"Tilly?" My heart rate increases. "Shouldn't you still be in prison?"
She shrugs her shoulders. I can hear her heels clap against the floor as she closes the gap between us.
"I have a good lawyer." She rests her hand on my chest. "I hear congratulations are in order. You married your hunter!"
I nod, still not believing she's standing in front of me. "Uh...thanks."
She takes her hand off my chest and covers her mouth as she laughs.
I raise an eyebrow. "What's so funny?"
She shakes her head, slapping my arm. "Oh, (Y/N). Did you really think I'd let your hunter get away with sending my brother and me to prison?"
I can't help but smile. "Kurapika's a hunter. A damn good one. I don't know what you're scheming, but you don't have a chance against him."
She holds her abdomen as she laughs. Actually, it sounds more like a cackle. "You're so cute, (Y/N). You don't think I can afford my own hunters?"
I swallow hard. "Hunters?"
Her arms fall back down to her sides. "Yep. But don't worry. They won't touch you. I only want Kurapika."
The terrible grocery store music blasts through the speakers. Did someone turn the volume up? It's all I can hear as I try to comprehend what's going on.
She spins on her heels and walks away. She lifts her arm and waves at me. "It was nice seeing you!"
I finish my shopping and push the cart to the register.
"That will be thirty-thousand jenny," the cashier tells me.
I'm pretty sure she had to tell me that more than twice because it's obvious she's annoyed. My mind is just focused on Tilly's threat.
I pull my wallet out of my pocket. I toss her some jenny bills and stare at nothing while I wait for my change.
Why am I even worried? Kurapika is strong. Shit...but what if he had to use Emperor Time? That would mean an even shorter lifespan.
I walk to the parking lot with my groceries. I press the keyfob to unlock my trunk. I put the bags in the trunk and shut it with more force than I intended. I turn around, noticing a black cat on the ground, staring at me. Dammit. Doesn't that mean bad luck or something?
I kneel and start petting it. "Hey, sorry. I don't have any treats on me. Maybe next time."
A disheveled woman approaches us. "Oh, she'll take cash instead," she says, holding her hand out to me.
I've seen this lady before. She's always pestering Kurapika for money. I'm pretty sure she's homeless.
I stand back up and reach into my pocket. I don't know why I'm giving her money. She'll probably use it to buy...drugs.
I sigh as I hand her a few jenny bills. She snatches the money out of my hand.
"Thank you, young man. Good things will come to you."
She picks up her cat. It meows at me. She reaches into her pocket and extends her hand to me.
I open my hand, allowing her to drop something in it.
"Uh...thanks. I could use some good fortune right now."
I stare at the omamori in my hand. En-musubi. I roll my eyes as I place it inside of my pocket. I don't need a good luck charm for my marriage.
I put on a fake smile and thank her.
She smiles back at me. I pet her cat one more time before getting into my car.
As soon as I'm inside, my mind returns to Tilly's threat. I run my hands down my face. Should I warn Kurapika? Or...
I open the glove box and pull my gun out. Should I just take care of Tilly myself?
I toss the gun over to the passenger seat. I lean back in my seat. What am I thinking? I'm not a murderer. Besides, she was probably just saying that in hopes to scare Kurapika.
I let out a deep breath. Kurapika. Fuck! It's our anniversary! He's probably wondering where I'm at.
I pull out of the parking lot and drive home in silence.
When I get home, I grab the bags of groceries and run inside our house. I kick my shoes off and drop everything on the kitchen counter.
"Kurapika?"
He doesn't respond. My heart pounds against my chest. I saw his car in the driveway. He has to be home.
I run up the stairs, skipping every other step. I push open our bedroom door, breathing heavily as I hold onto the doorframe.
"(Y/N)? Are you okay?"
I sigh in relief when I hear my husband's voice. I run to him, wrapping my arms around his shoulders. "I just missed you. Happy Anniversary, baby."
He presses his hand on my chest. "Your heart is beating so fast."
I pull away, lacing my fingers through his thick blonde hair. "You have that effect on me."
He presses his lips against mine. He unbuckles my belt and slides his hand down. "Do you want your present now?"
I feel the sweat drops forming on my forehead as I try to resist the urge to take him.
He wraps his hand around me and I grip his shoulders for support.
"No...y...yes!" I say through clenched teeth.
I hear Kurapika laugh. "Was that a no? Or yes?"
Dammit...I have to put the groceries away before they go bad.
"Y...yes."
He pushes me into a chair. This gifted hunter has a way of getting me to do anything. I feel him tugging at my pants and...ohh...damn...I grip the arms of the chair when I feel the back of his throat. I grab his hair, not ever wanting him to stop.
I forget how to breathe as I...
"Kurapi...kahhh!"
I rub my eyes in an attempt to regain my vision. My gorgeous husband gets off his knees, wiping the corners of his mouth.
"I expect a present like that from you later," he says. A mischievous smile spreads across his face.
I kiss him, tasting myself on his tongue.
After our special dinner, we run up the stairs. We drink plum wine on the bathroom floor while we wait for the bathtub to fill. His tongue tastes sweet from the wine. I feel my head spin. Drunk on Kurapika, not the wine, I pull him until he's straddling me. I unbutton his shirt, gasping like it's the first time seeing his perfectly sculpted chest. I run my tongue over his nipple.
"(Y/N)..."
Kami, I love the way he moans my name. I glide my tongue over to his other nipple. He grinds his hips against mine. If he doesn't stop, I'm going to...
Bubbles fall from the tub. We didn't even notice the bathtub had overfilled. Kurapika gets up to turn the water off. I stand up and grab his belt, loosening it. His erection slaps his abdomen as soon as I free him. I quickly undress myself. He reaches out for my hand, interlacing his fingers with mine. We step inside the tub. Soft moans escape our lips as the steaming water invites us in. I sit down, pulling Kurapika back on my lap.
His lips are laced with poison. If anyone else were to ever taste them, they'd never be able to stop. I'll kill anyone who ever tries. I run my tongue over his lower lip, taking little bites with my front teeth. I invite myself in and instead of going for his tongue, I explore the rest of his mouth. He does the same to me. I smile against his lips as we play this game of exploration. He loses, gliding his tongue over mine.
I reach up and grab his throat. He breaks our kiss, tilting his head to the side, giving me perfect access to his neck. Not caring how many bruises I give him, I take his skin between my lips, leaving a trail of love bites down his neck. He grabs the back of my hair.
"I do believe you owe me a present," he says.
I smile, knowing exactly what he means. He moves to the other side of the tub, gripping the sides. When we had our house built, we made sure to pick out a huge bathtub for this purpose. I move closer to him, grabbing his waist. I lift him up until his dick becomes visible. I watch as bubbles slide down his length. I lick my lips. Perfection. I take the head in my mouth, sucking until I taste his precum. He lifts his hips up, wanting more. I tuck my lips under my teeth. I go down a few more inches, pausing to use my tongue to massage his most sensitive area.
I make spiral shapes with the tip of my tongue. This move drives him crazy. I pull back then down until I feel him touch the back of my throat. His body trembles. I grab his buttocks, supporting him. I continue my movements, stopping when I feel hot liquid pour down my throat.
I move my eyes across his body until they meet his face. His eyes are shut and his jaw is clenched. Knowing he's extra sensitive after having an orgasm, I slowly move up, releasing his dick from my mouth. He shoots another load, getting my eye. Damn. That must have been some climax. I rinse my face.
Kurapika finally relaxes. I pull him back to me. He's practically sleeping so I hold him. Blowjobs work better for him than sleeping pills. And I'm more than happy to give them to him.
He lifts his head, looking at me through half-open eyes. "I...I can't move."
"That's okay, baby. I'll wash you."
When I'm finished drying him off, I carry him into our bedroom. He's out by the time his head hits the pillow.
I walk back into the bathroom to shower. I feel myself getting hard again. Knowing Kurapika is sleeping, I take care of myself.
I didn't put pajamas on Kurapika so I don't bother with any either. I turn off the light and crawl next to him. I give him a kiss before laying back on my side of the bed.
The next night...
After we undress each other, I lay Kurapika on our bed with his back facing me. I massage his tense shoulders, slowly making my way down.
"Did you have a hard day at work?" I say.
"Yes. Thankfully, I knew I was coming home to you."
I get up and grab the bottle of lube from the dresser. I squirt some on my fingers while walking back to him. I spread his cheeks apart and press the tip of my finger inside of him. I wait for him to beg before I proceed.
He pushes back against my hand. "(Y/N)...please."
I smile. "Please what?"
"Please. Make love to me."
I press my finger in further until I feel his prostate. Precum seeps out of me as I watch him squirm.
I pull my finger out and squirt the lube on my dick. I enter him slowly, giving him time to adjust.
He grips the bedsheets. "Please...just take me already."
My smile widens. "I'll do whatever you want, baby."
Heat surrounds me as I disappear inside of him. His muscles contract and I have to be careful. I don't want to finish early.
I grit my teeth, slowly pulling back. He tucks his knees under his chest. I thrust back into him. He's mine. Kurapika. The strong hunter who loves to be in control is now under my spell. I repeatedly hit his sweet spot, earning moans from him.
I look over my shoulder. We're on the second floor inside our bedroom...so why do I get the feeling we're being watched?
I shake the feeling and concentrate on my husband of a year now. He'd probably kill me if I stopped.
I look down at him. Like sunshine over lava, his gorgeous blonde hair is sprawled out on our red bedsheets. The left side of his face is exposed, eyes shut. His earring dangles and it's so damn sexy, I thrust harder into him.
My eyes fall shut. As much as I want to stare at him, my brain can only focus on one thing: Kurapika. His muscles start to contract again, tightening around me. He's close.
He screams out his orgasm, collapsing onto the mattress. I keep plunging in and out of him until...
I can't hear or see. I can only feel as I explode inside of him. My body convulses, and I allow myself to fall on top of him. Pleasure courses through my veins.
"(Y/N)?"
I jolt up. "Sorry...I almost fell asleep. That was fucking amazing."
He lets out a soft laugh. "I must agree."
I lift up on my arms and pull out of him. He spins around until he's facing me. My lips meet his and we share a passionate kiss.
Mmm...nothing beats sex, but kissing Kurapika after we make love is definitely my second favorite thing to do.
My senses slowly come back and I can't help but feel eyes on us again.
I pull away. Kurapika caresses my cheek, sensing my apprehension.
"Is everything okay, my love?"
I stare into his eyes. They slowly change from scarlet to gray. I press my forehead against his.
"Yeah. I just have a question to ask you. Can you feel when someone is watching you?"
"Of course. Don't we all have that ability?"
I crawl off of him. I reach for our pajamas and hand him his pair. "Yeah, you're right. I guess I'm just being paranoid."
He buttons his top. "Don't be. You have me, remember?"
But...it's not me I'm worried about.
I pull up my pants and crawl back into bed. He's right. He's strong enough to fight off a few hunters.
"I love you, Kurapika."
"And I love you. Sleep well, my everything."
Kurapika falls asleep. I stare at him. I can see a slight smile on his face as he sleeps. I kiss the corner of his lips.
A tapping sound on the window interrupts me. I turn around and notice a silhouette of a woman standing outside on the balcony. I climb out of bed and flick the lamp off.
I run downstairs. I slide the back door open and walk outside.
"Hello?" I call out.
The woman becomes visible in the moonlight. Fuck.
"Miss me?" Tilly asks as she closes the gap between us. She points up to my bedroom window.
"Damn...that was some hot sex," she says.
I jump back. "Wait...you climbed up to our window and watched us?"
A sly smile spreads across her face. "Hell yeah, I watched. I was dripping so much, I had to touch myself."
That explains the feeling of being watched earlier. I roll my eyes. "How did you find out my address?"
Her smile fades and her forehead crinkles. "I thought I told you...I hired hunters to find Kurapika."
I feel my heart pound. "Tilly, please. What do you want? Money? I can give you money."
She makes fists with her hands. "I told you...I want that bastard to suffer for sending me to prison!"
I grab her shoulder. "That bastard is my husband. Don't act like you didn't deserve to spend time in prison."
She narrows her eyes at me. "How did you get out of it? If I remember correctly, you purchased drugs from me, which I believe is illegal. Kurapika should have his license suspended for not reporting you."
I take a deep breath, suppressing the urge to smack the shit out of her. "Don't get all bitchy with me. I nearly died because of you."
She shrugs her shoulders. "I only sold the drugs to you. If you overdosed, that's your problem."
How can a human be so cold? I push one of the patio chairs toward her. "Tilly, what's your story?"
She gives me a confused look. "My story?"
I nod. "Yeah. How did you get in the business anyway?"
She looks at me suspiciously. "You seriously want to know?"
I sit in a chair, getting comfortable. "Yeah. Talk to me."
She slumps into the chair next to me.
She sighs. "You're the first person to ask me about my past." She stares at her hands, collecting her thoughts. "I had the perfect family. My dad worked hard so my mom could stay home and raise us. We ate dinner together every evening, went on vacations, and all that family crap."
She glances at me.
"I'm listening," I say.
"I looked up to my big brother. He was my protector. He was also my dad's pride and joy. He could do no wrong. Well...that changed the day he decided to come out. He was seventeen."
She pulls her knees close to her chest, hugging her legs. "I remember watching my dad beat him up. My mom tried to stop them, but she was greeted with a slap in the face from my dad. I was only fifteen. I had no idea what to do. There was so much blood. I was afraid if I didn't do something, my brother would die. So...I grabbed a knife from the table and stabbed my dad in the arm."
My eyes widen.
Tears well up in her eyes, smearing her eyeliner. "Needless to say, my dad kicked my brother out. I refused to stay home so I ran away to be with him. He went to the hospital to get stitched up and the doctor prescribed him Percocet. They not only helped with the pain, but they made him feel happy. When the doctor refused to refill his prescription, he found a dealer who introduced him to heroin."
"Everything was fine for a few months. He got a job at a konbini and we moved in with his boyfriend at the time. Then one night, after his boyfriend left for work, my brother decided to shoot up."
She pauses to take a few deep breaths. "I'll never forget that night. I took a break from studying and walked to the kitchen for a snack. I found my brother passed out on the floor. I immediately called one-one-nine, and started CPR." She finally makes eye contact with me. Mascara streaks down her cheeks. "(Y/N), I thought he was already dead. His eyes were rolled back and his body was limp. They said I saved his life."
I lean closer to her. "So...he overdosed?"
She shakes her head. "The heroin was laced with Fentanyl. That's when I decided to start my own business selling drugs. I didn't want this to happen to anyone else, so the stuff I sell is pure. None of that laced shit."
I place my hand on her knee. "Okay...but that's not going to stop people from dying. I mean, look what happened to me."
"I know that. I'm not an idiot. The way I see it, people who are addicted are going to do it regardless. I just want to make sure they get the best stuff possible."
"Tilly...I can tell you have a heart. Kurapika was only doing his job. Just please take my offer and let us be."
She extends her legs and leans back in the chair. "Why should I do that?"
I clasp my hands together. "I'm begging you...leave Kurapika alone."
She smiles. "You're cute when you beg. Ugh...what the hell. Fine. Just pay me all the money I lost while I was in prison."
I swallow hard. "Uh...I'm afraid to ask what the total is."
She stands to her feet. "I'll do the calculations. Stop by the apartment tomorrow. I'm still at the same place."
Fuck. That's the last place I want to go, but now is not the time to complain. "Fine. Now get out of here."
She skips out of my yard. I slip back inside my house and climb back in bed. I press my lips against Kurapika's ear.
"I love you," I whisper.
The next morning...
I stretch out in bed, opening my eyes. "Kurapika?"
I hop out. I hate when he leaves for work without waking me up first.
He walks inside of the house, supporting his abdomen.
I jump and run over to him. I wrap my arm around his waist, helping him to the couch. Warm liquid gushes down my arm. "Baby, what happened?"
He writhes in pain. "Hold on." His chains appear. "Holy Chain." I watch as his cross-shaped chain wraps around his abdomen, healing him. He sits up as if nothing happened.
"Kurapika?"
"I was attacked by several Nen users on my way to my car."
I curse under my breath. That bitch promised me she'd leave Kurapika alone.
"Are you okay?"
He nods. "Of course. I'm just confused. Does someone hold a grudge against me?"
I pretend I didn't hear his question. "Why don't you take the day off?"
He shakes his head. "Don't be ridiculous. I'm fine."
I press my lips against his. He grabs the back of my head, deepening our kiss.
I rest my forehead against his. "Please...be extra careful out there."
As soon as Kurapika pulls his car out of the driveway, I run back to our bedroom to get ready for the day.
I drive to Tilly's apartment building. I grab my gun out of the glove box and tuck it into my bag before walking up to her apartment.
I pound on her door. A familiar tall blonde answers it and allows me in.
He extends his hand toward me. "Hey there! (Y/N), right?"
I turn my head away from him. "Where's your sister?"
He shrugs his shoulders. "She's probably getting dolled up. Want some coffee?"
I hold my bag close to my body. "No. I'll just wait here."
He laughs.
"What the hell is so funny?" I say, narrowing my eyes at him.
"I just realized...I had your dick in my mouth and you probably don't even know my name."
I cringe. "I really don't care to know your name."
He scratches the back of his head. His smile reaches his eyes. "Well...I'm Toki. It's good to see you again."
He spins around and walks away. I sigh a breath of relief.
I hear Tilly's bedroom door open. She emerges wearing her usual goth-style dress and makeup.
"(Y/N)!" She runs to me, greeting me with a hug.
"Cut the crap, Tilly." I push her away. "Why was Kurapika attacked this morning? I thought we made a deal."
She presses her palm against her forehead. "Oh my...I forgot to call the hunters off. Sorry about that. Was he hurt?"
I grab her neck. "That's not the point. I'm not giving you a dime until I know for sure Kurapika's safe from you."
Her nosy brother comes running to the foyer.
"Hey, let her go!" he shouts.
"Tch." I release her.
Tilly rubs her neck. "Fine. I'll call them off right now."
I follow her into the kitchen. She puts her phone down on the counter and turns on the speaker so I can hear the conversation. Once it's over, she crosses her arms.
"See? I'm not a liar, (Y/N)."
Toki sits on a stool, listening to our conversation. I give him the side-eye.
"What the hell do you want?" I ask him.
Tilly grabs my arm. "Be nice, (Y/N). He means no harm."
"Whatever. Just tell me how much I owe you. I want you out of my life forever."
A few months later...
I wake up to the sound of Kurapika coughing. I rub my eyes and reach for him. The sleepiness I felt seconds ago washes away in an instant.
"Kurapika, what's in your hand?"
He makes a fist, hiding what I already saw. "It's...nothing." He throws the comforter off, getting out of bed. "Go back to sleep."
I follow him into the bathroom. I watch with widened eyes as he grips the sink, coughing up more blood.
"I'll get dressed. I'm taking you to the hospital," I say.
He waves his hand in the air. "That's not necessary. I'll be fine."
I grab a handful of tissues and clean his red-stained lips. "Have you lost your mind? Something is obviously wrong with you."
He shakes his head. "(Y/N), there is nothing to be concerned about. Now if you don't mind, I need to get ready for work."
I jump back. "Did you say...work?"
He walks past me. "Yes. You didn't expect me to call out over a silly cold, did you?"
He opens our closet and picks out a suit. I take it from him.
"This is not a silly cold, Kurapika. Our sink is stained with your blood."
He snatches his suit back. "(Y/N), look at me. Do I look sick to you?"
I take a few steps back and assess him with my eyes. He looks...fine.
That evening...
Kurapika and I eat dinner in silence. I watch him as I slurp my noodles. He takes a sip of water and starts to cough again. The once white napkin Kurapika's holding is now red.
I stand up, pushing my chair back. "Let's go. Now!"
He rolls his eyes while coughing. "Again...with...the...hospital?" He throws me his phone. "Just...call...Leorio."
I catch his phone and stare at it. Why the hell does he want me to call Leorio? I swipe up and unlock his phone using the numbers that make up my birthday. I find Leorio's number and call. He answers before the second ring.
"Hey, Sunshine! How's it going?" Leorio says.
"Uh...no. It's not Sunshine. It's (Y/N)."
"Oh. What do you want, (Y/N)?" I can hear disappointment in his voice.
"I'm calling in regards to Kurapika. He's coughing up blood. A lot."
He breathes deeply into the phone. "Then why aren't you taking him to the hospital?"
"I...I tried. He won't go."
I have to pull the phone away from my ear. He shouts some incomprehensible words. I'm sure most are profanities.
"Listen!" I interrupt. "What do you think I should do?"
"You take his ass to the hospital. Nevermind...you're useless. I'll be right there and take him myself."
He hangs up on me, leaving me flabbergasted.
It doesn't even take Leorio thirty minutes to storm through my front door. He scowls at me, pointing his finger in my face.
"If he dies, it's on you!"
He picks up Kurapika and carries him into his car. I run to keep up with him.
"We don't need you," Leorio says.
Who does this asshole think he is? "What the hell is your problem? Kurapika's my husband. He needs me more than he needs you!"
He opens the passenger door and helps Kurapika in. He shuts the door and adjusts his glasses. "Exactly! He's your husband. Why am I doing your job?"
Before I have the chance to argue back, he's pulling out of my driveway. I run back inside the house and grab my car keys.
I speed all the way to the hospital. I open my door before putting my car in park.
I run to the emergency department, slamming into the desk. The lady behind the desk looks up at me and asks if I need help.
I catch my breath before answering. "Kurapika...Kurta."
She offers me a smile. "Yes. Dr. Paradinight just brought him in." She writes some numbers on a little piece of paper and hands it to me. "Here is his room number."
"Room? He's admitted?"
She nods.
I look at the piece of paper in my hand. I wasn't far behind them. How did he get admitted so quickly?
I thank her and run off to find Kurapika's room.
Leorio rolls his eyes as soon as he sees me. I ignore him. My eyes fall to the empty bed.
"Where's Kurapika?"
"They took him to get a CT scan."
I sit in one of the chairs, raking my hand through my hair. "Th...thank you."
He turns so his back is facing me.
Minutes later, they wheel Kurapika back to the room. Leorio pushes the transporter out of the way and assists Kurapika to bed. He fluffs his pillow and adjusts his oxygen tubing.
I sit down on the bed next to Kurapika.
"Hey!" Leorio shouts. "This is a hospital. Not a hotel room. Give Kurapika some space."
Kurapika hangs his head. "Please...no more arguing."
I kiss Kurapika on the cheek and sit back down in my chair.
Leorio is on his phone. He sighs a breath of relief. "Thank you. I appreciate you putting him ahead of everyone else." He hangs up and looks at Kurapika. "That was the radiologist. I asked if he could read your scan immediately. Looks like you just have pneumonia."
Relief washes over me. I reach over and rest my hand on Kurapika's shoulder. "Thank goodness it's nothing serious."
Leorio crosses his arms. "Hmph. It could have been. You obviously don't know how the human body works. If you would have waited any longer, the infection might have spread to his bloodstream causing sepsis."
"Thanks for the lesson I didn't ask for," I say, sarcasm evident in my voice.
Kurapika starts to get out of bed. "So...I can leave now?"
Leorio shoves him back in bed. "Not so fast...you need some IV antibiotics."
Kurapika throws his head back in frustration. "How long is that going to take?"
I don't care what Leorio says. I sit back down next to Kurapika, combing his loose strands of hair with my fingers. "Take this time to relax. You've been working too hard. I'll stay with you."
Kurapika gives me a soft smile. "You promise?"
"Of course." I massage his head until he falls asleep. I can't help but smile as I watch him sleep.
"I'm going to have them run some more tests," Leorio says.
I turn my head to face him, furrowing my brow. "But...you said he just has pneumonia."
He's dialing a number on his phone. "Yeah, but since you're useless and won't bring him back if he develops any other symptoms, I want to be sure he doesn't have anything serious going on."
I make a fist with my hand. He's lucky I don't want to disturb Kurapika. Otherwise, I'd kick his ass right here.
A few days later...
Kurapika's eyes brighten as the nurse goes over his discharge paperwork. We have to stop by the pharmacy to pick up his prescriptions. Leorio wasn't kidding. He had all kinds of tests ordered for Kurapika. So many, he barely got any rest. It's hard to be angry at him since he did this all for my husband. But still...he didn't have to be such a dick.
I hold Kurapika's hand as we walk out of the hospital.
My phone vibrates in my pocket. I pull it out and my eyes widen immediately.
"Is something wrong?" Kurapika asks, sensing my apprehension.
I wipe the beads of sweat away from my forehead and smile. "No...just some scam."
Kurapika
(Y/N) and Leorio were so kind to me while I was sick. I want to buy them something special to show them my gratitude.
I place the gifts on the counter next to the register. There must be something wrong with my card. I know I'm not the greatest at checking our bank account, but I don't have to. I'm a hunter and I make a generous salary. However, my card keeps getting denied.
Luckily, the store manager agreed to hold my items until I figure out what's wrong with my card.
I call the bank as soon as I get into my car.
"Mr. Kurta, there has been suspicious activity on your account. We had to suspend your card."
Suspicious activity? Hmm...you did mention getting a scam email the other day. I'm sure it's nothing serious.
Later that evening...
I bring up the bank situation while we eat dinner.
You tense up. "What...did...they...say?"
"They are investigating some suspicious withdrawals. Do you know anything about that? I did leave you in charge of our finances due to my work schedule."
You stare at your bowl of rice.
"(Y/N)?"
You look up at me. "I'm sorry, I had no idea. I guess I just forgot to check our account." You wave your hands in the air. "I'll take care of it, don't worry."
I smile. "Thank you."
(Y/N)
Shit. Shit...shit! I almost fucked up. I kinda had no choice but to withdraw all that money when Tilly texted me the day we left the hospital.
I pound on her door. She lets me in. I can tell she's high.
"Listen. I've paid my debt. You can leave me alone now."
She laughs. "Did you not read my text? Those hunters are threatening to kill me if I don't pay them."
I throw my arms up in frustration. "That's not my problem. I'm not paying them for you. Especially since you hired them to kill my husband."
She gives me an annoyed look. I notice her pupils are dilated. "Fine. I don't need your money. What I want from you is..." She grabs my arm, forcing me to follow her into her bedroom.
She closes the door behind us.
"What the hell do you want, Tilly?"
She reaches behind her back and unzips her dress. It falls to the floor. She proceeds to take off her underwear, leaving her garter belt on. She hops on her bed, spreading her legs apart.
I jump back, covering my eyes. "No! Put your clothes back on!"
She whines. "Why does the hottest guy on the planet have to be gay? Kurapika is so lucky."
Heat rises to my cheeks. "Uh...I appreciate the compliment, but...are you decent yet?"
She's silent. I peek through my fingers. I think I'm gonna be sick. I back away, bumping into the dresser. I feel for the doorknob, relieved when I find it. I slide out of her room, giving her privacy while she masterbates.
I actually have a smile on my face as I walk down the hallway. This is my last time in this disgusting apartment.
My smile quickly fades when I see Toki sitting at the kitchen table.
He smiles when he notices me. "Hey, (Y/N)! Leaving so soon?"
I grab my bag. "Uh...yeah."
He looks down at the variety of food on the table. "Why don't you join me? I made a little too much food." He throws his hands behind his head and laughs.
I point to the door. "No. I'm leaving. For good."
A look of sadness crosses his face. "Oh. Well...it was nice knowing you." He stands up and walks toward me.
I back away.
He rests his hand on my shoulder. "Do you have a sec?"
I push his arm away. "Not for you."
He hangs his head. "Okay." He walks back to the kitchen. "By the way, congratulations. I'm happy for you. You got to marry the love of your life."
I sigh, following him. Why do I have to be so damn sensitive sometimes? "What do you want?"
His face brightens. "Thanks, (Y/N)!" He fills a plate with food and passes it to me. "Eat up!"
I take a seat in front of him. "No, thank you. I'm actually meeting my husband for lunch," I lie.
He sits down. "I mean no disrespect, but your husband is hot!"
I nod proudly. "He is. And he's all mine."
He raises his hand. "Listen...I just want to apologize for what happened. That was wrong of me."
I shake my head. "I don't even remember."
He shrugs his shoulders. "I know. I just don't want you to think I'm the kind of guy who enjoys breaking up relationships. You don't have to worry about me."'
"I'm not worried. But...thank you." I stand up. "I really should get going."
He smiles. "Hey, (Y/N)? I don't know why I feel like telling you this...maybe because Tilly doesn't care and she's all I got...but...I've been clean since Kurapika sent us to prison. I guess I should thank you."
What do I say in a situation like this? "Uh...congratulations." I point to Tilly's room. "Are you sure hanging out with Tilly is good for you?"
His eyes move from mine to his sister's bedroom. "I have nowhere else to go."
I lower my brow. "Boyfriend?"
He lets out a forced laugh. "Boyfriend? He fucked my sister so I got rid of his ass."
Damn. These two really are dysfunctional.
"Sorry to hear that, but I gotta go," I say, stepping back toward the front door.
"Good luck with married life."
Right. Married life. I have to work on that.
I kick off my shoes and walk to the kitchen. I grab a can of juice, taking a seat on a stool in front of the kitchen island. I press my palms against my forehead. What a long day.
I jump when I hear the front door open. I hop out of the stool, happy to see Kurapika.
I run and plant a kiss directly on his lips. He drops his bag and wraps his arms around my shoulders, parting his lips. I open my mouth, inviting him in. I run my fingers through his thick hair, deeping our kiss. The smell of metal fills my nose. He must have had a rough day at work.
His kiss is hot. I mean...his kisses are always hot, but something doesn't feel right. I pull away and place my hand on his forehead.
"Kurapika, you're burning up! How long were you in Emperor Time today?"
He steps away, avoiding eye contact with me. "Just one hour. Maybe two."
I feel the temperature of my blood rise. "Two hours? That's seventy-two hundred seconds!"
"Thank you for the math lesson," he says.
I grab his arm, forcing him to look at me. "Kurapika, we talked about this. You're sick. Why are you still working yourself to death?"
He pulls his arm away from me. "I know this!" He raises his voice. "But what do you expect me to do?"
"Fuck it...find another job!" I shout.
He walks past me. "Will you stop using profanity? You know I don't like to hear you talk like that."
I know my words are falling on deaf ears. Kurapika is a fast car minus the brakes. He'll keep going until he reaches his goal.
No matter how many times I tell him, he doesn't understand the pain I feel when he overworks himself.
He walks to the kitchen and grabs the bottle of pills for his fever. He takes a couple and proceeds to get ready for bed. I notice his bottle of antibiotics sitting on the shelf.
"Kurapika, shouldn't you take your antibiotic?"
His eyes move from the bottle to me. "Oh, I already took one today."
I grab the bottle. "You're supposed to take them twice a day." I push and twist off the cap. "Why does it look like you haven't been taking them?"
He waves me off. "They gave me plenty at the hospital. I don't need to take it anymore."
This man has a high IQ, yet he's such an idiot. I pull my hair with both hands. "Umm...no, honey. That's why the doctor prescribed them for you." I say as calmly as I can.
He winces. "Look...I'm not feeling well at the moment. However, I'll take one so you can back off."
Back off? "Uh...am I bothering you?"
He throws back the pills with a glass of water. He slams down the glass and looks at me. "In fact, yes. You've been pestering me about my career and my lack of self care."
I reach out for his hand. "That's because I care. But if you want me to back off, then I will."
He looks away from me. "Thank you. Now if you don't mind, I'd like to rest. I have a big day at work tomorrow." He pulls away from me and walks to our bedroom.
I stare at his back with my mouth open. He's still thinking about work? He's a damn bodyguard. I'm sure Melody wouldn't mind picking up his slack in order for him to fully recover.
Even though it's still early as hell, I decide to go to bed with him. The fever knocks him out. I feel the heat radiating from him and my heart aches. I can't do this anymore. Watching him slowly kill himself is pure torture. What do I have to do to make him realize how much I love him? I almost died for Kami's sake. Did he already forget about that?
I crawl out of bed. My stomach growls, reminding me I skipped dinner.
I go through my bag while I wait for my ramen to cook.
"What the hell?" I say out loud while I pull out the familiar paraphernalia from my bag. I freeze as I stare at the items that almost ruined my entire life. The sound of boiling noodles reminds me that I need to turn off the stove.
I turn the burner off and return to my spot in front of the drug that I used to love so much. The drug that erased my problems...even if it was only for a short time.
I put it all back into my bag. This shit came with its own problems as well. I'm not going back down that path again.
I stand up to finish making my dinner.
I stare at my bag while I eat.
I stare at the bag while I clean up my mess.
I take the bag back with me to the bathroom.
I carry the bag over my shoulder while I check on Kurapika.
I take the bag with me while I go to the back porch.
I take everything out while remembering the steps in my head.
"No...I can't start this up again," I say as I press the needle close to my antecubital vein.
Instead of withdrawing, I inject.
Fuck...this is too good. In an instant, my marriage problems are gone.
I slump into the lounge chair, allowing euphoria to take over.
I wake up to the sound of birds chirping. Damn they're loud.
Shit...morning already!
I hide everything and slide back inside the house. I scratch my arms while I walk down the hall to check on Kurapika. I sigh a breath of relief when I notice he's still sleeping. I touch his forehead. Feels like his fever broke. I can't count the number of times we've been through this process. I remember the lecture Leorio gave me when he found out Kurapika and I were serious.
"Now that you two are officially a couple, there's something you should know. Every once in a while, Kurapika will come home looking like death. Hell...don't be surprised if he passes out in front of you. Just make sure he takes his antipyretic. Have plenty of ice packs ready. And good luck. He's very stubborn! Taking care of him while he's sick is a bitch." Leorio said to me.
I remember laughing. Kurapika and I take care of each other so well. I don't need instructions from his best friend.
I run to the bathroom and grip the toilet seat. Right. I'm withdrawing again. I can think of a million things that I'd rather do than throw up ramen.
After washing up, I crawl back in bed next to Kurapika. I give him a kiss on his forehead before drifting back to sleep.
Kurapika and I spend the next few days arguing over the small things.
He places his phone on the empty couch cushion next to him after receiving the call. I rest my hand on his thigh and he immediately pushes it away.
"It's going to be okay, Kurapika."
"Not now, (Y/N)."
"What was that call about? Talk to me. Please."
His chest rises then falls. "This happens all the time. I get close to retrieving another pair of scarlet eyes and..." He shakes his head. "Nevermind."
I grip his shoulders. "Another false lead?"
He nods. I reach over and press my lips against his, but...
Nothing. He doesn't return my kiss.
I've been with Kurapika long enough to know when to leave him alone. Sighing heavily, I push myself off the couch. He stares straight ahead at nothing. He doesn't notice when I grab my keys. I pull on my jacket. I put my hand inside my pocket. I pull out the omamori that the homeless woman gave me months ago. I guess this piece of shit doesn't work.
"I'm going for a drive," I say, throwing the omamori in the trash.
He doesn't respond. I roll my eyes and walk out the door.
I don't even know where I'm going. I just drive, thinking about Kurapika. I punch the steering wheel when I stop at a red light. I love him so damn much, I actually feel pain in my heart. I fucking hate when he's mad.
I spend a few hours looking out to the river. I need to make Kurapika talk to me. I'm not taking no for an answer. That's not how this works.
Darkness invites me when I open the door to our house.
I hang my keys up as I slide out of my shoes. "Kurapika?" I lean forward, walking up the stairs to our bedroom. Light peeks through the bottom of our door. I can hear his voice.
Exhaustion hits me. I just want to go to bed. I push open the door. As if I just drank an energy drink, my body jolts.
"Leorio? What the hell are you doing in my bedroom?"
Leorio stands up from my bed. "I...I was just comforting Kurapika."
I yank Leorio by the arm. "Yeah? That's my job you tall freak."
Kurapika stands and pulls me back. "(Y/N), Leorio's telling the truth. Since he's a doctor, he was going over my test results with me. Good news...everything came back normal."
I make a fist with my hand. "Yeah? Maybe your husband would like to be a part of that conversation. And why does he have to be in our bedroom?"
I don't wait for an answer. I turn around, slamming the door behind me.
Everything looks blurry to me. I don't even know how I made it back to my car. Honestly, I shouldn't even be driving. But like the idiot I am, I drive to Tilly's apartment.
Tilly greets me with a huge smile on her face.
"I didn't think I'd see you back so soon!"
I push her aside like I own the apartment. "Don't get too excited. I just need a place to chill for a few hours." I slump down on her couch and kick the empty bottle of sake that's sitting on the floor. I watch it roll until it hits the wall.
She sits on the cushion next to me. "Trouble at home?" She gets in my personal space. I place my hand over her face and gently push her back. "I don't want to talk about it."
"I know what will make you feel better," she says.
I narrow my eyes. "No, thank you. And since we're on the subject, why did you leave that shit in my bag the other day?"
She smiles. "Did you like it? I'm sampling some new stuff and wanted your opinion."
I place my elbows on my thighs, supporting my face in my hands. "I don't do that anymore."
She laughs. "So you're telling me you didn't try it?"
I don't answer.
She laughs harder. "So you did try it. How was it?"
"Fuckin awesome."
She claps her hands. "Glad to hear it! I should be getting a shipment soon. Wanna pre order?"
I shake my head. "No. I just want my husband back."
Random people walk into her apartment. She grabs my hand. "Let's go to my room. It's more private there."
I check my phone. No messages from Kurapika. Why doesn't that surprise me?
Tilly jumps on the bed next to me. I see her slip something inside her mouth. I throw my arms up when I feel her lips press up against mine. She pushes my tongue with hers. Out of instinct, I swallowed whatever was inside her mouth.
"What the hell, Tilly?"
"Looks like you needed that," she says, falling back on her bed.
I sigh, falling back next to her.
"I caught Kurapika with our best friend."
She gasps. "No way! Were they fucking? Why didn't you just join in?"
I roll my eyes. "No, Tilly. They were just talking."
"Then what's the big deal?"
"They were in our bedroom. Kurapika shouldn't be inviting anyone else there."
She nods. "True."
We lay in silence. A sudden rush hits me.
I place my hand against my forehead. "Whoa...what was that?"
"Feels good, huh?"
I cross my arms behind my head and look at the ceiling.
She runs her hand up and down my torso. "Hey, you're only considered high if you get caught. I won't tell."
"No, I'd call that lying." Strange. I actually feel like talking. Must be whatever the hell she forced down my throat. "But I like your logic better." I turn my head so I'm facing her. "Hey, Tilly? Got a boyfriend yet? Or a girlfriend?"
She shakes her head. "No. I'm not the type to commit to one person."
I smile. "No surprise there."
She punches my shoulder. "Hey! Don't judge. You haven't heard me out yet."
"Can't wait to hear it," I say, sarcastically.
She props her head on her elbow. "The way I see it, your partner should always allow you to experience pleasure. Even if it's with another person."
I grab her hair and shake her head. "You might want to consider cutting out some of the drugs. I think they really fucked with your head."
She laughs. "Maybe. But think about it...say Kurapika was a thousand miles away and you weren't there to satisfy his needs...but someone else was? Would you deny him the opportunity?"
"Deny him the opportunity to cheat on me? Uh...yes. Besides, him being far away only makes the sex better when he returns to me."
She sits up and massages my scalp. "You're just like my brother. A total softie."
I close my eyes. "Whatever you're doing, it feels good."
She makes circles on my temples with her thumbs. "Yeah? Are you cheating on Kurapika?"
"What? No! You're just giving me a massage."
She adds pressure. "So you're telling me you'd be okay if you caught his friend giving him a massage?"
I jolt up. "I...I see your point. But this is different. We're not having sex."
"Right. And they were just talking." She makes air quotes.
I check my phone again. She stares at it.
"Can I see pictures from the wedding?"
I scroll until I find our wedding pictures. "It wasn't a big wedding. Just us and some close friends." I hand her my phone.
A smile plays on her lips as she scrolls through the pictures. "You two look so happy."
I smile. "We are." I take my phone back.
She pulls her legs close to her body, crossing them. "Can I ask you a personal question?"
I lay back down and close my eyes. "Go ahead."
"Have you ever had sex with a girl?"
"Nope."
"Then how do you know it doesn't feel good? I've been with both men and women and both gave me incredible orgasms."
I open my eyes and narrow them at her. "Because. The thought of it repulses me. Let me ask you this...who gave you the best head?"
"A girl." She answers almost immediately.
I smile. "Exactly. She knows what you like. I wouldn't expect you to know how to suck me off."
She places her hands on her hips. "Hey, if you gave me the chance, I bet you'd be begging me for more!"
I roll my eyes. "I highly doubt it." I look back at the ceiling. "I don't mean to offend you. It's just not natural. I never once had to instruct Kurapika on how to pleasure me. He just knows."
Damn. Now I'm getting hard thinking about him. I sit up in bed. I open my mouth to say goodbye, but Tilly stops me. She straddles me and pulls off her top. She reaches back and unclasps her bra. Her breasts bounce free in my face. I think I might throw up.
"Touch them," she says.
I turn away. She grabs my hand and places it over one of her breasts. My once hard penis is now soft.
"Go ahead...squeeze it."
I obey. Laughter ripples through my abdomen as I bounce it in my hand. "Hey...they're kinda fun. No wonder babies like them."
She scowls, pushing my hand away. "Babies? You know...women pay millions of jenny for breasts like these."
I hold my stomach as I continue to laugh. "They should save their money."
She slaps me on the cheek and slides off of me. "Shut the hell up."
My laughter subsides. "Listen..you're a pretty girl, but you'll never make a straight man out of me." I show her my wedding band. "Besides, I'm married. I know that doesn't mean anything to you, but I love my husband."
She crosses her arms over her chest. "Hmph."
I hop off the bed. "I better get going. Thanks for the...uh..pany."
I reach for my phone and call Kurapika. It goes straight to voicemail.
"Hey, baby. I hate when we fight. Please...call me."
I end the call and put my phone back in my pocket. Tilly crawls on her knees toward me. She tickles me until I fall on top of her.
The door swings open.
"What's going on here?"
Tilly stops tickling me and looks over my shoulder.
"Hey, Toki. Just having some fun with my friend."
I ignore her brother and take the opportunity to tickle her. I can't let her win this battle.
The sound of her laughter echoes off the walls. If she wasn't such a bitch, we might actually be good friends.
"No, seriously," Toki interrupts. "We're in trouble."
Her laughter is replaced by my own heartbeat. I don't look back, but I don't have to. I know what Kurapika's glare feels like.
I feel my throat roll. This looks bad...really bad. I'm laying on top of an almost naked girl. Not to mention the fact that she can't control her laughter, even though I stopped tickling her.
Kurapika's touch sends a shiver down my spine. He pulls my arms back and gently moves me until I'm facing the wall. I notice the texture of Tilly's white wall. She doesn't have any pictures on them. Hmm...don't girls like to decorate? Maybe she just doesn't want to be reminded of her past.
What the hell am I thinking about? My husband has a nice grip on my wrists. I should turn around and beg for an apology. Even though technically, he started this.
"(Y/N), you have the right to remain silent," Kurapika says.
Uh...okay.
Cold metal wraps around my wrists as he handcuffs me.
Wait...am I being arrested?
I turn around until I'm facing Kurapika.
"Babe? What are you doing?"
He doesn't make eye contact with me. Instead, he turns away.
"Ma'am...do you mind adjusting your top?" Kurapika asks Tilly.
She obeys, scowling at him. "Why? Are you gonna arrest me?" A sly smile spreads across her face. "Or...are you fulfilling one of (Y/N)'s fantasies?"
Sure. I'm not going to lie. I've had fantasies about Kurapika chaining me up. But...this must either be a dream or some sick joke. I can't be getting arrested. Not by my own husband.
He pushes Tilly up against the wall next to me and handcuffs her.
"If you send me back to prison, you're a dead man," she says.
Toki gets on his knees. "Please...you can't take my sister away. She's all I got left." He begs with his hands clasped.
Kurapika looks down at him. "You're coming with us."
Toki looks up at Kurapika with misty eyes. "Huh? But...I'm clean."
Kurapika shrugs his shoulders. "Regardless, you knew she was still dealing. You're just as guilty."
Toki doesn't resist. He actually helps Kurapika by placing his arms behind his back.
I pinch my skin until I draw blood. No. I'm not dreaming.
Kurapika stands back up and walks toward me. Behind those black contacts are scarlet-colored eyes. He tries to remain professional, but chokes as he reads me my rights.
"Kurapika, you don't have to do this," I choke back.
Kurapika
I pull into the first parking spot I see. It takes me at least ten minutes to get out of my car. I take a deep breath and kill the engine.
The guard walks me to your cell. I notice you right away, sitting alone on the bottom bunk with your forearms resting on your thighs. Your sunken face and bags under your eyes make it obvious to me that you haven't been eating or sleeping.
"(Y/N) Kurta! You have a visitor," the guard says.
You lift your head up and stare at me for a few seconds before standing up. You look back at the floor and I almost think you're not going to visit with me at all.
You're the first one to sit when we approach a patio table outside the facility. Tall barbed wire fences surround us. I sit in front of you, folding my hands on the table. You don't make eye contact with me. I can't blame you.
I reach into my bag and pull out a folder. You finally look at me as I pass it to you.
(Y/N)
Kurapika pushes a folder in my direction. I glance at it before looking back at him.
"What the hell is this?"
He lets out a deep breath. Why can't he just answer my damn question?
"Open it," he says.
My eyes widen as I read the words on the top of the page.
Dissolution of Marriage.
I shove the papers back in the envelope. I stand up and turn my back toward him. Making a fist with my hand, I try my best not to punch the first person I see. Instead, I grit my teeth and hang my head.
"(Y/N), sit back down. We need to talk."
I wipe away the hot tears from my eyes before sitting back down.
"How can you be so cold-hearted? You haven't visited me in three months." I peel a thin layer of wood off the table.
He flashes me a look. I know that look. My heart sinks to my stomach and I feel like throwing up.
I pull the papers out of the envelope, scattering them across the table. There it is. I never knew a simple sheet of paper had the ability to reach into your body and pull your soul out.
I pick the paper up and rip it in half.
Kurapika places his hands on the table. "I'm tired of supporting a drug addict."
He might as well have stabbed me directly in the heart. The pain wouldn't be as severe.
I feel my jaw clench. Sweat drops the size of golf balls drip off my face. "Didn't you vow to stay by my side in sickness and in health? Besides, you never gave me the chance to explain myself to you."
He straightens out the collar to his suit jacket. His gorgeous face...expressionless.
"I didn't need to. The evidence was thrown in my face." He shakes his head. "Your friend makes a hunter's job easier than serving coffee." He stares back at me, eyes cold. "Hiring hunters to go after me? I'm actually surprised she didn't do that sooner."
I swallow in an attempt to keep my heart down. "I...I wanted to tell you."
He shoots me with his judgmental look. "But the drugs and sex were too good to resist?"
I furrow my brow. "Huh? I never cheated on you, Kurapika. While we're on the subject, what about you and Leorio?"
He hides his eyes under his bangs. "There's...nothing to say." He scoots out of the bench. "We're done here. Please sign those papers as soon as possible."
I look at the scattered mess of papers on the table. "I'm not signing shit."
He takes a deep breath. "Very well then. You're only making this harder for yourself."
The hot tears are threatening to fall. "I'm gonna fight."
He lets out a laugh. "Yeah? You'll need one hell of a lawyer. And in case you forgot, I'm the breadwinner."
His insults would hurt anyone else, but not me. I know him too well. "I'll rob a bank if I have to."
"Go ahead. I'm sure that would look great on your record."
I stand up and grab his left hand. I twirl his wedding band, thankful he's still wearing it. "Kurapika, please. We should really talk about...us. I still love you."
He pulls his hand away from me and puts it in his pocket. Without saying a word, he walks away. My heart aches with each step he takes. I watch his back, his blonde hair falling below his collar.
The guard comes to escort me back to my cell. I can't take my eyes off of Kurapika. It takes every ounce of strength I have to keep myself from running to him and beg for forgiveness.
Kurapika
I have an entire queen sized bed all to myself, yet I still choose to sleep on my usual side. I fold my arm under my head and stare at the empty space that was once occupied by you. I grab your pillow. No, I have yet to wash your pillowcase. I cover my face with it. I take one deep breath and hold it in. It hurts too much to breathe.
You once called yourself a loser. The truth is, the loser is me. I don't know what our future holds, but I promise to tell you everything. Honestly, you'd probably sign those divorce papers a little quicker.
Do I honestly want a divorce? Of course not. I just need to stop pretending that I deserve you. How do I expect to earn your forgiveness if I can't forgive myself?
My lungs burn. Desperately needing air, I take your pillow off of my face. I notice a strand of your hair on the corner of the pillow. I take it between my fingers. How can one little strand of hair bring back so many memories?
I think back to our first kiss. We ran back to my apartment that night, barely able to keep our hands off each other. I smile, remembering the looks we received on the elevator.
My face almost meets the floor as I slip out of my shoes. You catch me, laughing.
"I didn't know you were clumsy," you say.
I straighten my posture. "I'm not. Just a little...nervous."
"Come here, handsome." You pin me against the wall, continuing our kiss.
Now that I've had a taste of you, I don't think I'll ever be able to keep my lips off yours. You lift me up and carry me into my bedroom. I place my hand over my abdomen to stop the tickling sensation I feel inside. Butterflies?
We throw me on the bed, climbing in to be next to me. We take turns undressing each other. You look me up and down with widened eyes.
"Is everything okay?" I say.
You nod, dropping your jaw. "Yeah. I had no idea you looked like this under that suit. You're fucking hot!"
I feel myself blush. "I was actually thinking the same thing about you."
It's your turn to blush.
I place my head on your shoulder, kissing your ear. "Now what? I've never done anything like this before."
You run your fingers down my back, causing goosebumps to erupt on my skin. "Same here. Let's just do whatever feels good, okay?"
I move closer to you. A rush of air enters my lungs. We stare into each other's eyes. Your erection brushes against mine. You said we should do whatever feels good. I wrap my legs around your waist. This doesn't feel good. No. A simple one-syllable word doesn't define how this feels. Just one touch makes me feel like I'm on top of the world's tallest roller coaster.
You take my right hand and kiss my fingers. "You taste like chains. I like it."
You put my hand back down, wrapping it around your penis. I immediately move my hand up and down, applying a good amount of pressure. You return the favor. We press our sweaty foreheads against each other's, looking down. Clear liquid trickles out of us and we both use it as lubricant.
"Hey, Kurapika?" you whisper.
"Uh...yeah?"
"I'm close...but, I don't want to finish yet."
I feel your scrotum contract. If I don't let go now, you'll meet your sweet ending. As painful as it is to let go, you're right. We should explore more of each other.
We both pull away, breathing heavily. You don't give me much time to recover. You kiss me hard. I can feel your desperation. Trust me, I feel the same way.
You gently push me until I'm on my back. Your tongue slips out of my mouth and glides down my neck until it meets my Adam's apple. You reach down and run your thumb across the head of my penis. More fluid trickles out. You use it to moisten your fingertips.
I jolt up when I feel your finger enter me.
You raise your eyebrows, pulling your finger out. "Too much? I'm sorry," you say.
I shake my head. "No...it's just...should I take a shower first?"
You let out a laugh. "You're so adorable, I can't stand it. Of course not. I want to taste natural Kurapika."
"Uh...taste?"
"Lay back down."
I obey and take a deep breath. Instead of using your finger, you press your tongue against me. I throw my head back and lift my hips up.
Elated bliss.
"No..." I beg when you pull away.
A satisfied smile spreads across your face. "Did you enjoy that?"
I lift myself up, using my arms for support. "Yes. How did you know that would feel good?"
You ruffle my hair. "Apparently, I've watched more hentai than you."
"What else do you know?"
Your eyes search my room. "Do you happen to have any lubricant? If not, we'll have to improvise."
"I actually do." I motion toward my bedside table. "Top drawer."
You crawl over me and pull open the drawer. You smile, brightening the room. "Kurapika, were you expecting this to happen?"
I feel myself blush. "Y...yes."
You grab the tube of lubricant and a condom. "Want me to wear this?" You shake the small square.
"No, I bought those when I barely knew you."
You laugh against my mouth. "You knew I'd be your first, didn't you?"
I pull you until you're back on top of me. "Yes. Now...take me."
I open my legs for you. You sit back up and squirt the jelly on your erection.
"Allow me," I say, taking you in my hand.
Soft moans escape your lips. I remove my hand, bracing myself.
Our eyes lock. "Ready?" you say.
I nod. You gently press into me. I wince at the burning pain.
You pull back. "Should I stop?"
I pant, sweat drops forming on my forehead. "No...no. Just give me a minute."
You comb your fingers through my hair. Your kiss mesmerizes me and before I realize it...you're all the way inside of me, rocking back and forth. I hook my arms under your shoulders.
"Ohh...(Y/N)."
You kiss my ear, pressing my earring against my skin. "Baby, I'm going to go deeper. There's a spot deep inside that's supposed to feel amazing when I hit it. Let me know when I find it."
I don't have to use words to tell you. My body writhes in pleasure, letting you know I can feel it. A fire ignites deep within me, and you just poured gasoline on it. It spreads throughout my entire body. I never knew pleasure like this existed. I've had orgasms before. Sure, they were self-induced. Nonetheless, I didn't know my body was capable of producing this massive amount of ecstasy.
Flashes of light surround me as my body convulses. I have to remind myself to breathe. This incredible feeling doesn't want to subside, and I'm not complaining.
Just when I think the fire has been extinguished, I feel a different type of warmth. Your thrusts become uneven. You plunge deeper...then stop. You explode inside of me. I'm still coming.
My hand travels down to the bulge inside of my pajama pants. I grab it while pulling down my pants and underwear. I move my hand up and down, gently stroking myself.
I close my eyes. "Ohh...(Y/N).
A slight tap on my door interrupts me. I frantically pull my pants back up.
"Uh...uh..e in," I say.
"Kurapika? Are you awake?"
I jolt up. "Leorio? What are you doing here?" I adjust myself underneath the bed sheets. My cheeks are burning. Luckily, the room is dark.
He enters my room and sits down on my bed. "Yes. Just checking on my patient."
I look at the alarm clock, checking the time. "At eleven?"
"I was thinking about you and knew you wouldn't answer if I called."
"Thank you. I'm fine...physically. Mentally, not very well. I gave the papers to (Y/N) today."
I feel his hand on my shoulder. "I'm sorry."
I take a deep breath in an attempt to hold back tears. "I know it's for the best, but it hurts so damn much."
He squeezes my shoulder. "Just remember...time will heal your broken heart."
I push his arm away. "Yeah. So I hear."
Silence fills the room.
"Leorio, I appreciate the visit, but I'd like to be alone."
He laughs as he stands up. "Sorry. I'll leave so you can finish wanking off."
"Uh...uh...I wasn't..."
He tousles my hair. "It's okay...we all do it."
I hear the door close. My face is on fire. Instead of trying to sleep, I get up to make myself a cup of tea. To my surprise, Leorio is standing at the bottom of the stairs.
"Leorio? What are you still doing here?"
He lifts his head. I can tell his eyes are wet.
"Kurapika, I have something to tell you."
(Y/N)
My cellmate was a fucking asshole so I'm glad they kicked him out. Finally, a moment of solitude. My moment is quickly interrupted by the sound of keys clanking.
"That didn't last long," I say to myself.
The officer uncuffs a tall man with blonde hair.
Toki?
I hop off my cot and walk toward him. The officer locks him in with me.
"What are you doing here?" I say.
He smiles. He can barely keep his left eye open due to the edema. A disgusting shade of purple surrounds his glacier blue eye.
"What the hell happened to you?"
He shrugs his shoulders. "The usual. The other inmates love teasing me. I'm just glad the guard finally changed my cell."
I lower my eyebrows. "Did you even defend yourself?"
"No. But don't worry about me...I'm used to it. My own father almost beat me to death."
I hang my head. "I know. I'm sorry."
He waves his hand in the air. "Anyway, how is prison life treating you?"
I fall back on the cot. "It's actually not as bad as I imagined it would be."
He sits next to me. "Hey, I'm sure Kurapika will get you out of here soon. Hunters get away with murder. I'm sure he'll use his license to free you."
I can't help but laugh. "Toki, my soon-to-be ex-husband is the one who arrested me. He fucking handcuffed me and threw me in the police car. You want to hear something really fucked up? He hasn't shown his face until yesterday. With divorce papers!"
Toki's mouth falls open. "He wants a divorce?"
I grip the paper-thin sheet beneath me. "Yes. The worst part is, he was the one who cheated on me."
He raises his eyebrows. "He did?"
"I don't know for sure. But why else would he want a divorce?" Anger courses through my veins as I think about the night I caught Leorio in my bedroom. I'll sign those papers. However, I'm going to make sure I get everything. "Hey, Toki, have you heard from your sister?"
"No. Why?"
"Is she planning on using that same lawyer who got you two out of here early the last time?"
He looks to the ceiling for an answer. "As far as I know."
I chew the inside of my cheek. "Listen...Kurapika is right. I can't afford a good lawyer. Think she'll hire hers for me?"
"I'm not sure our lawyer practices family law, but I'm sure she can find one who does. But...how are you going to pay Tilly back?"
I place my hand over his cheek, running my thumb over his swollen eye. "What if I pay her brother instead?"
"What do you..."
Before he has the chance to finish his question, I press my lips over his. He pulls back.
"No, (Y/N)! You're only doing this because you're mad at Kurapika."
"So?"
He rests his hand on my shoulder. "Besides, I don't do favors in exchange for sex. I do them out of the kindness of my heart. I'll help you."
I widen my eyes. "You will?"
"Of course."
Irreconcilable differences
I stare at the words for ten minutes before pressing my pen above the signature line. Ink spreads across the paper as I sign my name. The guard lets me know Kurapika is back to visit me.
"Tell him the next time we'll see each other is in court." I walk toward the guard and slide the sheet of paper between the bars. "And give this to him."
Christmas Eve
I cover my smile with my hand. I look across the table. Kurapika presses his palm against his forehead, shaking his head. Not only did I win the house, I was awarded a generous amount of alimony.
Tilly and Toki are amazing. Thanks to their lawyer, my charges were dropped. Once we were freed, they helped me find an attorney who specialized in family law. She immediately took my case.
This all happened within three weeks. Money really does make things move faster.
Kurapika finally stands up. He extends his arm to me. "Congratulations, (Y/N). I'll send a moving truck to the house. Gon and Killua will gather my things so you don't have to worry about seeing me there."
I shake his hand. His touch still delivers a shock that travels down my spine. I look away from my now ex-husband. "Uh...yeah...no problem."
He bows, taking his leave.
He's taking his loss a lot better than I imagined he would. Or maybe he's just keeping his feelings inside. Kurapika is good at that.
I stand to leave the office. Tilly and Toki wave at me as soon as I walk through the door.
"Did you win?" Tilly asks me.
I smile. "Hell yeah, I won." I look over my shoulder at Kurapika. "Hey, let's take the stairs. I don't want to ride the elevator with him."
We walk toward the stairwell.
"So what now?" Toki says.
I shrug my shoulders. "I dunno. Probably go home and cry until I'm dead."
Tilly punches my shoulder. "Shut up. We need to celebrate. That stupid hunter never deserved you."
The sound of her heels echoes throughout the stairwell. The tip of her heel snaps. I reach out to grab her, but I'm not fast enough. All we can do is watch as she falls back and plummets down the flight of stairs.
Toki runs down to her as I stay frozen in place. He lifts her head from the pool of blood beneath her. Louder than missiles, his screams almost deafen me. Within seconds, I'm being pushed to the side by the emergency crew.
I run out as soon as I see a clear path to the door. I fall on a chair in the lobby, gripping my chest. I got divorced and watched my friend die all within an hour. On Christmas Eve.
Fuck. My. Life.
Kurapika
Believe it or not, it hurts most when chains loosen rather than tighten. Your chain that was once wrapped around my heart is gone. I place my hand over my heart to make sure it's still beating. We've been through so much together. So why did I push you away? The answer remains the same. I simply don't deserve you.
Yes, all of your requests were granted. I didn't bother fighting you for anything. Hell...you can have all of my paychecks if you want. I just pray you don't use the money to buy drugs. I'm scared to death of your friends. No, not scared in the sense of feeling fearful. I'm scared they'll be a bad influence on you.
You look back at me. I pull on a smile. I probably look pathetic. You don't smile back. I turn away and walk toward a cliff without a parachute.
Leorio wraps his arm around my shoulder. I push him away. "Please, Leorio. Not now."
He looks away. "I just want you to know, I'm here for you."
I look at the floor. "I appreciate all you have done. However, there's no more love for me. Not from anyone."
He grabs my chin and points to Gon, Killua, and Alluka. "Your friends love you. I love you. Remember that."
I look at him then my group of friends. I smile. "You're right. Thank you."
He scratches the back of his head. "Listen...I always thought you were too good for (Y/N). I mean, you picked him up off the streets for Kami's sake."
I take a few steps back. "Leorio, what's gotten into you? (Y/N) is your friend."
The entire room can probably feel the anger radiating from him. "Tch. I pretended for your sake. I'm glad that junkie is finally out of your life."
I make a fist with my hand. "Leorio, I just lost the love of my life. Please...I can't lose my best friend too."
He grabs my shoulder. "You'll never lose me. I'm sorry. I'm just mad. That's all."
I spin the wedding band that's still on my finger. "Right."
"Let's get out of here, Sunshine. Everybody's waiting."
Everybody except...you.
(Y/N)
After talking to a few officers about the accident, I pull on my jacket and walk out of the building to the parking lot. I drive back home in silence. I'm not in the mood to listen to music.
I pull into the driveway. A moving truck is parked in my usual spot. Shit. I forgot Kurapika said he'd be moving his stuff out. Whatever. I'll just wait in the car. I'm too numb to move anyway. I don't know what to feel. Sure, Tilly wasn't exactly the most wonderful person in the world, but she was still a human with a heart filled with pain. And now I don't have a husband to comfort me. Hell...I don't have anyone.
I watch as Alluka walks out of the house. She looks back as if making sure she's alone. A look of sadness crosses her face.
I summon the strength to hop out of my car and run toward her. She looks up, shocked to see me. I wrap my arm around her waist.
"Alluka, what's the matter?"
She sniffles and wipes away her tears. "It's just so sad. I don't care what happened between the two of you. You and Kurapika belong together."
I feel like the biggest sinner in the world for making this precious girl cry. I deserve to be punished. I'm sure Killua will make sure that happens.
"I'm sorry, but this was Kurapika's idea."
She throws her arm down. "No! You should have fought harder."
I release her. "I'm sorry, Alluka. Really. I wish things didn't turn out this way."
Gon and Killua run out of the house, arguing.
"How did you not notice the tire was flat?" Killua asks Gon, pointing to the moving truck.
Gon throws his arms in the air. "I don't know. I wasn't the one driving it!"
Killua gives me an apologetic look. "Sorry, (Y/N). Looks like you're going to have to deal with Kurapika's stuff for another night."
"Uh...why don't you just change the tire?"
He looks at me as if I asked him to put together a million piece puzzle. "I'm not doing that."
"You can murder hundreds of people, but you can't change a simple tire?" I say, frustrated.
He shrugs his shoulders. "Look...it's Christmas Eve. Alluka wants me to take her to see the Christmas lights." He looks at his best friend. "C'mon, Gon. Let's get outta here."
The three of them run off, leaving me alone in the driveway.
I run my eyes across the walkway to my front door. The moment I've been afraid of is here.
It takes me almost a half an hour to turn the doorknob. I take a deep breath and walk inside the house that Kurapika no longer occupies.
I step in. The emptiness inside is so thick, I almost fall to the floor.
Later that evening...
I stare at the fireplace. I notice the empty space beside it where we used to put our Christmas tree. I see Kurapika didn't bother putting one up this year. I remember the first time we trimmed a tree together. He told me it was his first time decorating for Christmas.
My memory is interrupted by a knock on the door.
"It's open!" I shout, figuring it's probably Gon or Killua.
"(Y/N)?"
I jolt up. "Kurapika?" I turn to face the foyer. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm just here to pick up a few things. Gon and Killua didn't bring me any of my stuff. I promise...you won't know I'm here."
"You're not at the Christmas party?"
He shakes his head. "I don't know about you, but I'm not feeling very jolly this year."
I think about last year's Christmas party. Leorio throws one every year. Kurapika and I got drunk off eggnog. We laughed so hard that night, playing games and exchanging gifts with our friends. We ended the party slowly dancing to our favorite Christmas songs.
When we got back home, we were sobering up while drinking hot chocolate. If Santa is real, he definitely caught us having sex in front of the fireplace. I smile at the memory.
"What's so funny?" Kurapika says.
My smile fades as I come back to reality. "Uh...just thinking about last year's party."
A soft smile plays on Kurapika's lips. He's probably conjuring the same memories that are playing in my head.
"I should...uh...get my things," he says.
I lay back down on the couch. He's on the phone when he finishes packing. When he ends his call, he drops his arm and head.
"Is something wrong?" I say, sitting back up.
"I'm officially homeless. The studio apartment I rented won't be ready until after the holidays."
"That sucks."
He sits on the couch next to me, raking his fingers through his hair. I thought he said I wouldn't know he was here. I get up and walk to my room. I'll give him some time to find a hotel or something.
An hour passes by. I walk back to the living room. I didn't hear the front door open, but surely he's gone by now.
I stop dead in my tracks when I see him sleeping on my couch.
Wait...he doesn't live here anymore. I should wake him up.
I look out the window. The moving truck is still parked outside. Having Kurapika's stuff here doesn't bother me at all. Except those eyes. To be honest, they kinda freak me out.
I look back down at him. In all the years we've been together, this is the first time I've heard him snore. I smile. If we were still a couple, I'd make a video.
I kneel in front of Kurapika. Damn. I should be sleeping as well, but I can't take my eyes off of him. He's so fucking beautiful. His parents would be proud. He told me it was his father who didn't want him to leave the forest when he was younger. I find that hard to believe. As beautiful as his mother was, she had to know Kurapika would grow into a handsome man. Why would she allow him to go out and risk getting his heart broken by some loser? We had planned on starting a family. If I had his child, through adoption or surrogacy, I'd never let her out of my sight.
Kurapika squirms and stretches his arms out. He turns his face toward me. He blinks a few times.
"Oh, sorry, (Y/N). I didn't mean to fall asleep on your couch." He pushes himself up to a sitting position, rubbing his eyes. "I'll get out of your way."
I check the time. "Kurapika, it's almost two in the morning. Just stay."
He studies my face. "Are you sure?"
I get up and sit next to him. "Yeah. I can't kick you out to the streets on Christmas Day. Besides, I don't think I can handle sleeping alone in this house."
"You've done it many times before while I was out working."
"I...I know. It just feels different now because I know you're gone for good." I almost choke.
Kurapika stares down at nothing. I don't know if he's deep in thought or just tired.
The house is quiet. Too quiet. I clear my throat, debating if I want to ask him what's on my mind.
"Kurapika?" Fuck. I'm gonna do it. "What happened between us?"
He looks at me as if I just asked him to go skydiving with me.
"Kurapika? Do you still love me?"
I can almost feel him enter my brain by the way his eyes glare into mine. "Yes. Very much."
"Then...what happened?"
He hangs his head, staring at his folded hands. "Trust."
I nod, forcing my tears to stay put. "Right." I swallow hard. "You can't trust me. But for the record, Tilly actually forced a pill down my throat. I know what you saw looked bad, but nothing happened. Believe me, I'd never do anything that would jeopardize our marriage."
A look of shame crosses Kurapika's face. "You...have it wrong, (Y/N). It's me you can't trust."
I almost fall off the couch. "Wait...what? You're the most trustworthy person on this planet."
He buries his face in the crook of my neck. "I'm so sorry, (Y/N)." He lifts his head up, eyes wet. His lips brush against mine.
I don't know how to react. Do I kiss him back?
Stupid question. I part my lips and pull on his tongue.
I pull away, panting. I needed that kiss. "Kurapika, let's get back together. Please. I'm sure we can go to the courthouse and tell them we changed our minds."
"You'll never forgive me."
I punch the couch cushion. "Are you kidding me right now? I cheated on you and you still chose to marry me."
"That's because you were under the influence. And you experimented with drugs because of me."
"Kurapika, what did you do?"
I see his throat roll. "I cheated as well. However, I knew what I was doing."
Damn. I knew it. I fucking knew it. Nausea hits me. I want to kick him out of my house, but I can't seem to move. I wish I could take back that kiss.
"With who?" I whisper even though I already know the answer.
"Leorio."
Wait...Leorio is as straight as an arrow. "Did you sleep with him?"
He rests his face in his hands. "No. Worse."
What could be worse?
The wind outside blows against the windows. Dark and cold, just like my soul. I chew on my knuckles. I won't have any fingers left if he doesn't give me answers soon.
I don't know how much longer my heart will continue beating. "Let's go to the bedroom," I say. "We need to talk."
I sit on the bed, grabbing a pillow for support. He quietly closes the door behind him. He sits down next to me.
I wait for him to speak first. He offers me a smile, running his fingers through my hair. I close my eyes, enjoying the way his hands feel on me.
"(Y/N), I love you."
I come out of the trance he put me in. "But?"
He pulls his arm back. "I'm broken. I forced you away when you tried to comfort me. It appears that's my specialty."
"Will you tell me what happened already?" I say, voice loud.
Kurapika looks into my waiting eyes. "I allowed Leorio to comfort me."
My respirations increase. "What do you mean by..fort?"
"It all started when we found out I was sick. Since Leorio is a doctor, I put all my trust in him. Remember the day I gave you the divorce papers? He came over that night and...confessed his feelings for me."
I feel my jaw clench. "Then what?"
Kurapika looks away. "He kissed me."
I squeeze the pillow, pretending it's Leorio's throat. "Did you kiss him back?"
Tears fall down Kurapika's cheek. "Yes."
Light flashes in front of me, matching the rhythm of my heartbeat. "Answer me this...what made you stop things from going further?"
"You."
I point a finger at him. "You wanted to fuck him, didn't you?" My tears burn as they make their way down my cheeks. "You found comfort in him, huh? Does he know how to make you laugh? Does he know where you like to be kissed? Hell...does he even know your favorite restaurant? How we sometimes have to play rock, paper, scissors when we can't decide where to go eat and you get excited when you win?" I shake my head. "Sure, he met you before I did. But he doesn't know the true Kurapika. I do."
He doesn't say anything. I throw my pillow aside and stand up. "Grab your shit and get out of my house."
I cover my eyes with my hand, hiding the tears that won't stop pouring out of my eyes.
"(Y/N)...I..."
"Shut up. I don't ever want to hear your voice again."
"I...understand."
I look out the window and watch the headlights disappear as Kurapika drives away. I walk to the bathroom and look at my reflection in the mirror. I stare at the pathetic human in front of me. I'd be less mad if he told me he had a one night stand. But, no. He got tangled up in emotions.
I rinse my face, noticing he left his bottle of cologne. I toss it into the trash. The glass shatters, allowing his scent to fill my nose. I double bag the garbage and immediately throw it out. When I walk back into my house, I look around, taking in all the memories Kurapika left behind. He replaced the chains around my heart with a vice-grip.
I grab one of the throw blankets and settle into the recliner. Too exhausted to sleep, I rock back and forth, crying like a baby. Of all people...why Leorio?
I pull on my jacket. I don't care what time it is. I can't let Leorio get away with stealing my husband. I grab my keys and run to my car. Adrenaline runs through my veins as I drive to his apartment. I don't know what I'd do if I saw Kurapika there.
Not caring about waking up his neighbors, I pound on his door. He finally opens it, wearing nothing but boxers.
"(Y/N), what the hell are you doing here?"
I push him back until he loses balance and falls to the floor. I pull my arm back, driving it forward using full force.
Tears stream down my cheeks. "Where is he?"
He shields his face with his hands. "He's not here...he's at a hotel. I'm sorry...I didn't mean to get in between you two."
I punch him one more time. I hop off of him and leave his apartment. His blood drips from my fist, staining the carpet. That's all I wanted...an apology.
Epilogue
I moan. I grunt. I make noises I didn't know I was capable of making as I reach my climax. It feels so good to be inside of someone again.
I roll off of him with a huge smile plastered on my face. "Come here, you," I say, intertwining our fingers together. I use my free hand to run my fingers through his blonde hair.
My mind goes back to the day we found each other after the divorce.
Winter is finally ending. I'm hoping it will take my sadness away. I kneel in front of Tilly's tombstone. I feel bad for missing her funeral, but I was grieving my divorce.
Thinking I'll never find love again, I feel someone's hand on my shoulder. I look back. Tears well up in my eyes as I stand up and wrap my arms around him. He returns my hug.
"I thought you moved," I say.
"I did. But I still make visits to the cemetery," he says.
I pull away from him, wiping my eyes. "You look great."
He tucks some hair behind my ear. "As do you." His eyes move to Tilly's grave. "It's terrible the way she died."
I follow his line of sight. "Yeah. I feel like it was my fault."
He runs his hand up and down my arm. "Don't. She had too many drugs in her system, weakening her heart."
"I heard. But...still."
He kneels in front of the tombstone next to Tilly's. He furrows his brow. "I didn't know her brother died. What happened?"
I kneel next to him. "He took his own life after Tilly's funeral."
He stands up, extending his arm toward me. I take his hand and allow him to help me stand to my feet.
He reaches out and presses his lips against my cheek. "I'm glad I ran into you, (Y/N)."
I kiss his cheek. "Yeah. Same here...Kurapika."
I pull away and shake my ex-husband's hand. He spins around and walks away.
"Hey, Kurapika!" I shout.
He turns around. "Yes?"
"Are you seeing anyone?"
A smile crosses his face. "No. You?"
I shake my head. "No."
We stand in silence.
"Wanna grab some lunch?" I say.
"I'd love that."
He tells me all about how he's been spending his time. I congratulate him on retrieving two pairs of scarlet eyes.
"What about you, (Y/N)? How are you fairing?"
I shrug my shoulders. "Just taking some extra classes. You know...trying to keep myself as busy as possible.
He takes a sip of his green tea and smiles. "Good for you."
My heart beats so fast, I can barely breathe. "Kurapika, I want you to know that I forgive you."
His smile widens. "That means a lot to me. Thank you, (Y/N)."
The server drops the check off. We stare at each other.
He moved back in with me that same day. Three days later, we remarried.
Kurapika catches my fingers and kisses each one. "I never stopped loving you, (Y/N) Kurta."
I plant a trail of kisses on his neck. "Nothing will ever come between us again. That I promise."
His lips find mine and we share a passionate kiss.
"If we shall ever face challenges again, I promise not to leave you to face them alone. I'll run to you and only you for comfort."
My lips glide down his neck, pass his collarbone, down to his V. I lift my head, locking eyes with his. "Same here. There's not a drug in this world that comes close to giving me the high I'm feeling right now."
"(Y/N), I also promise to not focus so much on work. You're more important."
I move back up to his lips. "That makes me the happiest man on earth."
Laughter ripples through me.
"What's so funny?"
"Why couldn't we have this conversation before getting divorced?"
Kurapika looks away. "I honestly never expected you to forgive me. Not that I deserve your forgiveness."
I roll my eyes. "Not this again."
He spins me around and pins my arms above my head. "I'm sorry for hurting you."
"You already apologized. Like a thousand times."
He kisses my chest. "I'm just so lucky. I get to spend the rest of my life with my best friend."
I grind my hips against his, feeling myself get hard again. He kisses every inch of my body, making up for lost time.
Two defeated people decide to bury their past mistakes and focus on the future. We all make mistakes. It just takes a strong person to look past them.
And that is how you love a loser.
