In the two months that passed since school ended, Robert had become an uncle. Nora had her baby girl which they named Zoë and she was the splitting image of Nora. Now Robert was sitting in the doctor’s office with Chloe and waiting to see what they were going to have. Robert was happy and sad at the same time; he had hoped that Preston would have been in here with them, but not everything in life works out how you want it to. He had been thinking a lot about him, a few days ago was Preston’s birthday. He had tried calling him to wish him a happy birthday but he never answered. Now in a few days it was going to be a year since his life was changed forever by him. It was also the date Nora and Vince set for their simple wedding they were having at his parents’ house.
“Hey what’s wrong?” Chloe asked Robert.
“Oh nothing just that it’s going to be a year since I met Preston. I have just been thinking about him a lot.”
“I really wish you would try talking to him.”
“Believe me I have tried, he just doesn’t want to talk to me.”
“Just don’t give up just yet; I still believe you two will end up together.” Robert smiled at that as the doctor walked in and got started. Robert watched the screen and smiled as he could hear the two heartbeats.
“Well it looks like you are getting a set; congrats it’s a boy and girl.” The doctor said. Robert hugged Chloe and kissed her on the forehead. He couldn’t wait to tell everyone. They left and headed home, when they got there everyone was there waiting to hear the news.
“It’s a boy and girl.” He said as everyone was hugging them.
“So have you thought about any names yet?” Vera asked.
“No not yet, I still have time to think about it.” Robert said.
“Well I’m happy for you; I know that is what you wanted.” Robert hugged Vera and told her thanks. Robert was about to go up to his room when his mom called him into the kitchen.
“Yeah mom what’s up?”
“Oh mijo I just wanted to see if you can go get some last minutes things we need for your sister’s wedding.”
“Sure what is it you need me to get?”
“I need you to go get the table cloths and if you could go check up on how the floral arrangements are coming along.” Robert looked at her; he wasn’t sure why she would think he would be the best person to check on the flowers.
“Um ok sure, did you want me to go now?”
“Yes please and if you could pick something up for dinner as well.” Robert nodded at her and went out the door. Robert first stopped for the table cloths then he went to the flowers shop. Robert went up to the counter and found no one; he tapped the bell and waited for someone to show up. He was too busy looking around that he didn’t notice the person walk up to the counter.
“Can I help you?” Robert was still looking around and didn’t turn around.
“Yes I came to see how the arrangements for the Esposito wedding were coming along.” Robert said as he finally turned around, he came face to face with Grant, the last person he felt like seeing right now.
“Oh my god Robert, it’s nice to see you.” Robert just stared at him, why was he being nice? The last time he saw him, he had punched him in the face and yet he showed no hard feelings.
“You work here?” was all Robert could say.
“Yeah well my aunt owns this place and I help out in the summer. So how have you been?.”
“Why are you being nice to me, the last time we saw each other I punched you in the face.” Grant laughed.
“First of all I had that coming and second that’s all in the past any way.” Robert stared at him, and then shook his head.
“Ok and by the way I’m sorry about that, I didn’t mean to lose my temper like that.”
“Like I said it all in the past, so you want to see the arrangements follow me this way.” Grant led Robert to the back of the shop. He pulled out the arrangement and they looked pretty good and nodded his head in approval. They walked back to the front and Robert was about to leave when he heard Grant say, “You know he misses you a lot. I can tell every time we hang out. I tell him that he is being stubborn, he should just tell you. But he seems to believe you don’t love him enough to leave the girl.” When Robert heard that he stepped back and turned around to face Grant. When he saw how Grants face looked when he said that he just knew he was telling the truth.
“So I’m right you would leave her to be with him again?”
“Yes I would if I was really going out with her.” Grant looked at him and he was confused. “Chloe and I never went out; she is just a good friend who by the way is a lesbian.”
“Isn’t she pregnant?”
“Yes but that just happened one night when we ended up getting too drunk. In fact she is giving up all her rights to the babies and I am going to raise them. She just doesn’t feel like she is ready to take care of two babies.”
“I think someone needed to tell Preston that.”
“Believe me I would if he would just answer my phone calls when I call him. The thing I want to know is why you’re telling me this if you two are together.”
“Oh we are not together; he just did that so you will be more willing to leave when he broke up with you.”
“Why did he break up with me and then want to get back together; that is something I just don’t understand?”
“He did it because he didn’t have a choice; your uncle had visited him while he was in the hospital, he threatens him into breaking up with you. He said that he would make sure something horrible happened to you. He was just so scared that he would do something to hurt you, so he broke up with you. I had never seen him so heartbroken before.” Robert couldn’t believe that his uncle had gone after Preston to get him to break up with him. He regretted not telling Preston about how he knew about them. He didn’t want him to worry over something that wasn’t really important. Now had he done that none of this would have happened, they were have never broken up.
“Why didn’t he tell me, we could have figured something out together?”
“He was scared for your life, he thought your uncle was serious about hurting you.” He should have known it was his uncle that was behind all this.
“Do you know how I can get a hold of him?”
“I could tell you, but I think I could do something better. I’m going to need help taking all these arrangements to your house. I can get him to help and he will be there, then you two can finally talk.”
“You would really do that for me, after everything that happened?”
“Not doing it for you, I still love Preston. I just learned to face the fact I’m just not the one he wants. The one that makes him happy, you are. So if that means me sucking up my pride and helping him get the one he loves back then so be it. I just want to see him happy and he is at his happiest with you.”
“Thank you, I will forever be in your debt. By the way I’ll really sorry about how things never went well between us. I just hope we can put all this behind us and start over?” Robert said as he stuck out his hand. Grant took his hand and shook it, “Sure that would be great.”
Robert smiled, “well thanks again and I will see you two Saturday.” Grant nodded his head as he watched Robert leave. In a few days he was finally going to have Preston back in his life.
Preston was riding in the van with Grant. He couldn’t believe he had agreed to help him with this wedding delivery, but he didn’t feel like being at home alone. Today was a year since he had met Robert, it should have been a wonderful day hadn’t things gone bad. He still thought about him every day and it pained him to ignore his calls especially the time he called on his birthday. He knows he was just being a stubborn jackass as Grant and Vera like to put it, but they weren’t the ones who were in pain. When they finally pulled up to the house that was having the wedding, it was a big and beautiful mansion. Grant parked the van on the side of the house and got out to start unloading. One by one they took the arrangements to the back yard and placed them where they were told to.
"Ok i'm just going to find the owner so i can get paid. why don't you take a walk around the grounds. I'll find you when I'm done." Grant said, Preston nodded his head and started walking around. He just loved how beautiful it was here. Preston stopped in front of a huge water fountain and reached inside his pocket and pulled out some change. He took a quarter, made a wish and tossed it in.
“So what did you wish for?” Preston knew that voice before he even had to turn around. Preston turned around and was face to face with his one true love Robert. Preston stood there watching Robert; he looked so handsome in his black tux. Preston could see he had let his hair grow out and he was back to wearing his glasses. Seeing and hearing his voice just made him realize how much he really missed him. He could feel tears slowly build in his eyes, and he was finding it hard to breathe. Robert walked closer to him and pulled him into his arms and Preston let himself melt in his arms.
“I’m so sorry I should have just told you about your uncle, I know we could have figured something out together. I know that it is too late for us because you are with someone else and you two are about to start a family together. I just want you to know I love you and I will always love you.” Preston knew he was just starting to ramble, but he didn’t care. Robert was holding him in his arms. It might not last for much longer, but at least he could enjoy this moment. Then he felt Robert pull away and cup his face in his hands.
“No I’m the one who should be sorry, I should have told you that my uncle knew, I should have fought harder to stay with you and most of all I should have never believed that you didn’t love me.” Robert leaned in and kissed him, Preston had missed his kisses. They were the kind that would make everything better. Preston pulled away, he couldn’t enjoy this moment. Not when Robert belonged to someone else.
“What about your girlfriend?” Preston said as broke from Robert’s hold.
“I don’t have one; Chloe is just my lesbian friend who is carrying my twins. She got pregnant one night when we both ended up drinking too much. It meant nothing to either one of us.”
“So you two are going to raise twins together?”
“No we are not; she doesn’t really think she is ready for that so she is giving up all rights to me.” Preston saw Robert reach into his pocket; he was getting down on one knee and pulled Preston’s hand towards him. “And I was hoping you would help me raise them, Preston Shaw would you do me the honor of becoming my husband, and will you marry me?” Preston looked at the ring Robert held in his hand it was white gold with his and Robert’s birthstones. He loved Robert so much and he wanted to spend the rest of his life with him. He tried to get the words out but couldn’t, he know he would start to cry, he just nodded his head. Robert places the ring in his hand, leaned in and whispered, “I had it engraved, read it before I put it on your finger.” Preston took a closer look at it and saw ‘mi amorcito 08/04/11’ it had the date they first met. Preston leaned in to kiss him and Robert took the ring and slipped it on his finger. It was a perfect fit; he never wanted to image his life without Robert again.
“So what did you wish for?” Robert asked as he wiped away Preston’s tears. Preston reached for Robert’s hand and placed a kiss on his palm, before taking them in his hand.
“That you and I would be able to be together again and this time no one was going to get in between us.” Robert kissed him again and placed his forehead against Preston’s.
“No one is going to ruin our happiness ever again, nor am I going to give you up that easily ever again.” Preston smiled and wrapped his arms around Robert’s neck and kissed him.
"Good i don't plan on ever leaving you again."

“Hey what’s wrong?” Chloe asked Robert.
“Oh nothing just that it’s going to be a year since I met Preston. I have just been thinking about him a lot.”
