with the next contraction. And stop all that screaming. You're only wasting energy."
The lights flicker on and off again. Kurapika has already collected every flashlight in the house in case they needed them. (Y/N) grabs a towel from the stack he left next to Neon.
"Your contraction should be starting any second now. Remember...push," (Y/N) instructs.
Neon pushes with every contraction for the next twenty minutes. "I want to give up," she says.
"Well, you don't have a choice. I'm holding his head. He has blonde hair like his father," (Y/N) says.
"Really?" Kurapika asks, desperately wanting to see.
"Yes, come here."
Kurapika pulls away from Neon to look at the baby's head. The tears he has been holding in all night threaten to fall as he stares at his baby. He returns to Neon's side as she begins to push again. A minute later, they hear the sound of their baby cry for the first time.
(Y/N) clamps the cord and wipes the baby down with a towel. "I don't know if you still want to stick with the name Kurapika."
Kurapika crinkles his forehead. "Why?"
"Because it's a girl," (Y/N) answers, showing the baby to Kurapika. "Born at four forty-four."
(Y/N) shows Kurapika where to cut the cord before she hands her to Neon. The tears finally fall down his cheeks as he watches his wife hold their baby. He is overcome with emotion. Relieved that his baby is safe, he takes a deep breath as he reaches over to touch his newborn.
"A daughter? I have a daughter?" Kurapika asks, allowing his tears to fall.
(Y/N) has never seen Kurapika cry before. She watches the new Kurta family as she finishes with Neon. She cleans up the mess before standing to leave.
"I'll give you three some privacy," (Y/N) says before she leaves the room.
Neon and Kurapika don't hear her leave. They are too focused on their tiny miracle. They count her fingers and toes and begin to compare features.
"She definitely has your eyes," Kurapika says.
"How can you tell? They're so swollen." Neon laughs.
(Y/N) closes the door behind her. Feeling the adrenaline leave her veins, she slides down the door and allows herself to cry. She feels happy for Kurapika, but she can't get over the fact that she still has feelings for him. The way he looked at Neon with such concern while she was in labor reminded (Y/N) that his heart belongs to someone else.
Thirty minutes pass and (Y/N) composes herself before walking back in the room to check on the baby.
Neon's face brightens when she sees (Y/N). "(Y/N)! Come here! I think she's hungry. Can you help us?"
"Of course," (Y/N) answers as she walks toward Neon. "Maybe you should move to the bed. It will make feeding her easier."
Kurapika smiles. "I tried to convince her, but she's afraid to stand up."
(Y/N) holds her arms out. "Give me the baby. Kurapika, help Neon walk to the bed."
As soon as Kurapika hands (Y/N) his baby, she turns away. Tears fall down her cheeks as she stares at the tiny newborn. Her heart fills with warmth. "She's beyond beautiful. You two did a great job."
"Thank you," Kurapika says. He settles Neon in bed.
(Y/N) positions the baby close to Neon's chest. Neon's eyes widen in excitement when the baby latches on.
"Kurapika, look! She's eating!" Neon shouts.
"That's the most beautiful sight I've ever seen," he says. He kisses Neon on her head.
Neon takes her eyes off of her baby to look at (Y/N). "(Y/N), I want to thank you. I honestly don't think Kurapika could have done what you just did." She giggles. "Also, do you think we can be friends?"
(Y/N)'s jaw drops. "Uh...of course. I'd like that."
The baby unlatches and falls asleep. Neon yawns. "I'm exhausted."
"You did have a pretty eventful night," Kurapika says with a laugh. "I'll watch over our little one while you get some sleep."
Neon falls asleep before Kurapika finishes his sentence. He takes his baby and gives Neon a kiss.
(Y/N) follows Kurapika to the nursery. "Do you need help with anything?"
He pulls a tabard out of the drawer. "I'd like to give her a bath. She's so tiny...I'm afraid to do it alone."
"I'd love to help!"
(Y/N) looks out the window while Kurapika gather's the baby's bath supplies. "It looks like the worst is over."
"Yes. I don't know what it looks like outside, but we are fortunate to have power."
"Heaven was watching over you," says (Y/N).
Kurapika turns on the faucet to the kitchen sink and waits for the water to warm up. He wraps the baby in a towel and stares at her. "I don't know what to do next."
(Y/N) smiles as she walks closer to him. She picks the baby up. "I've never given a baby a bath before, but I've seen the nurses do it during my OB rotation. They start with the hair. From there, they clean each area separately while keeping the baby warm." She starts to wash the baby's golden hair. The baby starts to cry. "Already dramatic...just like your mother."
Kurapika laughs. "You're a natural at this. Are you sure you don't want to change your specialty and work with the babies?"
"I don't know. Maybe." She continues to wash the baby, pretending she belongs to her. "Have you two named her yet?"
Kurapika shakes his head. "No. Neon was convinced we were having a boy."
"Does she think she's still a psychic?"
"No. She does miss her ability though."
(Y/N) dries the baby. She smiles as she watches Kurapika struggle to pull the tabard over his tiny daughter.
"She looks beautiful...just like a Kurta," (Y/N) says.
"Thank you. I can't believe I have her. Now there's two of us."
He manages to swaddle her. He picks her up and lays her on his chest, inhaling her sweet scent.
"Speaking of psychic abilities, how did you know Neon was in labor?"
"Oh, let's just say I had a premonition of my own," (Y/N) answers.
"That must have been a strong premonition if it sent you here during a storm."
They walk to the living room and sit on the couch. Kurapika cradles his daughter. "(Y/N), we are eternally grateful for you. Neon is right...I couldn't have done what you did."
"You're my friend, Kurapika. And, surprisingly, so is Neon."
Kurapika begins to nod off. (Y/N) stands up to take the baby from his arms. She covers him with a throw before taking the baby to the nursery. She sits in the rocking chair and sings a lullaby to the baby Kurta.
"I never knew love like this existed. You precious little girl...you don't even belong to me. However, you changed my perspective on life. I love you," (Y/N) says, placing the baby on her chest.
