I turned back—it was Victoria. She had exquisite makeup and was dressed as flamboyantly as always. Having just parked her car and removed her sunglasses, she strode toward me.
"What are you doing at the Cavendish house again?"
"None of your business?" I didn't want to deal with her.
But her eyes immediately fell on the shirt I was wearing.
Her eyes darkened, and she suddenly grabbed me, "What happened between you and Arnold? Why are you wearing his shirt?"
I looked down at the clothes I was wearing, not planning to explain.
This was his doing—let him explain it to his sweetheart himself.
"Ask him yourself."
"Bitch." She gritted her teeth, her voice vicious, "Don't think you have a chance just because you're back!"
I raised an eyebrow and smiled, "There's only one bitch here, and she's cursing at me."
"You!" She was so angry her features contorted.
I sneered and turned to leave, but heard her shout behind me: "Don't go."
I turned back, "Something else?"
She took a deep breath, forcing herself to be magnanimous, and pulled out an invitation from her bag, "I won't argue with you anymore. Paisley, although we've never gotten along, we've known each other for so many years. My birthday party is in two days—I'm inviting you to attend."
She paused, her eyes hiding a hint of showing off, "This birthday party is being thrown by Arnold for me. I heard he's going to give me a surprise—a fireworks show just like five years ago. You must come."
I looked down at the invitation, my brow slowly tightening.
Of course I remembered that fireworks show—it was like announcing their love to the whole world.
Seeing my expression change, Victoria's lips curved into a satisfied smile.
She knew this was a hurdle I could never get over in my heart.
I returned home and casually placed the invitation on the table.
Clara was passing by munching on an apple and glanced at it: "An invitation? Who gave it to you?"
"Victoria."
"Tsk." She rolled her eyes in disgust, "She actually gave you an invitation?"
"Her birthday party. Arnold will set off fireworks for her."
As soon as I said it, Clara understood.
Victoria was doing this on purpose. She knew that fireworks show was a thorn in my heart. Without that birthday party, maybe I wouldn't have been so heartbroken.
"That bastard Arnold—he can't remember his own wife's birthday, but he throws a big party for his mistress's birthday. Is he afraid people don't know he's a cheating dog?"
"Mommy, are you going?"
I looked up to see Rowan, Callum, and Elodie coming downstairs. They had all heard.
I rubbed my temples, "Mommy doesn't plan to go."
Although we had talked about divorce five years ago, we never went through with the procedures—we were still legally married.
He was throwing a party and setting off fireworks for his first love. What would I go there for? To be publicly humiliated?
Elodie picked up the exquisite invitation, her beautiful eyes rolling as she got an idea.
That evening, the three children began plotting.
Elodie raised her hand to speak first, "If Mommy won't go, we'll go. Bad Daddy threw a birthday party for Bad Auntie back then, which made Mommy's heart die. Now Bad Auntie is deliberately showing off—we need to get revenge for Mommy."
"I agree. Rowan?"
The two children looked at the wisest and calmest Rowan.
Rowan's little face was serious as he thought for a while. Under the nervous gazes of the two children, he nodded, "We can do it. We have two days to plan and turn this fireworks show into a joke for both of them."
Elodie pursed her lips, "But Mommy definitely won't let us go. If Mommy finds out, she might get angry."
Callum patted Elodie, "Dummy, we'll naturally do it secretly."
"But we promised Mommy we'd be good and obedient." Elodie was very hesitant, but only for a second. The little girl clenched her small fists and said, "Being naughty one last time should be okay."
