It had been two months since Preston had come back to school and everyday was worse than the first one. He had been ignoring all the messages Robert had been leaving him. As much as he wanted to just pick up the phone and call him he couldn’t, not when his life was being put in danger. He was glad it was spring break; he just wanted to go home. Just to get away from here and from Robert and his new girlfriend Chloe. He knew that he shouldn’t really be jealous; he was the one that break up with Robert. According to Vera, Robert wasn’t going home for Spring Break. He was going to Miami with Chloe. Preston was glad; he didn’t have to worry about running into Robert. Preston finished packing his bag and took it to the living room and waited for Xavier and Ann Marie to get here. While Preston waited he thought of Nora, Robert’s little sister, this was the time she should be finding out what she was having. He bet that Nora wasn’t too happy when she found out Robert wasn’t going home. He missed her and Tanya; he wished he could talk them again. He knew he couldn’t without them asking him why he broke up with Robert.
“Hey you ready to go, Ann Marie is waiting for us?” Xavier said.
“Yeah I’m ready,” Preston got up and grabbed his bag and stepped out of the apartment. They picked up Ann Marie and took off home.
“I can’t believe you’re not going home, I’m surprise Nora hasn’t come over here to strangle you.” Vera said to Robert as he was loading up his car.
“Like I said before she understands why I’m not going home. Besides I’m meeting Chloe’s parents.” This was a lie, Chloe and her parents are not on speaking terms ever since she told them she was a lesbian. He was just tagging along with her and her new girlfriend. He just didn’t want to be home right now, things were tense with his uncle ever since Rose died.
“What the hell, you don’t ever meet the parents of your girlfriends, I know you don’t really like this girl. You will never love anyone like you loved Preston.” Robert was really getting tired of Vera’s nagging lately.
“Vera stop it, I know what you’re trying to do, but it’s not going to work. Remember he broke up with me, he doesn’t want me. Now let me move on with my life. I’m not going to waste my time waiting for him to realize he made a mistake. I’m done doing that.” It had been two months and Preston hadn’t even bothered to talk to him after he had left him message after message. He was done waiting and he needed to move on.
“I just don’t think you should give up on him just yet.”
“I know you don’t, but for my own good I need too.” Robert closed his trunk and went to the driver side and got in. “I’ll see you when I come back, have fun at home.” Robert drove off to pick up Chloe and drive to Miami.
Antonio was sitting at his desk he had a big case coming up in an hour and he had a feeling he might not win it. His head hasn’t been in the case at all. He had to win this case or he was going to have a very pissed off mob boss on his back. He heard his assistant tell him he had a call from Mister Gold, he picked up the phone.
“Hello this is Mr. Castillo what can I do for you?”
“Yes I’m Edgar Gold and I’m your daughter’s doctor, I couldn’t get a hold of her or your wife, but I was just calling to say I had to move back Nora’s ultrasound appointment to Wednesday instead of Monday.”
“What ultrasound appointment?”
“She has an appointment schedule to have an ultrasound done; this ultrasound will tell you the sex of the baby.” Once he heard baby, Antonio dropped the phone. He couldn’t believe she had been keeping this from him and that Tanya knew as well. He picked up the phone and told the doctor he will be sure to give her the message. He looked at the clock and saw that he could not do anything until after the trial. He grabbed his files and left for the courthouse. Throughout the trial his mind kept going back to what he found out, he wasn’t paying attention to what was going on, before he knew it the trail had ended and they had found his client guilty. This was the first time he had ever lost a trial; he knew that Albert was not going to be happy about his right hand man going to prison. He left the courthouse before Albert could get to him and called his assistant to cancel all his meetings and he wasn’t coming back to the office. He drove home and waited for Nora to get home. As soon as Nora and Tanya walked into the house he pounced on them.
“So when was I going to find out you were pregnant?” Nora went pale when her uncle asked that question; all she could think about was how he found out. “What, did you think that I wasn’t going to find out until the little bastard was born? Did you think you could keep this from me? Well since you tried to deceive me, you are no longer staying here. And since it is too late to get rid of it, I’m going to send you away until you have that illegitimate baby. After that I will think about letting you come back.”
Nora was going to leave here, but she was going with Vince. She wasn’t going to take her uncles abuse anymore.
“No you are not sending me away, I’m moving out.” Nora said, her uncle laughed in her face.
“And how do you plan on supporting yourself and that little bastard you’re carrying?” she had enough; he had no right to can her baby a bastard.
“My baby is not a bastard, it has a father and the father loves us. I’m moving in with Vince.” He laughed even harder.
“You really believe Vince’s uncle is going to support you and this bastard?”
“Yes I do, besides he already knows about it and told me if I ever need a place to stay I am always welcomed at his house.” When he heard that he stopped laughing, he couldn’t believe everyone knew but him.
“Get out of my house right now!” her yelled at her.
“You don’t need to tell me twice!” Nora shouted back at him as she turned around to leave. “Oh by the way dear uncle I think it’s time everyone found out about the families dirty little secret.” She walked out and slammed the door. Antonio yelled out in frustration, and then he turned to face Tanya.
“This is all your fault, you let these kids think they can do whatever they want and now look at what is going on. That little bitch is going to ruin everything!” Tanya was tired of all of his bullshit.
“Don’t you dare call her that and you know what I want a divorce. I’m tired of you and I’m in love with someone else.”
“Like hell I’m going to give you one just so you could go with that loser brother of mine.”
“He is more of a man than you will ever be, if you don’t give me the divorce, I will make sure to make your life a living hell.” He stared at her; he could see she wasn’t lying.
“Fine get out of here, I don’t need any of you.” Tanya turned around to leave and slammed the door. Once everyone was gone Antonio walked into his office and started drinking. Everything he had worked so hard for was going down the drain. He had let down one of his biggest clients, whom most likely going to make him pay. It’s only a matter of time before that little bitch lets out the dirty little secret he had worked so hard to keep hidden. He lost the only person he cares about most in this world and she wasn’t ever going to come back. He finished off the last of the bottle before reaching for another one. He was half way with the bottle when he decided to go up to Rose’s room. He walked in and sat on the bed. He hated not being able to see her, to hear her voice or to see her smiling face. He so badly wanted to be with her again. He walked over to her desk and grabbed a pen and paper. He wrote on the paper and folded it and walked into Robert’s room. He walked over to the book shelf and grabbed a book. He took the letter and placed it in the book and then he put it back on the shelf. He walked back to Rose’s room and went over to the closet; he tested to see if the bar would hold his weight. He grabbed a chair and one of her belts. He placed the chair in the closet under the bar, then he looped the belt over the bar and then stood on the chair. He then placed the belt loop around his neck and tightens it.
“I will be seeing you real soon princess.” He said as he jumped off the chair.
It was early in the evening when they finally pulled up to their hotel. They decided to freshen up and then head over to the night clubs. Robert was ready for a night of getting drunk and forgetting all his worries. After everything that had been happening he needed a night out. A night out that could help him move on and forget about Preston.
When Preston finally got home he headed straight to his room, he was tired and wasn’t in the mood to go out. He told Vera that they would go out tomorrow night. As soon as Preston’s head hit the pillow he was out.
When the housekeeper walked into the house, she thought it was weird that nobody was home. There was always someone home on Saturday. She started cleaning the upstairs bedrooms. As she was walking down the hallway, she had noticed that someone had left the door open to Miss Rose’s room; the housekeeper knew that that room was always kept locked. Since she thought that it was left open so she could clean it, she walked in but stopped when she saw a horrible sight, in the closet she found Mr. Castillo hanging from the bar. She ran out of the room and called 911, she then called Miss Tanya to tell her about what she found.
“Hello Lupe what can I do for you?” Tanya said.
“Oh Miss Tanya I have something bad I have to tell you. Today when I came to clean I found Mr. Castillo dead and he was hanging in the closet of Miss Rose’s room.” Tanya dropped her phone when she heard Lupe say that Antonio was dead, she couldn’t believe he had committed suicide. She picked her phone up.
“Ok Lupe I will be there very soon.” She hung up her phone and turned to face Cristian.
“What’s wrong?” Cristian asked.
“That was the housekeeper and she just called to tell me that she found Antonio dead, he was hanging in the closet. Oh my god I can’t believe he did that. I need to call Nora and Robert to let them know.” She dialed Robert’s number first and waited for him to answer.
Robert was woken up to the ringing of his phone. He reached over and silenced it; if it is important they will leave a message. He threw the phone back on the nightstand, when it started to ring again. He thought he better answer it, it must be important if they are calling again. “Ugh hello,” he said as he sat up in the bed, which wasn’t a good idea. He felt the room spinning; he couldn’t believe he drank so much last night.
“Robert I need you to come home right now.” His mom said. Robert looked at the clock by the bed and saw it was barely eight. He really didn’t feel like he was in any condition to drive home. His head was pounding and he felt sick to his stomach.
“Mom what’s wrong, why do I need to come home? To tell you truth I’m really hung over right now I don’t think I could really drive all the way home.”
“Robert your uncle committed suicide last night.” When he heard that he snapped out of his sleepy daze and hung over state.
“Ok mom I’m going to leave right now I’ll see you in a couple of hours.”
“Ok mijo see you soon and be careful.” Robert hung up his phone and looked around the room and noticed some one in the bed with him. Shit he thought, he had brought someone back to his room last night. He got out of the bed and put some clothes on and grabbed his bags. He left a note for the person in his bed and walked out of the room. He call Chloe’s phone but got her voicemail. He didn’t have time to wake her and tell her that he had to leave. He left her a message to call him when she woke up and that he was sorry he had to bale on them. He checked out of his room and got into his car and took off home. It was early in the afternoon when Robert got home. He walked into the house and found his mom and Nora in the living room. He could see that they were crying; he wasn’t sure if it was because they were actually sad about his uncle’s death or at just the thought that he died in this house.
“Hey everyone, how are we doing?”
“We are fine mijo, just in shocked that your uncle would do this.”
“I know I’m still having a hard time wrapping my head around it.” Robert looked at Nora; he knew that this wasn’t good for her or the baby. She was going to start to worry.
‘How you doing Nora, do you need anything?”
“No Robert I’m fine, I don’t know maybe just confused, shocked. I just have all these emotions running through my head right now.”
Maybe you should go lie down or eat something.”
“I think I will go lay down.”
“Ok,” they watched as she made her way to her room.
“So what do we need to do?”
“Nothing, your uncle had everything ready ahead of time. We just need to get through the next couple of days.”
“Ok can I get you anything mom?”
“No mijo I’m fine, why don’t you just go and rest up. We are going to have people here soon.” Robert nodded and went up to his room; these were going to be the longest few days of his life.
Preston woke up on Sunday morning and went down for breakfast. He found everyone at the table already eating.
“Morning family how is everyone?” Preston sat next to Ann Marie.
“Pretty good, hey do you want to shoot some hoops later son?” his dad asked.
“Yeah sure that sounds great.” Preston started to eat but stopped when he heard his mom gasp while she was reading the newspaper. “What’s wrong mom?”
“Did you know that Robert’s dad passed away? He committed suicide Friday night and his funeral is tomorrow morning.” When Preston heard that Robert’s uncle was dead, he snapped his head up from his plate. He couldn’t believe it; the one person that was standing in his way of being with Robert was gone. This meant he could finally tell Robert the truth and be with him. “Oh my god that is so horrible for them, didn’t he just lose a sister?” Erin said as she put the paper down and Preston reached for it and looked at it. There it was; Robert’s uncle really did kill himself. He had to see Robert, he had to tell him. He was going to get up from the table and leave but was stopped by Ann Marie. She leaned over to him and whispered, “I know what you’re going to do, but I would wait. Let them have this time to themselves. Then you can go tell Robert the truth.” Preston knew she was right and stayed in his seat. This was going to be a long week.
It was the day of the funeral and Chloe had insisted on being there with Robert. He was glad she came; he could use someone to keep him company while greeting people. He felt bad because he was ruining her spring break by having her here with him, but she told him she didn’t mind. That’s what friends do for each other. The day was slowly dragging and so many people were showing up to the house. Robert was ready to explode, until Chloe pulled him outside.
“Thanks I needed that I thought my head was going to explode in there.”
“No problem. Come on lets go for a walk. I need to talk to you.” They walked to the tree house and climbed in.
“So what did you have to talk to me about?” Robert said as he sat down, he hadn’t been in here since the first time he and Preston made love, he smiled to himself.
“I wanted to talk about the other night; I think we ended up sleeping together.” Robert’s head snapped up and looked at Chloe.
“But how I don’t remember?”
“Well I don’t remember either but when I woke up I was in your bed and that was when you had already left.” When she said that he knew it was true.
“Oh my god you were the person in my bed when I woke up. Crap I’m so sorry Chloe, I didn’t mean for that to happen.”
“I know and I don’t blame you, but I’m just worried that I don’t think we used protection.” Robert ran his fingers through his hair, he couldn’t believe he messed up this bad.
“Oh my god, crap I don’t think we did, I just can’t really remember. I was so out of it, oh my god have you told Emily yet, oh god she is going to hate me.”
“I did and she isn’t mad, just worried I might be pregnant.”
“If you are, whatever you want I will help you with.”
“Well I thinking about it and I want to keep it if I am and I would love it if you would be a part of his or her life as well.”
“Of course I would love to be in its life.” Robert hugged her.
Preston had pulled up to Robert’s house and got off with Vera. He hadn’t told Vera that he had come here to get Robert back. They walked inside and found Nora.
“Hey Nora, I’m sorry about your loss.
“Thanks Preston, by the way I really miss you.”
“I miss you too; do you know where I can find Robert?” Preston could see Nora’s face light up when he asked for Robert. According to Vera, Nora had taken it the hardest when he broke up with Robert.
“Yeah he went outside; you might want to check out the tree house.”
“Ok thanks Nora,” Preston went out the backdoor and headed towards the tree house. When he got closer he could hear Robert talking to someone up there. He walked closer to hear, than he heard the girl say she was pregnant and he just knew that it was Chloe up there. That was all Preston could stand to hear, there was no way he was going to get Robert back now. He was going to start a family with his girlfriend and there is no way he was going to let his kid grow up without him in its life. Life was truly unfair, just when he thought everything was looking up for him; there was karma to strike him down once again. Preston ran back inside to tell Vera that he had to leave and walked out to his mom’s car. He got in and drove back home.
