At the mating ceremony, Kael kept glancing toward the entrance, searching for Nyx.
After all these days, she should have learned her lesson by now.
Truth was, spending time with Isadora made him miss Nyx constantly.
She was gentle and understanding. Never threw tantrums like Isadora always did.
Few days ago, he'd secretly built a house outside the pack, planning to move Nyx there.
But lately, something felt wrong. His legs ached constantly, muscle spasms becoming regular.
Good thing he had Nyx. She'd know how to fix whatever was happening.
The ceremony was about to start. All the guests had arrived—except Nyx.
Kael finally called over a servant, asking if his orders had been forgotten.
But the servant insisted she'd personally unlocked Nyx's door.
Isadora interrupted, irritated. "Kael, don't let nobody ruin our moment! She's probably still sulking. This is our bonding ceremony—I won't have you thinking about her!"
Kael frowned but went through with the ritual halfheartedly.
The celebration dragged on for hours. By the time the last guests left, it was past ten.
Kael lay on his bed, temples throbbing from too much pack wine.
He suddenly remembered how Nyx used to brew him herbal tea when he was drunk, then use her moonsilver needles to ease his pain.
The memory made him restless. He threw on his jacket—he needed to find out where Nyx had gone.
However, while walking past the bathroom, he heard strange sounds inside.
A sickly sweet metallic smell hit his nostrils.
Kael slowly pushed the door open and froze.
Isadora stood with her back to him, smearing fresh red liquid across her face.
Ahhhh!
In the next second, they locked eyes in the mirror. Both screamed.
"What the fuck are you doing?" Kael's voice shook.
Isadora frantically washed the red substance off her face. "It's... it's a new type of face mask. For skincare."
"Don't move." Kael grabbed her chin roughly.
Without the red liquid, her face showed clearly—angry red welts crawling across her skin like living things.
"What the hell is this?"
His voice was ice cold. Dread filled his chest.
"It's all Nyx's fault!" Isadora broke down sobbing. "That bitch cursed those needles!"
Kael's temple pulsed. "What do you mean cursed needles? Did you touch her moonsilver set?"
Isadora felt a chill. This Kael was different—dangerous. He'd never gotten angry with her before.
Her confidence crumbled. "I... I saw how she kept making you angry, so I... destroyed her needle case..."
"WHAT?!"
