"Sir asked me to contact people."
Victoria stiffly forced a smile: "I... I see. You'd better go quickly then."
Neil didn't delay and immediately left.
But he seemed to have just heard Victoria saying something about a brat.
No time to think deeply - the contacted people had already driven to the entrance. Neil immediately got in the car to chase after Arnold.
Victoria was still shaken, not knowing how much Neil had heard. She picked up her phone again, lowering her voice: "Someone is looking for you. Be careful."
"Got it."
Victoria hung up, deleted the call record, her eyes full of malicious intent.
I frantically pressed the accelerator, racing to the location at top speed. It was very remote, desolate and cold all around. The black car from the surveillance appeared before me, parked beside a dilapidated small house.
I rushed out of the car and pulled open the car door - it was empty.
My heart tightened as I turned my gaze to that shabby little house, an inexplicable chill rising within me.
Taking a deep breath, I picked up a thick branch from the ground, gripped it tightly, and walked toward the house. The moment I pushed open the door, my pupils dilated dramatically...
The interior was dilapidated, with wind coming through everywhere. The ground was covered with debris, and a pool of bright red blood was particularly shocking in this desolate environment.
Beside the messy pile of objects lay a white shoe, stained with blood, startling to see.
My mind went blank as I walked into the house and picked up that shoe.
It was Elodie's shoe, but she was nowhere to be seen.
I forced open my aching eyes as the urgent footsteps of police rushing in reached my ears.
I stiffly turned around, opened my mouth to speak, but no sound came out.
"This is Elodie's shoe... it's Elodie's shoe..." I choked out.
Seeing the scene, the police, with years of case experience, instantly realized the worst possibility - the child might already be dead.
Everyone's faces immediately became grave. Obviously, we were all one step too late.
I held the shoe, my breathing trembling, tears welling up in my eyes but never falling.
A policeman beside me opened his mouth to speak, but I couldn't hear any words clearly.
Now I only knew the trail had gone cold, and Elodie's fate was unknown.
The police wanted me to leave the scene first. I stiffly turned around, my head throbbing, my mind constantly filled with all the terrors Elodie might have experienced.
I couldn't imagine her, so small, having to go through all this.
Not knowing if she was dead or alive...
These words flashed through my mind, and my body shook violently. I barely managed to steady myself by gripping the door frame.
After a long while, I heavily walked out of the house.
Outside, the sky had darkened, black and oppressive, suffocating.
Suddenly, my phone rang in my pocket.
The phone rang for a long time before I reacted, hurriedly taking it out and answering: "Hello..."
"Mommy, has sister been found?" It was Rowan's voice on the other end.
This sentence tore at my heart like a knife. My throat felt stuffed with cotton, unable to make a sound.
After a long while, I finally said: "Not... yet..."
"Mommy, we have a new discovery - it's sister's watch location," Rowan said urgently.
"Location?" My voice trembled.
"Yes, Mommy, quickly check your phone."
Elodie's watch had always been connected to my phone, allowing real-time tracking.
Previously we couldn't find the location, thinking the watch was broken or the kidnappers had taken it.
But now, Rowan and Callum had found the location again.
I tremblingly opened my phone, and the disappeared location reappeared.
Light rekindled in my eyes as I turned and ran to the police: "This is Elodie's location!"
The police looked at me in surprise and immediately deployed professional equipment to track it.
Just then, my phone rang again - an unknown number.
My heart rate suddenly accelerated.
The call was actually from Elodie!
I repeatedly confirmed the number - it was definitely her.
My body trembling violently, I pressed answer, and the police signaled me to put it on speaker.
A faint voice came through the phone...
"Mommy..."
"Elodie?" I was so excited I nearly cried. "It's Mommy, it's Mommy. How are you? Talk to Mommy..."
"Mommy... Elodie hurts so much. Will Elodie never see Mommy again..." she sobbed, her voice weak.
Hearing her voice, my heart felt like it was being cut with a knife.
Enduring the pain, I asked: "Elodie, don't be afraid. Mommy and the police uncles are all rescuing you. Mommy promises you'll be fine. Tell Mommy, where are you now? How can you make phone calls?"
"Elodie... is in a car..." her voice was so soft it was almost inaudible, and I couldn't make out the last few words.
"Elodie? Elodie? Can you still hear Mommy?" I asked anxiously.
