Early the next morning, I took the three children to look at schools.
The divorce from Arnold involved massive property division and would have to go through court proceedings—at best a month, at worst... who knows how long it could drag on.
I didn't want to be unprepared. I still needed to arrange the children's schooling first. Otherwise, once Clara left and I was alone with three children while working, I simply couldn't manage everything.
Last night I had picked out several schools online, and this one looked quite good.
After arriving at the school, I chatted with the teachers and learned about the basic situation. The children also quite liked it here, nodding in agreement to attend classes.
The procedures were completed quickly, and the school matter was smoothly resolved.
They would start school tomorrow, but today all three children were busier than the last, each eager to get home, acting mysteriously. When I asked what they were busy with, they refused to say.
After sending them home, I went alone with the prepared divorce agreement to find Arnold.
But he wasn't at the company.
I called him several times in a row. The calls went through, but no one answered.
I frowned, with an uneasy feeling in my heart. Why did it feel like he was deliberately avoiding me?
But there was nothing I could do if I couldn't find him now. Time waits for no one—today was my first official day at work. I had to go to the auction house and couldn't afford to delay any longer.
Just as I reached the entrance, I saw a girl wearing black-rimmed glasses standing there, looking like she was waiting for me.
As soon as she saw me, she immediately approached, "Lacey, hello. I'm Emily, the assistant Mr. Smith arranged for you."
I looked her over—holding documents, with a quiet and honest appearance. She didn't seem difficult to get along with.
I didn't have any particular requirements for an assistant anyway. If Ryan arranged her, she was probably competent.
I nodded, "Hello."
As we walked inside, she handed me the documents from her arms.
"Lacey, there's an auction in five days, running from 1 PM to 8 PM. Mr. Smith has arranged for you to be in charge. Here are the auction item materials for you to review first."
"Good." I took the documents and pushed open the office door to enter.
Third Person Perspective
At home, the three children had a clear division of labor and worked in perfect coordination, determined to make Victoria and Arnold pay at Victoria's birthday party for hurting Mommy back then.
On Victoria's birthday—
At 6:30 PM, on the top floor of New York's most luxurious hotel, the perfect location for viewing fireworks.
The fireworks would begin promptly at eight o'clock.
Every year for her birthday, Arnold would prepare exquisite gifts for Victoria. Booking venues for fireworks shows had long become routine, making others extremely envious.
Tonight's Victoria was like a princess from a fairy tale, stunningly beautiful, with everyone surrounding her with endless praise.
Amid everyone's flattery, she said shyly, "Stop it, everyone is beautiful."
"Victoria, Mr. Cavendish spoils you so much, preparing so carefully for your birthday every year. Are you two getting married soon? We're all waiting to attend the wedding!"
Victoria smiled gently, "Arnold has always prioritized work. We're not in a hurry about marriage—as long as we have each other in our hearts, that's enough."
Everyone became even more envious after hearing this.
"Even though you say that, Mr. Cavendish must want to marry you soon too. Tonight's birthday party is so grand—could it be a proposal?"
As soon as she finished speaking, excited cheers immediately erupted around them—
"Yes, yes, yes! I think tonight is the proposal too!"
"Oh my god, I'm getting excited!"
Although she knew Arnold probably didn't have such plans, Victoria couldn't help but feel somewhat expectant—if he really proposed tonight, how wonderful that would be.
In everyone's heated discussion, this rumor spread like a snowball, with everyone beginning to speculate that Arnold would propose to Victoria tonight.
On the other side, hearing this news, Rowan, Callum, and Elodie's three little faces instantly turned cold.
"Bad Daddy is actually going to propose to Bad Auntie today?" Callum angrily put his hands on his hips, "He hasn't even divorced Mommy yet!"
"Exactly, exactly!" Elodie held a strawberry cake, her little face puffed up with anger.
Rowan calmly crossed his arms and sneered, "Don't worry. Not only will he not be able to propose tonight, he'll be publicly humiliated."
"Right, right!" Elodie bit into a blueberry cake, her mouth nearly stuffed full.
Rowan looked at her helplessly, "Elodie, didn't you say when you came that you absolutely wouldn't eat anything here, not even one bite?"
Elodie seriously retorted, "Elodie didn't eat one bite. Elodie ate many bites."
Rowan & Callum: "......"
After finishing the small cake, Elodie licked her lips and set her sights on a particularly tempting chocolate cake.
Just as she was about to pounce and take a big bite, Rowan quickly pulled her back, "Elodie, business first."
"But Bad Daddy isn't here yet, and the fireworks haven't started." She blinked her big eyes, looking innocent.
"So we need to check where the control room is in advance."
Elodie nodded, instantly entering combat mode, "Understood!"
"Let's go!"
Elodie obediently followed her two brothers, but after just two steps, she suddenly turned back, took a big "chomp" out of that chocolate cake, then ran off contentedly.
Meanwhile, at Cavendish Group—
"Sir, Miss Hayes' birthday party is about to begin. Do you want to go now?" the assistant asked respectfully.
