                    "Kurapika!" Neon shouts.
Kurapika jolts to a halt. He pulls out of me. "Uh...Neon...I can explain." He grabs the closest piece of fabric to cover his lower half while sitting on the edge of the bed.
I grab his pillow to cover my body.
She stomps in the room and slaps him across the face. "We're months away from getting married and you're fucking another woman?"
He rubs his cheek. "I'm so sorry, Neon. You know you're the only woman for me. Please...I just had a moment of weakness."
I want to melt away. What I did was wrong, and I feel disgusted with myself. I thought I had morals.
Neon covers her face with her hands and sobs. I can't imagine what she's feeling right now. She found her prince, he got on one knee and made a promise, now he's in bed with another woman. Me. I'm the other woman. That's all I am. I actually feel sorry for her.
He pulls her hands away from her face and delicately touches her cheek with his fingers. "My love, you're the one I want to spend the rest of my life with."
Does he realize I'm still here?
She sniffles her nose. "Who is she?"
He kisses her on the lips. If she only knew where he had those lips only hours ago.
"She's just one of my students. Nothing more." He wraps his arms around her shoulders and strokes her long hair.
His words sting. I'm just a student? Fuck him.
I crawl out of his bed and grab my clothes off the floor. I can't get out of here fast enough.
I hold the door frame, pausing to look at Kurapika one last time.
He makes eye contact with me. "I'm sorry," he mouths.
I can barely see as I run as fast as I can to Alluka's apartment. The tears are making my vision blurry.
I slam my fist against her door. Killua answers it. He rubs his sleepy eyes.
"What the hell, (Y/N)?" He blinks as he looks me up and down. "What...happened? You look like shit."
I push him to the side as I walk inside the apartment. Alluka comes running down the hall in her pajamas.
She gasps when she sees me. "Oh, (Y/N). I'm so sorry." She pulls me in for a hug, rubbing my back.
"You were right...I should have stayed far away from him," I say.
I follow Alluka back to her room.
"Tell me everything," she says as she sits on her futon.
I sit down next to her. She's old enough to understand, but I still try to leave out the details of the evening. I want to preserve her innocence for as long as I can. I'm sure Killua appreciates that.
Her mouth drops open. "He confessed his love for you and still took Neon back?"
I nod.
"Well...don't you worry...I won't be attending their wedding."
"No, Alluka. Kurapika is still your friend. Please go."
I set out a bottle of my favorite nigori sake and a variety of snacks on the table out on the balcony. These past few months flew by, and I've been dreading this day.
I look down at the city below. The sun is shining brightly against the clear blue sky...the perfect day for a wedding.
Everyone is going about their day while a lonely girl sits up here, slowly dying of a broken heart.
I'm halfway through the bottle when I hear a knock at my door.
"Maybe they'll go away if I ignore them," I say to myself while I pour myself another glass.
But...they don't leave. Instead, they knock louder.
I stand up from my lounge chair, immediately losing balance. My head spins as I slide open the door to go back inside.
"I'm coming!" I shout at whoever is interrupting my pity party.
My jaw drops as soon as I open the door.
"Ku...Kurapika?"
I stare at the blonde dressed up in a tuxedo.
"Hello, (Y/N). Can I come in?"
"Uh...sure."
I allow the Kurta to enter. I close my door once he's inside.
"What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be at your wedding?"
He hangs his head. His bangs cover his dark eyes.
"Yes. I just couldn't do it, (Y/N)."
I watch as he leans up against the wall. "Wait...you didn't get married?"
He shakes his head. "No. I just hurt people, (Y/N). I don't deserve love."
I reach up and lift his chin. "Don't say things like that. Of course you deserve love."
He finally makes eye contact with me. A soft smile forms on his face. "Do I deserve your love?"
No. I'm just a student, remember?
I lean my head against his chest. "Of course you do."
What's wrong with me? I had an entire speech ready for when I saw him again. Instead, I place my hand over his heart, wanting it all to myself.
He takes my hand and presses his lips against it. He reaches down and kisses me. I never thought I'd feel his soft lips over mine again. I close my eyes and slowly kiss him back, savoring his taste.
I almost melt away before he stops abruptly. My eyes shoot open. He furrows his brow.
"(Y/N), have you been drinking?"
Right. I'm a little drunk.
"Just a little," I say.
He presses his palm against his forehead. "Dammit, (Y/N). I just ran away from my wedding for you and you're too drunk to comprehend what's going on."
Why is he so mad? How was I supposed to know?
I giggle. "You're so cute when you're mad."
"Cute? Do you not realize the seriousness of the situation?"
I grab his arm and pull him towards the balcony. "Come on. Have some sake with me. Looks like you could use it."
He stares out to the balcony for a few seconds. "To hell with it."
I pour him a glass and he downs it.
I hand him a box of Pocky. He immediately takes one out and starts munching it. "I should be cutting my wedding cake right now."
I lean forward in my chair. "What happened, Kurapika?"
He swallows before looking at me with glassy eyes. "Instead of saying 'I do,' I said, 'I don't.'" He relaxes in his chair. "I'm pretty sure Neon's father is hiring the Zoldyck Family to kill me as we speak, but I don't care. I can't live the rest of my short life pretending to love someone I don't."
"But...you told me you were in love with her."
He reaches into his pocket for a pack of cigarettes and a lighter. "I thought I did. Until you made your confession."
I look away, feeling guilty. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to complicate your life."
He holds the end of the cigarette in between his lips as he lights the other end. He takes a few puffs before looking back at me. "Please. If anything, you made my life better. Now I know what true love feels like." He inhales the smoke from his cigarette and blows it out.
Still feeling tipsy, I hop off my chair and straddle Kurapika. I reach for his cigarette, but he lifts his hand up.
I tickle him. "Who said you could smoke out here?"
He lets out a laugh. "Quit it, (Y/N)."
I tickle him harder. "When did you start that nasty habit anyway?"
He holds his abdomen with his free hand. The sound of his laugh fills my ears and goes straight to my heart.
"I can't...breathe," he says while laughing.
"That's because your lungs are filled with smoke."
"Okay, I surrender." He puts out his cigarette.
I don't give him a chance to recover. I press my lips against his. He immediately parts his lips and I glide my tongue over his, tasting a mixture of cigarette smoke and sake. It tastes good coming from Kurapika.
He bunches up my hair as he deepens our kiss. I feel him harden against my thigh. I can't help but grind against him.
A moan escapes his lips. He pulls away, breathing heavily.
"Wait...I need to apologize," he says.
Really? Now?
"Huh? What for?"
"I'm the one who complicated your life. I filled your head with all of those lies. Turns out, I was telling you the truth the entire time."
I comb his bangs back with my fingers. They fall right back into place. "Yeah, you fucked up my head, but I forgive you."
He pulls my head towards his until our lips meet again. I continue to grind my hips against him as we kiss. He tucks his hands under my jeans.
I run my tongue across his jawline to his ear. "Wanna take this inside?"
He nods.
We stumble our way to my bedroom, leaving a trail of clothes on the floor. I open my legs as soon as I lay back on my bed. He presses into me, causing me to moan loudly. He sends me to Heaven with each thrust.
He positions his right arm under my neck. I throw my head back, giving him better access. He uses his left hand to squeeze my breast. He sucks on my neck as he thrusts in and out of me. He changes rhythm and it sends me over the edge. I call out his name as I reach my climax, floating to the ceiling.
As I descend, he pushes himself deeper and deeper inside of me. "(Y/N), you feel too good, I don't ever want to stop."
Shit, he's drunk...he better remember to pull out!
He clenches his jaw, sweat drops forming on his forehead. It looks like he's using every ounce of strength to pull out of me. "Open your mouth."
I do as he says, taking him into my mouth. Warm fluid gushes out of him and down my throat. I swallow every drop.
He falls down beside me, pulling me close. I feel his heart pound against his chest.
"I'm the luckiest man alive. I love you, (Y/N)."
I trace my fingers over his muscles. "You're telling me the truth this time, right?"
He doesn't answer.
"Kurapika?"
I lift my head and smile. He looks at peace while he sleeps.
Kurapika groans as he wakes up to the sound of his phone vibrating on the floor.
"I knew the phone calls would start soon."
I move off his chest to allow him to answer his phone. I can't stop smiling. Kurapika is finally mine.
He presses his phone against his ear as he smiles back at me.
"Hello, Melody." he says into the phone. His eyes double in size as he listens to his friend on the other end of the phone. "She's what?" he shouts.
I sit up in bed, wondering what's going on.
He ends his call, breathing heavily.
"Is everything okay?" I say.
"It's Neon. She's standing at the top of one of her father's hotels."
I tilt my head to the side.
"She's about to jump!" Kurapika shouts.
Shit.
It's been hours and I still haven't heard from Kurapika. Questions flood my mind as I pace my apartment. What if he took her back? What if he got hurt trying to save her?
My heart sinks when I hear my front door open. I spin around. Relief runs through my veins when I see Kurapika walk in. Other than a scratch on his face, he looks unharmed.
"Kurapika? Are you okay? How's Neon?"
He looks at me with a melancholy expression on his face.
Oh no.
"Kurapika?" I repeat.
"I arrived too late. She...uh...didn't survive the fall."
Hot tears well in my eyes. I was never fond of Neon, but I never wanted her to die. I feel like this is my fault.
I throw myself on Kurapika, allowing the tears to stream down my face. "I'm so so sorry, Kurapika."
He holds me. I can hear him cry quietly. "It's what I do, (Y/N). I hurt people. Like I told you before...you should stay far away from me."
I rub my face into his shoulder. "Stop saying that. I love you. I'm not going anywhere."
His phone vibrates in his pocket. I step to the side. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out his phone. "What now?" He asks while staring at the screen. He presses the accept button before pressing it against his ear. "Yes, Melody?"
I watch as the tears drop from his cheek. I've never seen him cry before.
"Right. Thank you for the update," he says.
He ends his call and slams his fist against the wall. There goes my security deposit.
"What was that about?" I say.
He looks back at me. "Her father. He just shot himself in the head."
I take a few steps back. The aura coming from Kurapika feels uncomfortable.
"(Y/N), I have a funeral to plan. I feel it's the least I can do after leaving her at the altar. You probably won't hear from me for a while."
I reach for his arm. "Do I need to be worried?"
He shakes his head. "No. I have no intentions of harming myself. I just...need to be alone."
"Uh...okay. Will you call me?"
He places his hand on the doorknob. "Yes." He turns it and starts to walk out. "(Y/N)? Please be patient with me."
"Of course."
I watch as he walks out of my apartment. I run into my bedroom and jump on my bed. I grab my pillow and scream into it. I didn't mean for this affair to end like this. I just wanted to feel loved by Kurapika.
Wait...am I crying for the wrong reasons? I should be mourning over the fact that both Neon and her father committed suicide. Instead, I'm crying over if and when I'll see Kurapika again. How can something as beautiful as love make a person so evil?
Am I really evil? Or just in love?
Kurapika has his head in between my legs. It only took him two weeks after the funeral to call me. He told me both Neon and her father suffered from severe depression and he only wanted to help. Unfortunately, he didn't follow through with his promise.
"Ahh..."
I grip the sheets as Kurapika licks me up and down. He places my legs over his shoulders and sucks on my clit. He runs his tongue back down...down...dipping his tongue inside of my entrance.
"Ohh..."
He pulls away and massages my thighs, giving me a break. I arch my back, wanting more. I hear him laugh.
"What's...so...funny?" I say, pushing myself closer to his face.
He pushes a finger deep inside of me, causing me to let out a scream.
"Nothing. I just love making you feel good."
He pushes another finger inside, massaging my walls. He works his fingers inside of me while sucking on my clit. The pleasure is so intense, it should be illegal. He's like a drug, and I'm an addict who would commit murder for him. I shut my eyes, seeing white flecks of light. He picks up his pace, bringing me to my climax. My legs shake uncontrollably. He slows down, knowing I start to get sensitive at this point. He pulls his fingers out of me and gently licks me clean.
He lays beside me and runs his fingers up and down my torso. The sensation leaves goosebumps on my skin.
I turn my head and smile at him. "I love you."
He smiles back. "I love you, too. Now turn around."
I obey, turning on my stomach. He lifts my hips up and presses himself deep inside of me. I lay there as he fucks me.
When he's finished, he wipes my back with a towel.
He hands me my clothes and we both put our clothes back on.
He pulls on a v-neck shirt. "Will you be staying the night?"
I tilt my head to the side, giving him a quizzical look. I thought that was the plan. Or...was he just using me? No, he's not like that.
"Uh...do you want me to stay the night?"
He climbs back in his bed. "That would be nice."
I lay next to him. We both stare at the ceiling. An eerie feeling runs through me as I remember the last time I was in his bed. Neon caught us having sex and she still forgave him. Now she's gone.
"(Y/N)?" he says, interrupting my thoughts.
"Yes?"
"Do you believe in an afterlife?"
"Yeah, you?"
"Yes. Neon didn't."
He must be feeling the same eeriness I am feeling.
"Oh. What do you think happened to her soul?"
He takes my hand in his. "I think she made it to Heaven."
"I think so, too," I lie.
Minutes later, Kurapika falls asleep. I stare at him. He's been through so much in his life. It's obvious he still feels responsible for Neon's death. The truth is, we're both responsible. I should allow him more time to recover.
But...I'm terrible at listening to my instincts.
Alluka slides lipstick over my lips. I stand up and look at myself in the mirror, admiring her skills.
"(Y/N), you're the most beautiful bride in the world!"
We both jump up and down.
"I know, right?" I say.
It's been a little over a year since Kurapika and I started dating. He asked me to marry him, and now I'm minutes away from walking down the aisle. Excitement fills my veins. I don't think life can get any better.
I dab the tears from the corners of my eyes with a handkerchief.
"What are you doing?" Alluka says. "You're going to ruin my hard work!"
"I know. I just can't help it. I've been in love with Kurapika for such a long time, and now my dreams are about to come true."
She gently nudges me. "Stop it. You're going to make me cry, too."
We are interrupted by a knock on the door. I slowly open it, jumping back when I see Leorio.
"Leorio, what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be helping Kurapika get ready?"
"Uh...yeah." He scratches the back of his head.
I turn my head to the side, furrowing my brow. "Leorio? Is something wrong?"
He fidgets with his hands. "It's Kurapika."
I place my hand over my heart. "Oh, Kami...is he hurt?"
"No, he's fine."
I throw my fist down. "Then what the hell is it, Leorio? My wedding is about to start."
His eyes are full of pity as he stares at me. "Kurapika wants me to give you a message."
Oh, how sweet. He can't wait a few more minutes to tell me himself?
"Let's hear it," I say.
Leorio takes a piece of paper out of his pocket and unfolds it. He takes a deep breath before reading me the note. "(Y/N), I want you to know I love you very much. That part was never a lie. I'm just not capable of giving you the love you deserve. That's why I can't marry you. I'm sure you hate me right now, but know it's for your own good. I tried giving you warnings, but you never listened. Just know that you are the love of my life, and nobody will ever replace you. I'm sorry, my love. It pains me to have to return your heart back to you. Maybe we'll cross paths again one day. Until then, take care of yourself. Love, Kurapika."
I stare at nothing as Leorio refolds the letter and places it back in his pocket. He catches me before I fall to the floor. This can't be happening.
"Where is he?" I scream at Leorio.
"He left, sweetheart. I'm so sorry."
I clench my jaw. "Why did you let him leave? As the best man, isn't it your job to make sure the groom makes it to his own wedding?"
He wraps his arms around me. "Trust me...I tried. You know how stubborn he can be." He rubs my back. "But...one thing's for sure. He does love you."
Minutes ago, I felt a happiness I never knew existed. Now, I struggle to breathe as Leorio tries to comfort me.
I met someone named Karma. And let me tell you. She's a real bitch.

Kurapika jolts to a halt. He pulls out of me. "Uh...Neon...I can explain." He grabs the closest piece of fabric to cover his lower half while sitting on the edge of the bed.
