I pass through the doors to Leorio's apartment building, taking the stairs up to his floor. He never locks the door so I just invite myself in. Once I'm inside, I take my shoes off. I walk to the living room and slump down on the couch.
"Hey, (Y/N). Kurapika's not here yet, but make yourself comfortable while you wait." Leorio says, not looking my way.
He's engrossed in one of his medical textbooks. I scoot closer to him, taking a look at what he's reading.
He pulls his book away. A smaller book falls out and lands on the floor. I pick it up and hand it to him. He blushes as he takes it back from me.
I furrow my brow, wondering why he looks embarrassed. I tilt my head to the side, trying to see what he was looking at.
My eyes widen. "Leorio, that's hentai!"
His cheeks turn a darker shade of red.
"Can I see?" I say.
He lowers his eyebrows. "You want to see? Why?"
I shrug my shoulders. "I'm bored." I grab the book from him. "Wow, these girls are really skinny." I flip through the pages. "Does Kurapika look at this stuff?"
Leorio slaps his knee, laughing. "Kurapika? Please...he worships you."
I stare at a picture of a skinny woman with huge, teardrop-shaped breasts. Her stomach is flat and her thighs are perfect. Not one dimple of cellulite.
"You didn't answer my question," I say. "Does Kurapika look at these magazines?"
Leorio looks up at the ceiling. "Hmm...maybe once when we were drunk."
I lift my head and turn to look at him. "And? Does he find these women attractive?"
He points a finger in my face. "Hey, I know what you're trying to do. I'm not going to rat on my best friend."
Disgusted, I throw the magazine back at him. "So what you're basically telling me is yes."
He continues to swoon over the pictures as if I'm not there.
The front door opens. "(Y/N)! I hope you didn't wait long for me. Is everyone ready to go out to dinner?"
Leorio slides his magazine under the couch. He stands up, rubbing his stomach. "Yeah, let's go! I'm famished."
Kurapika walks over to where I'm sitting. He reaches down and kisses me on the cheek. I don't acknowledge him.
He pulls away. A look of confusion crosses his face. "(Y/N)? Have I done something to upset you?"
I finally make eye contact with him. "No. Let's go." I hop off the couch and walk to the front door to put my shoes back on.
Kurapika turns to look at Leorio. "Were you pestering my girlfriend?"
Leorio jumps back. "Now why do you assume it was me?"
Kurapika closes his eyes and sighs. "You're the only one here." He walks to where I'm standing. He places his hand on my cheek. "Can I have a better kiss from the woman who fills my heart with happiness?"
He presses his lips against mine. I give him a quick kiss and pull away.
"C'mon, (Y/N). Give him more tongue than that," Leorio says.
Kurapika scowls at his best friend. "A little privacy would be nice."
Kurapika reaches back down, attempting to get a better kiss from me. I give him one and...oh...he's such a good kisser, it's hard to stop. I wrap my leg around his waist and he pushes me against the kitchen counter.
Leorio clears his throat. "I cook there."
Kurapika releases me. We both blush.
"Sorry...I...uh...let's go," Kurapika says.
We meet the rest of our friends at the restaurant. The smell of the delicious food makes my stomach growl.
I hesitate when it's my turn to order. As much as I want my favorite dish, I chose a salad.
"No dressing, please. And I'll have just water to drink."
Kurapika tilts his head to the side. "(Y/N), we're at your favorite restaurant. Don't you want your usual?"
I shake my head. "I'm actually not that hungry," I lie. I've been thinking about this meal all day. Stupid Leorio had to ruin it for me by showing me those pictures of women and their perfect bodies.
Later that evening, I stare at myself when I get out of the shower. I suck in, trying to look like one of those models.
I'm glad I only ordered a salad at dinner, even though my stomach is constantly reminding me of how hungry I am.
I pull on my nightgown and walk out of the bathroom to look for Kurapika.
I sigh when I see him out on the balcony.
He spins around, hiding something behind his back when I slide the back door open.
"I already saw it," I say.
He hangs his head. "I'm sorry. It's a bad habit I picked up from Izunavi." He puts out the cigarette.
I lean up against the railing next to him. "It's fine, Kurapika." My eyes fall to his pack of cigarettes that are sitting on the small table between the two chairs. Didn't I hear somewhere that smoking actually suppresses your appetite?
I reach out and grab one of cigarettes. "Where's your lighter?"
"Absolutely not." He snatches the cigarette out of my mouth.
I pout. "So it's okay for you to smoke, but not me?"
He shakes his head. "No. It's bad for your health."
I cross my arms over my chest and look away from him. "Hmph. You know you're being a hypocrite?"
He lets out a soft laugh. "You're adorable. Let's go back inside."
I wait for Kurapika to finish his shower. We never go to sleep without each other.
He crawls in bed next to me, taking me into his arms. His hair is still a little damp. The smell of his shampoo enters my nostrils and goes straight to my brain. The mixture of bergamot, apples, and his own natural scent makes my legs open involuntarily.
His lips brush my neck. "Waiting for me?"
I tilt my head, giving him better access. "Y...yeah."
His tongue glides down my neck and stops at my shoulder. He pulls down the straps to my nightgown, peeling it off of me along with my panties. He didn't bother putting on any clothes, making it easier for me to reach down and grab his erection. I throw my head back. I want to feel him deep inside of me.
"Patience, my beautiful goddess," he says.
Why does he love to tease me?
I feel his fingertips slide down my torso. My eyes widen. He'll feel my belly pooch! I move his hand away.
He gives me a puzzled look. "(Y/N), is everything okay? Or is it that time of the..."
Heat rises to my cheeks. "No, Kurapika. I just want to focus on you tonight."
I move down between his legs, taking him into my mouth. He lets out a deep moan, thrusting his hips up. I hold his shaft while bobbing my head up and down. I lick his precum, savoring the taste. I lock my eyes with his. They're full of lust. I can easily let him finish. Then I wouldn't have to worry about him feeling every lump of fat on my body. But...I so badly want him to take me.
I pull away and watch as his perfect chest rises and falls. How did he get so lucky? I never see him work out yet there's not an ounce of fat on his body.
"Come here, beautiful," he says.
I hesitate before crawling back up to him. He flips me over so he's on top. His eyes leave mine and they move down my body. He reaches down and sucks on one of my breasts. He probably wishes they were bigger.
I gasp when he presses himself inside of me. A smile plays on his lips as he pulls back...then plunges back in. He lifts one of my legs, pressing himself deeper inside. Each thrust sends me to the stars. That is until I look down. I see my disgusting belly fat fold as our bodies collide.
"Kurapika," I whisper.
He continues to thrust in and out of me.
"Uh...yeah?"
"You forgot to turn off the light."
He stops moving, furrowing his brow as he looks at me. "Huh? I never turn off the light when I make love to you."
I bite my lip. "Well...can you?"
He looks at the lamp then back at me. "But...I won't be able to see you."
That's the point.
"Please?"
He reaches over and turns the lamp off. I smile. Now I can pretend to look like one of those girls in Leorio's magazine.
His lips find mine and I moan into his mouth. Every time he pulls out, he leaves me feeling empty. When he's back in, I hold him tight. I force him to stay, grinding against him. He knows what I'm doing and allows me to use his body for my pleasure. My moans become louder as I ride him from underneath his body. My greedy sweet spot gets all the attention until...
It bursts, sending ecstasy throughout my entire body.
"Ahh...uhh...ohh...Kurapika!" I shudder beneath him.
I fall back, melting into the mattress. He finally pulls back out, and continues to fuck me. He hates to use that term, saying he prefers to make love to me. But...it's anything but that.
A combination of grunts and moans leave Kurapika's throat. His thrusts become uneven. His body shudders against mine as he fills me.
He falls on me, breathing heavily. Once he recovers, he reaches over to the bedside table and turns on the lamp.
What's his obsession with the damn light?
The corners of his lips move upward into a soft smile as he takes my face into his hands. "There you are, beautiful." He plants a kiss on my forehead.
He pulls out of me and crawls out of bed. I immediately grab the comforter to cover my body. I stare at him while he reaches into the dresser for a pair of pajamas. His body is...perfect. What is he doing with a glob like me? I need to make sure he doesn't notice until I shed some pounds.
The next morning, he places a bowl of rice in front of me.
I push it away. "No, thank you. I'm not hungry."
He gives me a look of worry. "But you barely ate anything last night. You have to be hungry."
"I just told you, I'm not!"
He jumps back. I didn't mean to yell at him. I just don't know how I'm going to lose weight if he keeps shoving food in my face.
I hop off the stool and wrap my arms around him. "I'm sorry, Kurapika. I'm just not feeling well this morning."
He rests his hands on my lower back. "Then you should go back to bed. I have a busy day ahead of me. I want you to rest."
I turn around, forcing him to let go of me. "Yeah. I think I will."
He takes my bowl away. "I'll wrap this up in case you want it later."
He walks me back to bed and gives me a goodbye kiss. "I'll be back as soon as I can. Until then...take care of yourself. I love you."
"I love you, too, Kurapika. Please...be safe."
Once I hear the front door lock, I hop out of bed and throw away the breakfast he made me. I look around the kitchen, throwing away anything that will tempt me. By the time I'm finished, we barely have any food left.
My stomach growls. I'm already tempted to reach into the trash for some mochi so I decide to wrap it up and take it outside.
When I return, I head to the balcony. I let out a sigh of relief when I notice Kurapika left his cigarettes and lighter. I take one into my shaky hands and light it up. I take a few puffs, not knowing what I'm doing.
As soon as I inhale, I cough from the burning sensation. How does he smoke these things?
Once I get the hang of it, I smoke until I'm physically sick. I walk back inside of the apartment for a glass of water. Zero calories, right? I decide to have a bowl of ice for breakfast. The cold from the ice feels good going down my burning throat.
When I'm finished, I decide to work out. After changing, I take the stairs down to the building's gym.
I'm barely able to walk back up the stairs after my workout. I unlock the door and fall to the floor.
"(Y/N)!"
I hear Kurapika's voice behind me. I open my eyes. The room spins around me as I sit up.
He picks me up and takes me to the couch. "Babydoll, you look pale."
I rest my head on his shoulder. "Yeah, I think I overdid it at the gym."
He strokes my hair. "I brought home some takeout. Are you hungry?"
Why is he always asking me that?
"No." I smell the food from the kitchen. My mouth salivates. "Actually, yeah."
He helps me walk to the kitchen.
I eat until my stomach feels like exploding.
Kurapika raises his eyebrows. "Wow, you were hungry! Would you like something to drink?"
I rest my hands on my abdomen. "Water, please."
He walks to the refrigerator and opens the door. "What happened to all of our food?"
I look away. "Oh...uh...I did a little purging today. I threw out all the expired food."
He closes the fridge and turns back to me. "I didn't realize we kept that much expired food. What a waste."
I feel a little guilty for wasting all that food. That guilt quickly subsides and turns into anxiety. I just ate like the pig I am! All of that work today was for nothing.
Kurapika reaches into the bag. "Oh, I almost forgot. I bought dessert!"
I eat that, too.
I sit on the cold bathroom floor, raking my fingers through my hair. I'll never look like those models!
I pinch my stomach. I suddenly have an idea!
I pull my hair back into a ponytail and kneel in front of the toilet. I stick my index finger down my throat until I feel myself gag. I throw up a little, but not enough. I keep making myself throw up until I'm confident all the food I ate is no longer in my stomach.
I flush the toilet and walk to the sink. A satisfied grin spreads across my face as I reach for my toothbrush.
After brushing my teeth, I walk to our bedroom. I make sure to turn off the lamp before crawling in bed with Kurapika. He's not going to see me naked until I lose this weight.
One month later
Killua invited all of us to go surfing with him. I get ready, feeling nervous about being seen in a bathing suit.
I almost jump for joy when my bikini bottoms fall off as soon as I put them on.
My diet plan is working! I drink black coffee for breakfast which only has two calories and works as an appetite suppressant. Much better than those nasty cigarettes! For lunch, I allow myself two saltine crackers. If Kurapika isn't around, I skip dinner. If he happens to cook or bring something home, I just throw it up after eating.
I walk out of the bathroom holding my bikini in my hand. "Hey, darling? We need to stop by the surf shop on the way to the beach. I need a new bathing suit."
He smiles. "Of course. As long as I get to slip it off of you later."
I grip my beach towel around my body as we find our friends. Kurapika opens a lounge chair for me, and I decide to take the towel off.
"Woah," Killua says.
Gon's eyes widen as he looks in my direction.
"Kurapika!" shouts Leorio. "You lucky bastard."
Kurapika looks at his friends in confusion. He follows their line of sight which leads to me.
"Why is everyone staring at my girlfriend?"
"Because she's a hottie," Leorio says, wiping the drool away from his mouth.
Kurapika stares at me as if he's looking at me for the first time. He sits next to me, tucking some of my hair behind my ear. "(Y/N), have you lost weight?"
I shrug. "Umm...maybe a few pounds."
Kurapika shakes his head. "Now I know I work too much. I haven't even noticed."
I give him a kiss on the cheek. "Don't be so hard on yourself."
He offers me a soft smile. "Well...you look great."
I take a nice long shower when we get home. I wash all the sand out of my hair. When I get out, I brush my hair. "What the?" I say out loud. Clumps of hair fall out as I brush it.
I don't think too much into it as I walk out of the bathroom in nothing but my towel.
Kurapika's eyes widen when he sees me. I drop the towel and he drops his jaw.
He hops off of the bed and runs toward me. He gently pushes me against the wall, pressing his lips against my neck.
I feel his hand working as he slides it down until he reaches the wet area between my legs. He dips one of his fingers inside of me. He supports my waist with his arm, pressing deeper.
My heart rate accelerates and I'm having trouble breathing.
"Can we leave the lights on?" Kurapika says. "You're so beautiful...I can't keep my eyes off of you."
I nod, unable to speak.
I feel another finger dip inside of me. My legs start to shake and I hold onto him for support.
He lifts me up and takes me to our shared bed. His eyes never leave mine as he undresses himself. I get on my knees, desperately wanting to ride him.
For once, I feel confident enough for him to stare at my body as I rock back and forth on him. He plays with my breasts while I lift my hips up and down. He lifts his pelvis, pushing himself deeper inside of me.
I stare into his scarlet eyes. He wants me...he loves me...he needs me.
I actually scream his name as he repeatedly hits my sweet spot.
Without the extra weight, he easily lifts me up and down his length.
He writhes in pleasure. "(Y/N)? Are you close? I don't know how much longer I'm going to last."
I come to the sound of his voice.
He flips me over and places my legs over his shoulders. The bed moves across the floor as he thrusts in and out of me. I come again. He grabs my waist and throws his head back as he releases himself inside of me.
My stare at my boyfriend through blurry eyes. My heart pounds and my lungs attempt to keep up.
"That was...the best...orgasm...I've ever had," he says, panting.
I smile. I knew he would love me more if I lost weight.
Maybe he'll be even happier if I lost just a few more pounds. More is better, right?
He pulls out and lays next to me in bed. He runs his fingers through my hair. He stares at his hand with widened eyes.
"(Y/N), your hair! Why is it falling out?"
"Oh, I switched shampoos and I don't think it agrees with my hair," I lie.
He thinks about my answer. "Oh. I think you should throw it out immediately."
"I will." I caress his cheek with the back of my fingers. How is it possible to have this much love for a human being? I'd throw myself in front of a train for this man.
"Are you hungry?" he says. I swear that's his favorite question.
I'm famished. "No," I lie again.
"That's too bad. I have a special dessert for you. I made it myself."
"Well...in that case...I can't say no."
I sit at the table and wait for Kurapika to serve me dinner. He lights a couple of candles and I start to wonder why.
He pours me a glass of wine. All I can think about is the amount of calories that I'm about to drink. Probably two hundred.
"Do you mind if we have dessert first?"
I shake my head.
Instead of something edible, he places a tiny box in front of me. I stare at it as he takes a seat in front of me.
He reaches across the table and grabs my hands. I try to focus on Kurapika and not the room that is spinning around me. The wooden table greets my face as I pass out.
When I open my eyes, I see Kurapika fanning me. I'm in bed with a cold washcloth over my forehead.
"Kurapika?"
A look of relief washes over him.
"(Y/N)? Thank Kami, you're all right." He lifts my head and places a straw in my mouth. "Here. You must be dehydrated from all the sun you got today."
I take a long sip of the refreshing ice water. "Yeah, you're right. We did get too much sun."
He kisses my lips. "You gave me quite a scare. How are you feeling?"
"I'm fine." I sit up in bed. "What was in that little box?"
"It was nothing. Now rest."
Two months later
I stare at the pregnancy test in front of me. I take a deep breath. The extra line doesn't appear. Thank goodness. A baby would just make me fat again. But...that doesn't explain why I missed my last two periods.
I toss the test in the trash, shrugging my shoulders. Oh, well. One less thing I have to worry about.
I take a look at myself before heading down to the gym. I must say...I'm pretty damn proud of myself for keeping up with my diet.
I start off walking on the treadmill. I increase the incline to the treadmill and pick up the pace. A strange feeling takes over my body. Flecks of light surround me. I must be thirsty. I pick up my water bottle and take a sip. Feeling a little better, I increase the speed. I see one of the trainers run to me out of the corner of my eye.
I fall into and out of consciousness as Kurapika carries me out of the gym. The trainer must have called him. I close my eyes, allowing the warmth of his body to drift me off to sleep.
When I open my eyes, I'm blinded by the white walls. The sound of constant beeping fills my ears. I immediately sit up. Why the hell am I in a hospital?
Lava flows through my veins. I pull out the IV that's in my arm. Who knows what's in that bag of fluids? I've probably been given thousands of calories while I was passed out. What's more important is...who gave them permission to do this to me?
"(Y/N)! What are you doing?" Kurapika shouts. He frantically searches the room for something to place over my arm. He pulls a few paper towels from the dispenser. I don't look at him while he presses the paper towel over where my IV used to be. "Why did you do that?"
I wince, realizing it was him who brought me here. I slowly turn to face him. "Kurapika, I thought you loved me."
He presses the off button to the IV pump. He looks at me with glassy eyes, lowering his eyebrows in confusion. He adds pressure to my arm to stop the bleeding. "What do you mean? I love you more than anything, (Y/N)."
I push my boyfriend away. "Then why did you bring me here?"
He breaks his fall with his arms. I don't like the way he's looking at me. He scans me with his eyes like I'm a stranger.
"(Y/N)...are you serious? You passed out in my arms. I've never experienced anything more frightening in my life."
I cross my arms over my chest. "Take me home."
He shakes his head as he walks back toward me. "No. Not until we find out what's wrong with you."
I lower my arms, twisting the blanket with my hands. "Kurapika," I take a deep breath. "Take me home. Now."
He sits down on the bed. "No, (Y/N). You can't go home."
I glare at him. "And who are you to tell me I can't?"
"Your caring boyfriend." He reaches across the bed for my hand.
I pull away before he has the chance to touch me. "Exactly. You're my boyfriend. Nothing more."
He grips his chest. My words must have stung him. "If nothing more, then why does my heart ache like it does?"
The door creaks open, and our heads involuntarily check to see who it is. A woman delivering my lunch tray approaches me.
"Get that out of here!" I shout at the innocent woman.
She hangs her head. "I...I'm sorry, ma'am."
Kurapika raises his hand. "Just leave it here, please."
She places the tray on my bedside table and rushes out of my room.
A look of disappointment crosses Kurapika's face. I can feel his judgment. "Now was that really necessary? She's just doing her job."
"If you want to eat it then fine. But I don't want any of it."
He dips the spoon into the soup, blowing the steam away. He places the spoon in front of my face. "Just a little broth, please. You haven't eaten in days."
I smack the soup away from his hand. Some of the hot broth lands on his face.
"Dammit, (Y/N). That hurt. What has gotten into you?" He wipes his face with a napkin.
I don't answer him.
He gets up and walks toward the window, pressing his palm against his forehead. "I wish I knew what was going on in your head. You've been very secretive lately, and I don't like it."
The door opens again, and a man wearing a white lab coat approaches me. He's holding my chart.
"Are you (Y/N)?"
I nod.
He extends his hand. I ignore him.
Kurapika walks over to shake his hand. "I'm Kurapika, (Y/N)'s boyfriend. Are you her doctor?"
"One of them. I'm Dr. Forger, her psychiatrist."
"Psychiatrist?" Kurapika repeats. "Why does (Y/N) need a psychiatrist?"
"Do you mind leaving the room? I'd like to talk to my patient in private," the doctor says.
Kurapika shakes his head. "Of course I mind. This woman has given me a purpose in life and I want to be a part of her care."
The doctor looks at me for approval.
I nod. "He can stay."
"Okay, then let's get right to it. The hospitalist consulted me because he thinks you might have an eating disorder."
Kurapika sits next to me. His hand finds mine. "A what?" Kurapika says.
The doctor goes on and on about the symptoms of anorexia nervosa and bulimia. Kurapika's eyes are focused on the doctor as he listens intently.
"Doctor?" I interrupt. "Didn't you go to medical school? It's called a diet, you idiot."
Kurapika's head slowly turns to face me. "(Y/N), please. Don't disrespect him. He's only trying to help."
I scowl at Kurapika. So he's on the doctor's side?
I pull my hand away from Kurapika's. "You know what? On second thought, I would like Kurapika to leave the room."
He lowers his eyebrows. "What? (Y/N)...I..."
"Get out!" I point to the door.
Kurapika hangs his head as he stands up and walks out of my room.
Once the door closes behind him, I glance at the doctor. His pen is going crazy as he writes in my chart.
"You can leave, too."
He doesn't look surprised. "Very well, then."
Once he leaves, I lay back and cover myself with the blanket. My teeth shatter as I try to warm myself up. I feel disgusted with men. They have no idea what we go through just to please them. I close my eyes and cry until I fall asleep.
"(Y/N)?"
I feel Kurapika touch my cheek.
I open my eyes. My eyes fall to the bouquet of flowers in his hand. Why do men think they can fix everything with flowers?
I slowly sit up in bed. "Are you here to take me home?"
He sits next to me, putting the flowers aside. He takes my face in his hands. "You know I love you, right?"
I nod, not making eye contact with him.
He leans forward and presses his lips against my forehead. He reaches behind and grabs the bouquet of flowers. "These are for you. I was hoping to see that beautiful smile of yours."
I stare at the flowers. They are actually pretty.
"You didn't answer my question. Are you here to take me home?"
I see his Adam's apple roll as he swallows. "Not yet, my love."
Hot tears of anger well up in my eyes. I grab the flowers and throw them on the floor. "What the hell do you mean? You can't force me to stay!"
He grabs the sides of my head. "Shh...calm down. It's not me...it's the doctor. He believes you're a harm to yourself and wants you to stay."
I push his hands away from me. "That idiot? Who is he to take away my rights? I'm pretty sure he's not even a real doctor."
He stares at the flowers on the floor. I can see pools of tears forming in his eyes. "I'm sorry, (Y/N). But I agree with him. I know I'm not a very good boyfriend. I should have noticed the signs sooner." He lifts his head and looks at me. "You know you can confide in me, right?"
I hold my knees against my chest. "I don't know, Kurapika. You're the one who brought me here in the first place."
A tear falls down his face. "What did you expect me to do? Honestly, (Y/N). What should I have done?"
Tears stream down my face as I try to come up with an answer. I feel his warm breath against my ear. His fingers trail down my arm.
"Don't cry, babydoll. We'll get through this together. Just please. Answer my questions."
I sniffle. "What questions?"
He pulls away. His eyes widen when he notices my body under the hospital gown. He looks in the other direction wearing a pained expression on his face.
Panic runs through my veins. "What's wrong? Do I look fat?"
He turns his head back to me. "What? No. Your body is swimming in that gown." He rests his forehead against his palm. "You're vanishing. What happened?"
I sob into the blanket that's covering my knees. "Leorio told me you liked those super skinny women from his hentai magazines."
"Wait...what? I'm sorry...I'm confused." He places his hand on my shoulder. "Take a few deep breaths and tell me again."
I lift my head and take three deep breaths. Once I'm calm, I look into Kurapika's waiting eyes.
"Leorio told me you were both drunk and you enjoyed looking at those women in his magazine. And I know you when you're drunk. You can't lie."
"So what you're telling me is...you started this so-called diet because of something Leorio said?" He pinches the bridge of his nose. "I might have to murder my best friend."
I look down and place my breasts in my hands. "I'm sorry my boobs aren't bigger."
He punches the empty space next to him. "(Y/N)! Please. Stop talking nonsense. I don't care about things like that. I love you...just the way you are...or rather...the way you were."
I turn my head to the side. "You're just saying that. Let me guess...you're in love with my personality, too. That's what all guys say to fat girls."
He gently grabs my chin. "Look at me. I can remember the day I first laid eyes on you. You were waiting for the train, wearing a sundress. I remember staring at that dress, loving the way it flowed down your body. Thoughts ran through my mind. Thoughts that made me feel embarrassed."
Kurapika
My best friend attempts to push me in the direction of this mysterious girl. I've seen her a few times, waiting for the train.
"But...I don't know what to say. I've never done this before," I say.
Leorio combs my hair with his fingers and straightens my collar. "Just go up to her and pay her a compliment."
I look back in her direction. A compliment. That's easy.
"Okay. Then what?"
Leorio laughs at me. "Then ask if she'd like to have coffee with you."
My heart rate increases. "No. I can't. A girl that beautiful can't be single."
He spins me around. "You'll never know unless you ask." He pushes me.
I practically fall down the stairs, causing her to look my way. I feel myself blush. I look over my shoulder back to Leorio. He's motioning for me to continue walking.
"Uh...uh...hello," I say.
She turns to face me. "Hello."
"I...like...your...dress," Knots form in my stomach. I can feel the sweat drops forming on my forehead.
She giggles. "Thank you."
I nod. "Do you...like coffee?"
She lowers her eyebrows. "Yes. You?"
"Yes."
"That's nice," she says.
I scratch the back of my head. "Uh...would you like me to buy you some?"
The corners of her lips move upward into the most beautiful smile I've ever seen. The entire station brightens. "Are you asking if I'd like to have coffee with you?"
"Yes. It's okay if you say no..."
"I'd love to," she interrupts.
I jump back, surprised she actually agreed. "Yeah?"
"Yeah." She extends her hand. "I'm (Y/N). It's a pleasure to meet you."
Of course her name would be (Y/N). Such a beautiful name for the goddess she is.
I gently shake her hand. I've never felt skin so soft before. "I'm Kurapika. The pleasure is all mine."
How long should a handshake last? I'm not ready to let go yet.
She looks down at our hands. "Shall we go now, Kurapika?"
I finally let go. "Yes, (Y/N). We shall."
She spins on her heels, walking toward the stairs. I follow her, glancing at Leorio. He grins from ear to ear, giving me a thumbs up.
And that's how I met the love of my life...you.
A few weeks later...
"Leorio, I think I might be falling for (Y/N)."
He lifts his head from his textbook to look at me. "Really? Already?"
"Yes, she's amazing! She's so kind, intelligent, and..."
"Hot?" my friend interrupts.
Heat rises to my cheeks. "Yes."
He slaps my knee. "I'm happy for you, Sunshine! I bet the sex is incredible."
My mouth falls open. "S...sex?"
Leorio furrows his brow. "Wait...you two haven't done it yet?"
I shake my head. "Isn't it too early for that? I mean...I haven't even kissed her."
My friend practically falls off the couch. "What are you waiting for?"
I chew the inside of my cheek. "I...don't know how."
He gives me a mischievous smile. "Well...you've come to the right place. I'll teach you everything you need to know. Hell...I'll even let you practice on me if you want."
I raise my hands up. "Uh...no, thank you."
He laughs. "I was kidding. Anyway, take her somewhere romantic. Like the river or something. Tell her how beautiful she looks, then tuck some of her hair behind her ear. Lean in slowly and lightly brush your lips against hers. Be patient...if she wants more, she'll part her lips. That's when you slip your tongue inside." He lifts his index finger. "But remember...not too much tongue. Girls hate that."
I nod. "Right. Not too much tongue. Got it."
He leans back and reaches into his pocket. He pulls out his wallet and opens it. "Here you go."
He hands me a square piece of foil.
I take it from him, inspecting it. "What's this?"
He holds his abdomen while laughing.
My eyes widen when I realize what it is. "Oh...oh!"
"You're hopeless," Leorio says.
I raise my eyebrow. "Hey, I'm an orphan, remember? I didn't have a father to teach me this stuff."
He gently punches my shoulder. "I'm just messin' with ya. You'll do fine. And you know what? If she doesn't like it, then she's not the one for you."
I smile. "Thank you, Leorio."
That evening...
I take your hand in mine as we walk on the pathway alongside the river. The stars are extra bright tonight. Or that could just be you.
"You look gorgeous tonight, (Y/N)."
You glance my way, shyly. "Thank you. You're very sweet."
I stop walking. You tilt your head to the side. "Is everything okay?"
"Yes...I...uh..."
I grab your waist and pull you closer to me. I tuck some of your hair behind your ear. I lean in closer until my lips brush yours. I close my eyes, waiting for you to invite me in. I press a little harder. I wait. How long am I supposed to wait?
I give up and pull away. My stomach is a knotted mess. I've never felt more embarrassed in my life.
"Want to try that again?" you ask me, stroking the back of my hair.
Your lips are already on mine before I have the chance to answer. You part your lips, and I slip my tongue inside. It finds yours and...oh...my...this feels amazing. Your lips were made for mine.
Desperately needing air, we pull away from each other.
"I love you," I say.
I can feel my heartbeat in my ears. Those words just came out!
You rest your head on my chest. "I love you, too, Kurapika."
Less than an hour later...
We hurriedly take off our shoes as soon as we enter your apartment. You grab my hand, guiding me to your bedroom. We continue to kiss until we fall on your bed. I love the way your sheets smell...like a cherry blossom tree after rain has fallen.
You rest your head on your elbow. A big smile crosses your face. "I've never been in love before. It feels like I'm flying through the galaxy," you say.
The anxiety I felt seconds ago disappears. Instead of trying to figure out what to do next, I allow my heart to do what feels right.
We stand on our knees on top of your bed. We keep our eyes locked while we take turns undressing each other.
My eyes leave yours as I explore your body. Perfection. I reach out and feel your skin. I want to kiss every part of you. I want to memorize the locations of every birthmark you have. Most of all, I want to feel what it's like to be inside of you.
You look down and cover your breasts with your arms. I pull your arms away.
"There's no need to feel shy. I've never seen such beauty before. You're like a work of art."
I reach down and take one of your breasts into my mouth. I use my hand to gently squeeze your other one. I switch sides and feel my already erect penis pulsate.
You lay on your back with your legs spread.
I swallow hard...you keep surprising me. Every part of you is beyond beautiful. My hands trail up your thighs, pass your torso, and land back on your breasts. I reach down and press my lips against your ear.
"Do you feel comfortable with me?" I whisper.
"Yes."
"And are you sure you want to do this?"
"Please."
As much as it pains me to leave you, I crawl off the bed. I search inside of my pants pocket and pull out the condom my friend gave me.
I rush back over to you and kiss your flushed cheeks. I stare into your eyes as I press myself inside of you. We both allow moans to escape our throats. Yes. I am now convinced you were made just for me. From this moment on, my mission is to keep you safe and happy.
(Y/N)
"Why are you telling me this? I was there," I say, turning my face away from him.
"Don't hide your face from me, (Y/N). I'm telling you this because my feelings for you haven't changed. In fact, they grow with every day that passes. Do you feel the same way about me?"
"I did."
He raises his eyebrows. "Did? What are you saying, (Y/N)?"
I can see his hands tremble.
I don't answer him. Instead, I allow the tears to flow down my cheeks.
"Just go, Kurapika. I want to be alone."
I bury my face back into my knees. I can hear Kurapika cry softly.
The bed gets lighter as he stands up.
"You don't mean that, do you?"
He kisses my head and I hear his loafers clap the floor as he leaves the room. I lift my head back up once I hear the door close.
I notice a small box on my bedside table. It's the same box he tried to give me a few months ago. I open it and gasp.
I take out the vintage style yellow gold ring adorned with scarlet jewels. I can't understand the engraving inside of it, but it doesn't matter. This is the most beautiful ring I've ever seen. I wonder where he found it. You can't find something this unique at a jewelry store.
Why did he give this to me? Something this pretty shouldn't be worn by a fat girl like me.
My heart skips a beat when I hear the door open. I turn my head to see who it is.
"I heard you pulled out your IV."
Oh. It's just the nurse.
"Yeah, and I refuse anymore treatment."
I turn my attention back to the ring.
"Wow, that's a pretty ring!" she says. "Did that blonde man out there give that to you?"
I look back at her. "Wait...he's still here?"
"Yeah. He won't leave. I feel bad because he wants to see your lab results, but I can't show him without your permission. Do you mind if I share your medical information with him?"
"I don't care."
Kurapika
I lean up against the wall, waiting for your nurse to leave your room. I hope you give her permission to allow me to see your health records. If space is what you need, then I shall give it to you. However, that's not going to stop me from caring about you.
To be honest, I'm confused as hell. I understand you are having mood swings because you're starving yourself, but...why are you taking it out on me?
I check the clock. What is taking your nurse so long? She told me she would be in and out.
An alarm sounds and suddenly, all of the nurses rush down the hall.
"Code Blue, room three hundred twenty-eight," someone announces through the intercom.
Room three twenty-eight.
No.
I run back to your room, but it's too crowded to see what's going on. I try to ask, but everyone is too focused on you.
People fear death not because they are afraid of dying. It's the fear of the unknown. That's the only way to describe what I'm feeling right now. I'm scared because I don't know what happened or what the outcome will be. I can only hope that you are safe.
I fall to the floor. I can actually see my heartbeat as it pounds against my chest, similar to the way I feel after overusing Emperor Time.
My precious (Y/N), why? I made sure to compliment you every day. It was never out of habit. I meant every single one. Yet you still felt the need to starve yourself to look better for me. You can't improve something that's already perfect.
Three months later...
I get back on my feet after staring at the tombstone for almost two hours. I say one more goodbye before turning around to leave the cemetery.
I shut the door after getting in my car. I sigh before pressing the ignition button. It's time to start a new chapter in my life. I drive away from the cemetery to a facility I'm too familiar with.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Kurta," the receptionist says.
This will be my last encounter with her. I sign the necessary paperwork and walk to the waiting area. I sit down in one of the hard chairs, resting my head in my hands.
"Kurapika?"
I lift my head.
"(Y/N)?" I run to you and wrap my arms around your waist, lifting you in the air. I spin you around and place you back on your feet. "Let's get out of here."
After spending months at a special eating disorder treatment center, you're finally ready to come home.
I strap your seat belt and close your door. I walk over to the driver's side wearing a huge smile on my face.
As soon as I get in, you reach over and kiss me.
"How was your morning, sweetheart?" you ask me as you pull away.
"It was good. I went to the cemetery to visit my parents. I finally told my mother I gave you her ring." I take some of your hair in between my fingers. "Damn. I wish the two of you had the chance to meet. She would have adored you."
You take my hand and bring it to your lips. You kiss my fingers. "And I would have adored her as well. I mean...she did give birth to the man of my dreams."
My eyes fall on your left hand. "Until I find the remaining scarlet eyes, that ring is all I have of hers. I can't imagine giving it to anyone else but you."
You look at the precious ring on your finger. "Oh, you never told me what it says inside."
"It says, 'you are my life.' It's written in the language of the Kurta."
Tears well up in your eyes. "They were in love, weren't they?"
I nod.
You wipe away your tears with your hand. "It's not fair. They didn't deserve to leave this world so early."
I run my thumb over your cheek. "None of them did."
"I'm sorry, Kurapika. I didn't mean to bring it up."
I move across the console. "You didn't. And don't ever apologize for asking about my parents. I enjoy talking about them."
I whisper some words of endearment into your ear in my language. You show me your arm.
"You're giving me goosebumps!"
I smile. "Nothing makes me happier." I point to the box in the backseat. "I brought your dress. Let's make a quick stop before going home."
"You may now kiss the bride," the officiant says.
I gladly place my lips over yours. We share our first kiss as husband and wife.
Our friends take us out to dinner. You still don't eat much, but at least you eat some. The doctor told me it still may take a while until you fully recover. There is a chance you might never recover. However, I remain optimistic. Luckily, we caught you when you were only months in.
You didn't realize how serious your condition was until you went into cardiac arrest at the hospital.
Your nurse kneels in front of me. "Sir? She's fine."
I suck in a breath of air in an attempt to fill my lungs.
I can't believe my ears. "She's...fine?"
The nurse nods. "Yes. Her potassium level is critically low. Simply put, potassium affects the heart's electrical system. We are giving her potassium through an IV."
"Can I see her?"
She stands back up. "Of course. She's asking for you."
I race back into your room. My heart starts to ache when I see your bloodshot eyes and tear-stained cheeks. "My babydoll!" I sit next in the bed, taking you into my arms.
"Kurapika!" You sob into my shoulder. "I'm so sorry for putting you through this. I'm so scared."
I hold your head with one hand while running my other hand up and down your back. I can feel every rib. "Don't be scared. I'm here."
I pull back, adjusting your oxygen tubing. I kiss you on your lips.
You reach up and grab my collar. "I love you, Kurapika. I'm sorry for being so mean to you."
I smile. "I know you love me. You have my heart."
You frantically look around your bed. "Oh, no...the ring! Where's the ring?"
I panic on the inside. I'd never forgive myself if I lost that ring. "Uh...calm down. We'll find it." Relief washes over me when I notice the box sitting on the bedside table. I snatch it and open it immediately. "It's right here."
I take your left hand and slide off the bed. I stand on one knee.
"(Y/N), I need to ask you something."
Tears stream down your cheeks. There's that beautiful smile of yours. It's been so long since I've seen it.
Dammit...why am I nervous all of a sudden? Words. I need words.
"Kas sa abielluksid minuga?"
You shake your head. My heart sinks to my stomach. You just rejected my proposal.
What happens now? Do we pretend this never happened?
Embarrassed, I get back on my feet. I sit in a chair next to your bed. I turn my head away from you. I want to...cry.
"Kurapika?"
I sniffle, wiping my eyes. "Uh...yeah?"
"Were you trying to ask me something?"
I turn my head to face you. "Yes. Did you not understand me?"
"No. You were talking in a different language."
I jolt up. "Wait...so you didn't reject me?"
"Kurapika, you're acting strange. Can you ask me again? This time, in my language."
I take a deep breath. I can't mess up this time. I take my place back on one knee.
"(Y/N)...I had this entire speech prepared, but the words just fell out of my brain. Sorry we are not somewhere romantic, but...will you marry me? Please answer me now...I'm about to go insane." The words came out so fast, I hope you understood me this time.
Your smile grows. You grab your abdomen as you laugh. Why are you laughing?
"Kurapika, that sounded more like a rap than a proposal. Of course I'll marry you!"
"You...will?"
"Come here." You wrap your arms around my neck. "And I wouldn't care if you proposed in the middle of the landfill. I'd still say yes."
I smile. "Let's get you better. We have an exciting future to look forward to."
Melody pulls me aside once we finish eating.
"Yes, Melody?"
We walk until we're standing outside the restaurant, away from the other customers.
"I just want to tell you...your heart has changed so much since the first time I heard it. I'm afraid your rage...is gone. Instead, your heart plays a beautiful song of love. I'm happy for you."
"That was my biggest fear, huh? To be honest, I didn't expect someone to fall in love with me. But (Y/N) didn't see my broken pieces."
Melody smiles. "That's because she fixed them."
I smile back at her. "You're right. Thank you, Melody.
Later that evening...
I carry you over the threshold. As soon as I set you down, we frantically pull each other's clothes off. You laugh against my lips as we attempt to walk to our bedroom.
Just a few more feet away. No, that's too far. I fall to the floor, taking you with me. I flip you over so I'm on top. You look so fragile...I'm afraid I might break you.
I guess you're not as fragile as you look. You wrap your legs around me as I press myself inside of you.
I want to ravish you.
I want to hear you scream my name.
I want you to have trouble standing without support in the morning.
That's how I want to make love to you. And that's exactly what I do.
Six months later...
"(Y/N)?" I finish loading the dishwasher. I press the start button and walk out of the kitchen to find you.
I walk into our bedroom. The light is on in the bathroom. I knock on the door. "(Y/N), did you want some dessert?"
You don't answer. I slowly open the door. I jump back as soon as I see the sight in front of me.
You lift your head out of the toilet and look over your shoulder at me.
"Kurapika, it's not what it looks like."
This can't be. I've been watching you. You haven't lost any weight since I brought you back home.
"It looks like you are throwing up," I say, suppressing my anger.
You turn around, wiping your mouth with a washcloth. "I am. But not on purpose."
Your eyes are locked with mine. You don't appear to be lying to me.
"Was it the dinner I prepared for you?"
You shake your head. "No."
"Then what could it be?"
You take a deep breath.
"I'm pregnant."
