Arnold seemed to hear something and turned around, but only saw the bustling corridor with no one calling him.
He frowned. Was it his imagination?
In that moment of hesitation, Callum had already been grabbed by Rowan, who covered his mouth and pulled him into the crowd nearby.
Callum's little face was red with anger. He pushed away his brother's hand and said furiously: "Rowan, don't stop me! I want to ask him if he's blind—why does he always protect that bad woman and let her hurt Mommy? She's ugly and mean—what's good about her!"
Rowan looked at him calmly, his tone gentle but steady: "I know you're angry. I'm angry too. But if you rush out like this, you'll only make things worse and cause trouble for Mommy. You need to calm down."
"I can't calm down!" Callum clenched his small fists, charging forward angrily like a bristling little mouse.
Rowan stood in place, his tone composed: "Do you want to be taken away by that bad daddy and make Mommy sad? Then go ahead."
These words hit Callum like a thunderbolt, instantly freezing him in place. Like someone had pressed his pause button, he suddenly went quiet and dejectedly hugged his arms, crouching in the corner.
Rowan walked over, crouched in front of him, and gently patted his shoulder: "Come on, let's go back. Mommy and Uncle Dominic will definitely find a way."
Callum looked up at him unwillingly: "So we do nothing now? Just watch that bad woman gloat?"
"She won't be arrogant much longer." Rowan's tone was firm.
"Really?"
"Mm."
The brothers looked at each other for a few seconds. Finally, Callum nodded, his emotions gradually calming down.
After Rowan spent a long time persuading him, he finally brought Callum back to the room.
Meanwhile, in Victoria's room, her fainting had been an act. As soon as Arnold left, she called the Hayes family.
Two of the three men had been arrested. Facing police interrogation, she was afraid they would implicate her. She had to immediately find a way to deal with them, or she would be finished.
Elodie didn't wake up until the next morning. At that moment, Clara, Rowan, Callum, and I were all by her side.
When she opened her eyes and saw us, tears immediately welled up. Her small body trembled slightly, her sobs heartbreaking.
I had fallen asleep lying by her bed. Hearing her soft crying, I jerked my head up, my heart immediately jumping to my throat.
"Elodie?" I quickly got up, bent down and gently held her small hand. "Baby, you're awake. Does it hurt anywhere? Don't cry, Mommy's here, Mommy's here..."
When she cried, my heart felt like something had grabbed it hard. That pain was a hundred times worse than being hurt myself.
Hearing the commotion, Clara, Rowan, and Callum also woke up and immediately gathered around.
"Elodie!"
