The car ride to Dominic’s penthouse was silent.
Aria sat rigid beside him in the back seat of the black armored Rolls-Royce, her gaze fixed outside as the glowing city blurred past. She refused to meet his eyes. Every breath she took felt heavy with finality.
She was no longer Aria De Luca, daughter of a mafia king.
She was Aria Moretti.
Owned.
The man sitting beside her was too calm. She could feel the weight of his stare even without looking. It wasn’t curiosity. It was possession—like he was cataloguing his new property.
Finally, his deep voice cut through the suffocating silence. “Are you always this quiet?”
Her nails dug into her palm. “Maybe I prefer silence over meaningless conversation.”
He chuckled, the sound low and dark. “This isn’t meaningless, cara mia. We’re married now. We should get to know each other.”
She turned slowly to face him, her eyes cold. “I know everything I need to know. You’re a monster.”
He leaned closer, invading her space without hesitation. His voice dropped, silky and dangerous. “Then you’ll fit perfectly in my world.”
She refused to flinch, but her pulse betrayed her. It pounded beneath her skin as if warning her she was trapped with a predator far more dangerous than she imagined.
The car pulled into the underground parking of the towering Moretti building. As the door opened, Dominic stepped out first, then extended his hand toward her.
Aria hesitated.
Taking his hand would be submission. It would be acceptance.
But refusing would give him the satisfaction of knowing how much he unsettled her.
She placed her hand in his, her fingers ice cold against his warmth. His grip was firm, not harsh, but unmistakably possessive as he helped her out.
Security guards flanked them as they entered the private elevator. The ride was swift, climbing to the very top of the skyscraper—his kingdom.
The penthouse doors slid open to reveal a world dripping in wealth and power. Floor-to-ceiling windows displayed the glittering city skyline. Marble floors gleamed beneath crystal chandeliers. The entire space was designed to impress, to intimidate.
He owned this world.
And now, he owned her.
“This will be your home now,” he said, walking ahead like a king giving a tour of his castle.
“It’s cold,” she said flatly.
Dominic stopped and turned. “You’ll warm it.”
Her jaw tightened. “Don’t expect me to play the doting wife.”
“I don’t want a doting wife,” he said calmly, stepping closer. “I want your loyalty. Your obedience will follow.”
His words burned.
“Obedience? I’m not a dog.”
“No,” his voice softened dangerously. “You’re a wolf. That’s why I chose you.”
Aria’s breath hitched. The way he looked at her—as if he already saw every part of her she tried to hide—terrified her more than any threat.
Before she could respond, his phone buzzed. Without breaking eye contact, he answered.
“Yes.”
A pause. Then his eyes darkened.
“I’ll handle it.”
He ended the call with a sharp swipe and stepped closer to her. She backed against the glass wall, the city lights blazing behind her.
“Trouble?” she asked, forcing her voice steady.
“There’s always trouble in my world, Aria,” he murmured. “But you’ll learn—here, I am the trouble.”
She stared at him, fury and fear warring inside her.
“You think you can break me, Dominic?” she whispered.
His hand rose slowly, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear, his fingers lingering on her neck. The touch was gentle, but the threat beneath it was palpable.
“I don’t want to break you,” he whispered back. “I want to own every unbroken piece.”
For a moment, neither spoke. The air between them pulsed with unspoken tension—hatred, desire, power.
And then, he stepped back.
“I won’t touch you tonight,” he said unexpectedly. “Not yet.”
Her chest heaved, surprised by the strange relief that swept over her.
“But make no mistake, Aria. You are my wife. And soon…” His voice dropped into a promise laced with dark hunger. “You will crave my touch.”
He turned, leaving her breathless and boiling with conflicting emotions.
The door to the master suite clicked shut behind him.
Aria stood alone, staring out over the glittering city.
She didn’t know what scared her more.
The world she had just entered.
Or how right he might be.
