Isadora thought I was just bluffing. She laughed and left.
But I'd already noticed it—a faint red mark creeping across her wrist. The first sign of divine retribution.
Over the next few days, Isadora visited daily just to humiliate me.
Meanwhile, Kael acted like I didn't exist. Never once stepped foot in the dungeons.
Heard he was living it up, finally experiencing all the alpha privileges his paralyzed legs had denied him.
This afternoon, Isadora came again with her guards. The moment she walked in, she slapped me.
The red marks on her wrist had deepened. Similar traces were crawling up her face.
"You bitch! What kind of curse did you put on me?" She clutched her face, shaking with rage.
"I'm supposed to be bonded to Kael tomorrow! How can I attend the ceremony looking like this? What have you done!"
I didn't bother explaining. Just watched her panic with cold satisfaction.
One of her guards offered advice: "Miss, I heard moon witches use ancient curses. You need the caster's arterial blood to break it..."
Arterial blood? My heart stopped. "There's no such curse! Get Kael! I need to see Kael!"
Isadora smiled cruelly. "He doesn't give a damn about you anymore. And he even told me I could do whatever I wanted with you."
With that, she had them gag me with a filthy rag, then nodded to the guard.
The blade sliced deep into my right wrist. Blood spurted like a fountain as I screamed behind the gag, cold sweat pouring down my face.
Isadora pinched her nose in disgust while they collected my blood in a bowl.
Three minutes later, I passed out from blood loss.
When I woke up again. It was already the next afternoon.
Celebration music echoing through the packhouse and dungeons.
I suddenly remembered that today was Kael and Isadora's mating ceremony.
In the dim light, I shakily raised my right hand. My pupils contracted in horror.
My palm hung limp and useless, like a broken puppet's. No matter how hard I tried, only my pinky twitched slightly.
The hand that had wielded moonsilver needles for years was destroyed.
Pain crashed over me again. I finally broke down sobbing.
Footsteps approached. I grabbed a glass shard with my left hand, hiding it behind my back.
This time, I'd take someone down with me.
But too bad it was not Isadora's guards, just a pack servant.
"Miss Nyx, Alpha Kael requests your presence at the mating ceremony. Please change and come upstairs."
I said nothing. Once she unlocked the door and left, I stumbled out of the dungeon.
I ignored the formal dress Kael had prepared. Instead, I found random clothes from a storage room and climbed the stairs, cradling my mangled right hand.
The main hall was filled with elegant music. Isadora wore a thick veil to hide her cursed features, gracefully holding Kael's arm.
Kael stood beside her, one hand in his pocket, eyes scanning the crowd.
My gaze dropped to his legs. From his unnatural stance, I could tell they wouldn't hold him much longer.
I turned around and walked toward the back exit.
From now on, Kael would never find me again.
