Kael's fury exploded.
Three years together—he knew exactly how precious those needles were to Nyx.
He'd ordered them confiscated, but never intended for them to actually be destroyed!
Kael sobered up instantly. He immediately ordered a search of every room in the pack, even sent teams to Nyx's old quarters. Nothing.
Finally, he headed to the dungeons himself.
Nyx had last been seen there. There had to be clues.
When he opened the iron door, a heavy metallic stench hit him. His beta and guards both stepped back instinctively.
Kael's face went pale. In the dim light, he spotted scratches on the wall—tally marks carved with stones.
His chest tightened. Were those Nyx's?
How many days had he locked her up? He'd actually lost count.
"A-Alpha..." his beta's voice trembled from the corner. "Look at this..."
Kael crouched down to find a massive dried blood pool.
Scattered nearby were long strands of blood-stained hair.
His breathing stopped. Heart hammering against his ribs.
The image of Isadora smearing red liquid on her face flashed through his mind.
Was that Nyx's blood?
"Bring me Isadora. NOW."
His voice carried a deadly calm that made everyone present shiver.
When Isadora arrived, Kael didn't stand. Just pointed at the blood pool.
"Tell me what this is."
Isadora inhaled sharply.
Though Kael's tone was casual, his eyes were arctic. The alpha pressure was suffocating.
"It's... it's because Nyx was disobedient. She talked back to me, so I had the guards teach her a small lesson."
"A small lesson?" Kael stood slowly, his smile razor-sharp as he approached the guard behind her.
Without warning, he grabbed the man's wrist.
"AHHH!" The battle-hardened guard screamed, shaking violently from pain.
It was a pressure point technique Nyx had once shown him. She knew every nerve and bone in the body, but lacked the physical strength to use it effectively on larger opponents.
Kael had no such limitations.
"Was it this hand?" His voice was ice. "What else did you touch?"
The guard sobbed. "Alpha, please! Luna Isadora ordered it! She came every day to torture Miss Nyx—even made me sever her hand tendons!"
"You're lying!" Isadora shrieked. "You're the one who said moon witches had ancient curses! That we needed the healer's arterial blood to break them!"
Kael's grip tightened. The guard passed out from the pain.
"Get rid of him," Kael ordered, not taking his eyes off Isadora.
His beta quickly had the unconscious guard dragged away.
"Kael..." Isadora was terrified. She'd never seen him like this. "But you said I could do whatever I wanted with her, as long as I was happy..."
Rage flared in Kael's eyes. He grabbed her chin viciously, ripping away the veil that hid her cursed face.
"I was blind to your true nature," he snarled through gritted teeth.
"From today on, this dungeon is your new home. You're going to experience every pain and torment you put Nyx through!"
The moment he finished speaking, sharp agony shot through Kael's legs.
CRASH!
He knelled to the ground with a heavy thud, unable to stand no matter how hard he tried.
