These four gray walls welcome me every morning when I wake up. At least, I think it's morning. With no windows, it's hard to tell. Wait...I don't hear any screaming. It must be morning. The screams are usually heard at night. The screams of the other lost souls.
I sit up on my futon. My mind is numb. I can't seem to remember how I ended up here. I close my eyes, taking in a deep breath. The musty smell of this place fills my nose. I take in another breath, trying to take stock of how I'm feeling. I attempt to conjure my chains, but it appears this room is enclosed by Zetsu. My stomach growls, reminding me it's been a while since I had a meal. My bladder screams at me. I open my eyes again. I don't see a lavatory anywhere. Am I in hell?
A knock at the door interrupts my thoughts. I stand up to my feet and walk toward the locked door. I look down at the dark gray gown that is wrapped around my body. Why am I dressed like this? A small window opens. A woman dressed in white stands on the other side of the door.
"Good morning, Kurapika. I have your breakfast and morning medications."
"Medications? Why do I need medications?"
She shakes her head. "We go through this every morning. We are trying to help you."
"Help me? I'm locked inside of a box without a place to relieve myself. How is that helping me?"
I hear her unlock the door. "Do you need to use the restroom? Follow me."
I follow her down the hallway. Everyone who makes eye contact with me gives me a look of sadness. I notice she's still behind me when I enter the restroom.
"Uh...can you give me privacy?"
"I can't. I must watch every move you make," she says, voice monotone.
My eyes widen. "But...I...ugh." I don't bother to argue with her. My bladder is too full.
When I return to my room, she forces me to swallow some pills before giving me my breakfast.
"No chopsticks?" I ask her.
"No. We can't give you anything that you can use to harm yourself. You already know this."
I furrow my brow. "If I already knew, then why would I be asking?" I place the plastic bowl on the floor.
She doesn't answer my question.
"What were those pills for?" I ask her.
She looks annoyed with me.
I hear a familiar voice. "I'll take it from here."
A look of relief washes over her face. "Good morning, Dr. Paradinight! Thank you. He's all yours."
She walks away, leaving me alone with my friend.
"Leorio?"
"Hey, buddy. Wanna go outside?"
I look around my room. "Yes, please. Get me out of here."
Leorio takes me to a picnic table outside. I look around, taking in my surroundings. I can't remember the last time I saw the sun.
I sit down and watch as he takes a seat in front of me.
"Please tell me you're here to free me," I say, almost begging.
Leorio closes his eyes. "I'm afraid not."
"But...why?"
He opens his eyes and stares into mine. "Do you think you're ready?"
I give him a confused look. "What do you mean? I don't even know why I'm here."
He adjusts his glasses. "I can tell they're overmedicating you. I'm going to have a talk with the doctor before I leave."
"Before you leave? Wait...you're not taking me with you?"
"Not until I know you're no longer a threat to yourself," he answers me with a serious expression on his face.
I jump back in my seat. "A threat to myself? Wait a minute...am I here because of you?"
He looks away.
"Leorio! Answer me." I pound my fists on the wooden table.
He stands up. "C'mon. It's time to head back."
I cross my arms. "No. I refuse."
Leorio rolls his eyes in annoyance. "Kurapika, you can't refuse. Stop making this difficult."
I ignore him. Seconds later, he grabs me and throws me over his shoulder. I'm too weak to fight him.
We enter the building. He puts me back down when we reach my room. He looks at me with tear-filled eyes as he closes the door, locking me back inside.
I place my ear against the door, attempting to hear what he is saying to the staff.
"I know he's difficult, but please...take good care of him. He's my best friend and he means the world to me. I'm paying good money for him to be here," Leorio says.
I hear his footsteps as he walks away, leaving me alone.
I look down at the breakfast I abandoned earlier. I pick up the bowl of cold rice and eggs and slam it on the floor.
I crawl on the cold floor back to my futon. I pull my knees to my chest, staring at my bare feet. I try my hardest to remember what brought me here. I rock back and forth.
"My name is Kurapika and I'm a hunter. My entire clan was annihilated by the Phantom Troupe. My mission is to retrieve the scarlet eyes of my people." I place my hand on my heart. "Is my rage gone? If so, then I don't have a reason to live."
The room starts to spin as I concentrate. I don't know if it's from focusing too hard or the poison they are giving me here. I fall back on the futon. I can hear my own heartbeat in my ears.
"I...I was in love before." I close my eyes. "With...you."
Eighteen months earlier
I stare at my brethren's scarlet eyes in front of me. Rage fills my heart as I hear the anguished screams of their darkened eyes.
I hold my phone, ignoring my best friend's call. I'm not in the mood to talk to anyone. I need to feel this moment. I need to feel the hatred and pain.
Hours later, I gather up my clan's eyes and walk to the church lobby. That's where I see you. You're standing behind a desk, dressed in a black skirt and blazer.
Our eyes meet.
"Oh...hello, Mr. Kurta. Are you leaving for the day?" you ask me.
"Please...call me Kurapika. And yes. I'm leaving. I'll be back tomorrow. Will the chapel still be available?"
I can see sadness in your eyes. "Of course." You look down. "I'm sorry for your loss."
I wave my hand. "Please...I'm not looking for pity."
I can't stand pity from others.
You change your expression. You offer me a soft smile. "I guess I'll see you tomorrow."
"Yes. I'm sorry...what's your name?"
"It's (Y/N). I'm the new funeral director."
"Right. It's nice to meet you, (Y/N). Were you the one who left me the beautiful flowers?"
You blush. "Y...yes. I hope you liked them."
"That was very thoughtful of you. My mother loved hydrangeas."
I stare at you while you bite your lip. It looks like you are searching for the right words to say. You blush again. Perhaps my gaze is making you uncomfortable. I try to focus my eyes on something else, but you're just so...beautiful. I've never seen a woman so breathtaking before. I shouldn't be feeling like this right now...I'm still mourning my clan.
You reach for a card. You write down some numbers and hand it to me.
"Here's my personal cell phone number. Please call me if you need anything."
"Thank you," I say while putting the card into my pocket. "You've shown me nothing but kindness."
We stare at each other for a few seconds. I don't know what overcomes me, but I walk behind the desk where you're standing and wrap my arms around your waist. You gasp before I reach down and press my lips against yours. You part your lips, inviting me in. My tongue touches yours and I feel your knees shake. I pick you up, gently placing you on the desk. I grab the back of your head, deepening our kiss.
What am I doing? We just met; however, I feel this uncontrollable urge to make you mine. Moments ago, I was consumed with rage. Now, as I kiss you, I feel nothing but lust.
We finally pull away from each other, desperately needing air.
"I...I'm so sorry. Please...forgive me," I say.
You bite your lip again. Why do I find that simple act so mesmerizing?
"Please...don't apologize."
I come back to reality. Dammit...we're in a church! And she's at work. I place the palm of my hand against my forehead.
"This is inappropriate. I hope I don't get you in trouble."
"No...don't worry. I'm actually finished for the day."
I pick you up from the desk and gently place you back on your feet. I bow to you. "I'll see you tomorrow."
"Are you going home?"
I think about your question for a moment before answering. "No. I don't have a home."
You tilt your head to the side. "Then where are you going?"
I shrug my shoulders. "I will find a place to stay."
"I don't live far. Why don't you stay with me?"
"Uh...you don't know me. A beautiful woman such as you shouldn't invite strangers into your home."
You let out a laugh. "You're not a stranger to me. I mean...just seconds ago you had your tongue down my throat."
I feel the heat rise to my cheeks. "Uh...I guess you're right." I shift my weight from side to side. "I just want you to know...I'm normally not like this."
"Please...I'm not like this either. I don't want you to think I invite random guys to my apartment. I just find you...captivating."
What is it about me that you find captivating? I hope to find the answer in the near future.
A month goes by and we spend every free moment together. You keep inviting me to stay with you.
"Fine. I'll stay with you. I suddenly feel this strong urge to protect you." I pick up my bags containing my brethren's eyes. "I just need to secure these first."
"I'll join you," you say with a smile.
Damn. Your smile. Your entire face brightens. If I died right now, I'd be happy just because of your smile.
Later that evening, we arrive at your apartment. I take my shoes off as soon as I enter the foyer. It's quaint and inviting.
"Where should I leave my bag?"
You grab my arm and lead me to your bedroom. "You can leave it here."
I drop my bag on the floor. We stand and just stare at each other for the next few seconds. My heart rate accelerates as you hold your elbow. You have your lips parted like you're waiting for me to make a move.
I reach down and plant a kiss on your head, inhaling your scent. You smell like cherry blossoms.
You wrap your arms around me. "Tell me something I don't know about you, Kurapika."
I tell you my story. You tighten your grip on me.
"That's terrible," you say, tears falling down your cheeks.
I comb your hair with my fingers. "Hey, don't feel sad for me."
You sniffle your nose. "That's the saddest story I've ever heard. And trust me, as a funeral director, I've heard many."
"Tell me, (Y/N). What made you become a funeral director?"
You wipe your tears away with the back of your hand. "I always knew I wanted to help people. I love the feeling of holding someone's hand and helping them through one of the most difficult times in their life."
Hearing your answer sends an electric shock down my spine. I feel like I've known you my entire life. Not only are you absolutely stunning, you're the most noble and kind woman I've ever met.
You release me and walk backwards to your bed. You sit down, parting your legs. I swallow hard before walking toward you. You stare at me with wanting eyes.
You smile at me and I completely lose all control. I lay you back and kiss your lips. They're buttery soft and melt into mine.
I pull away. We're connected by a string of saliva. I slowly unbutton your blazer. You pull it off and begin to unbutton my suit jacket. I can tell you want me as much as I want you. I don't understand why...I'm not a perfect person. I have many faults.
You're wearing a white blouse underneath your blazer. My eyes fall on your cleavage. I kiss in between your breasts. I can smell the lovely scent of your perfume. I kiss your neck while I unbutton your blouse. Dammit...your bra is in the way. You sense my frustration and reach behind your back to unclasp it. I gasp as soon as you free your breasts. They're perfect. I take one in my mouth as I gently cup your other one with my hand. I switch sides. You're grinding against me.
"Kurapika," you say.
I love the way my name sounds coming from your lips. Your voice is so...angelic.
I find the zipper on your skirt. I unzip it and pull it down along with your panties. I stand above you at the end of the bed. Your body is quivering. I spread your legs and stare at your most intimate part. Pearl white fluid trickles out of your entrance. I need to taste it before it falls on the bed.
I stand on my knees. Your bed is the perfect height for what I'm about to do. I pull your hips a little closer to my face. I want to start slow, but I need to taste you. I place my tongue at the bottom of your opening and slowly lick all the way to your clit. It's everything I imagined it would be. You taste so good...I need more. I press my tongue harder against you, licking every trace of fluid. I dip my tongue inside of you. You let out a moan as I devour you.
I feel my erection growing inside my pants as I imagine myself deep inside of you. I just can't stop drinking you up.
I briefly take my eyes off your womanhood to look at you. You're gripping the sheets, moaning louder. To my delight, more fluid is gushing out of you. I lick you clean as you recover from your orgasm.
I climb on top of you. I part your lips with my tongue, forcing you to taste yourself.
You unbutton my shirt as I kiss you. I briefly pull away to take my shirt off and throw it on the floor. You run your hands up and down my chest before reaching down to unbuckle my belt.
I grab your wrists to stop you.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" I whisper in your ear.
You look at me with confusion in your eyes. "Of course. I want nothing more."
I stand up and my eyes fall on my bag on the floor. I remember Leorio throwing a condom in there as a gag gift. I walk over to search my bag for it. I let out a breath of relief when I find it, thanking him in my head.
I walk back to your bed. You watch as I finish undressing myself. I crawl into the bed, positioning myself on top of you. You part your legs, allowing me access. We stare at each other for a few seconds before I push myself inside of you. I close my eyes, moaning as your warmth envelopes me.
I slowly pull back before sliding into you again. Damn...I've never felt anything so good before. I open my eyes to watch you. Your facial expressions tell me you're feeling the same way I do.
I pick up the pace, plunging deeper inside of you. You call out my name again, begging me to give you more.
I oblige, thrusting in and out of you as hard as I can without breaking you. I guess you're not as fragile as I thought.
I'm getting greedy now. If I don't stop, I'm going to finish. It's just too damn good. I need to be patient and wait for you. Ugh...it's absolute torture, but I'm loving every second of it.
Seconds later, I feel your walls contract around me. Your moans become screams as you reach your climax. Your body shudders against mine as you dig your nails into my shoulders. I smile. It's my turn.
I press my forehead against yours. All of my senses are heightened as I kiss you. The beauty of your face, the smell of your perfume, the taste of your mouth, the sound of your heavy breathing, and the feeling of being deep inside of you bring me to the sweetest ending I could ask for.
I now know what it means when people use the term earth-shattering. That's exactly what this orgasm feels like. My body convulses as pleasure floods my veins. A pleasure only you can give me.
I collapse on top of you. I take a few seconds to catch my breath. Afraid of crushing you, I summon every ounce of strength to hold myself up with my arms.
"Grab my neck," I whisper.
You obey. I wrap my arms around you and roll over so you're resting on top of me. I run my fingers down your back as we both finish recovering.
You bury your face in my neck. I hear you sob.
I force you to look at me. "Why are you crying? I didn't hurt you...did I?"
You shake your head. "No."
"Then why are you crying? Please...tell me."
You look away from me. "It's because...you'll probably leave and never come back."
I sit up on my elbows. "Why would you say something like that?"
You cover yourself with a blanket. "Isn't that what guys do?"
I furrow my brow. "I'm afraid I don't understand."
You lock your eyes with mine. They show a hint of sadness and it's breaking my heart.
"You just fucked me. I'm not saying I regret it. It's just...I'm scared you'll leave me now."
My eyes widen. "Is that what you think of me? I must admit...I'm a little insulted."
You shake your head. "No. I know you're a good person. I'm just afraid of losing you because...I...umm... like you, Kurapika."
I place my hands on your cheeks. "Listen to me, (Y/N). We may have rushed things a bit...but...it was only because I felt an instant connection with you. You're mine now."
Your face brightens. "I am?"
"Yes. From now on...I'm going to protect you. I don't know what fate has in store for us, but I promise...I'll never hurt you. Can you promise me the same thing?"
"Yes. I promise, Kurapika. I'll never hurt you. You've already suffered enough for a lifetime."
I press my lips against yours. We share a passionate kiss before I pull away.
"You must be exhausted. We should get some sleep."
You yawn. "Good idea. I hope I'll be able to walk in the morning."
I laugh. You pull down the covers and we tuck ourselves in. I position myself on my side so I can hold you. It doesn't take you long to fall asleep. I watch as the moonlight shines through the window, casting a glow around your face. I don't want to disturb your sleep, but I can't control the urge to touch your cheek. You look like an angel when you sleep.
An hour passes and I'm still watching you. I can't wait until morning. Now that we've physically expressed our desire for each other, I want to know everything about you.
You wince in your sleep. My lovely angel...are you having a nightmare? I kiss your shoulder, wishing I could step into your dream and fight off whatever demon is frightening you. At this moment, I realize there are things I simply can't protect you from. It frustrates me.
I roll over to try to sleep. I massage my temples, suddenly angry at myself. I shouldn't be here right now. I'm still searching for my clan's eyes. So...why am I falling for a girl I've known for only a month? I smile. I'm falling because the girl is you.
I wake up to the sound of your shower running. I stretch, missing you even though you're only a few feet away. I pull off the comforter, remembering I fell asleep without putting my clothes back on. I crawl out of bed and grab my bag while walking toward the bathroom. I reach up to knock, but stop myself when I hear you sing. I close my eyes, enjoying the sound of your voice.
"Cause I know what you like boy. You're my chemical Hype Boy," you sing.
It's the most adorable thing I've ever heard. I curse my bladder for interrupting my moment. I finally knock on the door.
"Oh...uh..e in."
I open the door and walk inside the small bathroom. "I'm sorry to disturb you. I just need to use the restroom."
"Don't worry about it. Hey...why don't you join me?"
I flush the toilet. Did I hear you correctly?
"Uh...you mean in the shower?" I ask you.
"Yeah. My hot water doesn't last long so I figured we could shower together."
"Uh...right. Good use of resources." I quickly brush my teeth.
I pull the curtain to the side and step in. My jaw drops at the sight of you. Your body is covered in suds and I just want to take that loofah out of your hand and scrub you down.
I notice you look me up and down. I'm suddenly embarrassed.
You giggle. "Someone is up and ready to go." You pull me closer to you and we begin to kiss as the shower blasts on us.
Seconds later, you break away. You turn around and place your hands on the tile wall, pushing your rear end towards me. I don't waste time. I quickly position myself in front of your entrance, plunging into you from behind.
I grab your waist, thrusting in and out of you. The steam from the hot water makes it hard to see. I wish I could see your face and the expressions you're making.
You push your hips back and scream my name. I can feel you pulsate around me, letting me know you're having an orgasm.
I'm close. A few more thrusts later and I'm the one screaming your name. I suddenly realize I'm not wearing a condom so I pull out, exploding on the small of your back.
The steam around us disappears as the water turns cold. We laugh as we quickly finish washing up before getting out.
I wrap a towel around you. "You weren't kidding about the water. I hope you don't catch a cold."
"Yeah. It was annoying at first, but I got used to it." You hand me a towel to use.
I hear sirens coming from outside as I dry myself off. "You know...this area isn't very safe. Why did you decide on moving here?"
You get dressed in your uniform. "The rent is cheap and it's close to my job."
I tuck my shirt into my pants. "Hmm...I don't like you living in a high crime area."
You button up your blazer. "It's not that bad." You close the distance between us, placing your hands on my chest. You twirl a lock of my hair around your finger. "You look good with wet hair."
I grab your hands. "Hey, don't change the subject. We should work on finding you a new place to live."
"I can't. I just signed a new lease. Why are you so worried about it?"
I release your hands and wrap my arms around you, holding you close to my chest. "You're my angel. You flew into my life and rescued me." I kiss you on the top of your head. "I told you last night...I'm going to protect you...even if it means losing my life for you."
"Kurapika, what's this feeling? I mean...we barely know each other. Why do I feel like I'm falling for you?"
"I don't know. But...let's not fight it. Instead, let's fall in love."
The next six months quickly pass by. Leorio has been begging me to bring you over. He's excited to meet you.
It's dusk. I'm running to your apartment to pick you up. I stop at an alley when I see a silhouette of a young woman. I watch as a larger figure appears out of nowhere. Adrenaline runs through my veins when I realize this woman is about to get mugged. I run to help her. We'll just have to be late tonight.
The alley is dark and I'm wondering why a woman would walk down here in the first place.
I conjure my chains before facing the piece of scum. I probably won't need them, but it's better to be prepared in these types of situations.
"Get your hands off her!" I yell.
He laughs at me. "I wasn't expecting an audience, but you're welcome to watch."
I clench my jaw. As a hunter, I have every right to arrest him. However, people like him should be eradicated from this planet.
As I release my dowsing chain, I feel a tug at my suit.
"Kurapika, don't do anything stupid. Let the police handle it."
Wait...this woman knows my name? Not wanting to give this bastard an opportunity to escape, I allow my chain to wrap around his body. I turn my head to face the woman.
I feel my eyes turn scarlet under my black contacts. "(Y/N)! What the hell are you doing here?"
You look at me with fear in your eyes. "I always take this alley home. It's a shortcut."
My veins are on fire. The burning sensation travels directly to my heart. I'm not a stranger to rage; however, this feeling goes way beyond the fury I'm used to.
I turn my attention back to the man, tightening the grip on my chain. Screaming in agony, he begs for me to stop.
You place your hands on my shoulders, shaking me. "Kurapika...stop!"
Why should I stop? If I didn't show up when I did, this man would have you pinned against the concrete, forcing himself inside you. The thought enrages me even more.
"(Y/N), I want you to run home."
"But..."
"Go!" I shout.
When I no longer hear your footsteps, I walk closer to the vermin. I'm not a murderer. I'm simply making this world a safer place.
I allow my judgment chain to fall from my little finger.
I stab his heart. His body jolts from the impact.
"I'm going to give you a condition. If you break the condition, the chain I just inserted will crush your heart. And my condition is...you're not to have any perverted thoughts about women again."
He doesn't say anything. Seconds later, he jolts again as my chain crushes his heart. Corrupt scumbag. He couldn't even last a minute without having a perverse thought.
My chains disappear. I run to find you, leaving his body next to the garbage where it belongs.
You open the door to welcome me into your arms. Instead of pulling you into an embrace, I place my hands on your shoulders.
I can still feel the adrenaline running through my veins.
"(Y/N)!" I shake you. "How could you be so reckless? You almost got yourself killed tonight."
You squeeze your eyes shut. Tears make their way down your cheeks. "Kurapika...you're hurting me."
I immediately release you. "I'm sorry, (Y/N)." I kiss your tears away. "I just can't imagine a life without you in it."
"I understand. I'm so sorry. I promise to be more careful."
I sigh. "Start packing your things. You're moving out."
You give me a confused look. "What? But...I like it here."
"I wasn't giving you an option."
"Kurapika, I can't just move out. Besides, you're here every night with me."
I shake my head. "Doesn't matter. I love you, (Y/N). My job is to protect the angel I love."
I just confessed my love for you. I hold my breath as I wait for your response.
Your mouth falls open. "Kurapika...I love you, too."
I let out a breath of relief. "The truth is, I fell in love with you a long time ago."
You jump on top of me, pressing your lips hard against mine. I find it hard to believe you love me back. I don't deserve this. I don't deserve to be loved. Especially by someone as perfect as you.
I feel the adrenaline leave my body as I place you on your feet. The room spins as I collapse on the floor.
"Kurapika!" you kneel beside me.
I offer you a weak smile. "I'm fine...just a little tired."
You help me walk to the bedroom. My phone rings as I crawl into bed. You answer it for me.
"Hello, Leorio...I was looking forward to meeting you, too...Kurapika isn't feeling well...unfortunately, we'll have to postpone," you say to my friend.
It doesn't take me long to fall asleep. A few hours later, I jolt up. I'm sweating profusely as my heart rate accelerates. I immediately look in your direction. Thank goodness...you're safe. It's strange...I haven't had a nightmare since I met you. Those terrible nightmares that used to haunt me every night.
I dreamt you died in my arms.
A week later, I see you getting dressed up.
I take a seat on the bed. "Uh...did we have plans for tonight?"
You clip your hair up. "No. An old friend of mine called. She wants to get together. You don't mind, right?"
I run my hands through my hair. Why do I suddenly feel angry? "Yes. In fact, I do mind."
You look in the mirror as you swipe lipstick across your lips. You turn to face me. "You...do?"
I stand up and walk toward you, taking the lipstick out of your hand. "(Y/N), I have no idea who this friend is."
You crinkle your forehead. "Huh? Why are you acting like I'm meeting up with a criminal? I just want to hang out with my friend."
"No," I say, sternly.
"Are you serious? She's in town for a few days and this is the only time we can meet up."
I shrug my shoulders. "I'm sorry, (Y/N). I can't allow you to go out unprotected."
You bite your lip as you look away from me. I can tell you're holding back tears.
You push me away. "Kurapika, you can't control me!"
"I'm not. I'm only trying to keep you safe."
"Safe from what? I promise not to take any dark alleys home."
I can tell I'm hurting you. Damn...it kills me, but I have to do whatever it takes to keep you safe. I hope you realize that.
I turn around to leave the room.
"Kurapika, get back here!"
I come back a few minutes later. You're crying into a pillow. I extend my closed fist.
"Here. This is for you."
"What is it?" you ask me, sobbing.
I open my hand.
You look at the object in my hand, confused. "Why are you giving me a key?"
"I bought you an apartment. It's located in the safest building in the city. Leorio actually lives there.
"I told you...I don't want to leave."
"You'll change your mind once you see it. It has a balcony with an incredible view. And the best part is...the hot water lasts more than five minutes."
You push my hand away. "No. I don't want it."
I reach over to grab a tissue from the bedside table. I wipe the mascara streaks from your face.
"Come on, (Y/N). You can finally meet my friends while we're there."
You stand up. "No. If I can't go out with my friend, then I don't want to go anywhere."
I follow you as you walk into the kitchen. You open the refrigerator and pull out a bottle of plum wine.
"Uh... when did you purchase that?" I ask you.
You take down a wine glass from the cabinet. "I don't know. Why does it matter?"
"You don't plan on drinking that, right?"
You pour yourself a glass of wine. "Is that a serious question?"
I walk closer to you. "It most definitely is."
You take a sip. "Then...yes. I plan on drinking it. In fact, I plan on drinking the entire bottle."
I take the glass from your hand, spilling some on your dress. "No...you are not."
You grab some paper towels to soak up the wine from your dress. "Dammit, Kurapika! What's your problem?"
"I will not allow you to intoxicate yourself! You can get hurt."
You storm out of the kitchen.
"I'm my own person. Leave me alone."
I follow you. "(Y/N)!" I gently grab your arm. "I wish you knew how much you mean to me. Please...let's see your new apartment. Are you hungry? I'll buy you whatever you're in the mood for."
You look to the side, thinking.
"(Y/N)?"
You look back at me. "Fine. I'll go. But I'm still mad at you."
Leorio ordered us dinner so we decided to visit him before touring our new apartment. As much as I want you to see it, I don't want you to have an empty stomach.
Gon and Killua greet us at the door.
"What a nice surprise," I say. "I wasn't expecting to see you two."
Gon wraps his arms around me. "We've missed you so much!" He releases me, extending his arm out to you. "It's nice to meet you. You're beautiful."
You shake his hand. "Oh...thank you." You blush.
Killua taps his friend on the shoulder. "C'mon, Gon. The food is getting cold." He offers us a smile before walking away.
Alluka walks up to us and bows. She takes you by the hand and invites you to sit next to her at the table.
"Kurapika!" Leorio shouts. He runs up to me and picks me up. "It's been way too long!"
"Uh...you can put me down."
He sets me on the floor and pulls me in for a hug. The scent of his familiar cologne fills my nose.
"Sorry...I just missed you! But hey...we're going to be neighbors soon!"
I smile. "Yes. Thank you for your recommendation."
He waves his hand out in front of me. "Ah...don't mention it." He motions toward the food on the table. "Come in...there's plenty of food."
I take my shoes off before walking through the foyer. I notice you are already having a conversation with Alluka.
Leorio walks up to you and tousles your hair. "So you're the one who's keeping my best buddy away from me." He winks at you. "I can see why."
I nudge Leorio with my elbow. "Cut that out."
He picks up a bottle of sake. "Want me to pour you a drink?" He asks you.
You glance at me before answering. "No, thank you. I'm not allowed."
Leorio furrows his brow. "How come? Not old enough?"
"I am. My boyfriend just won't let me drink."
I grab a plate. "Everything looks delicious," I say, changing the subject.
After dinner, I walk with Leorio out back to the balcony while you and Alluka talk on the couch.
Leorio pulls out a chair for me. "So...how's life?"
I take a seat. "It's been great. (Y/N) has changed my life." I look through the glass door at you.
He turns his chair around and sits with his legs dangling off the sides. "I see that." He follows my line of sight. "She's a cutie."
I close my eyes and smile.
He nudges me, interrupting my thoughts. "Hey, what was she talking about earlier? You don't allow her to drink?"
"Not that it's any of your business, but no. Being intoxicated increases your chances of getting hurt." I cut my eyes at him. "You of all people should know that."
He clenches his jaw. "Hey, how come you get more and more annoying every time I see you?"
I ignore his question.
"I'm just saying," Leorio continues. "Girls don't like to be controlled. They start to freak out once you take away their freedom."
"Is this coming from an expert?"
He stretches his arms. "Look, Kurapika...don't mess things up with her. I like seeing you happy."
I stand up. "I appreciate the advice, but I think we'll be okay." I open the door to walk back inside.
You're having a conversation with Alluka. You immediately get up when I take a seat beside you.
"Excuse me, Alluka. I need to use the restroom," you say, pretending I don't exist.
I follow you into the bathroom. You attempt to push me out, but I outweigh you. I lock the door once I'm inside.
"Are you having a good time? I see you and Alluka are getting along well."
You look at me, expressionless. "We are. Why? Are you going to forbid me to see her now?"
I place my hands on your arms. "Don't act like I'm a bad person, (Y/N)." I turn you so your back is facing the wall. I barely touch your neck with my lips. I can feel the goosebumps erupt on your skin. "I love you. I just want to keep you safe." I kiss your delicate skin. "I killed for you. You know I would die for you as well."
"Wait." You place your hand on my cheek. A concerned look crosses your face. "You killed that guy?"
"Of course. He'll never hurt anyone again." I tuck some of your hair behind your ear.
You throw your arm in the air. "Kurapika! We have a justice system for that."
"Yes. One that is broken." I plant a kiss on your forehead.
"You're not afraid of the consequences?"
"No." I place my hands on your thigh, running my fingers up your soft skin. "I do what I want. I'm a professional hunter. Your hunter."
I continue to move my fingers up until they meet the waist of your panties.
"Kurapika...stop. I'm still mad at you."
"You are?" I kiss your neck, suckling the area next to your carotid artery. I move my left hand to the small of your back. I allow my right hand to trace over the fabric that is covering the heart of your femininity. I can feel the moisture seeping through. "If you want me to stop...simply tell me no." I press my finger through the fabric.
"N...ahhh," you moan, sliding down the wall.
I pick you back up, supporting you with my arm. I move the fabric to the side. "Was that a no?"
You stare at me with lust-filled eyes. "No."
"No, what? Do you want me to stop?"
You shake your head. Since I now have your permission, I press my fingers against your clit. I massage it for a few seconds before my hand is drenched. I slide my fingers down until they meet your entrance.
I continue to suckle your neck while I press two of my fingers inside your treasure.
You let out a moan. I suddenly become aware that my friends are sitting in the next room. I pull away from your neck and place my lips next to your ear. "Shh...we're not alone," I whisper.
You grind against my hand as I push my fingers in as far as they will go. I use my thumb to massage your clit while pushing my fingers in and out of you. Your walls tighten around my fingers as your legs start to tremble. I cover your mouth with my free hand as you scream. More warm fluid gushes out of you, soaking my hand.
I pull my fingers out of your warmth and lick them clean. You collapse to the floor, breathing heavily. Your face is flushed.
I wash my hands before helping you back to your feet. Once you regain your balance, we step out of the bathroom. Alluka greets you with a big smile on her face.
"There you are, (Y/N)! I was starting to worry about you." Her eyes move to the reddened area on your neck. "Oh my goodness! Are you okay? Did something bite you?"
You blush, covering the love bite I left on your neck. "No...I'm fine."
Leorio gives me the side-eye as I walk past him.
You and I say our goodbyes before walking downstairs to our new apartment.
You trip over nothing as we walk down the stairs.
I catch you before you fall down the long flight of stairs. "(Y/N)! Are you hurt?" I start to assess you.
"Kurapika, stop! I'm fine." You step away from me. "I'm not made of glass."
"I know...I just want to make sure you're okay. Why is that a bad thing?"
"Because...I sometimes feel like you're smothering me," you say.
You take a few steps down without me. I reach out for your hand and lose my own balance as I tumble down the stairs landing face first.
"Kurapika!" You run toward me. You kneel beside me, carefully turning me onto my back. "Baby...you're hurt!" You hold my hand.
I wince from the pain. I move my tongue around my mouth, tasting blood.
I open my eyes. You have a look of worry on your face as you reach into my pocket for my phone. I hear you call Leorio. Seconds later, my best friend comes running down the stairs holding his first-aid kit.
He gets on his knees and immediately presses a piece of gauze on my chin.
"(Y/N), what happened?" He places a bandage on my chin.
"It's my fault...he was just trying to keep me safe," you answer. You start to cry.
Leorio shines a bright light in my eyes. He conducts a neurological assessment on me. He allows me to sit up once he's satisfied with the results.
He rubs my shoulder. "How're you feeling, buddy? Does anything else hurt?"
I push his hand away. "Is (Y/N) okay?"
"Huh? She's fine. You're the one who took the fall."
"I know. But...she's crying."
You comb my hair with your fingers. "I'm fine, sweetheart." You plant a kiss on my forehead. "I'm so sorry."
"Stop, (Y/N). This wasn't your fault." I slowly get on my feet. "Let's go home."
You and Leorio stand up.
"I guess my work here is done. Don't hesitate to call if you need anything," Leorio says, dusting off his suit.
"Thank you so much!" You bow in front of him.
Leorio walks back up to his apartment, leaving us alone.
You rest your head against my chest. "I'm so sorry, Kurapika. I shouldn't have said you were smothering me. I didn't mean that."
I wrap my arms around you. "It's fine, (Y/N). Maybe you're right. I just can't help it...you mean the world to me."
I open the door to our new apartment. I flick on the light switch while you take off your shoes. You gasp when you take in your surroundings.
"Oh my, Kurapika...it's my dream apartment! And you had it furnished?"
"Yes. I hired a professional designer. I hope you like it."
I follow you as you walk through the apartment. You walk out to the balcony.
"You were right. I can see the entire city from up here," you say.
Your face brightens. That smile of yours...I feel its warmth throughout my entire body.
I grab your arm and pull you close to me. "I love you, (Y/N). You deserve nothing but the best."
We head back inside, stopping in the living room. You wrap your arms around my neck, standing on your tiptoes to kiss my chin. "Does it hurt?"
"Watch this." My eyes turn scarlet as I summon my aura. You gasp as you watch my chains appear on my right hand. "Holy Chain." My chain dangles from my thumb for a few seconds before making its way to my chin, healing me instantly.
I shut off my aura once I'm healed. You inspect my chin.
"Your cut...it's gone!"
You reach up to kiss me.
You pull away, allowing your dress to slide off your body. You stare at me with passion in your eyes.
"Kurapika, make love to me. Right now."
Your gaze burns through me. I pick you up and start to walk to our bedroom.
"No. Right here," you say.
"Uh...are you sure?"
You nibble on my neck. "Yes. I want to do it in every room of this apartment."
Your lips feel so good on my neck. "I like that idea."
I set you down on your feet. You take off your underwear as if you're giving me a strip tease. I must say, I like this side of you.
You point to the couch. "Sit down."
I happily oblige. I cross my arms behind my neck and watch as you unbutton my shirt. You leave a trail of kisses from my neck down to my navel. You unbuckle my belt. I lift my hips up, allowing you to pull down my pants.
You straddle me on the couch. I reach down, sliding a finger inside of you. Yes, you're ready. I remove my finger and grab your waist. You slide down my length. My eyes widen as I watch myself disappear inside of you.
You throw your head back as you rock back and forth on me. This position is perfect. I watch your breasts bounce up and down. I catch one in my mouth, sucking until you scream my name.
I give your other breast attention. You dig your nails into my skin. That's how I know you're close.
"Kurapika, I'm going to..."
I watch as waves of pleasure take over your body. The way you move, the faces you make, and the sounds that come from your throat...it feels like I'm experiencing a revelation. To know I'm the one making you feel this way is an honor.
You collapse on my chest, breathing heavily. I allow you a few seconds to recover before picking you up. I lay your gorgeous body on the rug. I penetrate your already wet entrance. I keep my thrusts slow, but deliberate.
You spread your legs as far as they will go, allowing me to go in deeper. Your body feels amazing. I wish I could go on a little longer, but it just feels too good.
You rock your pelvis to match my movements. Your face tells me you're about to have another orgasm. I have no choice but to keep going. Damn...this is going to be difficult.
I close my eyes, trying my best not to picture your perfect body. Sweat drops fall from my forehead. I feel you tighten around me. Thank goodness...you're close again. I don't know how much longer I can last.
As soon as I hear you scream my name again, I allow myself to explode inside of you. It's okay. Since we started a serious relationship, we both decided to get tested and start you on the pill.
I take a few deep breaths as my heart threatens to burst out of my chest.
I pull out of you and fall to the floor.
You play with my hair. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. That was...the best orgasm I've ever experienced." I answer in between breaths.
"I agree. They weren't kidding when they said make-up sex was the best."
I run my fingers up and down your arm. "Hey...I apologize for my behavior. I'm going to try not to smother you so much."
The night before our one year anniversary, you are getting ready to go out with your colleagues.
I stop you as you reach for your purse.
"Kurapika, what's wrong? You knew I was going out tonight."
"You can't. There's been some gang activity close to where you're going."
Your eyes well up with tears. You grab your purse from my hand and slam it on the floor. I hate hurting you like this, but it's for your own safety. Why can't you understand that?
You turn around and start walking down the hallway.
"Where are you going?" I ask you.
"Leave me alone. I'm sleeping in the guest room tonight."
It kills me, but I know I'm doing this for the right reasons.
The next morning, I gently knock on the door to the guest room.
I slowly open the door when you don't respond. "(Y/N)? Are you awake?"
You sit up in bed. Your hair is a beautiful mess and your eyes tell me you spent most of the night crying. I hope I can make it up to you today.
"What do you want, Kurapika?"
I crawl into the bed. "Happy Anniversary, my lovely angel. These are for you."
You take the two pieces of paper from me. "What's this?" You read the tickets. "Wait...I thought you said I wasn't allowed to go to the amusement park. You said the rides weren't safe."
I nod. "Yes, that's true. However, I'll be right next to you in case something happens. Besides, I know how badly you want to ride that new roller coaster."
You throw your arms around me. "Oh...Kurapika...thank you so much!" You plant kisses all over my face. "I love you so much! Happy Anniversary!"
We laugh as we enter our apartment.
"Thank you, Kurapika. Today was the best day of my life."
"You're welcome, my angel. I love making you smile."
We stand in the living room in silence. As I look into your eyes, I thank the Heavens for sending you my way.
"Wait here...I have one more gift for you," I say.
Seconds later, I come back with a present in my hand.
You tilt your head to the side. "What's that?"
"(Y/N), before I met you, I was a mess. My days were spent at the church, grieving over my brethren's eyes. I ignored my friends when they needed me the most." I open your hand, placing the small present on top. "(Y/N), you're like a sun rising at midnight; deterring the demons from haunting my dreams."
My heart pounds against my chest as I get down on one knee.
"Kurapika? What are you doing?" you ask me, nervously.
"(Y/N), will you marry me?"
You rip open the present. Your eyes widen when you see the elaborate engagement ring sitting inside the box.
"Kurapika? Are you serious?"
I nod, anxiously awaiting your answer.
You close the box. Tears stream down your cheeks. I can't tell if they are tears of joy. Maybe you're just wonderstruck.
"Stand up, Kurapika. We need to talk."
"Huh?" I stand up. I try to read your expression, but you won't make eye contact with me. "What's wrong, (Y/N)? Do you not like the ring I picked out? If that's the case, we can exchange it."
You finally make eye contact with me. Your eyes are full of fury. "It's not the damn ring, Kurapika! I can't marry you!"
I take a step back, sucking in air I desperately need. "Why...why not?"
You look down, pressing the bridge of your nose. "Kurapika...I love you. However, I can't be your wife."
My head starts to spin. "That doesn't make any sense." I try to focus on you, but my vision is going white. "Please...tell me why you can't be my wife."
You throw your arms down. "You don't get it, do you?" Dammit, Kurapika. You're the most controlling man I've ever met. I can't even pick up the mail by myself, for Kami's sake."
"It's because I'm trying to keep you safe. You don't know how much I love you."
You turn around. "You have a strange way of showing it."
You walk to our bedroom. I follow you. "What are you doing?" I ask when I see you grab your suitcase from the closet.
You don't notice the scattered red rose petals and electric candles I had arranged for our special night together.
You start to empty your dresser. "I didn't want to tell you on our anniversary, but I think we should go our separate ways."
"Please, (Y/N). I'll give you a beautiful wedding. You can invite your friends. They can watch as we vow to spend the rest of our lives together."
You look back at me. "My friends? I don't have any friends, Kurapika. They stopped talking to me once you asked for a background check."
I grab your arm. "Why are you acting like a deranged woman?"
You pull back. "Me? Deranged? You're the mental case, Kurapika. Leave me the hell alone."
I stand there and watch as you pack your suitcase. I feel an overwhelming amount of pain in my heart. A pain I know I can't live with.
When you're finished, you grab the doorknob, holding my gaze for a few seconds.
"Kurapika, I want you to know, you're still the love of my life. I know I'll never meet anyone else like you. It's just...I need to live my own life."
"Don't do this, (Y/N)."
You look away, turning the doorknob. You walk down the hallway with your head down.
"Goodbye, Kurapika."
I don't know how I manage to conjure my chains, but I throw my dowsing chain at you. It wraps itself around your body. I pull you back to me. I pick you up and walk you back to our room. I lay you down on our rose petal-covered bed.
Panic flares your eyes as your body trembles beneath me.
I comb your hair away from your face with my fingers, admiring your beauty.
"Kurapika...please," you whisper.
My heart feels heavy, like it's being pulled down to my stomach by a chain. "I just have one thing to say to you." I feel the tears sting my eyes. "You broke your promise. You promised you'd never hurt me."
You attempt to wriggle out of my chains. "I'm so sorry." Tears fall down the side of your face.
"Please, (Y/N). Give us another chance. When you first met me, I was broken. You picked up all the pieces and fixed me. Now...I feel myself breaking again. Please...don't give up on us."
I pull the chain tighter.
You wince in pain. "Kurapika, you're hurting me."
Blood seeps from your skin and onto the white comforter. The deep red color matches the rose petals.
"We're so good together. Sure, we have our faults, but...I still love you. You're my favorite person, (Y/N)." I choke up, allowing the tears to stream down my cheeks. "You're the air I need in my lungs to breathe. You're the pump my heart needs to circulate blood throughout my body." I pull the chain even tighter. "If you leave me...I'll die."
"Kurapika...I can't...breathe."
Heartache consumes me as I think about a future without you. I pull tighter and tighter, not paying attention to what you're trying to say to me.
I can feel you struggle on the other end of my chain. I fall back off the bed, landing hard on the wood floor. My body convulses, as if I'm having a seizure.
Seconds later, I feel nothing at the end of my chain. Did you manage to escape? No...that's impossible.
Reality sets in. I jump up and stand next to our bed. My eyes widen at the sight in front of me. I turn off my aura and watch as the chains around you disappear.
Your skin looks like porcelain. Your beautiful eyes are open, staring directly at me. Your lips are parted, blood pouring down the side of your mouth.
Adrenaline flows through my veins as I press the heel of my hand into your sternum. "Wake up, (Y/N)...wake up!"
More blood pours out of your mouth as I continue to pound your chest.
I scream. I scream so loud, my voice breaks. Exhausted, I fall on your lifeless body.
The loud knocking on my front door turns into pounding. I can't move to answer it. The pounding turns into shattering as I hear someone punching the door open. The footsteps become louder as they approach me. My door swings open.
"Kurapika!" Leorio shouts, hands on his knees, breathing heavily.
I slowly turn my head. My body jolts when I see my best friend. "Leorio! Thank goodness!" I move away from your body. "(Y/N) needs a doctor...please...save her."
Leorio takes slow steps until he reaches the bed.
"Leorio, didn't you hear me? She needs help...move faster!"
He picks up your limp arm. Your skin has indentations that look like chains. He presses two fingers against your wrist. He shakes his head, gently placing your arm back down.
"She's gone."
I swallow hard. "What do you mean?"
"Kurapika, what happened?"
I stare into your lifeless eyes as I search for an answer. I reach down and kiss your precious face. Your skin feels like ice against my lips.
"Leorio, she's not kissing me back." I look up at my best friend. "Why isn't she kissing me back?" I press my lips against yours. You taste different. I kiss you again. You taste like blood. Why? "Leorio, she's sick. We need to help her. Should I call an ambulance?"
Leorio grabs my shoulders. "Kurapika!" he shouts in my face. "What the hell happened?"
He shakes me.
I stare at nothing. "Today is our anniversary. I took her to the amusement park. We came back home and I asked her to marry me. She said no so I..."
He shakes me again. "So you what?"
"So I...killed her." I take in a shaky breath. I stand up, ejecting the contents of my stomach on Leorio's shoes.
He jumps back, frantically searching for a towel. He takes off his shoes and runs to the bathroom. He returns with a wet washcloth. I barely move as he wipes my face.
I push him away, attempting to stand up again. I look over my shoulder at your body. I bite my lip until it bleeds. Hot tears well up in my eyes. I grip my chest, trying to remember how to breathe. I don't deserve to breathe. I'm the worst human on this planet.
I try to speak to Leorio, but my words must not be making sense.
"What was that?" he asks me.
"I want to die."
Fear fills his eyes as he jumps to me. He wraps his long arms around me, squeezing me against his chest.
"Don't you dare say that. We'll figure this out."
I force myself out of his grip. I look at my bedside table. A framed picture of you and me sits on top. I pick up the lamp and throw it across the room. I start to destroy everything I can get my hands on.
Leorio grabs me again. "Kurapika! Cut it out!"
"No. I told you...I want to die. Please...I need to be with (Y/N). Help me, Leorio. Help me die!" I beg.
He tightens his grip as I struggle to free myself. I start to hyperventilate.
"Breathe, Kurapika...breathe."
Dammit...didn't he hear me? I don't want to breathe. I don't want to live anymore.
Leorio reaches into his pocket for his phone. I can't hear who he's talking to. The sound of my own heartbeat floods my head.
Minutes later, I see Gon and Killua standing next to the door. They have their hands covering their noses.
Gon looks at me with sadness in his eyes.
Killua's eyes fall on you. "Is (Y/N) dead?"
"Look...I'll explain later. Hell...I don't even know the full story. We just need to keep Kurapika from harming himself. I can't do it alone," Leorio explains.
His words infuriate me. Why can't I harm myself? It's my choice. And I chose death.
I use every ounce of strength I have left to summon my aura. I lift my restraining middle finger. I don't care who I use it on. I'm already a murderer. I know using it will ensure my death.
Killua jumps on me. "Guys, he's about to activate his Nen dagger!"
"Dammit!" shouts Leorio, running toward us.
"Kurapika, no!" shouts Gon.
Killua holds down my arms. I try to fight him off, but I'm too exhausted.
"What should I do?" Killua asks Leorio.
"We need to take him to a safe place. A place where he won't be able to use Nen."
"Alright...where can we find a place like that?"
I struggle to free myself from Killua's tight grip.
Leorio reaches for his phone again. "I'll make a few phone calls. In the meantime, can you use your Nen to knock him out for a few hours?"
"Sure can," Killua answers with a nod.
I look at Killua with pleading eyes.
"Sorry." Electric sparks surround Killua's hand. "I promise this will only hurt for a second."
No. Make it last forever.
I open my eyes and find myself inside a gray room. Why do I feel so groggy? And where are you?
I hear Leorio. I stand up from the futon to follow his voice. I attempt to open the door, but it's locked. I pound my fist against the door. Seconds later, he enters the room. Gon and Killua follow him. I turn my head from side to side. I don't see you anywhere.
"Kurapika, you're awake! How do you feel?" Leorio asks me.
"Like shit. Where's (Y/N)?"
Leorio, Gon, and Killua exchange glances.
I'm growing impatient. "Can someone answer me?"
Leorio places his hand on my shoulder. He takes a deep breath. "Kurapika, there's been an accident."
I pull away. "What kind of accident?"
"(Y/N). She...she passed away."
I push my friend. "You're lying!" I look at Gon and Killua. "Why is he lying to me?"
They hang their heads.
I walk backwards until I hit the wall. "No. I refuse to believe it."
Everyone is silent.
Leorio grabs me and allows me to cry into his chest. "How...did...she...die?"
He rubs my back. "She died in her sleep."
I look up at him. "Did she suffer?"
His eyes are wet. "No. She died peacefully."
"Where was I? Why wasn't I there to protect her?" So many questions fill my foggy brain.
Leorio doesn't answer. Instead, he plants a kiss on my head. "We're here for you."
"When is her service?"
Leorio glances back at Gon and Killua. Why do they keep looking at each other like that?
"It's this weekend," Leorio finally answers me.
I look at him with hopeful eyes. "Can I attend?"
Leorio shakes his head. "I don't think so. You're pretty sick yourself. You need to stay here until you get better."
"I'm sick?" I massage my temples. "Is that why I have a terrible migraine?"
"Most likely," Leorio says.
I picture your beautiful smile. "Leorio, I don't care if I'm sick. I need to see (Y/N) one last time. Please...allow me to attend her funeral. You're a doctor. Tell them I'm not contagious."
"Kurapika, it's not that easy."
I feel shards of glass in my heart. They pierce my heart with each breath I take.
"I'm going. She would want me there." I take in my surroundings. Why am I confined within this box? I'm suddenly filled with anger. "And I'm getting out of here."
Leorio holds me back as Gon and Killua walk closer to me. Why do they want to trap me?
"Gon, get the nurse," Leorio says.
"Right." Gon runs out of the room.
Seconds later, a nurse comes into the room holding a syringe. Is that for me?
"Kurapika, she's going to give you some medicine."
"I don't want it!" I try to escape, but Killua blocks the door.
Leorio and Gon grab me. They place me on the futon. The nurse turns me on my stomach. She lifts the dreadful gown I'm wearing, exposing my glutes. This is so degrading. I'm a hunter. I shouldn't be treated like this.
Gon looks at me with misty eyes as the nurse stabs me with the syringe. Damn, that burns.
I slowly turn on my back. My eyes are heavy. I look at my friends. They look back at me with misty eyes.
Back to present day
I stare at the ceiling. I was in love with you. You loved me back. And I ruined it. I destroyed the special magic that not everyone gets to experience.
I turn my head when I hear the door unlock. I watch as my best friend kneels beside me.
"I spoke with the psychiatrist. The reason they increased the dosage of your medications is because you kept threatening to harm yourself." He closes his eyes and shakes his head. It looks like he's holding back tears. "I don't want to leave you here, Kurapika. But...I can't risk losing you. They are going to stop some of the meds and assess how you feel off of them."
I grab his arm. "Leorio, I know why I'm here. I remember everything. You can stop lying to me."
A look of shock crosses Leorio's face. "You...you know?"
I sit up. "Yes. I killed (Y/N)."
He stares at me, expecting me to go ballistic on him.
I offer him a reassuring smile. "Don't worry. I don't want to kill myself. I don't deserve to die. I don't deserve to be with (Y/N). The only thing I'm worthy of is a life inside this box."
"Hey, I'm glad you don't want to commit suicide anymore, but....can you stop talking like that? You're my best friend. And Gon and Killua...they wouldn't want to hear you say those words."
I shake my head. "You three are too kind to me. I'm blessed."
"So...ready to break free?" He asks me.
"And where will I go? Once again, I have no home."
He slaps the side of my head. "With me, you dimwit."
I stare at the wall, contemplating whether or not I should leave this place. What would you want me to do?
I take a deep breath. "Fine. I'll go. I want to use my special abilities to help people." I turn my head to face Leorio. "But promise me one thing."
"Anything."
"Don't allow me to fall in love again."
Sweat drops form on his forehead. "Uh...sure."
Leorio opens his car door for me. I hop in, ready to start a new life.
As soon as we enter his apartment, I head straight to the shower. I allow the hot water to stream down on me as I scrub away the memories of the asylum. It's nice to take a shower without having a stranger stand next to you, watching your every move.
I get dressed in my suit. For the past six months, I've been wearing nothing but a dark gray hospital gown. I'm actually starting to feel human again.
I look in the mirror as I comb my hair. I'm long overdue for a haircut. Dark bags still sit under my eyes.
Leorio has a cup of coffee waiting for me on the kitchen counter. I blow away the steam before taking a sip. "Thank you. Finally, a decent cup of coffee."
"No problem." He takes a sip from his mug. "I'm off today so if there's anything you want to do, just let me know."
I put my mug down and look out the window. "Actually, I'd like to visit (Y/N). Do you mind driving me to her gravesite?"
His eyes widen. "Uh...sure. No problem."
"But first...take me to a flower shop."
I step out of Leorio's car onto the grass. He points to a beautiful monument.
"That's where she is. Take all the time you need," he says.
I close the car door, ready to visit you.
The gravel crunches beneath my feet as I walk up to your gravesite. My heart aches as soon as I see your name on the tombstone. I kneel, arranging the flowers I bought around your gravesite. They're hydrangeas. The same flowers you gave me the first day we met.
I stare at your grave. A cool breeze blows in my face. The smell of earth fills my nose. I can smell a hint of cherry blossoms, reminding me of you.
"(Y/N), I thought I was protecting you. Instead, I kept you from living the life you deserved. I told you about the dangers of this world. I stopped you from doing things you wanted to do. I don't blame you for leaving me. I blame myself. I probably shouldn't be here. I mean...I'm the reason you're buried under this site." I grab my chest as I choke up. "I remember our last kiss. If I knew it was our last, I would have savored it a little longer. I just want to thank you for showing me true love. I hope the next time we meet, you welcome me in your arms. I hope you tell me you forgive me." I stand up. "Until then, I love you, (Y/N)."
I hear footsteps approaching me as I take one last look at your gravesite.
"Oh, I'm sorry to disturb you," a woman says.
I turn around. "That's quite all right."
"I'll come back later if you need more time."
I wipe my eyes. "That's not necessary. I'm finished with my visit." I start to walk away.
"Hey...how did you know (Y/N)?" she asks me.
I turn back around to face her. "I was her...we were...in love."
She hangs her head. "I'm sorry. You must be the one she talked about all the time."
I furrow my brow. "I'm sorry...who are you?"
"I was (Y/N)'s best friend. I was supposed to meet up with her the last time I was in the city, but she canceled on me at the last minute. I feel terrible because it's been years since I've seen her. And now...she's gone."
I hang my head. "I'm sorry. I'm the reason she canceled on you."
She waves her hand in front of me. "Don't feel bad. I've never been in love before, but from what (Y/N) told me, it's incredible. I don't blame you for wanting her all to yourself."
I smile. "You know, I'm good at reading people. You seem like a very kind person. I wish (Y/N) had the chance to spend more time with you."
You reach into your purse. You pull out a pen and piece of paper. "I'm only in town for a few days." She writes something on the paper and hands it to me. "Let's meet up for coffee. I have a lot of stories about (Y/N) to share with you."
I take the piece of paper and put it in my pocket. "I'd love to hear stories about (Y/N). Thank you."
I walk back to Leorio's car. I buckle my seatbelt and look out the window as Leorio pulls out of the cemetery.
"You know that chick?" he asks me.
"No. We just met."
"Hmm..."
"She knew (Y/N). They were best friends. She invited me for coffee."
Leorio raises an eyebrow. "Oh?"
"Yeah. She says she has a lot of stories to tell me about (Y/N)." I smile. "I'm excited to hear them."
He looks at the road in front of him. "She's pretty."
I turn my head to face him. "Leorio, what are you trying to say?"
He shrugs his shoulders. "Nothing. I just think it's a good thing. You know...to meet new people."
I look back out the window. The sun's rays shine through the clouds. Is that you, my angel? Are you looking down on me from Heaven?
